Acrobat X Pro hangs

Hello,
I am trying to use Acrobat X Pro (10.1.4) on an Apple MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion (10.8).  When I launch Acrobat and select "Combine Files into PDF", I am shown the add file screen.  When I click the "Add Files" button, I am offered to select a file from my Documents folder. If I try to change the source directory, that is, navigate to a subdirectory of Documents, Acrobat hangs and I have to force it to quit.
Sometimes, instead of showing me my Documents directory, Acrobat hangs when I click on "Add Files."
I have Java SE 6 installed and the preference set to use the 64-bit version.
What troubleshooting steps can you suggest?
Cheers,
Sean

Message was edited by: tseanschulze  In the meantime I've discovered that I don't have to do anything with Acrobat. After about thirty seconds it will hang all on its own.  I checked it with top, and Acrobat while it is hung it is using 99 to 100% CPU.

Hi,
I am using Mountain Lion but i am not seeing any such Acrobat hang issue.
Do you get a crash dialog on force quitting Acrobat? Please share the crash log here.
thanks,

As a debugging step, try printing to the Adobe PDF printer. If that fails, repeat with print-to-file selected. Assuming the print succeeds, open the file in Distiller to complete the creation of the PDF. If you get the PDF, then check to see if AcroTray is properly working as a background task.

  • Mac Acrobat X Pro hangs after InDesign CS6 form export but opens in Preview

    Anyone else having this issue?

I guess no one can understand this... I just had the worst tech support "chat" form Adobe I have ever had... theu guy started steering me to make an EPS file to distill. That won't help for interactive. I can export to PRINT PDFs. I can export to INTERACTIVE PDFs. Today, for the first time I had to make a form in InDesign CS6 using the new form tools. I can export the file but Acrobat X Pro hangs trying to open it. I just mentioned Preview to say that I CAN open the file in Preview. I'm just trying to eliminate things. I KNOW Preview is not the right tool...

  • Acrobat 9 Pro hangs when moving or resizing stamps

I've had this issue on two different machines running Windows 32 and 64 bit OS.
Document opens fine and you can scroll around and perform operations. Until you put a stamp on it. Everything slows way down but doesn't quite stop. You can't resize or move the stamp although the cursor will eventually show the move or resize symbols because the entire program goes into a semi-freeze. You can't even close the window without waiting several minutes to regain "focus".
If you shut it down and re-open all is normal...until you highlight or focus on the stamp, then the whole freeze or slowdown begins again,
Anyone ever seen this? I can't find anything on it anywhere.

    Hi buybeach,
Please update Acrobat to v9.5.5 and check. Was it working fine for you before?
You might also want to repair Acrobat and check.

  • Acrobat X Pro v 10.1.10 (Mac OS 10.9.3) hangs when trying to save PDF files

Acrobat X Pro v 10.1.10 (Mac OS 10.9.3) hangs when trying to save some PDF files, after opening or after commenting.  Applies for any of the Save options.  "Watch" then "spinning beach ball" appear and application is indicated as "not responding."  Mac OS Preview has no problem with the same files.  Files can be displayed with Acrobat, just not saved.  I would prefer to use Acrobat's commenting tools to mark up the document.

"Mac Office 2008"? You must mean Microsoft Office 2008. Try posting in the Microsoft forums here:

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended hangs for about 12 seconds ... please help!

    Hi there,
I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and have the following problem:
I can open PDF documents just fine. But after about 3-4 seconds the program hangs / freezes for about 12 seconds. I've tried everything (defined a non-network printer as default printer, deactivated unecessary fonts with a font manager, deactivated most of the plugins from Adobe Acrobat etc.)... nothing helps to solve this issue.
Can anybody give me a hint or have a solution for this ???
    Thanks for your help!

I do have the same problem but I'm OSX 10.6.8

    scphan,
thanks a lot for your reply! It is helpful! (although not "solved" - alas).
The thing still doesn't work: maybe I missed some magic trick?
If you bear with me, here is what I did:
    a) downloaded jdk-6u10-docs.zip
(from "Java SE Development Kit Documentation 6"
    -->
    https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewFilteredProducts-SingleVariationTypeFilter)
    -- it was unzipped automatically by my Safari downloader, creating the "docs" directory);
    b) then I pointed the Netnbeans to this dir (it says "Add ZIP/Folder", so to my understanding the "dir" should work, only faster), --
-- still "Show Javadoc" results in "Cannot perform"... (:-.
    Anything I did terribly wrong?
Note that I stared at the http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp for a while before finding the "documentation" link.
Noticeable also that the page starts with "What Java Do I Need?" but doesn't answer that question.
Why does Sun make it so freaking hard for the beginners?..
Does it make sence to ship something without documentation?..
Why doesn't Apple distribution include it for 1.6 although it does for 1.5 and 1.4?..
Why do creators of Java not care that Java actually works out of the box, -- including (and that I think makes my question a Java question) in one of the two most popular Java IDEs?
(The last few sentences are mostly for flounder).

  • When I start up Acrobat X Pro, it hangs

I am running Windows7, with Adobe Design STD ESSD, which includes Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
It works fine for printing to PDF. But when I try to start up the application itself (from onscreen icon or from the menu), it hangs. I never see the application window. Subsequent attempts to print to PDF will complain that it needs to be activated. Logging out and logging in clears the issue for printing to PDF, until I try to start the application again.
I really need access to this application. I don't want to uninstall/reinstall all of Design STD. Any clues or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
        Bob

If you are on Windows, you might try Control Panel>Programs & Features and do a Repair. If the repair works, then do the updates to be sure you are current.

  • Problem with Acrobat 8 Pro on a WIN 7 64bit system

  • Acrobat XI Pro converting webpage to pdf not accurate

I am having issues (along with several other users in my company) with converting a webpage to pdf using IE11.  The page converts with no issues, however the alignment of the text is incorrect.  The paragraphs have a hanging indent on all lines except the first.  It looks like there are one to two spaces added to the beginning of the lines.  This happens on every webpage I convert. I need to be able to convert webpages accurately.  This did not happen with Acrobat X Pro.  I have tried disabling all add-ins in IE except Adobe with no luck.  I tried looking for settings within Acrobat, I could not find anything.  How do I get webpages to convert correctly/accurately?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    My computer specs:
    Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
    Acrobat XI Pro v11.0.09
    Internet Explorer v11.0.9600.17420CO

Fundamentally what lands in the PDF is determined by what the HTML, the associated style sheet(s) & any scripting provides. When or if there are inadequacies Acrobat uses heuristics provided by the programmer(s) (which may well be simply what the programmer feels is ok).
Typically the fix is in the web page.

  • Acrobat X Pro v10.1.9: Cannot print to Adobe PDF Printer (access is denied)

    Hello.
Suddenly I was not able to print Office 2013 files / Autocad files / Internet Explorer pages directly to Adobe PDF Printer anymore on my WINDOWS 7 Ultimate x64 sp1 computer.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat X Pro, but the issue was not resolved.
Neither after updating to the latest version (10.1.9).
When I try to print from any software (Office 2013 / AutoCAD 2012 / Others), are displayed two windows:
    a) the first one named "Printing (not responding)", with the information: "now printing the file..."
    b) the second one named "Save PDF File As", to where I do not have access to the filename fied to insert it neither to click the "cancel" button to abort the print dialog. It seems that this window is not active.
I have to click on the red "X" button on the first window to shutdown the application. Here is the error dialog I got:

When I try to print a webpage in Internet Explorer using the same printer, I get an "Adobe PDF" window stating "Access is denied".
Can anyone help me restoring this feature?

The reinstall is typically the last ditch effort to do. The first step is Help>Repair and Help>Updates. As far as Office 2013, the PDF Maker of AA X is not compatible and you can only print. In your list of errors it showed a problem with AcroTray.exe. As a first step, go to the print and select print-to-file. The file will be a PS file (maybe with a PRN extension). Once the printer if finished, open the file in Distiller to complete the process. If that is successful, then the problem is with AcroTray. Check your running tasks to be sure AcroTray is indeed running. If not, that is likely the problem. If it is, then restart it (it is located in the Acrobat folder). AcroTray provides the interface between the PS creation and Distiller to automate the process of creating the PDF.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro, v9.5.5 Slow to Load

my issue is acrobat 9 pro, v9.9.9 is slow to load (take 45 to over 100 seconds to either load from Start menu of file manager
      - Window 7 Home Premium, sp1, 64 bit
      - acrobat has been installed for years, this started with 9.5.4 and is the same under 9.5.5
      - have not loaded any new software
      - event viewer does not show any "errors" happening as I open Acrobat
      - when I try to close Acrobat it shows that Acrobat has stopped responding so something is "hanging up" but no indication what that might be
I would appreciate thoughts on what to try or look at next -

check your running processes and terminate them in an organized way to determine which process is causing the problem.

  • Can't install Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows XP Home Ed V2002 SP3

Newbie hozer can't install Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows XP Home Ed V2002 SP4.  At end of install via CD it hangs restarting Print Spooler (spooler) and Windows Image Acquisition (stisvc) services, err 1920, and all I can do is click Cancel and it uninstalls the whole dad gum thing.  I tried kb.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403613.html.  Not fixing it.
If I could change the permissions on those services maybe that would help but I can't do it, I don't have a login with enough permissions, I guess...
So after the third time I just hard-crashed the hard drive when it got to the last ("can't start Windows Image Acquisition", cancel/retry) window and I did end up with the files on the HDD but... they won't install or delete now.  I'm infested.  Try to install in Normal or Vega mode, it now pops up a filled in userid/serial number box, and when you click ok or retype it, it says the s/n is invalid.  I keep having to reboot to get Windows Installer to let me start it (another permissions problem).  So I'm stuck. UpToDateTrendMicro doesn't find any evil doers...  the kb403613 sent me to this forum,

Not sure it will help, but try it when logged in as the administrator and with anti-virus turned off. As far as error numbers, must of us have no clue (there seems to be a list at Adobe, but we don't work there.

  • Possible solution if you can't install Acrobat 9 Pro via CS4 Installer

(Thanks to Paul_Belza for this idea.)
    Symptoms:
Acrobat 9 is grayed out in the Setup window of Creative Suite 4 installer.
Opening the carat reveals an incorrect explanation of: "Acrobat 9 is already installed."
You have more than one hard drive attached with an OS X install that has had prior Acrobat installs on it.
    Possible Solution:
Unmount all drives except your current startup drive and try again.
    Discussion:
Apparently, the Acrobat prior install scanner is not very picky about where it finds a prior install. It searchs any and all drives rather than just the current startup drive and/or the currently chosen install drive. In my case, I had a clone of my start drive so I could start the arduos process of making a manual deployment setup.
Since I was previously involved in the CS4 beta, I wasn't too phased when I initially encountered issues on this machine, but much less pleased when I ran all the official uninstallers, cleaners etc and it still claimed Acrobat 9 was installed. Eventually stumbled on Paul Belza's note that the scanner is indiscriminate, unmounted my additional backup drive and all was immediately well.
(Note: During the process, I also came across the fact that with a volume license Acrobat 9 Pro can be installed simply by mounting the extensions/Acrobat9_es.dmg (whatever it is called exactly) and dragging the folder into your Applications folder. As long as you have previously installed a CS4 app (so it doesn't hang at the serial number screen), it will self-repair and be ready for use.

Not sure it will help, but try it when logged in as the administrator and with anti-virus turned off. As far as error numbers, must of us have no clue (there seems to be a list at Adobe, but we don't work there.

  • Hp convert to pdf license interferes with adobe acrobat x pro

Windows 7, Office 2010 with the HP Convert to PDF plugin.  Installed Adobe CS5.5 Jan 7, 2012, on this computer.  Everything worked fine.  Sometime later (last summer?) my CS5.5 Acrobat X Pro failed, symptom is that it hangs in a loop asking me to accept terms and conditions.  In Word, if click on addins, I find HP convert to PDF and also that its license has expired.  I think this is the reason that my CS5.5 Acrobat X Pro no longer works.  Can you pls tell me if you agree and how the heck I get my Adobe license back?

I renamed my PDF Complete folder so Word couldn't find it and now I can make pdfs in Word.  But I still have the endless demand to accept terms and conditions if I try to open Acrobat X Pro to  make a pdf.  Bizarre.
