Acrobat X Pro to XI Standard Upgrade Path

Is there a way to upgrade my Adobe Acrobat X Pro to Adobe Acrobat XI Standard? I find I really don't need the features of the Pro version and would like to save money upgrading to XI.

I think this type of upgrade (down to Std) can be done. To be sure you should contact Adobe. It would be sad to assume it is true and then find out you can't install it.

  • Standard Upgrade Path from VMWare Server?

I've been using VMWare Server for years to test my software. Specifically I have 2 "beige box" PCs running CentOS running VMWare Server running various versions of Windows Server as domain controllers and file servers as well as numerous workstations. I have a complete mini multi-domain Windows network. When I run the tests for my software it really pushes the 2-3 vms involved with a lot of network communication and some disk activity.
With care and some brute force this has worked well. At least I don't need a stack of PCs. And it's free so it's hard to complain. But unfortunately it's not terribly reliable. The web interface stops working - sometimes only after a day. Clocks drift causing authentication issues. Generally bad things happen if I try to run more than 2 images on the same server. I've gotten to be pretty good at combating these problems but I'm hoping to find something a little more reliable.
So now I'm willing to actually pay for something (gah!) and I would like to upgrade. But VMWare has so many products I just have no idea what I should be looking for.
What is the standard upgrade path from VMWare Server?
    Mike

Ok. Two people say use ESXi so I guess I'll just try to burn an ESXi DVD and see what it's like. But ...
Is performance really good enough to compile large projects and do backups over and so on?
VMware Server has worked well enough for me over the years but performance was not like real hardware. But the real problem was reliability. If I ran more than 2 VMs at a time, eventually they would just get their tentacles in a tangle and I would have to kill them and delete lock files and bah! I'm going to assume by your endorsement that ESXi doesn't have any of these problems.
Also, the machine I'm using is a lowly DELL i660 i3-3240 with 8GB of memory. I paid $429 USD for it at a local consumer electronics store! This is no server. Will it even work?

  • Acrobat XI Pro overwrote XI Standard now installer can't find product

I just downloaded the Pro Upgrade and the defaults were chosen. I'm not sure what I missed, but now the Pro installer is saying that there isn't a valid product installed (DUH, you overwrote it). I'm a little surprised this happened but after other Adobe SNAFU not totally. Is there truly not a customer service number any more to help resolve this?

@Goel: Windows 8.1, from the Adobe Website. I don't have the screen shot but basically it said the serial number was good but that it, the installer, couldn't find an qualifying product installed and needed the serial number for the qualifying product. I understand the question, what I don't understand is why it would work this way and not warn you that it was going to eliminate all traces of the qualifying product before it checked to see if the qualifying product was installed.
@TSN-MVP++++: Well of course you need the qualifying product for the upgrade. This installer, unlike every other installer ever written anywhere by anyone on the planet, uninstalls the qualifying product then checks to see if the qualifying product exists. Here's a suggestion, if you are providing an upgrade check for the qualifying product before modifying the system.

  • Can't install upgrade from Acrobat XI Standard to Acrobat XI Pro

I have Acrobat XI Standard installed on a new Dell Windows 7 PC. I just purchased an upgrade to Acobat XI Pro. I paid $199 and successfully downloaded the installation file from www.adobe.com.
When I try to install the package, the installation proceeds through a few standard screens (e.g., the Welcome screen), and then I receive a setup error:
"Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed. Setup will now terminate."
Clearly, Acrobat XI Standard is not a more functional product than Acrobat XI Pro. How do I get around this error so that I can install the upgrade?

    Hey habilock,
The reason why you are getting this error is that you are attempting to install Acrobat XI pro over XI standard, but you cannot install the same version of Pro over Standard.
If they are different versions (like Acrobat Pro XI over Acrobat X), then it would work.
You can also check the following link that clearly specifies that there is no such upgrade option of Acrobat XI over Standard:
Buying guide | Adobe Acrobat XI Pro
For more details on the same, you can refer another forum link discussing the same issue:
setup has detected you already have a more functional product installed....
    Hope that helps.

  • Error 1311 When Upgrading Acrobat X Pro

I have Acrobat X Pro and have tried upgrading but keep receiving the Error 1311.  How do I fix this issue since I am upgrading and not doing a clean new install?
    Steve

There are various aspects reported online for this error. One suggests a system file problem for Windows (http://www.wiki-errors.com/err.php?wiki=1311 - I am not necessarily recommending this as the issue, but it is one report.) Another option is given by Adobe at http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/install-error-1311-1335-or.html. Howver, there is an implied error message given here in terms of a source file not found. All you have indicated is the error number and no message. If there was a message, please post that also. Microsoft posts are generally related to not being able to find a source file also.

  • Printer fails during printing of PDF from Acrobat 9 Pro

I have just upgraded to Acrobat 9 Pro from 7 standard. If I print an older pdf file or new pdf (created with 9) from the same PC I just upgraded the print job will fail. The printer will issue a page about a font and stop. Keep in mind the older PDF files printed fine with 7. The printer is new and there are no new drivers. I have another PC with 8 Pro and I can print any of the PDF without a problem. Adobe Tech support said I have two choices, re-install my old version or update the driver for the printer!

    What OS? What Printer?

  • Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro - silent install not completely silent

    Hello,
I am trying to create an installer for Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro. I have used the customization wizard to create a transform file for the install and specified it to be silent. However, it appears that windows are still opening in the background when the installer runs, which causes our automated installer service to close out of the install thinking the installer is "broken."
Is there an easy way to make the installer completely, 100% silent?
    The command is currently:
    if exist [file generated to determine if a prior uninstall was sucessful] (msiexec /i "[PATH]Adobe Acrobat Pro\Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro\AcroPro.msi" /qn CLIENTUILEVEL=0 TRANSFORMS=[PATH]\Adobe Acrobat Pro\Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro\AcroPro.mst" /l*v "[PATH]\adobe.log")
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Drew
EDIT: The windows opening look like they are deleting some dll files. If anyone knows a workaround, that's be great.

Answered this in your other post.  Please only post once per issue. Here is the response I put in that thread:
"If you are installing on a machine that Acrobat 10 previously  then this is likely deleting the old Adobe PDF Printer files if anything instead of the Setup files.  I don't believe there is a way to change this behavior."

  • Acrobat XI Pro for Mac saved file not seen in a AFP NAS

After I save a document through Acrobat XI Pro to NAS in Mac OS 10.8, I can't see the document in that directory by Finder through AFP-protocol , however I can see it through SAMBA-protocol. This never happened before, only after I saved the file through the newly installed Acrobat 11 Pro.

I was suddenly having the same problem in Acrobat XI Pro for Windows (recently upgraded to CC from Acrobat X).  For the past while I've sometimes had to use the "insert from file" tool to get a page added from another file.  I couldn't figure out why dragging sometimes would no longer work, but was too busy to go looking for a solution until tonight.
The solution was given by JoshTatum24 above. Switch from a scrolling page display to single page display.  Now I can drag pages between documents again.  THANK YOU Josh!
Oh, and CORREAdmin,  it does not matter whether the hand or arrow selection tool is active, my mouse pointer is always an arrow when positioned in the page thumbnails panel.  Switching selection tools does not make a difference in dragging, but switching between scrolling and single page display definitely DOES make the difference.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI Pro - Silent installer

    Hello,
I am trying to create an installer for Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro. I have used the customization wizard to create a transform file for the install and specified it to be silent. However, it appears that windows are still opening in the background when the installer runs, which causes my department's automated installer service to close out of the install thinking the installer is "broken."
The windows appear to be "Moving ____ to recycle bin" messages, meaning the Acrobat MSI is moving the setup files rather than deleting them completely.
Is there a way to change this behavior in order to make the installer delete the files instead of moving them?
    The command is currently:
    if exist [file generated to determine if a prior uninstall was sucessful] (msiexec /i "[PATH]Adobe Acrobat Pro\Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro\AcroPro.msi" /qn CLIENTUILEVEL=0 TRANSFORMS=[PATH]\Adobe Acrobat Pro\Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro\AcroPro.mst" /l*v "[PATH]\adobe.log")
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Drew

    Hi Drew,
Please navigate to the location in Command prompt where you have Acropro.msi. Then run this command.
    msiexec /i "AcroPro.msi" TRANSFORMS="AcroPro.mst" /qn
Please ensure to launch Command prompt as an Admin.
Please let us know if it helps.

  • Keeping Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro as the Default .PDF viewer

    Ok,
So with all the new vulnerabilities with Adobe reader, our company is try to stay with the current updates of Adobe Reader.  The problem I am running into with patching all the workstations is that we have a large user community that uses Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro as their default .pdf viewer etc. When patching all workstations with the latest Adobe Reader it changes the default to Reader.
Has anyone had this issues? Or is there away to keep Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro the default when upgrading the Reader?
I'm thinking of removing Reader all together on the workstations that have Pro.
    Thanks

That is the Adobe recommended and supported setup.
Too many problems arise when you have those two Adobe products on the same machine.

  • Acrobat XI Pro for OSX can't open password-protected pdfs created using Acrobat 9 Pro for Windows

I am having problems opening password-protected files created on a PC using Acrobat 9 Pro.  I am running a MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.4 with Acrobat XI Pro.  When I attempt to enter the password when prompted, a dialogue box pops up saying that I've entered the incorrect password.  After many attempts, I am certain that the password entered is correct -- this is reinforced by the fact that i am able to open the same document using Mac's Preview software.
    Any assistance would be appreciated!
