Acrobat X font question

I've created a simple fill-in form. Somehow, I ended up with two versions. One uses the Arial and Arial Bold font, the other the Helvetica and Helvetica Bold font. Given the same input, the fill in with Arial/Arial Bold is much larger - one page is about 500 meg versus about 150 meg for Helvetica. I don't care what font is used, but by the time I realized the issue there were hundreds filled in.
I stumbled across the issue when I tried to "optimize" the forms, and did an "Audit Space Usage". the Arial/Arial Bold PDF has the font as about 72% of the file size, while the Helvetica/Helvetica Bold has the font as using about 1 1/2% of the file size.
I would like to either convert the completed forms to Helvetica/Helvetica Bold or somehow reduce the font size (if possible). Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

When you select a font for a form field that is not one of the base-14 (Helvetica, Times, Courier, etc.) that are guaranteed to be available (or a suitable replacement) with Reader/Acrobat, the entire font has to be embedded, which naturally increases the size of the file. Since a version of Arial is actually used in place of Helvetica when Helvetica is specified, there is little (no?) reason to specify Arial for a form field. The problem is that even if you set the font for the fields back to Helvetica, Acrobat doesn't clean things up nearly as well as you might expect it should.
One approach is to extract the form data from the forms that use Arial and import it into a blank form that uses Helvetica, and save. This could be automated in Acrobat with some scripting.

  • Acrobat XI font transfer to nitro pdf pro 9

Hello, I have nitro pdf pro 9 installed as well as adobe acrobat XI installed. There is "courier" font from the comment pane, annotations and "Add text comment" tool in acrobat XI that I want to use in nitro pdf pro 9. How do I transfer all the fonts from adobe acrobat XI to nitro pdf ? Where are all the fonts located in acrobat XI ? Thanks.

There are no fonts located in Acrobat. Fonts are located on the local machine. The encoding for the glyphs displayed in a PDF are in the pdf. To determine how Nitro deals with fonts you'd need to see what the application help or customer service has to say.
    Be well...

  • Beginner font questions

These are some beginner font questions if someone has the time/patience.
I've never paid much attention to fonts over the years, never installed
any other than those that might have come with applications. Early on,
15 years ago or so, I settled on Palatino and I've stayed with it for
most docs (Word 5.1a and now Word vX) and often for other apps (Safari,
    Now).
I just upgraded to Tiger (10.4.4) and I use Word vX.
    Questions:
    1. I gather from looking at Font Book that when I'm using Palatino in
Tiger that OS X is getting it from my OS 9 System folder for Classic.
It does not look like Palatino is in any other locations including MS
Office vX. Does that make sense?
    2. I always thought that Palatino was a very basic, always available
    font. Not so?
    3. If I decide to stop using Classic, and I'm close to that time, can I
transfer those fonts to OS X? If so, to which location is best.
    4. And are the same fonts used for printing and screen? In other words
back in pre OS X days I thought some fonts came in screen versions and
print versions but my memory is hazy on that. Not only that.
Thank you for any education or links for info.

Yes, you can just put it in Users/username/Library/Fonts (or Library/Fonts for all users).

  • Simple question : is there a way to change the Acrobat console font?

I'm working with Acrobat 8, on Win XP.
I'm having trouble reading the "courrier" font in the console and I wish to change it to a more suitable font for me. Is there a way to do that?
    Thank you

Thank you, but this is the font for the javascript editor... Isn't it?
I'm using NotePad++ as javascript editor and I already made the font look the way I want.
I'm looking for a way to change the text font in the javascript console where the error messages are displayed... Courrier is too light/thin for me to read confortably.

  • Monospace Font question

I am somewhat new to Oracle forms, i am using 10G so don't shoot me if these are dumb questions.
I want to left align my Prompts on my form but using Tahoma or Verdana the alignment is always off. I fixed it by using a monospace font like Courier but is there a way to get these other more standard fonts to left align properly? (i don't want to right align them)
Courier is not very readable and for the internet most people use Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif.
My other question is that if i use a font that is listed in the Oracle Forms Developer will it automatically download them to clients that don't have that font? How does Oracle handle this?

No question is a dumb question. :-)
To left align prompts, you go to the canvas and select the several that you want to align. Then all you do is click the 'Align Left' icon on the editing toolbar at the top of the canvas (or use pull-down Arange, Align Objects, Horizontally-Align Left). If the web display is not left-aligned, you may also need to open the property palette on the items with the prompts, and set the Prompt Alignment property to Start. You should NOT need to fuss with a monospaced font once you do this.
I don't think Forms downloads fonts. Instead there is a font translation process where a font that is similar is selected.
Just a note... I don't use Forms 9i or 10g, only 6i (both c/s and web), so my answer may not be right on.

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard Question - Converting PDF to word document

Question:  I currently have Adobe Acrobat 8.  I need to convert a PDF to word document.  I know how to do that but the outcome of the word document sometimes varies as to retaining the exact formatting.  How can I retain exact formatting?  Is there something that I'm not doing that I need to be doing in order to retain the formatting.  Also do newer versions (Adobe Acrobat 11 (Standard or Pro?)) do a better job of converting and retaining formatting?

Retaining the exact formatting is not possible in practice or in theory because Word documents are nothing like PDFs. For example, Word will cheerfully reflow text onto new lines or pages, while this will never happen with a PDF.
That said, Adobe keep trying to get closer to what people need. Sometimes this results in complex parts of the file being made into an uneditable graphic or text box.
Bottom line is you can get the basics into Word and then (according to your time, experience, and the abilities of Word) you might be able to reconstruct.
On no account convert official forms to Word.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro question

I'm working in Acrobat 9 Pro. I have a three page form. I need to add the same number in the same position at the top of each page. I then need to send that form to our in-house copier to print it. I then need the same form with next numerical number at the top of each page, send it to the copier for a second printing. I basically need to end up with a set of forms starting with the number 100 at the top of the first three pages, 101 at the top of the next three pages and so on and so on. Is there an way to do this without creating individual three page document? Thanks for any help!

  • Acrobat typewriter font issue

Hi, when I click on "Typewriter" in Acrobat Pro 9.4.3/Win7-32(en) and start typing, everything's ok at first (I chose "Times New Roman"):
However, after I click elsewhere and start typing there, suddenly some international characters change their font, and, moreover, last word disappears!...
Don't you know how to avoid this strange behaviour? It happens with a majority of fonts installed (they contain international chars and work normally e.g. in Microsoft Word etc.).
    Thanks for help, S.

  • Font question in User folder

Does anyone know if you're SUPPOSED to have fonts in the User/Library/Fonts folder. I know it sounds like a stupid question but I thought Tiger kept all of its fonts in two places:
    1) /Library/Fonts
    2) /System/Library/Fonts
    Thanks for any help.
    Paul

Fonts in the user font folder will only be available to that user. It really doesn't make much sense unless you have a font in your handwriting that another user wouldn't need. I do know that Microsoft will install fonts in the current user's folder. At least then you know what installed them :~)

  • Customer cannot put in the check mark in the check box. same acrobat version. font "adobe_pi" mistak

i have a problem. i created a form with check boxes. everything went fine, till today. a customer called me,
that he cannot put a mark in my check boxes. so i asked him about his version. he told me, that he has the
same version of acrobat pro x as i am using. then i asked him to try it in acrobat reader, but it was the same
result. after these tries, i changed the kind of mark to a simple cross. that did work then, but i donnot like it.
i want the nice marks! i saw, that acrobat pro x is using the font adobe-pi. could this be the problem? how
can i find out? or is it a different mistake? please help me, cause i don´t want to change my whole forms!
they are so many and i have to ensure that every customer can fill out my forms! it is so important!
    nice greetings from vienna!

thanks for the quick answer! but unfortunally it is not the solution you described. in my preferences
and the preferences of the customers program are in the pdf/a-viewing area two possibilities to set:
"No" and "only at pdf/a-documents". there is no "all". and we have the same setting in this section
    of the preferences.

  • Acrobat 9 - font garbles up

Hi. I am using a corporate owned font (Type 1) for a client, and have never had a problem with it until Acrobat 9.
When I save a large photoshop (CS5) file as PDF, bring it into Acrobat 9 to add printer marks and run optimization to reduce file size, the type gets garbled up, with missing characters, wacky spacing, and looks nothing like the original file.
I've also had a case where the font in PDF looks ok on my computer, but when it gets to the printer it is all funky. The only solution was to send a high res JPG instead of PDF.
I've checked to see what fonts are embedded, and the corporate font is listed.
What can I do to prevent fonts from getting all garbled up?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Mike,
After optimizing,  I go to properties > fonts, the fonts are listed as embedded as a subset.
When I optimize, I don't have the "font" box checked, so it should leave the fonts alone, shouldn't it?
I just added new job definitions specifically including the fonts for embedding and will see if this changes anything.

  • A font question in CS3

I get so ahead of myself and sometimes forget the basics of
Flash. These are gonna look like a newbie questions but I gotta be
    sure.
If I use (example) Apple Chancery TTF in a Flash movie,
publish the file and look at it on a pc, unless the pc has this
font it will substitute it with something else correct?
If I do the same thing and use (example) Apple Chancery TTF
but save the font text as a symbol, I will get the same result
    correct?
If I embed the (example) Apple Chancery font in the movie and
view the movie on a pc I should see the SAME font because Flash
    embedded in the movie correct?

a font that you convert into a graphic or you embed will be
displayed the same on everyone's computer including yours.
a font that you don't convert and don't embed is only seen
correctly by users that have that font installed on their
    computer.

  • Acrobat and font issues

I believe acrobat has a limit in number of system fonts. I have to close Extensis (reducing the number of system fonts)  in order to make pdfs wiith my non-Adobe applications. This is a pain since I usually have to close all adobe applications to produce a pdf in applications like Word, etc. Does anyone know of a better work around.

I normally get a message that amounts to file not created because font not found message. I am not getting that message today, but I recently increased the size of my virtual memory. Apps like Word and Quicken were at least creating the file, but using the wrong fonts. I then unchecked the rely on system fonts switch and it seems to be working for now.
I read somewhere that Acrobat could only handle about 300 active system fonts so I assumed that was the problem...especially since the applications could produce pdfs when Extensis was closed, thus removing the fonts it manages. I guess I could have put some of the system fonts under Extensis' control, but I was afraid that I might remove vital fonts that some application needed and cause all kinds of problems like not being able to read anything when an application opened up or something crazy like that.
Anyway, problem solved for now. Thanks.

  • Adope acrobat 9 - font problem

Hallo all of you out there.
I get this error when trying to edit a pdf document using adope acrobat 9.
I use the Touchup tool, mark the text and when trying to delete or write anything i get the error below (dropbox link, Danish)
    Dropbox - adope acrobat.JPG
In english the error messange says something like:
"all or part of the marked text does not have any available system font. You can not add or delete with the selected font.
I have tried to seach on different forums, but without luck.
I really hope i can help me.
Have a nice day all of you!

Sometimes you can select the text with the text-edit tool and select properties (right mouse button) to change the font to something on your system. It might work, but even if it does it is not a very useful solution if you have a lot of stuff to deal with. Sometimes it will not work because the PDF font and your system fonts are not compatible. I recently tried this with a ClearScan OCR and it was a pain. The problem with ClearScan is that it creates an internal font to try to emulate what is seen as closely as possible and no option is given to use a system font -- in my case, I simply used a searchable PDF OCR (gets big!) and could save to WORD because the hidden font is a system font.

  • Acrobat Compare PDF question

When comparing two PDF documents, I see that Acrobat can indicate to me that a certain area of text has font and size differences. Is it possible for Adobe to list the specific font and sizes on the documents as well as the generic statement of there being differences? (i.e. document 1 block of text X is in 10 point Times New Roman, document 2 block of text X is in 14 point Helvetica)
Using Adobe Acrobat X Pro for Windows.

I have an example file posted here, I am trying to make my 2 comments feilds populate the summary.

Can someone show me what a script to concatonate these feilds would look like?
