Acrobat X plugin buttons are clipped

Hi,
We are in the process of adjusting our old Acrobat plugins (C++, Acrobat 8.0/9.0 SDK) to be compatible with Acrobat X. Our plugin consist of several buttons, which (in Acrobat X) now appear in an area in the 'Tools' panel.
I've attched to this discussion 3 screenshots to see the issue.
We have seen variable results in Windows Acrobat X with the appearance of the plugin's toolbuttons.
When runnnig Acrobat X in standalone mode (normal desktop application), initially the buttons are clipped by the region (area) they reside in the 'Tools' panel (see image #1). Occasionally with 10.0, we were able to see them fully drawn, but it was random. With 10.1, they're always clipped. Expanding the upper areas of upper plugins (For example: 'Sign & Certify') causes our plugin area to expand and the buttons are no longer clipped. So this is a workaround (see Image #2 - After opening 'Sign & Certify' and then re-opening 'Select & Zoom').
But... Our plugin is relevant only when Acrobat X is hosted in a browser (it integrated with a web application).
When running Acrobat X "in browser" (Acrobat plugin for IE or Safari) and expanding the 'Tools' panel the only visible plugin is ours, so the buttons are always clipped (Image #3).
We tried making each toolbutton 32x32 (the icons in the images are 32x32), and that helped to display more of the buttons, but the same area was provided, effectively cutting our toolbuttons in half. There doesn't appear to be anything in the AVTool interface to control this strange clipping behavior.
Is there a workarounf for this issue?
Did anyone encounter this problem?
Where should I start? (please suggest...)
Thanks.
Omri

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Browsing History

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

  • Upgraded to Firefox 5.0. Cannot keep my refresh, stop & home buttons organised. Lost my plugin buttons (yes they ARE compatible with 5). View toolbars customise shows me them again, but the done they disappear again. Firefox 5 is buggy.

Why have my buttons gone. No refresh, reload, stop and No plugin buttons. cannot get them back- even with view toolbars customise and dragging them back to the left because when I am 'done' they magically disappear again. Fix this bug. Help me

Firstly, try following the instructions here:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Toolbar%20keeps%20resetting
Hopefully, after doing that, the buttons should stay where you put them.
As far as the reload/stop buttons are concerned, they've been effectively merged into a single button. It is possible to split them though. When customising, drop a "Flexible Space" widget so that it is situated between both buttons (they always show as two separate buttons in the customisation mode).
It's also worth noting that, if you want plugin icons to appear on a status bar, you can re-instate this behaviour with the help of the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/ Status-4-Evar] extension.

  • Creating an Adobe Acrobat Reader Plugin (Licensing)

    Adobe Acrobat Reader Plugin
    Hi,
Does anyone know how to go about getting an Adobe Reader plug-in working?
I've read all the 'Adobe Reader Integration Key License Agreement' stuff but I'm a little confused.
My plug-in is specific to my application (it allows a button to be added to Adobe Reader which passes the file name to my application)-nothing complicated.
How do I go from an Adobe Acrobat plug-in to make it an Adobe Reader plug-in also?
Is there really a cost involved in doing this?
Any help and guidance on this would be really appreciated.
    Regards
    Stuart

Note: it is now called Adobe Reader. Adobe Acrobat Reader was the name 10 years ago.
Yes, there really is a cost. You apply to Adobe, and they examine your case and justification. They might approve it, and equally, they may reject it. Then they will negotiate a price with you, perhaps with a one-off cost and perhaps with an annual fee, or both. The fee will depend on volumes and type of plug-in. The most expensive are DRM plug-ins, which seem to demand five figures, recurring.
Finally, if approved and paid for, they issue you with a key and you use it to transform your Acrobat plug-in into one that can load in Reader (it remains loadable in Acrobat). This will be valid for a specific release of Reader only.

  • Once I add my .swf to Dreamweaver, the buttons are not clickable, how can I fix this?

    Hello there,
I'd just like to start out by saying that this is the first time I have posted on these forums, so if I have done anything wrong, I apologize!
Anyway, about my question, just like the title says, once I import the .swf into Dreamweaver the buttons are not clickable, however when tested outside of Dreamweaver, they work correctly.
Basically I have an animated banner with some audio and two buttons, the buttons mute and unmute the music.
The file consists of two layers, one of which has 2 keyframes, the first keyframe has the Audio with the settings; "Effect: None. Sync: Start, Loop" and a button leading to the next frame.
The next keyframe (still on layer one) has much of the same but the Audio settings are different; "Effect: None. Sync: Stop, repeat x 1" and this will stop the music.
Now on the other layer (Rocket) I have a movie clip of a space-themed background and a rocket flying across it, the movie clip is made up of a motion tween and another movie clip which is the rocket.
I am using Flash CS6 and Dreamweaver CS6 on a Windows 7 computer. I am also using Actionscript 2.0
    I apologize for the amount of information and I'm not very briliant at explaining things, so here are some images of the flash file, hopefully they'll help;
    Layer setup - http://i.imgur.com/iZHwfAw.jpg
    The movie clip - http://i.imgur.com/ayvPJUZ.jpg
Keyframe one sound settings - http://i.imgur.com/LWbnQhO.jpg
Keyframe two sound settings - http://i.imgur.com/7kS9dO2.jpg
Actionscript for the first button/first keyframe - http://i.imgur.com/x6ROqPv.jpg   - (The second button/keyframe has the same code, but obviously the instance name and frame number has been changed)
Again, I apologise if this all seems confusing!
Thanks in advance for any answers to this question
    Adam.

If you did not create this swf yourself then you won't be able to do what I am suggesting.  If you did, then open the fla in Flash and go into the Publish Settings and select the option to publish an html file as an output.  That will create an html page that embeds the Flash file.  Test that file in your browser and see if it plays properly.  IF so, then copy that code in place of whatever Dreamweaver did to embed the Flash.
Dreamweaver is not a reliable tool for embedding Flash content... why it does not do it the same way Flash does it is anyone's guess.

I know there are some problems with Question Slides, but I'm using them as timesavers. Building question slides yourself takes a lot more time. When I started using them, I had to find the right settings to get the results I wanted, but now mostly I do not have that much problems anymore (if the internet connection is not failing).
What are your Quiz settings: can the user have more than one attempt, do you allow Backward movement, Review possibility etc? Is the uploading to a LMS (which one), what were the Manifest settings?

  • PPT action buttons are not present in pdf file upon conversion

    Hi
Am using Office 2003 (SP3) and Acrobat 8 (version 8.1.6).
Have been using action buttons in the presentations for several years, works fine.
When converting existing files, action buttons in both PPT show and pdf file just works, no problems.
Newly generated presentations work fine as PPT show. But when converted to pdf file, the action buttons are simply missing.
Have verified that all action buttons are "at front", same result.
Have tried to avoid corporate templates by creating a blank presentation and building a small and simple navigating presentation. Again, works fine as PPT show. And again, upon conversion there are no action buttons present in the pdf file.Corporate changes thereby should be ruled out.
Have checked all settings (including "Adobe PDF, Change Conversion Settings") between a working and a non-working PPT file, can't identify any differences.
A colleague helped out (using Acrobat 6), same result. But upon activation of "Adobe PDF, Change Conversion Settings, Restore Defaults", the action buttons worked for him. Tried it with Adobe 8, no such luck.
Have trialed the "Prep 4 PDF" tool, then the PDF file is complete and the "go to slide" keys appear and work again.
All new updates available are installed, anyone experienced the same and found a fix for this trouble?

Have tried both ways, same result.
When working with new presentations, the pdf file is viewable, but the action buttons are not present.
When working with past presentations, the action buttons are present and do work as expected.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Acrobat SDK plugin in Visual Studio 2012

    Hello
I am trying to develop a plugin for Acrobat SDK. We are using Visual Studio 2012 here at work but as the samples seemed to require using Visual Studio 2010 I had to resort to downloading Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Express and trying to run the examples there. I managed to get the BasicPlugin to work by building it and copying the BasicPlugin.api file into the plug_ins directory and the menu and menu item would show.
Since then I have been battling by using Visual Studio 2012 to work the same way and have used two different attempts, first by including the header files in the solution and then replicating the samples more closely by setting the includes (Additional Include Directories) in the Property Pages for the project and having other settings in the same way, but to no avail.
Is it not possible to use Visual Studio 2012 or is there something I am missing?
I must confess that my C++ is rather rusty as I normally use C#.
Please find the two projects here if that helps explain my problem:
    OneAcrobatPlugin.zip - Box
    OneAdobePlugin.zip - Box

It probably won't be impossible, but having worked through this many, many years ago (with different versions), it will demand a great deal of experiment, detailed analysis of the type of project and all of the options and included files; in some cases the header files need intelligent adjustment. A plug-in is a type of DLL with very specific requirements as everything has to match the internal conventions used to build Acrobat. Plug-ins are not like ordinary apps because they become a true part of the app that runs them, and any error crashes the whole app. It is not, frankly, worth the time needed to do such a port at your stage, especially as you won't be able to know whether your problems are due to porting issues or inexperience with plug-ins.

  • Bug in Acrobat Reader Plugin for FF?

    Hi,
i use a web application which pulls pdf reports from a server by http-post requests, so parameters are transmitted in the requests-body.
As a viewer i do use Acrobat Reader Plugin, most recent release with FF 3.0.3 on Windows XP pro.
So due of the http-post requests the requested url remains always the same for every report.
    The problem:
In case of two reports having the same content-length, the former requested report is displayed as the result of the last request, though the content is different.
    The effect could be reproduced.
Obviously the plugin cant distinguish the reports. With Acrobat Reader as the Viewer and with IE and Adobe AddOn all reports are displayed correct.
Beside the http-post implmentation may not be the best way to do this, is this a bug or mishandling by the user.
    Regards
    Chris

  • Acrobat X plugin running in Browser cannot save pdf files locally

    Hi,
I have a Digital Signature plugin written for Acrobat X and it handles both signature creation and verification. When a PDF with digital signatures is opened in a browser (specifically IE8, IE9) acrobat X runs in browser mode and it calls our digital signature plugin. Our plugin then saves the online PDF to local disk using the following Acrobat X SDK method:
    PDDocSave()
This normally works fine without any problems under windows 7. However, there are some cases where the PDF does not get saved at all. In that case, if we try running Internet Explorer using "Run as admin", saving starts to work again. From this we have concluded that the saving functionality of our plugin requires Internet Explorer to be run as admin.
Problem is that, for users without admin rights this behavior is not ideal.
We have also noted that, if we try to save the PDF opened in a browser using the default save feature of acrobat X, then the save goes through successfully.
Question is, how can we make our plugin to save the pdf the same way acrobat X does when run under browsers?  What options do we have?
    My system specs: Windows 7 64bit,   Acrobat X v.10.1.4 (occurs in 10.1.1 through 10.1.4),    IE9.
    Thanks in advance.

My question is then how is acrobat itslef able to save the same pdf locally at the same destination without any problems. I am assuming it is using the same save api itself.
If acrobat itself can do it, why cant a plugin running inside acrobat X.
And if the plugin cannot achieve the same behavior as acrobat then can we conclude that for a digital signature plugin running inside acrobat X which is running in browser mode to open a PDF:
    - Acrobat X itself and the plugins which run inside it behave differently when saving an online pdf locally. And there is no way for the plugin to achieve the same behavior as acrobat itself in this regard.
    - There is no way (either programmatically or otherwise) for the digital signature plugins, to save online PDFs locally, without either running the browser 'as admin' or adding the website, hosting the online PDF, to Trusted websites list of acrobat X.
    - User of acrobat X plugin has to either run the browser 'as admin' or add the pdf hosting website to Trusted websites list to save the opened PDF locally.
Please confirm if my conclusions are right. And in cases they aren't please explain why. Thanks for you prompt replys.

  • Is Acrobat DC Pro An upgrade to Acrobat XI Pro  or are they separate  products

When you  Go on creative  cloud You are  given the features   of Acrobat DC pro  and  you can toggle between that and Acrobat  XI Pro  The Latter has  a better descriptions of the important feature and  the  some of the similar feature  in DC get little more than  a One  word mention.
I get the impression that the interface is very different  but  all i really want to know will i be loosing functionality  by upgrading   or are all the same features their   just the emphasis  is on the Document cloud  and not on the  feature  print, Prepress, interactivity  and  JS integration  are all very important in my work flow  so the loss of any of these feature would be a major upset.
Hopefully the is some greater  compatibility  to the interactive  elements   available on a desktop pc  and the  mobile  versions

I installed DC and it indeed overwrote XI. This was not acceptable since we have plugins that are not compatible with DC. I had to uninstall it and reinstall XI. I contacted Adobe to ask how to do the install so that I had both. They told me I couldn't and I should use a different computer.
The DC functionality...well, I don't know if it's all there because the interface is extremely simplistic and different. When I say simplistic, it looks like someone started configuring the look of the interface and then decided not to, leaving it as what might be called "stick figure" look...in color, but very stick figure. The interface doesn't seem user friendly. Of course, that could be me having an adverse reaction to the look.
There was no thought by Adobe as to how an overwrite of the existing Acrobat would affect the end user and then to tell me it was impossible to install both and to use another computer to do my work..Not acceptable.
And the concurrent installs...well, I actually was able to install DC next to XI and both seem to be working fine...at least so far.

  • Acrobat XI plugin for Outlook 2013 crashes constantly; has to be re-enabled

I have a user that has Windows 7 (32 bit)  and Oultook 2013 (also 32 bit).  The export to PDF plugin did not work with Acrobat X so we upgraded to Acrobat XI, however this plugin crashes and "disappears" quite often, requiring the user to open the settings and re-enabling the plugin.  This will also occasionally cause Outlook to crash.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this or at least further troubleshoot?

There is a known problem with Acrobat and the Outlook plug-in for PDF export, both with 32-bit and 64-bit Office. Simply stated, as you convert more e-mails, especially HTML-based e-mails laden with images, a memory leak causes Acrobat to run out of memory.
If you are experiencing this particular problem, the “fix” is to monitor (via the Windows Task Manager), a process with a name beginning with HTML2PDFWrap. If its “Memory (Private Working Set) begins to approach 1,500,000 K in size, at any time in which you are not doing a conversion of one or more Outlook messages to PDF, right click on that process in the Windows Task Manager and select “End Process.” The next time you need to convert an Outlook message to PDF, Acrobat will automatically restart that process.
(Note that a bug has been filed with Acrobat Engineering and we are awaiting a fix to the particular issue described above.)

  • Disable Mouse Right click inside Adobe Acrobat PDF plugin

    Hi All,
We are rendering Adobe live cycle pdf file inside html object tag.
I have disabled toolbar , navigation bar using navpanes=0&toolbar=0.
But when mouse right click reenable the context menu again.
So Is there any way to disable mouse righ click inside Adobe Acrobat PDF browser plugin?

I had the same problem after updating Firefox to version 4.0 and Acrobat Reader to Version X. For me (Win XP) what solve the problem was deleting the Acrobat Reader Plugin (nppdf32.dll) in the Firefox plugin folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins). So now there is only one Acrobat Reader Plugin left namely the one in the Acrobat Reader plugin folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\Browser).
