Acrobat X freezing when printing from IE and other apps

Since the last update, each time I try to print to .pdf while in Internet Explorer, or other Microsoft applications, it will not print to file AND it freezes the application (I am left with a print window frozen AND the application frozen). Any ideas? Thank you.

Please try repairing Acrobat and check if it solves the issue.

Printing from abiword and other apps

this is my first post and i'd like to start off by saying that this distro is amazing! i love it!
when i first decided to install it, i thought i might not be able to do it as i am such a dumb-user... but actually, installing it was extremely easy!
i've been using archlinux for a couple of weeks now but i haven't solved all my problems yet...
the most annoying is printing.
i installed cups and set up my printer. it works just fine from OpenOffice but i don't know how to set abiword and other apps (such as xfprint) to print from the same printer.
when i try from abiword, i can only print using lpr and that doesn't work. what should i do to make abiword see my printer?

the printer is an epson stylus color 400 on a parallel port and is set up properly with cups and the driver i've always used (gimp-print). the program i'm trying to print from with no success is abiword.
i tried what kalidor suggested and it works from acroread but it doesn't work from abiword.

Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3
I have the following problem:
When printing from Photoshop or InDesign to a PostScript printer, Adobe recommends to let Photoshop handle the colors (I use the German version, so I don't know the exact term used, it changes slightly in all CS3 apps anyway).
The manufacturer however told me to let the PostScript printer handle the colors.
When I chose this option in Ps's print dialog and then choose ISO Coated as the printer pfofile, the results are fine.
But when I place the exact same image in an InDesign file and print from InDesign or export to PDF and print via Acrobat, again using "Printer handles colors", the results are the exact same as if I had used Ps and chosen to let Ps handle the colors (way too saturated and a bit too red).

How can I make sure the printer handles the colors in other CS3 apps than Ps? I tried it with ID's print dialog (translated from the German version: Color Management > Options > Color Handling: PostScript-printer decides colors).

That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

Links from Mail and other apps don't go to open copy of Firefox but attempt to open a second copy, so I get "A copy of Firefox is already open," FF 22, OS10.8.4

Links from within Firefox windows open new tab, but links within Mail, MSWord, and other apps attempt to open another copy of Firefox, and I get the "Close Firefox: A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time." This just started happening less than a week ago. I don't know when FF updated to version 22.0.

My problem seems to be fixed--I cannot reproduce it now, though it had been consistently happening for the past 3-4 days. The suggestions above do not seem to apply in any case: I do not want to open another instance of Firefox but simply to connect with the one that is already running; and I do not seem to have a .parentlock file.
If the problem returns, I'll be back. Meanwhile, thanks for the suggestions.

Acrobate IX freezes when printing/creating pdf in Firefox - same settings as in IX

Hi Guys,
Had the product for a week and it is not working... Usual stuff, a new PC take weeks to bed down.
When I try to print/create pdf from something in Firefox, both Acrobate IX and Firefox freeze. I have the old PC with Firefox and Acrobate IX, same default setting and it works everytime. XI freezes. Close Firefox and Acrobate and then re-open and it may print. If it does the next time I try it freezes.
Can anyone help?? not sure how this works... but my email is [email protected]

Print quality problems on Fuji Xerox printers when printing from ArchiCAD and/or Preview.

We experience major print quality problems when printing directly from Graphisoft's ArchiCAD, Nemetscheks Vectorworks and from Apple's Preview.
Basically we see various artefacts on our printed drawings, e.g. line thicknesses change and hatched patterns / fills are reproduced with patches where the lineweights and clours change completely... which is not acceptable.
This affects the following Fuji Xerox printer models on both 10.6.x and 10.7.x with the latest FJX PPDs:
ApeosPort C5540I
Xerox LF6605 MF
The workarounds for us are to either print PDFs from Adobe Acrobat Reader or via the rather dated Accxess Tools, besides that we prefer at times to print directly from a given Software it is also not always possible to generate a PDF and print it from Acrobat Reader... especially since the latest Adobe Reader update to its print dialogue makes printing from it extremely tedious - in fact we are considering going back to 9.5.2
Obviously, we have approached FJX Tech Support and are awaiting a reply - however we are disappointed that this is happening on relatively new equipment and wonder if anybody else has already found a solution.

The symptoms you mention could be related to the FJX engine and Acrobat is masking this fault. To test, you can create a Postscript file from the print dialog of ArchiCAD or VectorWorks and then download this to the Apeos RIP. If this produces the same result as when using the printer driver from the applications, then it would indicate that the engine is not capable of handling the data being sent to it from these applications.

Results are different when printing from CS5 and CS4

A file that printed fine with Photoshop CS 4 printed very dark when printed with CS5, with no changes made to the settings. Has anyone else had this problem?

Remote desktop freezes Mac OS security agent and other apps when I try to accept certificate

When I try to "Always trust" the certificate from my computer at work and click continue, I cannot enter my administrator password and it freezes other apps on my computer. I am not able to even restart the machine without forcing it with
the power button.

I too get this issue.
I am using MS Remote Desktop Version 8.0.7 (Build 24875) on OSX 10.9.3. This has happened to previous versions MSRD.

Should add the only way I get it to terminate is to physically restart.

Printing to DVD Disk From Photoshop and Other Apps

I have Sure Thing disk labeling software and Photoshop CC that I use to create labels. There doesn't seem to be any presets for using this specific printer to work with DVD disks. How do I get the info for this printer into the other apps so that they show up as choices in the print settings? Your user manual gives NO information on this. What settings should I use?
For example, in the Photoshop print settings, when I select the Pro-100 as the printer it shows a print preview window that is inaccurate. It shows a 5.95" x 12.6" document with the print design in the center vertically and horizontally. But, the DVD is not in the center of the print tray. It is about 2/3rd of the way up and slightly to the left. The computer needs to know the exact position settings so that it prints where it's supposed to.
In the Sure Thing software, the presets do not even list this printer. It seems when you install the printer driver software, that all of that information should be installed into any apps that use the printer. The same goes for the DVD case inserts.

Applications don't have printer specific information -- all of that is part of the printer driver provided by the printer manufacturer.
You need to contact your printer maker and work with them to determine why their driver is not providing the necessary information to the OS and Photoshop.

"transparent" bounding boxes appear when printing from InDesign and Acrobat

Hi. I have encountered a problem with both CS4 and CS5 InDesign and Acrobat 9.0. Mac OS 10.5.8. When I print (artwork flattened before I create PDF with standard "Press Quality" from InDesign or Adobe Illustrator default from Illustrator) lighter areas that are rectangular shaped will appear on the color print. We use a rip and this appears to happen randomly. I have spent considerable time troubleshooting this...I have used every work around I can think of—to no avail.
1. What is this?
2. Why is this happening?
3. Is there technical information out there to help me get rid of it?

Solid areas of lighter color. I am not sure if our rip can handle live transparency. It is a Fiery 8e Release 2. I tried a solution from a previous post that suggested de-selecting the Pantone match option when I print and that did work.
The PDF's are high res. It has even happened on some PDF's that were created through Distiller as high res. I have seen this at the print shop I work at and also at the college where I teach design.

When printing from Firefox (and Thunderbird) the 'Portrait' and 'Landscape' dimensions are reversed, resulting in compressed images.

Using Windows 7, home edition. In print preview, when in Portrait mode, the page to be printed is shown in a vertical format, but the page layout is horizontal. It is reversed in Landscape.
Prints come out compressed and unreadable.

P30 shuts down when running virus scan and other apps

Hi,
I've got a Satellite P30-110. Lately it has started to shutdown without warning and power off. When I start it back up again it loads normally without a scandisk.
It first started when I was using FAST via crossover cable. It would shutdown shortly after starting to gather the files. Then it started happening when I tried to run a virus scan using McAfee VirusScan 9. Now it also happens when I try to encode video.
I have tried doing all of the above after starting in Safe Mode, running msconfig and disabling all startup items and normally. Still I get the exact same result.
I have not installed any new hardware or software. I have updated my BIOS to v1.3. My notebook is plugged in when this happens. I have enough HD space. I just don't have a clue as to whats happening!! Please help!

Hi there, The simplest way is to use a vacuum cleaner hose on the fan grills as described in an earlier post. However, if ther is a lot of dust and debris stuck in the heat sink then it may be necessary to remove the heat sink first. This can be done by removing the cover on the bottom of the notepad (adjacent to the fan grilles), and then remove the screws holding the heat sink in place.
Note that the heat sink will be attached with contact paste to help the heat dispersal. Please don't forget to power off the PC first, and also make sure that there is sufficient contact paste when refitting the hest sink.

When I first got my firefox os phone the radio worked great but since installing a couple of apps (Recorder and Piano) I can no longer get any sound out of radio or either of the apps, nor my videos, either via speaker or headphone although both speaker and headphones work fine for voice calls still.

The games may just put more demands on the ipad than it can handle. You can try giving your ipad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home buttons for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot.
Another thing you can do to reduce the strain, close apps.
If you have iOS 6, double tap the home button. You'll see the app icons line up at the bottom of the screen. Hold your finger down on the icons until they start to shake. You'll see a white minus in the red circle. Tap on that to force close the app. then single tap the home button to exit the mode.
If you ahve iOS7, double tap the home button. You'll see the app icons and previews on the screen. Scroll sidways if needed to get the apps you want to close on the screen. to close an app, flick that preview up and off the screen. Single tap the home button or tap on the home screen to exit the mode.
You can help the performance of your device by closing down any apps you aren't using.
