Acrobat X- resize 'Fields' sidebar?

I rarely use Acrobat X, but I am forced to occasionally as I find a form that won't let me edit the field tab order in 8. I cannot find any way to resize the sidebar to view the field's full name when I am setting the tab order. Is it me, or is there no way to resize this panel?
I am guessing that I know the answer to this, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

It's not you.
I've requested before that they allow the field panel to be floating and resizable, but they didn't go for it, saying that floating panels will not be allowed. They do allow exceptions to this prohibition, such as Acrobat 11's new floating comments panel, so I'm hoping they will reconsider for Acrobat 12. I don't think it will happen unless enough people submit feature requests for this. I think I'll start drafting one to post in the Acrobat feature request forum here so those who agree can pile on.
BTW, setting a manual tab order is much improved in Acrobat 11. You can turn off the blasted automatic reordering "feauture" and select & drag multiple fields simultaneously in the list.

  • Finder Column Resize Field is missing - whitespace instead

    Hi,
I noticed that the little column resize field on the vertical dividers in Finder (the one with the two vertical lines on it) has gone missing. There's now a whitespace instead, which I can still use to resize the column. So the problem is more of a cosmetic nature, yet those dangling scrollbars look a bit irritating.
    here's a screenshot of it: www.sfu.ca/~msteger/scr1.png
Somewhat related, the gradient in Safari's title bar is not continuous but has a sudden step just above the bookmarks. www.sfu.ca/~msteger/scr2.png
I don't recall any particular event after which this issue came up. I recently installed the 10.6.2 Combo Update but that didn't make any difference.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Hmm... There are some simple troubleshooting steps you can take.
Be sure you drive is not overly full. Rule of thumb would be over 85%.
Create a new User go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair this with the The 10.6.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

  • Resizable Fields on Tabular Form ?

    Hi,
I have a requirement which needs a form to have resizable fields i.e. allow a user to drag and drop or resize the field width with a mouse. Is it possible ? ; and if so, can anyone please explain as to how it could be done.
I was searching the forum and understood that this could be done but could not quite understand HOW !!!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Hilal.

In Client Server you can use the mouse triggers to do this. Check out the forms 6i demos for the drag and drop sample.
On the Web you might be able to do it with a PJC.

  • Editing design elements in acrobat without losing field demarcation

I've created a form and as opposed to having acrobat pro 9.0 detect the fields, I've demarcated them myself using the "add text field" function. The form works great but when I open the file in indesign and resave as a pdf, I lose all the fields added.
Is there anything I can do to avoid having to go back each time and add text field to each form element everytime I have to edit the file in InDesign?
    Thanks, Peter

  • How Can I Make Acrobat Not Resize Images?

I am trying to turn around 80 images into the pages of a PDF file. The pictures are saved as JPEGs and have the exact dimensions I want them to have as pages of a PDF. When I turn them into a PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 they get resized so when viewed at 100% the text looks like crap. I want to know how I can make Acrobat not mess with the dimensions of my pictures when turning them into a PDF. I make the PDF by clicking the Create button and selecting Merge Files into a Single PDF... . I then drag and drop the pictures into the window and click Combine Files. I have tried all three of the File Size settings and all of them turn out wrong. How can I make this expensive program work the way I want it to by doing htis simple thing right?
I have attached two files, the first of one of the images that will make a page viewed in windows picture and fax viewer at the original size. The second is a screen shot of the messed up PDF with blurry text, viewed at 100%. I want the text in the second picture to look just like the text in the first.

I am not trying to justify Adobe's choice, just an explanation of what may have happened. When one asks for 100%, there is a question of by pixel, by inches (cm), or by size on the screen. These are interpretations and the fact that MS and Adobe interpret them differently is not surprising. However, I think that what you are seeing is a result of the pixel display issues on the screen and with proper sizing, they should appear the same (at least I think). In Acrobat, there is also a smoothing feature under the display preferences that may be an issue and is related to how it extrapolates for the pixels.

  • Acrobat 9 Standard: Field fonts and size

In several fields on a form, data that is entered is not going to the top of the field. There is a significant gap between text and top of field which is wasting space that i need for the multi-line field.
Not sure if it matters ( I am new to Acrobat) but this initial form I did create in Excel and then converted to pdf with Acrobat.

    MadAl712,
I finally gave up on it.  That gap between top of field and the first line of text within that field could allow for another line of text.  Lori Kassuba posted a solution that by allowing Rich Text Formatting, the user could format the text as they enter data in such a way that eliminated the gap.  I did not implement this as a solution since I could not see expecting users to go through the motion.
She did mention Acrobat Pro, InDesign, and Designer might help with this. All I have is Acrobat Standard. I would be curious as to how well you like InDesign and how you are using it. I am considering another application (InDesign might be the one) for more design capacities for forms, presentations, and web pages.  So if you get a chance... thanks.

  • Acrobat Flattening Form Fields and Optimizing for Web

I'm trying to optimize a PDF for the web and flatten all the form fields. I also want to remove the purple dialogue box at the top when optimizing on the web. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've toiled around with it for some time and can't seem to figure it out. In the older version, I would simply save it as a file optimized for the web, which would then flatten all the form fields and remove the purple box at the top. Any help would be appreciated.

Your question really belongs in one of the Acrobat forums. I flatten form fields (use the pre-flight tool) and then save for the web.

  • Acrobat Form Fill Fields - Can you specify a font?

I am using the new feature of InDesign CS6 that allows creation of form fields for PDFs. After exporting the page to PDF via the interactive setup dialog [command+E 'Adobe PDF (interactive)] I'll inspect the finished PDF in Acrobat 9. Everything looks as it should, except that when I type in some sample text in a text field, it uses Times Roman as the font. I would like it to use Arial regular.
I can't find any way to specify a font for these form fields in InDesign CS6. This particular project involves quite a large number of files - so I'd rather avoid a process that requires me to go in to Acrobat and 'tweak' each PDF, changing the font in the properties dialog of each field to the Arial.
Is there a way to set the font of a form field directly in InDesign? I've looked around and can't find a menu or dialog that addresses this.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You can edit the typeface used in your text fields in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Create your form with all the appropriate text fields you would like in InDesign CS6 then:
export your form from InDesign CS6 as an interactive PDF
open your file in Adobe Acrobat Pro
Click "TOOLS" on the right hand side (next to sign and comment)
    Click "INTERACTIVE OBJECTS"
    Click "SELECT OBJECT"
Then select all or any text fields you would like to changeif selected the text field should appear blue, not red, as well as displaying the description (if you assigned one while creating your form in InDesign)
Once selected RIGHT CICK (if using a MAC or mouse without a right click button press crtl + click your mouse)
a pop-up should appear and the at the top of the list you will see PROPERTIES
click properties and go to APPEARANCE
under the TEXT section you will see options to alter your text fields designated typeface, color and size
NOTE: I believe if the user filling out the form does not have the typeface you assigned to the text field(s) it will default to New Times Roman

I am using Acrobat 9 and I want to createa fillable PDF that upon the user’s choice for the first field, autofills the 2nd and 3rd field basing on the content of an XLS file.

I would like to create a fillable PDF where the user choose the machine from a drop down menu that shows the machines listed on the first column of list.xls, and upon the user's choice it populate automaticaly the fields "serial no." and "last check" with the data from the other two columns of list.xls.
I have never used JavaScript before,so please keep it simple.
Your help is very much appreciated,
    Paola

If you want to fill the LiveCycle Designer form, then you need to render it with the datafile.
The datafile can be an XML file or a webservice or Database.
You cannot directly fill the PDF from a PHP script. What you can do is, have a LiveCycle Process created in Workbench and then invoke the Process from PHP application by passing the information. The Livecycle process will merge the data with the template and return the PDF to the client application.
There is an other feature in Acrobat PRO that you can import an XML file directly into a PDF but that is a manual effort. You can not link that to a PHP Script.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Acrobat - rename form field

I'm a newbie to Automator but it seems like this should work. I need to automate the renaming of lots and lots of fields in a form. I started a workflow that opens the PDF. Then I used the "Record" button in Automator to watch me click on the Form menu bar item in Acrobat and select "Edit Form in Acrobat". I ran the workflow up to this point and it works fine. Then I use the "Record" button again and it watches me select a field in the form by clicking it. Again no problems. Finally I attempt to use the "Record" button to rename the field. It breaks every time. I try "Control Clicking" the field and selecting "Properties" from the contextual menu. Then renaming the field and clicking the close button. It breaks. I try selecting the Field and then clicking the Form menu bar item and selecting "Show Field Properties", renaming the field and clicking the close button. It breaks. I try double clicking the Field, which causes the Properties window to open, renaming the Field and clicking the close button. It breaks. What gives? If I can do this manually it seems like the Record functionality in Automator ought to be able to do it???? I'm running Snow Leopard and using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 on a MacBook.

OK it appears that selecting the field is what breaks the automation. If I set up the automation to click on the field or drag to select it the automation breaks. If I let the automation run and then move the mouse, the field that I selected in the automation gets dragged around the page. It's like I clicked on the field and held the button down so I could drag it. Same thing happens if I double click the field. Strange....

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Signature Field not Accessible

I created a form using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. It has a signature field. The security settings are off, and according to Pro, all abilities including adding a signature are allowed. When I open the document in Reader XI, I cannot sign it. The Sign tab is available, but all options in that tab are grayed out. I cannot double click on the field or click the signature icon. What settings am I missing?

  • Acrobat Pro resizing print pages

I need to resize a bi-tonal 600 DPI PDF image only file by 80% of original size.
When I process this file it turns the pages into grey scale pages. How do I turn this off and just keep the image as bi-tonal.

  • Resize Field on Left

I need to ability to resize the field on the left without affecting the entire document. I know I can stretch the field as far right as I want, but I need to move the fields on the bottom half of the form over to the right but then I moves over the name and annual income field to match everything below.

One thing you can do is add a "Formatted Text" block and just not set it to anything, so all it's doing is acting like a spacer.

  • Coldfusion:Acrobat buttons and fields

I've looked everywhere and can not find an answer to this.
I'm hoping that the vast brain trust in this "room" can help me.
Here is what I am doing...
I want to attach a .jpg of a signature to a form. Every form
is different as to where that location is BUT I have a form field
(fSignature) where that signature needs to go.
In Acrobat, using javascript, I am able to determine the
location of that text field and place the watermark there OR use a
button and replace the icon with the .jpg.
I really want to do this from ColdFusion, though. With CF8,
    I can do a <cfpdf action="getinfo"> and a <cfpdfform
action="read"> to get information, but none of it tells me WHERE
the fields are. Nor can I find a CF8 function that allows me to
either put a .jpg in a text field (understandably) or change the
    icon of a form button.
So, in summary, my questions are:
Does anyone know how to change the icon of a PDF Form button
    from ColdFusion?
    AND/OR
Does anyone know how to determine the field.rect of a form field
    from ColdFusion?
(It is my fervent hope that this is a simple issue that has been
well documented and that I am just too blind to see it)

Thank you! That was the problem for me too.
(I did do a search before posting, honestly! Paul and I were using different vocabulary to describe the same problem, though)

  • Acrobat 9 Pro: fields deleted after changing compatibility of Acrobat for 4.0

I have pdf's with many of fields in which I need to change compatibility on Adobe 4.0.
When I try to do this (Save as optimized pdf with the option selected "make compatible with" on "Adobe 4.0 or later") program delete all of fields.
This problem appears after changing OS from Win XP on Win 7 Enterprise 64-bit.
Earlier I didn't have that problem.
I will be grateful for any help, reinstalling Adobe has not helped and I did not find any clues on the internet.

Unfortunately I can not share this documents.
However, I noticed that only some of them have above problem. Now I have only to find its cause - changing the OS wasn't the cause of this problem.
    Thank you for your interest.
