Acrobat X Highlight Text Tool Problem

I am having trouble using the highlighter in Acrobat X. When one highlights text, the text is backlit with the color of the highlighter...at least that's how highlighting is supposed to work (and how it worked in Acrobat 9.x and how it works in Microsoft Word). My experience thus far is that when I hightlight text in Acrobat X, the highlight color is painted OVER the text, completely covering it so it can not be seen. Changing the opacity of the highlighter mere lets a very dim semblance of text show.  Below is an example of text highlighted in Acrobat X using the highlight tool, and for comparison, the same text hightlighted in Microsoft Word. In Acrobat the text is completely covered with the highlight color (and reducing the opacity of the highlighter doesn't solve the problem because the text is barely viewable until highlighter opacity is set to near ZERO).
I would like to know how to get the highlighter to behave correctly (as it did in Acrobat 9.x and as it does in Word).

Since posting this, I have uncovered a solution on other posts in this form:
Go into Acrobat X prefs, then, under Page Display, UNcheck "Use 2-D Graphics Acceleration".
What 2-D graphics acceleration has to do with highlighting text is a complete mystery to me...and apparently to others on this forum. Most importantly, the problem is resolved.
I hope this helps others experiencing this problem...

  • Acrobat: summarize highlighted text only in a new document?

    Hi everyone,
I have marked some passages with the "highlight text"-tool in a big pdf file and want to extract only the marked text in a new file. Is this possible?
So far I could only print a new file with information ABOUT the highlighted text, but not the highlighted text itself.
This means I get a file telling me only who highlighted the text and when he did that.
I'm using Adobe Acrobat X, but if you know another program that is able to do this please tell me!
    Thanks for your help!

Although i generally recommend people to user PDFMaker as it provides more features. But if you have already converted the files using PDF Printer, you can also creates tags. Try this:
    1). Open PDF in Acrobat.
    2). Click on Tools-> Accessibility.
    3). Add Tags to document.
4). Save the document and then try the steps I mentioned above. This resolves the issue related to Tags.
You can also do that in MS Word once the PDF is tagged.
1). Open MS Word. Click on Acrobat Tab
2). Click on Acrobat Comments->Import Comments from Acrobat.
3). Now Follow step 6,7,8, and 9 and you are done.
Once you get the comments exported to word you need to change the layout of those using features in word.
    Also, you can try this:
In the comments pane->Under Comments List-> Click on the bubbles and select Hide All Comments. No Click on the same bubble and select Type->Highlight. This will show you only Highlight annotations.
Now Click on Options(Box) and select create comment summary.
Under Comment summary select third radio button-> Comments Only.
For Include option -> Select Only the comments currentyly showing.
    Click Create Comments Summary
This will generate the PDF file with only highlight annotations.
Now you can easily export this to MS Word, Using SaveAs-> Microsoft Word-> Word Documents.
(This might create a problem if the highlighted tag is on a Scan document that is OCRed/ not OCRed. That may slightly change the layout). Otherwise its okey.
    Does that resolve the issue??
I am not sure if i followed the second issue of yours. Is update a problem or adding Acrobat tab in Word?

  • Highlight Text tool

Can you open a document in Adobe use the Highlight text tool to mark up the document and then save only the highighted text to another document?

I have the same problem (Highlight and other tools grayed out, no security restrictions in place), but when I try to find Edit>Preferences>Document to turn off PDF/A, that choice does not appear in the menu. The only mention of PDF/A in the help guide for my version of Acrobat is in "new features" and it does not tell me how to find this. How can I enable editing? I did not originate the document.
    Thanks!

  • Acrobat 9 TouchUp Text Helvetica problem

    Hi all,
I know this is dangerous territory, but I'm trying to use the TouchUp text tool to alter text in Helvetica, and no matter what I've tried I get Original Font: Helvetica, but Editing Font: Arial. If I select Helvetica from the Font list, it immediately switches back to Arial.
I'm pretty sure Arial isn't the same as Helvetica. ;-)
Is it just me? This happens when files are created using Helvetica in either the latest version of Pages or Word 2008, and when created using the built-in PDF engine or selecting the Adobe PDF 9.0 Printer.

Okay I am going to risk the wrath of asking further dumb question? is there more than on version of Helvelica, and what type it is it.
Acrobat does not accept TrueType fonts of any kind. I've run into this problems for years. It will accept Postscript fonts and OpenType fonts. Which is An Adobe hybrid version of postscript and TrueType.
go back to font Manager and go to the Helvetica listing. see what version you have turned on.
Also Locate some type of Utilities that Removes Fonts Caches. Use that to remove font cache then restart computer to rebuild the fonts caches. Some times they get mucked up and cause strange problems.
Remember we are hear to help. If a person ask a dumb question don't jump down their throat. you be surprised how many people do dumb things if they don't know better.
We don't know your level of expertise. You may have just got your first Mac day before yesterday. Then You may have cut your eye teeth on a Fat Mac or a 128K Mac.

  • TouchUp Text Tool problem

    Hello,
I'm using Acrobat Professional 8, and I'm trying to change text on a PDF document I received. I chose the TouchUp text tool, but when I tried to change the text I received this message:
"all or part of the selection has no available system font. you cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font"
I don't mind using another font, but I really need to change the text. how do i do it?
    thanks!

Select the text; right-click for properties; choose a font that you have on your system, and close. The text can then be edited.

  • Text Tool problems AE

I recently upgraded to cc from cs5 , I only had rendering issues on CS5. The rendering issues are now a thing of the past but, for some reason, my text tool in CC is not working. When I try to type, nothing happens. Anyone knows what can cause that?

Thank you guys. It's working now. I reset the character panel and it started working. Funny, I thought I did that twice before even posting the question but I guess it had failed. Thanks a million, you guys were really helpful. Mylenium Szalam .

  • Acrobat Professional 8 Text Color Problem

I have a question regarding Text Field Tool In Acrobat 8. I've tried a couple different things and nothing seems to work, I've looked through a bunch of questions on the forum and couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for - if anyone can help I'd be greatly appreciative!
I'm a designer and I'm trying to change the text color in an editable field for a client. The way I've designed the entire flier is for the text to be a specific color blue (C100 M45 Y0 K37 or R0 G58 B111 (- I know you can't ad a PMS color)) and I'd like to keep the editable field the same color.
I've tried both the "Properties" (Apple-E) and I've tried "right-clicking" --> Properties --> "Apperance" --> "Other text color" and here's where I think the problem lies. I can't pull down any menus within the "Colors" Palette? I can move the Gray Scale Slider (but can't change to a RGB or CMYK slider?). I can pick from the "Apple" List, the Image Spectrum, Color Wheel or a crayon color. It looks like these are all prepicked colors and I can't add my own. I know I can't do a PMS color but I thought I'd be able to specify a specific CMYK or an RGB color? Is this just not possible or am I doing something wrong? Please help, thanks!!!

HI. I've run into this same problem - not being able to change color modes to define a new color swatch in the color palette in acrobat 8/9. One way that I've been able to work around it is to open TextEdit, pressing command-t to show the fonts palette and then pressing the Text Color button within the fonts palette. This will cause the color palette (the same one used by Acrobat I believe) to open. From there, the pulldown menus are accessible, allowing me to create a CMYK swatch. Once I enter the proper percentages for the desired color, I can drag the main color swatch to the swatches section at the bottom of the color palette. Once the swatch is there, it will be available in Acrobat as well.
Another thing that I've noticed is that when using the color palette in Acrobat, if you choose a swatch that was defined using the CMYK slider from the swatch section, the color palette interface will change to the CMYK slider interface, allowing you to alter the color in Acrobat. This seems to be the quickest way to bypass the non-responsive color palette dropdown menus.

  • Highlight text tool causes all text to disappear on saving.  HELP!

I have lost HOURS of work.  I highlighted a document, as I have for years, but on saving it, ALL of the text has completely disappeared.  The document is now a bunch of yellow boxes - that's it.  What is going wrong all of a sudden???????

    Good day!
One sometimes surprisingly efficient trouble-shooting routine is trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed.
Other than that you might want to read this

  • Text tool problems in PSE 9

i am using pse 9.  when i attempt to insert text into a layer, what i type is not reflected on the photo. what am i doing wrong?
(thread title edited by forum host)

Click on the little arrow on the tool's option bar, top left, and reset the tool.
Be sure that you are using a font color which contrasts with the background.
It is possible that you may have to increase the pt size. You are not limited to the preset sizes in the drop-down. Type in a larger size --try 110 or 130.

  • Highlighting text in PDF document

I am a surgeon and subscribe to lot of medical journals which are now increasingly made available for downloading in PDF format. I am used to highlighting the important text in an article with an ordinary hi-lighter pen to make it easy when I need to go back to that article.
Is there a way one can highlight the text in a PDF document the way one can highlight it on a paper? Will professional versions of Acrobat solve my problem?

A little late for the original post, but for anyone else looking to highlight text in Acrobat Pro 9 and be able to change the highlighter color...
    Accessing the highlighter tool:
    Right-click on the Toolbar.
Select/check "Comment and Markup." This is the toolbar that contains the Highlight Text tool.
    Changing the highlighter color:
You can right-click on the highlighted text and go to Properties, etc, but there's a more convenient method.
While using the Highlight Text tool, turn on the Properties Bar (make it visible)
    Window:  Ctl+E
    Mac:  Cmd+E
Mouse:  Right-click on the Toolbar and select/check Properties Bar.
This will give you quick access to your highlighter properties, and it will remember your selected color between uses.
The Properties Bar is context aware and will change based on the tool you're actively using, so you have access to change your highlight color through it when the Highlight Text tool is selected/in use.

  • Problem Highlighting Text in Acrobat 9 Std - Cursor-Highlight Mismatch

I scan and often highlight the pdf documents I scan. I use Acrobat 9 Standard with Windows XP. Sometimes after I convert the page from an image to text so I can highlight text, the actual highlight does not cover the text I mark with my cursor. It sometimes highlights text above or below where my cursor is and on one occasion it was putting the highlight way down at the bottom of the page. Does anyone know why this happens and how I fix it?

    Hi,
You might want to look at the "touch up reading order" in advanced, accessibility options. The document will be tagged and you will see the structure of the page. I suspect that it has formatted the text into columns - you can use this tool to clear the page structure and reformat to make the whole page just text reading from left to right.

  • Acrobat XI Pro crashing when changing highlighted text properties

After install update 11.0.07 EVERY after highlighting a section of text and attempting to change the properties the program crashes, this is happening in ALL my documents with highlighted text
Here is what I see, first screen shot is a PDF file that I received. To rule out errors in the first file I created the file in the second screen shot with the same results in both files when attempting to change the highlighted text properties ie CRASH
I'm in two mind as to ether uninstall and re install and apply update 11.0.06 , as there was no problem then, as this only seemed to start when update 11.0.07 was applied. OR to totally remove and re-install and then apply update 11.0.07  and see if this continues
