Acrobat X not installed, although that's not what the Application Manager thinks!

I just tried to download and install several apps from Creative Cloud the first of which was Acrobat X Pro.
Once Acrobat had downloaded the Application Manager asked me to quit Safari to complete the installation, however, since I was still downloading the other apps I cancelled the installation assuming that I could go back and restart the installation at a later time.
All the other Apps (Illustrator, Photoshop and Muse) downloaded and installed fine, but, now when I try to go back and restart/reinstall Acrobat the Application Manager tells me that it is already Installed, when clearly it isn't.
Anyone have any ideas as to how I can reinstall Acrobat?

Did you try repairing the installaton from the Control Panel: Program and features?

    Hi smetanka,
Are you installing on Mac OS or Windows, and what version of the operating system are you using? Did you have a previous version of Acrobat on your system?

  • Application manager insisting I "renew my subscription" but I have a standalone version of acrobat. Any way to convince the manager that my product is registered? There does not seem to be any manual additions in the application manager app.

I am using Mac OS X (yosemite). I had a creative cloud student subscription for a year (expired in September) and I did not renew. However, I did purchase adobe acrobat XI. I am not sure of the exact day it stopped working (before or after OS upgrade), but now the application manager takes over after I start acrobat and insists I do not have a subscription and must renew. I checked the web and my product is registered and I have the serial number, which I enter upon installation. I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything to no avail. I even contacted adobe and they seemed to have a hard time understanding why I was having a problem since the product was registered. I could not devote much time to the online chat so needless to say, my problem still persists.

Moving this discussion to the Acrobat Installation & Update issues forum.
Adugasjr please remove your current installation of Acrobat and reinstall.  If you need a fresh copy of the installation files they are available at Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X.

  • Help please I can not openening because: Error opening the document,  Acrobat can not open the file while printing another document

Help, I ca not opening the file, beacause the mac says Error opening the document, Acrobat can not open the while printing another document

Thank you very much for your replies Taggert_77 & swmtgoet_x :D
Taggert77_: I have never used NetBeans. I only installed it in the bundle as I had read on another post that somehow installing the bundle magically helped another user with the same problem (he didn't know why it worked after that either).
Before XP SP3 I was able to execute .jar file through cmd prompt. Now I am not.
This file is executable, grab it and you will see. Here is a screen shot (program in front is FlashFXP, behind is the cmd prompt and what should happen):http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/53273b4ddf.jpg
swmtgoetx_: I only did the other cmd's to try to make it spit out something, anything lol :D
The proper cmd is simply: java -jar soht-client-0.6.2.jar
I did give your cmd a try, and it produced nothing :( (just like the other correct cmds)
    java -client -jar soht-client-0.6.2.jar soht.properties
    Thank you again...the mystery remains
PS. If you do a search for this you'll find an amazing amount of XP SP3 users with the same problem and no solution posted that I could find except one chap that did the unistall install order that I did above).

  • Trouble creating a pdf converting Word doc ..."Could not find the application that created the file"

    Hello,
I am working with Acrobat Pro 8 and am trying to create a pdf by converting a word doc. When I try that, I keep getting an error message, " Could not find the application that created this file...please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer." I can always convert a word into pdf first and then insert it into the pdf project that I am working on, however I have multiple files and I really would like to bypass that long step.
I found another thread in this forum which talks about a simillar issue (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/429585).I tried the solution suggested there by Bill@vt regarding the print menu. I am not really sure if t have distiller installed, so I tried opening it in acrobat, but it failed. During the process, I got the follwing message "Check the Status column for a list of files that could not be printed".I do not have any clue how to check for AcroTray running in the background.
I would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

If Distiller failed to open, it sounds like you need to do a repair of your Acrobat installation. Have not heard that one before!

  • Acrobat could not access the recognition service

I am getting the following error message when attempting to use the OCR function in Adobe Acrobat 8.1.3
Acrobat could not access the recognition service:
Unable to locate the Paper Capture recognition Service. Your installation may be corrupt.
This is probably due to either a low memory situation or an corrupt installation. If the problem is not cleared up by shutting down other applications and/or rebooting, then please re-install Acrobat.
It is certainly not a 'low memory situation'. It is not a 'corrupt user profile'. It was not fixed by uninstalling and re-installing.
    Help...

Just to be sure, you are trying to use the OCR that is part of AA8 and not the OCR service that is an online service? I think the latter was setup for use with AA8 Std. What menus and selections are you making to get OCR?

While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

Thanks for answering. The version is XI.0.10. I just did the update yesterday hoping that I could now properly edit a scanned pdf document. Yes, it's happening on most all scanned documents. I followed your steps & found the list of fonts used in the document & then attempted to edit. The same occurs. When I type in a correction, I get an error alert... "the original font (in this case Fd 5805) is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Minion Pro in its place."
When I select the text & right click as you suggested, my only choices are cut, copy, delete or select all, no "edit text".
I have no other options to choose another font. Thanks for any help you can direct my way.

  • "Could not find the application that created this file" error when trying to combine files

I am working with a user that is trying to combine a pdf & word doc (docx).  When they try to combine the files she gets the error:  "Could not find the application that created this file" & "Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer".  The computer is running windows XP, with office 2010 SP1, & Adobe Acrobat Pro X.
Per previous suggestions, I have already checked to see if Adobe PDFMaker is enabled as a Word plugin, and it is.
Recentley the user was running Acrobat 6, and this error did not occur.  It is only after upgrading to Acrobat X that this is happening.  Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

This can also be caused if the files are in a folder deep in the file system. For example C:/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/yyyyyyyyyyyyyyy/zzzzzzz/aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa/bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb /cccccccccccccccccccc/dddddddddddddddd/eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee/ffffffff/ggggggg/hhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhh/myPDF.pdf
At some point Adobe PDFMaker cannot handle the path length (also, Windows can't handle the path length either eventually)
Solution: move the files to a shorther path (perhaps the desktop) and try from there.
I am filing a bug report with Adobe. A descriptive exception message should be thrown instead of "could not file the app.."

  • Print Problem - PDF is OK on Windows 7, but OK on Windows XP with "Acrobat Reader An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem."

I have received a PDF which prints fine in Windows 7 but with Windows XP I get "Acrobat Reader An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem." and a blank piece of paper passes through the printer. I appreciate that Windows XP is no longer supported but I would like to think that the solution to this problem is not too difficult!
    I have tried Acrobat 9, 10 and 11.
Any advice (apart from use Windows 7! ) would be most welcome.
    Many thanks.

If you use the same Adobe Reader versions with the same PDF on Windows 7 and XP, then I would expect the outcome to be the same.
Is this a local or online PDF?
If local, is the file really exactly the same?
    If online, in what browser?

  • Everytime I use firefox to connect to the internet I get an alert saying that firefox could not initialize the applications security component. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

When I use firefox to get on to the web I get the following message everytime: "Alert: Could not initialize the applications security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your applications pforfile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security feactures." Once I click the "OK button" at the bottom of the alert box firefox starts but does not act right. For instance it will not let me look for software updates. When I click on "Check for Updates" from the "Help" drop down menu I get a message stating: "There were problems checking for, downloading, or installing this update. Firefox could not be updated because: Update XML file malformed (200). You can update firefox manually by visiting this link and downloading the latest version."

  • Error in Acrobat 8: An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly...?

    Hi,
We perform the e-signing on any PDF using our custom e-signature plug-in. Once that's done, when we try re-opening the PDF in Acrobat version 8.0.0.0, we get the following error:-
"An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem"
Please note that this error occurs intermittently and is NOT observed in Acrobat 7 or 9.  Also, when a plain PDF is opened (i.e. a PDF without any signature on it) then there is NO error.
Could you let me know what could be the issue here? I read it in Acrobat 8.1.3 release notes that such an error was a known bug in version 8.0.0.0 (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407016.html), but I am not sure of its cause.
    Let me know your comments/suggestions.
    Thanks!

I am getting the same error even in Acrobat version 8.1.3.
Additionally, I noticed that if we click on menu ‘Advanced->Sign&Certify->Preview Document’, then we get a notification as “This document is not PDF/SigQ compliant and may display inconsistently”. On clicking  ‘View report’ on that notification, the below dialog pops up. It has errors listed as:-
Code 4000 : Unrecognized PDF content. The document contains PDF content or custom content not supported by the current version of Acrobat.
Code 4002: PDF content contains erros.
However, if we sign the PDF using default adobe signature functionality and reopen that PDF, the error does NOT come and the notification also says ‘This document is PDF/SigQ compliant’.
Can anybody please suggest what could be missing in the custom sign that we apply? Is it because of any of the missing fonts or any other resources?
    Awaiting reply!
    Regards.

  • Acrobat could not open the file because it is either not a support

Acrobat could not open the file because it is either not a support file type or because the file has been damaged?

What it means is what it says.
    Where is the file from?
What makes you sure that Adobe Reader is the right program to open it?

  • Could Not Find The Application That Created This File

    Hello Community,
I have already been to the Acrobat forum with this post and they re-directed me to this forum.
My problem seems to be with a InDesign file that will not export to a PDF, nor can I create the PDF from within Acrobat itself.  BTW I have Acrobat 8.1.6 on a Vista OS.
Here is what I've done thus far:
restarted my computer, which didn't correct anything
printed the InDesign file to the PDF printer unsuccessfully
Checked for InDesign and Acrobat updates and found I'm current with the updates
Please NOTE:  I have no problem with creating a PDF with either a Word or Illustrator file; it's the InDesign file that's giving me a problem.  The message I get when I try to export from within InDesign to a PDF file is "Could not find the application that created this file; please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer."
Please help.  Thank you very much.

    Hi John,
Before replying to you, I decided to give it another go.  This time out, I
was finally able to export the InDesign file, which I created, to a PDF.
    Hooray!
I have found, in the past, that restarting my computer will clear something
in my system, and then I can create the PDF.  Sometimes this inability to
create a PDF happens in Word.  But this time around it was InDesign that was
    the problem file.
Maybe it has something to do with the preferences menu.  I'll have to check
this out.  Otherwise, all is fine.  Thanks for answering.--Pat
