Acrobat X Pro fails to start

Windows XP SP3.
Acrobat X Pro 10.1.4.38 (part of CS6 Design Standard) fails to start.  When double-clicking the desktop shortcut, Acrobat.exe shows very briefly in the Task Manager, then disappears.
There is nothing showing in the Event logs that would indicate any problem with Acrobat.
Any ideas how to diagnose that problem, or suggestions how to proceed?
Thank you in advance!

Went backwards through the forum topics until I found a similar post with this solution http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.html
Now Acrobat X launches correctly.

  • Trial download of Acrobat XI Pro fails

I try to download a trial of Acrobat XI Pro. It starts downloading CS6 - over and over. Then it decides to try Elements 13. Then I decide to accept the CS6 downloads. It is an incomplete download, even though it claims to be "complete." I am using Firefox. What is wrong with Adobe's downloads? Have tried this way too many times. Why should a download be such a problem at Adobe?

  • Acrobat X Pro won't start

Acrobat X Pro (10.1.6) won't start after Windows update on 3/13/13. Running Windows 7. I do not have CS6 and the Acrofix download does not solve the problem. I have reinstalled the software, applied Adobe updates (at least what I could find) and updated all Dell drivers. Does anyone have a fix for this problem?

Thanks Bill. I did try the repair first before I reinstalled the first
time. I’ll give another go and try the cleaner as well.

  • Acrobat XI Pro fails with a fall back error on Win 7 and 8

I have been trying for a month to install acrobat XI pro on both win 7 & 8 machines with no success. They get to within 5 sec of finishing and fail with no error code just a message the something interrupted the installation and it was performing a roll back. I have tried this on a new machine with no adobe products installed as well as a machine I am upgrading from Acrobat x pro to Acrobat XI pro.
I have spent hours on the phone with Adobe with no solution, I have searched the Internet and find many people experiencing the same problem but nowhere is there a solution.
I need the product for business and am about at whit's end.  Can anyone help? Is there a solution?
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I and many other people have successfully installed in Win 7 and Win 8 without issue, so something specific with your system is the cause. Run the Acrobat cleaner to remove anything left over from previous attempts.
Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
Then make sure that all extraneous software is turned off. No virus or spyware protection, nothing running in the background that you don't need to have running. I haven't tried in Windows 8, but in Windows 7:
    click on the start menu
in the Search panel type: msconfig
See if you can install during a Safe boot. If something is necessary for installation that is not available during a Safe boot,
then look Startup Processes and turn off what you can, reboot and try again.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro Fails to install

I am trying to re-install Acrobat 9 Pro onto an iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo machine with 3 GB RAM. The computer is already running without any problem Acrobat 8 Pro but I want to install the new version.  I copy the files across to the Applications folder and then open the application, but it fails soon after launching.  I do not reach the point of getting to enter any information - it simply crashes every time.  I have tried to delete various preference files but to no avail.
A critical point is that the software was running successfully PRIOR to my having to reinstall the system software.  All the other software on the computer still works fine, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and (as I said) Acrobat 8 Pro.  I cannot find what is wrong but a colleague at work suggested I needed to delete all the files related to the previous installation of Acrobat 9 (prior to the system reinstall).  Trouble is it is difficult to identify what all these files are.  I have used the Uninstall application to remove the obvious files and then tried again to install the software to no avail.
I would appreciate some advice on how to solve this.  It is annoying having paid for the new version of the software only to find I cannot install it on the machine.  I am sure there is some left over file that was corrupted when my system software crashed and needed reinstallation, but I cannot identify what it (or they) is (are).
I have already spent probably close to 6 hours on this and it is driving me nuts.  HELP.
    Thanks,

Sorry - very slopy of me in the original post.  I am running 10.5.8.  The problems started when I had to downgrade from 10.6.  I was getting critical kernal panics 4-5 times a day (black screen of death) since installing 10.6 and I could not continue.  Numerous applications would simply crash for no reason.  Thje operating I had to reinstall was 10.5 and then I ran the updates to bring it uip to 10.5.8.
I have run all of the patches:  910, 911. 912 and 913 on the application and it still will not install.
I am installing a volume license version - you drag the entire folder across to the applications and the first time you launch the application it then runs the installation routine.  Mine is crashing soon after it starts.

  • Acrobat X Pro will not start Creative Suite 6

Hi, I installed Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard on a laptop with Win7 64bit and it worked. After 4 weeks now, all programs are working (Photoshop® CS6, Illustrator® CS6, ...) except Acrobat® X Pro.
The first 4 weeks it worked also, but 4 weeks after I installed the software, it opens only for a few seconds and is getting closed then. What is happening after these 4 weeks? What can I do to start Acrobat X Pro?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Update 9.0.2 to Acrobat 9 Pro fails to install

Am trying to update Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, and the update fails to install

Normally you would do the updates from the Help>Updates menu from within Acrobat. Sometimes the server has issue or other problems come up and the updates do not work for some reason. The current level of AA 9 is 9.5.5. To do the updates manually, go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows (similar for MAC, but you did not state the OS), download from the latest to the earliest. The reason for this order is to note with each update the previous update that is needed. Then install the updates in order. You only have to reboot after the last update.

  • Combine supported files in Acrobat 10 Pro fails for password protected files

I use Acrobat 10 Pro and wanted to combine a number of pdf-files to one big file.
It failed because the files in question have a permission password.
After I bought Acrobat on first creation of a pdf-file I was asked set a password
    for reading and/or modifying it.
I decided to set no password for reading, but one for modification namely
    <christian-name>.<surname> . I noted this down.
When I got the error indication after I tried to combine some pdf-files I tried
to remove the permission password. I was asked my password, but the program
    refuses to take it.
What can i do, except to scan all the invoved pdf-documents once again, this time
without any password. It's quite a lot of them.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi thandman,
Acrobat 8 is not certified for Win 7 64 bit, so this may just be the first issue you will encounter.
    Hope this helps,

  • Acrobat 9 Pro fails to launch

We had to reinstall Adobe CS4 on a workstation. Acrobat 9 pro was installed as part of this. Acrobat 9 worked for a couple of days and now it fails to launch.
We attempted to fix the install, that did not work.
We attempted to reinstall and received 2 separate messages.
    1-Acrobat is running
    2-Speed Launcher is running.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

To download Acrobat 9 Professional :
Go to the web page : http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=acrobat_pro&loc=en
Login with your Adobe ID and Password. Now instead of clicking on the download button copy and paste the following link on the address bar and hit enter :http://trials2.adobe.com/Applications/Acrobat/APRO/9/trials/AcroPro90_ efg.exe
This is the direct download link for Acrobat 9.
Note : This link would only work from the downloads page of Acrobat 10 or downloads page of Contribute 6.5

  • Installation Acrobat XI Pro fails - solved

    Hello.
Just to let you know: Installing Acrobat XI Pro from Creative Cloud failed on Windows 7. Other programs like Photoshop installed fine, though.
Checking the previously installed programs there was "Adobe PDF creation Add-On XI" which came with a test version of FrameMaker 12. After uninstalling the Add-On, Acrobat XI could be installed.

    Hi Guido ,
    That sounds perfect.
    Stay well .

  • Acrobat X Pro will not start

Installed Acrobat X Pro from CS6 DVD onto Win7 computer. All other programs run fine but Acrobat will not start. Clicking on the Desktop Shortcut or in the Start Menu, nothing happens. PDF files will not open. Had Adobe Reader on the computer when I installed CS6 and that opened PDF files instead of Acrobat X Pro. I uninstalled Reader in hopes Acrobat would start, but it doesn't. Just installed the latest updates and still nothing. Tried Repair in the Uninstall program but still doesn't start. Do I need to Uninstall Acrobat X Pro and reinstall from the DVD?

Have you checked your task bar for any "invisible" windows producing any buttons there? This strikes me as a case of the license agreement being drawn invisibly/ off screen and since you never confirm itr, Acro won't start. Perhaps resetting your graphics config might help, in case you e.g. had a 2 monito setup, but removed one of the monitors. Otehr than that this could be anything from UAC to security tools blocking stuff.... We realyl cannot know and a reinstall likely won't fix that particular issue, either.

  • MacBook Pro Failed to Start Up

    Hi all, some advice required.
Last night my 2006 MacBook Pro did not start up. It hung on the grey apple logo then went to a black screen and kept trying to start. A message gradually counted down from 10 attempts to one and then the start process stopped to a simple cursor. There was some message about "throttling too quickly".
Following advice from a friend I reset the P-RAM and although the next start got beyond the grey apple logo, it hung on a blue screen. I then reset the SMC and the computer started just fine. It now appears ok.
    Some History:
I used to have boot camp running Windows XP. When I started to run short of hard drive space I removed this. Ever since then, on start-up a brief question mark "?" appears instead of the apple logo. It is only for a moment. I read that this means something can be wrong with the start up process? Also when I install the firmware updates periodically from apple when the computer is required to be restarted it "hangs" on the grey apple logo and has to be shut down and restarted a second time in order to boot up properly. Two weeks ago my optical drive failed. It makes no sound on start up and will not accept a disk. When you go to "About this Mac" the computer says it has no optical drive installed. Could this problem be related?
Is my MacBook Pro on the way out? It will be four years old in January and has been used pretty heavily since I got it. I wanted to upgrade the RAM and install Leopard rather then spend all the money on a new one. Is this a waste if it's about to die?
That's a lot of info I know, many thanks in advace for your advice.
    David

Boot into your Recovery partition (if you can) by holding down the command and R keys whilst booting. Once there elect to resinatll the OS (you may need your Apple ID and password for this). You'll not erase any data, etc., by installing a fresh OS.
Once your OS install is complete, you can restart and go through the update process again, this time remembering not to unplug from mains while the updates are installing.

  • Acrobat XI Pro won't start

I have Acrobat XI Pro installed on my Win 7 Professional system. Every so often (more often than once a month), when I click on a PDF file, nothing happens. When I look in Task Manager, there's an instance of acrobat.exe listed. Often I'm not sure if I really clicked on the file when nothing happens, so I'll click again. In that case, I'll get multiple lines of acrobat.exe in Task Manager.
The only way around the problem that I've found is to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat, which is a huge nuisance.
I upgraded from Acrobat X Pro because I had the same problem with that version. I tried several "solutions" that I found online for what sounded like my problem, without any success. I was hopeful that upgrading from Acrobat X to XI would solve the problem, but it hasn't.
I have CS6 installed on my system, but I uninstalled Acrobat from the Suite when I installed Acrobat XI.
How can I fix this problem once for all? Thanks!

I clicked on the Adobe Acrobat XI Pro entry in the Control Panel Programs and Features list, and it gave me a message box asking if I wanted to uninstall the program. I was hoping that it would give me a repair choice, but it didn't; it just proceeded to uninstall the program.
So I then reinstalled the program, which is listed in the Control Panel as Version 11.0.0. I will try to update it to 11.0.03 now.
Already, once, in testing that the new installation worked, it crashed and asked whether to close or debug, which makes me wonder how solid the installation is.
However, at this point, it's working so I can't test any fix to the problem till it occurs again. I just wish I could do something that would solve it once and for all.
