Acrobat X (only) pauses for minutes when opening a new PDF

If I just had a PDF file open, close it, then reopen it, Acrobat X (specifically) won't pause. But if I try to open a new PDF file, Acrobat X will open it but then will hang for as long as 3 minutes before letting me edit it.
Why does Acrobat X do this.

I see this behavior too. It hangs and won't accept mouse commands for 30 seconds when opening a new document. It also won't let me close the window "application not responding."

I want to set up Acrobat X to automatically run OCR text recognition when I open a new PDF that was sent to me via email. I accidentally clicked the "do not show me this again" box when it would auto prompt to run upon opening. I was thinking that if I checked "do not show me this again" it would remember my choices and automatically run it each time.

Maybe... under Acrobat Preferences, General section there is a Reset All Warnings button.

Acrobat pauses for 30sec when opening any pdf

Acrobat pauses for 30 seconds after I open any pdf. It will bring up the document, but I cannot do anything with it, like zoom, scroll, or even highligh buttons. If I click on anything, the menu bar will white out. After ~30 seconds, the menu bar goes back to normal and everything works perfectly. If I have Acrobat already open and then open a file, I usually do not have this problem. If I open a file holding down the shift key it still pauses. I can create pdf's no problem and have no other errors, just the pause on opening.
I have Acrobat 9 Pro version 9.3.0 and all the updates. I have tried repairing the install. Removing and uninstalling and no change. Running on a Core 2 Duo 2 GHz, 1GB ram, Win XP. No other problems with the computer. This is just really frustrating when opening a lot of files searching for something. Thanks for any help.

Apparently it is the update from 9.0.0 to 9.3.0 that is causing this.

I recently have installed Adobe Master Suite CS6 Collection. My Adobe acrobat X Pro does not respond after a minute I open up a pdf file. This happens every time when open a new pdf file. My operating system is Windows 7 pro ( Lenovo-64 bits). Any suggestions would be appreciated !!

I ran for the memory diagnostics as it showed the error with video card error. My NVDIA graphics card is not working properly. Do you think that could be a problem?I am running on Windows 7 64 bit computer. It also complains about the incompatibility with 64 bits.

Getting Prompt for Credentials When Opening InfoPath 2010 Form in Sharepoint 2010

I have a domain user who runs Office 2010 x32 and uses a Sharepoint 2010 site daily. Lately a specific page on that site has been randomly giving prompts for credentials when opening existing documents and creating new ones. The process can be most easily
replicated by opening the new document template in Infopath by going to Documents -> New in the ribbon bar of the SP page. Most of the time the Windows credentials for the user are passed to Infopath/Sharepoint automatically (which is normal), but on the
fourth or fifth attempt to create a new form, the prompt appears. The user can still enter the credentials and open the blank template form, but a prompt should not appear. The user is also the administrator for that page, so I'm thinking it's not a permissions
issue.
The user is running IE 9 on Windows 7 Pro x64. I have performed the following:
Reset advanced IE settings and all user cache data
Cleared cached Sharepoint credentials in Windows credential manager
Re-applied group policy for the machine using gpupdate /force
Logged in with a clean temporary profile
Logged in to another domain account using the user's Sharepoint credentials
Cleared Infopath cache
Re-installed Office 2010 x32
The problem only occurs only on this particular machine. There are no Sharepoint or authentication-related errors or warnings in the application and system event logs. There are also no error messages on-screen when the prompt appears. I also considered
the possibility of this being a performance related issue in the case that maybe Infopath was taking too long to start, causing the credential pass-through process to time out and fall back to a prompt. I ran disk cleanup, deleted some temporary files, and
checked for excessive CPU/memory load. I didn't find any issues and doing these things did not help.
I'm convinced there is another setting somewhere in Windows that is causing this. Interestingly it always happens after four or five attempts, never the first time. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi Titan, this sounds like an IE security setting issue. Things to do:
1. In Internet options>Security>Local Intranet, make sure "Enable Protected Mode" is not selected.
2. Under Sites>Advanced, add https://*.sharepoint.com (and make sure "Require server verification..." is not checked).
3. Under Security>Custom Level, scroll all the way to the bottom and make sure "Automatic logon with current user..." is checked.

When opening a new tab, bottom row becomes "hidden" behind main window and only becomes revisible when tab on hidden row is closed.

I have the browser set to show five rows of tabs, however, even on the third row (I have not closed enough tabs to test if this happens on the second row), when opening a new tab, the top of the webpage gets moved up to cover the bottom row of tabs, save for a sliver at the top. The only way to re-expose the tabs seems to be to close any tab in the bottom row -- closing tabs in other rows does nothing with the problem.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

When I check the Document Properties on Acrobat I can see that the fonts used in the document (Cambria, Times and Windings) are listed as "Embedded Subset" in the Fonts panel. The machine it was created on did use an earlier version of OS X and an old version of Word, but it seems to have the proper fonts...

My girlfriend had this same issue. It ended up being her cable.
It was very weird and confussing as the first cable would allow the phone to show up on my laptop but not my girlfriends. So we thought the cable was fine.
Further the first cable would allow the iPhone to sync with itunes on her laptop but not show up in her "My Computer."
By chance we tried a different cable and it worked fine on her laptop and instantly showed up in her "My Computer."
All very weird but try a couple different cables and see if that fixes the problem first before resorting to other time consuming steps.

I filled in this form with important data. And saved it. I have since opened it and printed it again. Now when I open it the fields become blank I can see them for a split second as it clears them.
I believe I have updated to Reader XI since I filled it in.

Are you using Adobe Reader XI? And not Acrobat. It does not ask me to save the form if there are unsaved changes.
I have used previous versions of reader for saving this form data and it did allow me to save it with ctrl+s. And those versions did prompt me to save the changes before closing.
I guess I should not have updated the reader.

somewhere on updating, I picked up a yahoo toolbar, which I did not like. One of the tasks it performed was to bring up a yahoo search and news box when opening a new tab every time. I have not been able to uninstall it or shut it off, Any ideas where to start. When opening the new tab, it starts at "click,w3i.com" and then goes to "search.yahoo.com" and has some trending searches and latest news, My network is slow enough with out waiting for all these things to pass. But it seems the OP has a setup where the media is on the external drive, and the library files are on the internal. This is what I refer to as a split library, Migrating such from one computer to another is not straightforward. Often iTunes will have some definite idea about where the files should live, and updating the setting of the media folder won't change that. If it requires a drive letter change that is usually not too hard, but sometimes there is another preference file that needs tweaking to indicate which of the old & new layouts for the library is being used. In more extreme cases I have a script for automatically making track by track repairs.

Font pack required when opening an English PDF?

Hi,
Recently I am facing a problem with Adobe Reader 10.1. A font pack is required when opening a dynamic PDF generated from Adobe LiveCycle Designer. There is no other language than English is being designed to the PDF. This scenario is only happened when I am trying to open the PDF from Thailand localize Windows OS.
Below is the font reference from the PDF.

I don't know why this is happening. The first thing I would try is to update Adobe Reader to 10.1.9 or 11.0.6.
