Acrobat X Pro crashed and deleted the file

I am using Acrobat X Pro 10.1.3 in OS X 10.1.1.
I was working on a file. Acrobat crashed without warning and reopened. It did not reopen the file. I looked in the Open a Recent File dialog box and in the Recently Opened menu, and my file was not there. I then looked for the file in the OS X Finder, and it appeared there as a blank file, but then--when I highlighted it--the file icon disappeared. I restarted Acrobat, and THIS time the file appeared in the dialog box and the Recently Opened menu, but when I selected it, I got a File Not Found message.
I also did a search on the entire Mac for my file and it is absolutely gone.
The problem isn't just this file--it's that it could happen to any file I am working on. The only work-around I have for now is to break large files into smaller parts by extracting the pages, so that if I lose a file, the damage is not as bad. But that's ridiculous.
This file had been saved. Repeatedly. Didn't make any difference. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure the size is right, but this is the sort of thing many people see, so don't be concerned.
One cause of much bigger size than expected is that, as well as the programs themselves, there are also the information used to install and update.

  • My MacBook Pro crashed and  need the files on my hard drive, but I only have a Windows PC. How can I get then out?

I got my MacBook Pro in 2004.
Over the years, I have put many files in it.
And now that it crashed, I need help to get then back.
The only problem is that I don't have another Mac, only a pc..
    Please help...

    Hi H,
The first MBP was produced in 2006, so you either don't have a MBP or it's from 2006 or later.
    You have no backup?
    What "crashed?"
If the HD is good, you can put it in an external enclosure and access it with a Mac from there.

It completed the file??? If I text message and E-mail address, my cell phone will come up as and E-mail address... has anyone else had this issue? Is it because I texted the the file? It didn't seem to be and issue on any of the other mobile phones used.... I am out of answers.... I tried to E-mail as well...
    Thanks in advance

I have nearly the same problem, the printer discards my print job even when i have entered my email address as authorised senders.
    Details from my other post:
I sent 2 emails to the printer:
    - one is a 3 lines of text and numbers in a GIF file sent as an attachment
    - another is a jpg circuit diagram paste in a word doc sent as an attachment
both are classified as spam and refused to print. i have no email coming back saying it failed (even i have checked "Email Job Status" in ePrint Settings.
So what will this HP printer print?
How can I switch this useless spam filter off?

  • My hard driver is apparently full - but it is full of "other" files.  I have cleared downloads and removed my music and pictures, but it still thinks it is full - how do I access and delete the files?

I am having real trouble with the mac book air and i dont know what to do.  It thinks it is full, i get warning messages every day, but when i check how the storage is being used it is 45.79 GB of "other" and I can't work out where to locate and delete these files.  I have removed all my music and pictures, there are nearly no documents on the bloody thing, i have cleared the downloads, I have run a cc cleaner programme but nothing seems to touch this "other" amount.  Its so annoying as it is getting to a point where i can't use the computer properly anymore.  Do you have any clue what it could be or how i can deal with it?
It did this last year but not as bad, i never solved it then i just removed all my own files but now "other" is taking that space too.  On a windows computer you would be able to click through and view what was taking up the space but you can't seem to do that on a mac. could it be a virus that makes the hard driver think it is full?
Any ideas what I can do?

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Installed java and deleted the files---NOT ABLE TO INSTALL java AGAIN

    1) I installed jre,jdk1.6 and then without uninstalling i deleted the files.
    2) I now want to install java for creating web application.
But I am not able to install. While installing I get a "file corrupted" message and the installation aborts.
What can I do to install java again?

With the info provided the best advice I can give is reformat your drive and start fresh.
If that doesn't sound palatable, then you could maybe tell us at least what OS you are running and if you really want help the exact version of the OS.
Then you can tell us what you have already tried. Like running the uninstaller now, installing to a defernt directory, etc.
Also have you tried redownloading the JDK? Maybe the file really is corrupted.
And while file is it saying is corrupted.
Like everything else here, you need help, we don't need to help you, and we can't read minds. So if you are willing to put forth a tiny bit more effort to provide as much info as possible, you are more likely to get a meaningful response with a solution.

  • I looked on my C:\ for plugin-container.exe and deleted the file as it kept slowing down my computor, however now when I load firefox it crashes, how can I re-install this plugin to disable it properly?

My computor had been overly slow which was not normal when looking at processes running in task manager I found plugin-container.exe to be using alot of memory. I looked online and found that this was an update of firefox which was not essential, I then looked on my C:\ drive for the application and deleted it hoping this would solve the problem as I could not find it when looking at my firefox plugins. However now when I open firefox it quickly crashes, how can I reinstall this? Do I need to reinstall firefox completely or is there a more simple solution? I have done the firefox plugin check and it can find no problems.

Probably the easiest way is to download Firefox again from http://www.mozilla.com and re-install it.
If you want to disable plugin-container, see the section on "Disabling crash protection" at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins

  • Acrobat quits during saving and then the file and comments are lost

I'm working in acrobat pro x on a 300page pdf.  I am commenting on pages throughout the pdf using stickies.  I try to save the file.  half way through the save process acrobat unexpectedly quits.  when i reopen it says it has recovered the lost file - i click on it and am told that the file cannot be opened and it is lost.  This happend yesterday also so about 4 hours work down the drain!  is there any way around this?  thanks for any suggestions.  If I can't comment safely on the pdf then the wrole reviewing/commenting process becomes unusable...

As you have seen, documents with high page counts and large file sizes can become unstable.  Adding several hundred comments to such a document further contributes to the problem.  It's a great feature that everyone loves, but it's not omnipotent, as you have seen!  To avoid this, I always recommend regular exporting of comments to an .fdf file, and always PRIOR to regular saves.  That way, if your files does crash for some reason, the comments can easily be re-imported.  It's also advisable to have a backup, pre-annotation version of your document, as a matter of course.
Other issues to be aware of are file size, CPU usage and, most importantly, available memory.  These are usually the culprits in situations like the one you described, although they provide no advance warning.  In fact, the warning is usually when the file becomes unstable and behaves exactly as you described.  Although your machine may meet the minimum systems requirements to run Acrobat X, when you get into this type of workflow, there is much more at play than most users initially realize.  I wish there was better information available to warn users in advance about these these situations, but I did address these issues extensively in my book, "The PDF Litigation Guide."
    Hope that helps!

  • How  to   download the file and delete the file

    plz send me reply

    Hi Nagalakshmi,
If you want to download a file on to the presentation server from your application then please have a look at the methods listed under the OO class CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES from transaction SE24 to perform similar operations as requested by you on files on presentation server.
However if u are considering downloading and then deleting a file on the application server, then u would need commands like OPEN DATASET, TRANSFER and CLOSE and eventually DELETE DATASET.
F1 on the commands should help you along.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto crashed and deleted the newest events?

    Hi,
yesterday iPhoto quit unexpectedly and when I reopened it, several events were suddenly empty. I have no idea where the photos and videos are now... Some of them were still in 'Photos' and some still in 'last 12 months' but most of them are gone. I lost all the photos I had imported that day and some of the day before. I hadn't been able to quit iPhoto for a few days. It kept telling me that it was still importing all though no device was connected and that it cannot quit until import is finished. Also every time I activate iPhoto while it is open but in the background, it automatically switches to 'last import'. It has been doing that for a while, probably a couple of months.
I really want those photos back. Please tell me if there is something I can do to recover them. Thank You!
    I am using iPhoto 9.4.3

    Start with:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Re images that are in "Photos" or "Last 12 Months"
If the Photos are under 'Last Import' or 'Last N Months' then they are in the Library somewhere, just not where you are expecting them to be. We know this as both Last Import and 'Last N Months' are not places, just listings of elements in the the Library.
The two most common reasons that they can't be found is either an incorrect date on the camera or the Sorting (View Menu -> Sort Photos - or Sort Events, as appropriate) has changed.
Quick route to find them: Right-click on one of the images in Last Import and select 'Show Event'. This will bring you to the image in the Library.
And as for the switching to 'Last Import':
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Auto Import' Remove anything in it.
Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
    Regards

  • What is making my macbook pro crash and causing the screen to become distorted?

I've posted before and thought my problem was solved.  Thanks to the folks who helped.  I'm still having the problem with certain programs causing my screen to split in two and become distorted.  Sometimes I'm able to force quite and others I'm not.  Just a few days ago, I tried to run iPhoto.  The screen did the crazy distorted thing and the computer crashed.  The screen locked up and I had to hard boot it.  Today, I tried to run iPhoto again.  This time I got the error message from Apple and the computer rebooted.  This was the error message I received:

Can anyone please help me.  Thanks.

Reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.

  • Quicktime crashed and deleted my video file??

I trimmed a clip with quicktime and tried to iMessage it. Quicktime crashed and took the file off my camera. How do i retrieve it?

This happened to me as well. Trimming in Quicktime Player, hit Share to upload to Vimeo and Quicktime Player crashes with a "can't create file" message. After force-quitting, I notice that the ORIGINAL file (that had been captured with Blackmagic Design Media Express) has been DELETED!! This is a major bug. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure out where one of my video files had gone and ended up re-capturing it only to have this happen again.

  • VBScript to read the content of a .csv file and delete old files mentioned in the .csv

    I have a Windows 2003 file server.
I have generated a report in .csv format, about the files which are older than 1 year.
I need a VBScript to read the .csv file and delete the files which are enlisted there.
Can someone please help me with this?

Look into the "Learn" link above.  There are resources and instructions on how to write VBScript code.  Look into how to use the FileSystemObject.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Delete the file from AL11

    hi all,
how to delete file from application server(al11)?
    apart from using EPS_DELETE_FILE
and writing a code  any other go to acheive it
    regards
    venkat

    Hi,
AL11 is a tool to view files that exist on the operating system of the SAP instance (which I think is Rainer's point).
The only way to delete this files is either programatically (with the function module you mention or other ways) or to log onto the operating system directly and delete the file.  In either case you are not deleting them from AL11, you are deleting them from the operating system.
    Regards,
    Nick
