Acrobat X - File double click launch

Since i upgraded to 10.8 I've noticed my pdf files dont open when double clicking, it just launches Acrobat. The only way to launch the file is to go to File>open and manually selecting the file.
Also when i right click the acrobat icon on the dock and hit the quit command, nothing happens. Must do a command+q or acrobat>quit from the top menu.
Any one else experiencing? any tips on how to solve?

Me too on a MBP 13" 2011 AND MBP 15" 2010... Just did a fresh instal of Mountain Lion and CS6 master suite and it fixed for 5 min then the same issues again 5 min later... GRRR ... Sometimes repairing permissions fixes it for a short while. Anybody?

  • Issue with .jar file (double clicking)

    Hi.
I've been having a problem with a certain .jar file when I attempt to double click it. From my understanding, I was under the impression that when someone double clicks a .jar file, the contents are supposed to execute by itself (kind of like a .exe file, I guess?)
I've been able to successfully create my .jar file and have been able to run it through a command prompt in Windows using the following:
    java -jar testjar.jar
However, whenever I try to double click on the testjar in the folder it is located in, a command prompt quickly pops up and goes away. I've been able to tell I'm getting an error, mainly consisting of something along the lines of "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ...
I'm not entirely sure what information is needed for support, but I'd be more than happy to provide what is necessary. Thanks in advance!

  • Double click launches photoshop CS6 but image doesn't open

Since installing CS6 about a month ago, when I double-click on an image and PS is closed, PS will launch but the image doesn't open.
If PS is already open, double-clicking works properly.
This was an upgrade install and I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8.
    Thanks,

FYI, this problem was caused by an Extensis plug-in error window. I moved the plugin so Photoshop wouldn't try to load it and everything is working properly now.

  • Why I can´t open files in CC InDesign by double-clicking them ?

Everytime I am trying to open a file double-clicking it, it says: Choose a software to open it, where I can only pick CS3 from the list. Yes, I did try to select a software from the folder of softwares, and when I pick InDesign CC, simply goes back to the window where the only option still is CS3.
I am opening files straight from the CC platform, but obviously this is not how is suposse to work, is it ?
    TNX 4 ur comments!

Sounds like you might have uninstalled an earlier version of ID after installing the latest and damaged or removed the file that handles the association. You didn't say if this is Mac or PC, but it's fairly common to happen on PC and the recommended fix is to reinstall the versions you need, in chronological order, so the icon handler is restored and will show you the correct icon for each version (that isn't available for Mac users) and will set the file association to the last version installed.

  • Iphoto wont play movie files and wont double click for zoom or edit

Hi i bought my first ever macbook a week ago, love everything on it,iphoto worked well but today i wanted to show someone a movie file on my camea which i have in my iphoto libray clicked on it and it usually opens, today nothing!!! this file has opened loads before because its a holiday movie, loads of people have seen it but now nothing.
Also my double click to zoom or edit preference seems to do nothing whichever box you check in preffence nothing happens.
Being new to mac i hope i can find some answers!!
    Chris

    Chris:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First Control+click on the movie's thumbnail and select Show File from the contextual menu. When you get to the original movie file double click on it to see if you can open it in Quicktime. If not then it's more a QT issue. If it opens OK in QT go to the next procedure.
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again. If iPhoto is still misbehaving log into another account and try the same operations in iPhoto there. If still not working you may have to reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came one. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. After you get iPhoto reinstalled run the latest update for it, 7.1.3 if needed.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Double clicking file (.pdf) will not open associated App (Acrobat)

    Hi All,
I am having a problem with opening .pdf files in that double clicking does not open the Acrobat Application.
    • This just started happening about a month ago.
    • Once I open the app manually, double clicking the file works fine
    • I have associated .pdf files with 'Adobe Acrobat Pro.app' both through the Get Info 'Change All' button as well as trying the Open With 'Always Open With' method.
    • I have associated .pdf files with 'Preview' and this works fine in that double clicking a .pdf file open within Preview at any time including when the app is not initially running.
    • I have repaired Disk Permissions several times
    • I have upgraded to CS4 including a new version of Acrobat during the period that I have been having this problem, and the same issue has remained (ie so happens with Acrobat 8 & Acrobat 9)
Does anyone have any suggestions? I can get by with leaving Acrobat open all the time, but would prefer to keep apps closed as much as possible.
    Regards,
    Ross

For some reason those associations are corrupted. Try clearing out the Launch Services caches, then reassign it to the correct app and let us know. Launch /Utilities/Terminal and copy & paste this at the command line to rebuild LaunchServices:
    Code:
    <pre class="alt2" style="margin:0px; padding:3px; border:1px inset; width:640px; height:34px; overflow:auto">/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user</pre>
Then press return. Wait until terminal returns to the command line. Quit Terminal. After that, log out and back in or restart. Let us know

  • Double clicking a file won't launch the application.

I have a problem with Quark 4.11 and Acrobat 5.0.
When I try to launch the apps by double clicking on my file icon, Acrobat tries to launch but does nothing and Quark gives me a -39 error.
    This happens on all files.
File I create and files that I receive from customers, so I know that it is not a single damaged file.
Acrobat has been doing this for several months but quark just started 2 weeks ago. Quark started doing it just after I rebuilt my desktop.
I should mention that I can open files from within the application or if I drag the file icon on top of the application icon.
Short of reinstalling the apps, whan can I do?
    Can I zap the pram?
    G4 AGP Mac OS 9.2.x

    Hello Jack,
In addition to advice already offered I would try allocating more memory to the 2 applications in question. If unsure how to do this...post back.
Secondly, do a sherlock for Quark.....see if you have several alias of the original app. I would try to only have 1 or 2 aliases.
Try the memory thing first......Error -39 is a ROM related error. It pertains to "end of file error". I must admit I don't know what that is.
Also you could try closing a few apps. Then see if the files open the job correctly. This is not a fix but would indicate a memory issue. Lastly be sure you have enough free space on the HD. It could be time to back up and remove some items on the HD in order to create room....HTH........Jim

  • Launching Air Captive runtime by double clicking file does not pass location in arguments

I am trying to make my Air Captive Runtime Mac OS X app respond correctly when the user double clicks on a file type associated with the app.
I have set up the invoke event listener to capture location of the file that the user has clicked to launch the app stored in the event.arguments variable.
In the following simple test I just print out the length of the arguments passed in when the app is invoked. This is the behavior I am seeing:
    1. when I launch the app from the command line with 2 args,
    open test.app --args arg1 arg2
I get "2"  as expected for the arguments length.
    2. If the app is already open and I double click a file with a type associated with the app. It correctly invokes the app and passes in the path to the file that was clicked. Length is 1 as expected and the content is the path to the file.
    3. However, if I just double click the same associated file when the app is not open, the app launches correctly, however no arguments are passed. Length is 0 and there is no way to know what file the user double clicked.
    here is code:
    var debugOutput = new TextField();
    addChild(debugOutput);
    NativeApplication.nativeApplication.addEventListener(InvokeEvent.INVOKE, onInvoke);
    function onInvoke(e:InvokeEvent):void
      debugOutput.text = e.arguments.length;
Any thoughts on what might be going on?

I have the same problem. i have tired AIRSDK 3.1 & 3.4, my app can run normal without Captive-runtime mode in my nexus s, But keep getting the message "unfortunately, (myappname) has stopped" when packed with Captive-runtime.

  • Launch Firefox with double-clicked file displayed?

System: Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger), Firefox 3.6.15
Used to be that double-clicking an html file icon in Finder or dragging the file icon onto Firefox in the Dock would always launch Firefox with that file displayed in the browser. But in recent versions Firefox now always launches with a blank page or home page (depending on preferences). How can I restore the old behavior?

You are not going to like this answer but it is the only one.
You are asking an end user how-to question.  The question and solution are not about scripting. They are about how to use a fundamental feature of Windows.  In Windows file extensions are associated with a default program.  To set that you
only need to right click the file and select the program that runs it while choosing to set it as the default program.
This and other issues of how to set up Windows programs can be answered in the forum for your OS.
Just writing or finding a script that seems to do what you want does not mean you have to correct solution. YOU have to start by asking the correct question in the correct forum.
    Good luck.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Acrobat 8.1.3 requires two double clicks to open a file

Our agency has a VB app that uses adobe to pull up files routinely (for many employees I support they use this app to pull up dozens of documents a day).
Use to be that when you want to pull up a PDF file from the VB app you double clicked once and the PDF came right up. Now you double click and it brings adobe to the forefront (if not already started) or it will just sit there in the background (if adobe was already started before), and then you have to go back to the VB application and double click on the document name again before it will pull up in the Adobe program in a second adobe window. Only staff with the 8.1.3 update have this issue, those with 8.1.2 do one double click and the document comes right up.

I would recommend going to the Help>Repair and then repeating with Help>Updates. I am assuming the process is the same on the MAC as the PC.

  • Adobe X: Can't open multiple files by double-clicking

I have Adobe Reader version 10.1.0.534 running on Windows XP SP3. Once I have a .pdf file open, I cannot open additional .pdf files by double-clicking on their icon from within a folder or on my Desktop. I can only open them by going through the File>Open dialog in Reader or by dragging the icon onto the open Reader window. I can open the first .pdf file by double-clicking, just not any after that. This behavior is new in Adobe X.
    Does anyone else see this?
Is this by design? If so, why? It seems to be an unneccessary annoyance and a deprecation.
    Thanks
