Acrobat X hangs when using "Save as compressed pdf" function
I have several users who, when working remotely over VPN, have Acrobat X hang when trying to use the "Save as compressed PDF" to save to either a network drive or to their local machine. The system works fine while in the office however. All other programs and save functionality is fine while connected to the VPN, and I am able to save files directly to the network share or local machine outside of Acrobat. I have removed and reinstalled Acrobat and the program will complete a save normally the first time it's used after the reinstalltion, but will then start failing and hanging again after that. I believe I am at v10.0.7.
Any and all insight will be greatly appreciated!
Hey Lori –
Yes, that’s the option! Sorry don’t have a copy of the software on my own PC to verify against.

Hi,
So I want to create a new folder within my main user home directory (not the root directory) just for my developer-related files? I can do this from Finder, although it does prompt me for my password to do so. However, when using 'Save As' from any app, the 'New Folder' button is greyed out when I select my user home directory. So I have to create the folder in Finder then Save As.
Is this normal behavior? Is OSX discouraging me from adding things to my user home directory by making it less convenient? Is there a good reason it would be discouraging me from creating new folders there? If not, is there a setting that I can change to allow the creation of new folders from the Save As prompt?
Thanks for your help,
BYou may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

Mac user, PS CC 2014 latest version. When using "Save for Web" I bring my 900 x600px @72 ppi in to SFW and the output becomes 300ppi. The only way it stays at 72ppi is if I check "none" for metadata. I know to should not matter much, but I would prefer to keep all my web jpgs @ 72ppi. Any solutions?
It opens up as 900x600 @300ppi

How stop PS6 from removing the DPI value from an image when using "save for the web"?
How stop PS6 from removing the DPI-value from an image when using "save for the web"?
Example:
- Open a tif image, that contains a dpi value (resolution).
- Use the splice tool in PS6.
- Export the slices with "Save for web", as gif-files.
Then the dpi value is removed, the gif files has no dpi value (it's empty).
How can we stop PS6 from removing the dpi value when using "save for web"?
OR:
When using the slice tool, how can we save the sliced pieces without PS removing the dpi value?you can make your art go a little bit over the bounds. or you can make sure your artboart and art edges align to pixels

WLS 8.1 hanging when using XA
I am having an issue with BEA 8.1 hanging when using XA. I have configured it
on several other Windows 2000 machines and not seen an issue. This particular
machine seems to hang and then give a time out error. ANy suggestions would
be appreciated. Below is the error that I am getting back and a thread dump.

Windows XP has been getting security patches every month for over a decade. So it seems likely that people will continue to discover vulnerabilities in Windows XP that, over time, will be exploited (i.e., used in attacks).
Windows 8.1? For a good experience, you probably would be better off getting a new computer than installing 8.1 on a system that is several years old. I realize not everyone's budget permits.
What else can you do? It remains useful and important to keep your third party applications, such as Firefox, and your browser add-ons, such as Flash, up-to-date. It's also a good idea to run quality security software. And practice safe browsing habits like avoiding questionable websites and peer-to-peer networking, and being suspicious of email attachments. -
Hello!
We have the following problem:
LabView (8.2) hangs when using I/O operations with traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4 after aborting LabView program
We freshly installed LabView 8.2 (2006) and NI-DAQ 7.4.4 on a PC running Windows XP (Service Pack 3). We built a larger vi that remotely controls a traditional NI-DAQ card (AT-AO-10) on a second PC via NI-VISA 5.0.3. We were successfully running this program until a power failure caused the first computer to crash. After this crash we were unable to start the program again: LabView freezes while loading the vi. LabView itself can be started but freezes when adding I/O operations from the NI-DAQ palette to a block diagram.
We have tried to re-install NI-DAQ 7.4.4, but it did not help. We then re-installed all NI software, but still no improvement. In the end we decided to reinstall ALL software, first Windows XP, then LabView and finally NI-DAQ 7.4.4. This worked. However, after a few days of running the program we had to abort LabView via Windows Task manager and afterward we again experienced the same problem as before: LabView freezes when loading the program.
Obviously, we cannot afford to reinstall Windows every time. Are there any known Windows XP / NI-DAQ issues that might cause the freezing of LabView? We would be very grateful for any idea.
Best regards,
MatthiasHello Sprice,
Browse the shipping examples according to “Directory Structure” and then select

There a lot of examples that are written for counters (Counter >>

Problems with COLOUR when using "save as".
Running on Mac, get dulled out and purple colour tone when using "Save As". When using "Save for Web.." colours are OK. Colour profiles and images coming into Raw are set as sRGB. Can anyone help?? I do have to convert to 8 bit to save as JPG. Any help appreciated.
The Print version is what a ProPhoto file looks like when viewed as if it was sRGB - i.e. in a non-color managed application. So there's still a ProPhoto profile here.
Here you can see how the colors shift by going between sRGB and ProPhoto (using assign and/or convert). Your original is in the middle. You can see it's the very same color shift:
If you convert to sRGB and you still get the same outcome, which you shouldn't, maybe the preferences are corrupt. Or maybe user error and you still have ProPhoto embedded. -

Where is "save as compressed pdf"??
I've just started using OS X 10.5.2 (it came on my new MacBook; I use 10.3.9 or 10.4.11 on my other computers) and discovered the lack of a "save as compressed pdf" option with the new OS. Any suggestions as a replacement since this is something I use multiple times daily?
I use this feature to save illustration-rich PowerPoint slides in a compressed format for posting to Blackboard or WebCT. I know I can "save as pdf" to create a master pdf with the new OS and then open that pdf file with Preview and compress it to save again (with a different name) as a smaller file. However the Mac OS help under 10.4.11 cautions that this will create a file of inferior quality plus the onus of having to do several additional steps and to then end up with two pdf versions of the same PowerPoint file.
Any idea why this feature disappeared with 10.5.2 when it's been available in the previous versions of OS X?OK, I see what you mean about less than adequate quality on some of the images and words. My own writing on the power point slides comes out clear, but some of the writing associated with some of the images came out less than stellar.
Colorsync was almost beyond my grade level, but I was able (finally) to put a protocol together to make a “filter” that would compress but not as much.
Below are the steps I took; its not quite so bad, and hope this works,
Paul
Steps to alter compression of pdf files
1. Use spotlight to find and open Colorsync Utility
2. For me it opened to “Profile First Aid Log”; you don’t want this; instead,
Click on Filters on the list of icons on the top (has a red, green and blue filter appearance, next to calculator on right)
3. The 7th line down reads “Reduce File Size”; click on button on the far right
4. Click on “Duplicate Filter” on the menu that pops up
This creates a new line at the bottom of the menu that reads
“Reduce File Size Copy”
5. Click on the left button next to “Reduce File Size Copy”
Several items should come up including one called “image compression”
6. Click the left button next to “Image compression”
You should see a line that reads “Quality”
7. Push the quality button to the right of the word “Quality” to the far right.
You are now done creating an altered colorsync profile.
To compress a pdf, you then
1. Open the pdf file using Preview
2. Click on “File”, then “Save As”
3. In the section that says “Quartz Filter”, click on the blue button on the right
4. Click on the line that reads “Reduce File Size Copy” (this is what you have created from above)
5. Before pressing “Save”, be sure to rename your file to something new in the “Save as” box at the top (e.g., change from “File” to “File compressed”)
6. Press Save.
Doing it this way, I converted a 10.4 MB pdf into a 2.2 MB pdf.
Some of the figures were still a tad blurry, but it was better.
If I used the original filtering, I got a file that was 612 KB. Writing on the figures was a tad worse.
And yes, it was a lot easier and nicer when “compress pdf” was a feature of Power Point. -
When using the "Fill & Sign PDF" feature, is there a way to stretch to size the text box on a specific area of the page...instead of the text box going on in one straight long line....? I'm not seeing there's an option or ability to do so, just wanting to confirm.
Improving the handling of multiple line text fields is in our plans, but for now, you will have to add manual carriage returns (Enter).
Thanks,
Josh -
Printer is asking for PDF but when I save psd to PDF the dimensions change
I am trying to save psd files to pdf for a printer. He wants them 3.75 x 2.25 inches. I am creating the psd files in CMYK color as he needs. The dimensions are 3.75 X 2.25 inches but when I save the Photoshop PDF it is much smaller 270 X 262. I don't want to send it to him incorrectly. Any advice for me?
Thanks in advance. You still didn’t say what the units for those numbers were.
Anyway: pdf is currently the standard for print, and even having to open psd would be time the printers want to save, I guess, or want to get paid for.
Moreover many (or most) print-shops have automatic preflighting-, reseparation- and montage-systems that are based on that format.
If You got a window like this:
you did not open the pdf, but imported it, meaning a complete re-interpretation took place – so even if the pdf may have been at 72ppi it would be up-scaled to the selected values. -

Acrobat Professional hangs when converting word to PDF
I am using Acrobat Professional version 7 and when i use the Convert to PDF option for a large word document it goes through the motions of converting the document but then seems to hang and i get no PDF document created. Also the Word document then says read only in the title as well.
It works fine for small word documents just not large files with pictures.
I have tried uninstalling Acrobat Prof and Office 2003 and re-installing both and it makes no difference.
Can anyone provide any information on what i can try to fix this issue as
i am out of ideas.
Thanks
LawrenceEmpty the TEMP folder or print to the Adobe PDF printer. The latter might be worth trying to be sure things are working.
You may have to uncheck a lot of the options in the PDF Maker preferences, particularly tags. Keep in mind that large graphics require a lot of disk space in the translation as the PS format is not very memory efficient for graphics (at least from what I have seen). You might also make a copy of the DOC file and then select a graphic and choose format. In the lower left corner of the general tab is a compress button. Try that to reduce the graphics resolution and see if that solves the problem.
