Acrobat X Standard defaults to non-existant printer

After uninstalling a Lexmark S310 printer for one specific user, we'll call them UserX, Acrobat X Standard still defaults to the Lexmark S310 printer even though it doesn't exist in Windows anymore. All other users it works correctly, this only affects 1 user, UserX. All other programs work fine for UserX. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with Adobe support who proceeded to tell me that Adobe doesn't store any information in users profiles and that it was a Windows problem, yet their software is the only one having a problem, a complete waste of 30 minutes. I have deleted all the Adobe profile information from c:\users\userx\appdata\local\adobe, c:\users\userx\appdata\locallow\adobe, and c:\users\userx\appdata\roaming\adobe and it still does the same thing. I am at my wits end and about ready to delete the profile and recreate. Anyone have any ideas so I don't have to go that far?

I should also mention that Acrobat does not show the new printer that has been installed. It's almost as if it's stuck in time, I just need to know how to refresh the printer information and "unstick" it

  • Simulating a non-existent printer

    SIMULATING A NON-EXISTING PRINTER
Before buying an expensive colour laser I would like to be able to take it for an imaginary test drive at home, check out all the printer options, generate Postscript files for the printer, and so on. Just play around with it basically. Then when I test drive in the store, I already am familiar with the printer and can really put it through its paces.
So, is it possible to simulate having a printer if all the PPD files, and whatever other files are needed, are in the system but there is no printer connected? Or does the Mac require the printer to be present and have a two way conversation with it? I've used HP and Xerox installers but can never get the printer to come up under Print Centre, because I suppose there's no printer connected.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

    Hi Guy,
As you mentioned, the driver may not work if it can't actually find the printer. I've done this a few times myself. Every so often, the driver will work. Which is nice because then you can see all of the print and color options. Just as easy though is to go to the manufacturer's web site and download the user manual. They almost always have these as a PDF document.
Beyond the actual use of the printer, color is another issue. Since all papers affect how color will look from the same printer, there's no way to tell what you'll get in regard to color unless you print on the paper you will be using. Better of course to profile it first if there is no profile from the manufacturer for the type of paper you want to use. But then you need profiling software and hardware.

  • Acrobat XI Standard - Default Page View question?

Acrobat XI Standard - How do I set all bookmarks to view the same as the "initial view" setting, after combining multiple bookmarked PDF files?

You need to set their zoom setting to Inherit Zoom.

  • Acrobat 9 Standard- Default Save As Location

Is there a setting somewhere, or a registry key that controls the default location when you "Save As"?
I have a user that opens PDF files from the internet, and then saves to a network share.  Every time she opens a document and goes to save it Acrobat defaults to the Temporary Internet Files, and she has to navigate back to the network share.
Is there a way to default it to the root of the network drive, or make Acrobat remember the last location she saved something and default back to there?  This is a fresh install of Acrobat Standard 9 (patched), and she swears it used to remember the last location.
    Thanks

Some folks have suggested registry edits (don't remember if it works), but the simplest way is to simply add a short cut to MyDocuments.

  • Printing to Adobe PDF - non-existant print queue or hanging up error

When printing to a pdf, the process is getting stuck in the printing/saving part of the process. As the attached image will show, the pop-up window shows the file name in the Document Name list, but it defaults to the file entitled "06-2013 Newsletter" (my apologies for all the black scribbles; they're there for privacy's sake). I am unable to select the name of the file I'm printing (in this case, "Combined"); it would appear that the pdf is trying to save into a file that already exists. I thought that perhaps the print queue needed to be cleared, but under Devices and Printers, "See what's printing" for the Adobe PDF printer shows nothing in the queue. The task then comes to a standstill and I am unable to continue.
After researching the issue, the only advice I can find is to do a "hard delete" of everything printing or spooling on my server to hopefully "force out" the stuck jobs, but this is not really an option during a busy workday when multiple jobs are printing at any given time. Is there a more simple solution that I am missing?

Well, after restarting my machine the print queue was cleared of all the dead jobs, but when attempting to print to PDF it hung up again, and then did the same as before - all subsequent jobs tried to save as the filename of the first job in the queue. Very annoying!

  • Print problem (Acrobat 7 Standard, Acrobat 8 Professional)

I have Acrobat 7 Standard Croatian. When we print any pdf document, we get strange characters (image: http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd238/JelenaSi/print_error.gif ). I tried to reinstall, clean everything, print on 3 different printers and the same thing happens. Also, I tried to print files with Acrobat 8 Professional, Reader 7 and 8(2 days I'm installing and reinstalling that computer!)and all of that programs print something strange. All other computers in our company works just fine...
Is there any solution for this? Regional and language settings are set to croatian.
I don't want to reinstall windows(XP SP2) because of some complicated ebank installations...
    Thanks in advance.

Be sure to embed the fonts. I am not quite sure of the features using other languages, but embedding fonts is the first step usually.

  • Corrupt documents after switchover to Acrobat X Standard from Acrobat 5

At this workplace, we have had Acrobat 5 Standard copying and pasting pages from any PDF file from suppliers, Lanier printer / scanner units, AutoCAD.
We have now moved to Acrobat 10 Standard, with latest updates.
Aribitrarily people have been opening the odd existing PDF file and added some pages and saved with Acrobat 10 Standard.
On re-open we have encountered file corruption behaviour - using Acrobat 10 Standard and Acrobat 10 Viewer, we are seeing one or two thumbnails as blank.
I've tried googling for recovery tools and have worked through oh, 5 or so - in short, they are not able to do anything worthwhile  - first page only or did not complete the process.
    My most successful attempts are:
    1. Sumatra PDF - it can see 95 out of 100 pages (the last pages are blank) which is impressive
    2. FoxitPDF Reader - similar
    3. PDF XChange - similar
Writing out a clean PDF of 95 pages is another task.
    My Questions:
    1. Why does the odd PDF corrupt? It does not happen everytime when Acrobat X Standard re-edits the existing old pdf files?
    2. How can we resolve this issue?
    3. What is the most effective repair utility if there is one better than the others?
    Thanks

    Hi Bill,
Good idea about Save As. I myself often save versions of Excel and Word documents as I work but this workplace here doesn't do that for their PDF documents. It is a good idea, increases the files but they have enough network server space (Microsoft Servers). They enclose all kinds of pages into a one document so that they can keep track of the entity - no IT reason why they can't adopt a safer practice in the interim until this is sorted out.
The source files could come from email, scanner, AUTOCAD. However, their issue is that the single destination file was originally ok, the new incoming files are originally ok and when they insert pages into the good destination file using pages from good incoming files, they end up with pdf corruption after save and re-open.
They are not worried about backward compatibility - they now have all Adobe Acrobat Standard 10.
Will batch file conversion help in any way? That is, process all these files to Acrobat 10 level, then use Acrobat 10 normally?
How do they do batch file conversion - can they do that with Acrobat 10 Standard?
    Thanks anyone for your help
    Ananda

  • What is the issue? When printing a 30x42 drawing PDF with 5 pages. The first drawing prints properly, but none of th eothers do. IF I print each separately, by selecting "current page" they print fine. Oh this is for Acrobat XI Standard.

RE Acrobat XI Standard. When printing a 30x42 Drawing PDF with more than 1 page only the first page prints properly the rest are not the proper size or centered. Did I miss a setting? For now I can work around it by printing each page using the "Current Page" setting, but this delays me when there is more than 20 pages etc..

  • Acrobat 8 Standard - Printing Tax Forms in Black - No Forms Toolbar

I have filled out some tax forms in Acrobat 8 Standard, however, the font color for the filled out text is blue, and thus prints as a hard-to-read grey when printing on the laser printer.  I've searched and the standard advice seems to be to use the forms toolbar to change the font color, but when I go to View -> Toolbars, there is no option for the Forms toolbar.
Is there any way I can get this damned text to print as black?  Seems kinda silly to have a form fill-out function that you can't print the result of!

I was very pleased to find this info too. Thanks.
But something a little more important than how to do it is why is it so hard to find? I'm sure there are many more people out there who can't find this and I think it's because it's hard to find. The intuitive functionality, offered by the Properties Bar in Acrobat, called the Control bar in Illustrator, and the Options bar in Photoshop. Acrobat also appears to be the only one in that list that doesn't contain a secondary tool pallet for each function offered by the Properties bar, found in the Window menu.
I've been through everything Tina looked at and most of them seemed like they should contain the font color, although I couldn't find the Document Colors Option. And if it turned out that you can't edit the color, why would it pick red?
So my two questions are, why is this solution so hard to find?
How do you change the default font color so you don't need the Properties bar?
Ok, I feel better now :)

  • Acrobat changes my default printer

I have Acrobat 9 pro installed as part of the CS4 web premium suite. I'm using the pdf maker toolbar in microsoft word to output a pdf.
Everytime I do this Acrobat decides to change my default printer to Adobe PDF which is really annoying. I did a little bit of searching and found others complaining about the same thing, but no solutions.
    Anybody.
If it matters Windows XP Service Pack 3, Word 2003 SP1, Acrobat 9.1.0 pro

Thank you very much for the timely reply.
I am not sure what is causing it myself, well I guess that's pretty obvious.  I got really confused by your explanation and I do appreciate you taking time to clarify your answer.
The last time it happened it wasn't after selecting a printer in word or any other such program. I had gone in and made sure it was set to default on my networked printer and then I printed some text notes I created in notepad. After that I went to a web page to print out a coupon for my wife and that's when I noticed that it had again been changed to the Adobe PDF printer?  So I'm kind of, well not kind of, I'm very confused as to what is resetting my default printer??
I assumed since it has happened in such a variety of situations that it had to be some sort of a win 7 issue? But I am not real good at this sort of troubleshooting.  Is there any chance that this kind of non-invasive event would be noted in the event logs somewhere?
    Thanks again for the response

  • Printing in adobe acrobat 9 standard

when printing a pdf file from a autocad lt 2011 program using adobe acrobat 9 standard program, viewing the pdf file some of the text is missing (random text missing not always the same) this does not happen all the time. does anyone know why this would happen?

Check the settings in the Print Screen / Page Handling section - you may need to check or un-check the auto rotate and center button?

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 standard - crash when print pdf with watermark

it is the EXACT same issue as this:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402928&sliceId=1
the problem is, the steps indicated here to fix the problem in solution 1, do not apply to STANDARD, even though it says it does.
    Solution 3 works just fine.
The problem is this, I do not want my watermarks at 100% opacity. Every solution I have found says "Select PDF Optimizer from the Advanced menu.
I do not see that menu/option anywhere in acrobat 8 standard. I need a fix for this issue, and printing a watermark at %100 opacity or getting a new printer isn't a solution.
Apparently if I could just run the pdf optimizer i could fix this issue, but its nowhere to be found.
I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me. Thanks in advance

I believe the PDF optimizer is only in Professional. I don't have 8 on
my machine now. There may have been something under the file menu that
did some optimization called Reduce File size, but I don't know if it
will fix your problem or what version numbers had the option.

  • How can I use Adobe Acrobat X Standard to print multiple documents on Lexis Nexis File & Serve?

I am unable to print multiple documents on the Lexis Nexis File & Serve legal website that used their Batch Document Processor software. The technicians there told me that Adobe Acrobat X Standard has an incompatibility with their Batch Document Processor software. I never had a problem with Adobe Acrobat 6.0 or Adobe Acrobat 9.0 and the Batch Document Processor program at the Lexis Nexis File & Serve website. I am now running Windows 7 Professional SP1. Before, we were running Windows XP Professional SP3 with the IE 8.0 browser. We now are running the IE 9.0 browser.

The answer is in the question...
Only the Pro version of Acrobat is capable of batch processing files (which
I assume the Lexis Nexis tool uses). Until now you had Acrobat Pro, and now
you have Acrobat Standard, and therefore you can't use it anymore. You need
    to upgrade to Acrobat Pro.

  • Printer Marks in Acrobat 8 Standard

I want to print various PDF files and have the file name included on the printed page. I can do this in Acrobat 8 Pro by choosing Advanced/Marks and Bleeds/Page Information from within the print dialog box on a Mac. However, I need to do this using Acrobat 8 Standard on Windows XP but I do not see the same options or anything similar. Is there a way to do this with Acrobat 8 Standard?
    Thanks, Jon

You could try to insert a header or footer on the pdf. I don't have
    standard but it should work.
