Acrobat XI Distiller has stopped working

Version 11.0.09 acrobat XI
Version 11.0.929 distiller
Windows Server 2008 R2 terminal server.
My users print to pdf from any application and distiller fails with an app crash of Event ID 1000 and 1005. I run repairs of the installation and it resolves the issue for a few days. On average 8 users on the terminal server.
Any ideas.

Bill, As far as the Terminal Server side of licensing, see the following which speaks to the hosted server license. http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/pdfs/Citrix_Policy_AX_AXI_11-12-2012.pdf
I purchase through the TLP program for our licenses.
I have seen similar issues on different forums and it has shown itself in more than just server settings. No answer ever seems to show.

  • Acrobat Distiller has stopped working (not 30 day issue)

I've been running CS6 on my Windows 7, 64 bit machine since at least October. I had the 30 day issue at the 30 day mark, but resolved it and it's worked flawlessly for months after that. Now,  I get an error message that says Acrobat Distiller has stopped working. My only option is to close that window. Acrobat continues to work to read, edit and save an already created  PDFs. Here are where I experience errors.
I can create a new PDF within Acrobat.  If I click "Create PDF" then choose a Word Doc, it gives me at least two times the error message that Acrobat Distiller has stopped working. If I keep closing that message, eventually the pdf will have been created and will be in the Acrobat window and the file will be saved.
I can't print to PDF at all. When I try from within Acrobat, I see a little window that says it's checking fonts, then the Distiller stopped working error message. When I try printing to pdf from other programs (have tried Word, Firefox), crashes.  It could be a one page document with just text, or something with pictures -  no go.  I just tested it again - now Acrobat is not responding.  I can't end the Acrobat process - have tried closing the window, and saying end process, tried ending Acrobat from within task manager, tried ending the acrobat and acrotray processes - multiple times in Task Manager and Acrobat won't close.
I don't know how to fix this. I've checked to make sure Acrobat was updated; I've updated my Windows; I've reinstalled Acrobat.  Nothing fixes it.
When I run Acrobat Distiller, it freezes seemingly in the midst of checking fonts.   Here is the text of the problem details section of the error message I get:

I think I may have fixed my problem...  I am no longer seeing the Distiller stopped working pop up and I am now able to print to PDF
    Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
My Fonts and program are all installed on the same drive  thus preventing me from gaining access to Distiller to change the settings. Windows would not let me make any changes to the Default Font folder.
    This is what I did...
Not knowing which font(s) where causing the problem, I moved all but protected fonts (automatically labelled) from the Window's Font folder and placed them in a temporary folder.
I restarted Distiller DC and great news...the program did not crash and I was able to change the settings to temporarily not include the Windows Fonts .No more pop ups and I can now print to PDF!
What I am going to do..
Through the process of elimination, I will gradually restore the fonts I removed from from the Window's folder to find the culprits(s)
Once I am satisfied that the problem Font(s) are found and no longer  included in the Window's Font folder, I will change the settings in Distiller back (permanently) to include the Window's Font folder.
In closing, and because so many others are having the same issues, I really do think it would be prudent for Adobe to make the necessary adjustments to their program(s) to prevent this kind of issue.
    Thanks
    Kathy

  • Acrobat Distiller has stopped working

I see this has been posted a couple of times but the issue has not been resolved.
I am running FrameMaker 12, Distiller XI, on Windows 7.
I'm trying to File > Save as PDF and I get the error--  Acrobat Distiller has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
The only option is to click close. This error appear 3 times before it really stops.
I have investigated this issue to a particular font issue. Although, I do not know how to correct it.
In the Distiller, Settings > Edit Adobe PDF settings , I have selected the folder for Fonts, unchecked Embed all fonts, added my font to the Always Embed list, saved my settings and then used those settings to try the same process again, with the same result.
The font that I want to embed is a free font, so there should not be any license issue with it.

This will not be Distiller Server, I suggest the regular Acrobat Creation forum. Nobody comes to this forum because Distiller Server stopped years ago.

  • FM 8: Acrobat Distiller has stopped working

I've recently upgraded to FM 8 and am trying to print a .book that I printed successfully many times in FM 7.
I am doing a Print Book... command. When I get to a certain .fm file, I receive the message "Acrobat Distiller has stopped working." I click OK and in a few seconds, the system informs me that my .pdf was created successfully...except, it doesn't exist. (When I try to do a "Save as PDF," a .tps file is generated that is very large, but no .pdf.)
The only difference between the problematic file and the others is that it is in a different folder than the previous files. I've even tried re-creating the file from scratch.
At this point, I'm not even sure what to check to try to diagnose the problem. I am running FM 8 (p 277) on Windows Vista Business SP1. Do I need to update Distiller somehow? How can I check the Distiller version? What folder would contain a detailed log of the print attempt? (I've printed other .book files that came over from FM7 without incident.)
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Van, can you tell me how to find and delete extra distiller apps?
    Brian

  • "Distiller has stopped working" when working with font managers

Don't know if this is the right forum to be posting, but there isn't a Distiller forum. I did see a post with my EXACT problem mentioned on the Distiller Server forum, to which someone disdainfully responded that the Acrobat area is where to post.
So... I've got a Vista machine, running CS3 fairly flawlessly. I get the message "distiller has stopped working" whenever browsing fonts in Font Navigator (which came with Corel X3). I thought this was unique to Font Nav, until I tried Suitcase and Font Agent Pro as other font management options. Same error message.
Firstly, I'm not clear on why distiller is running in the first place, and secondly, why messing with fonts is causing the conflict. I did find another discussion that pointed me to an update to solve the problem, but it didn't work.
    Ideas?

    >why distiller is running in the first place
I don't know about Vista, but in XP you use the MSCONFIG program to see what is in the startup process

  • How do I fix:  "Adobe acrobat 9.5 has stopped working"

Whenever I try to open a file using Adobe Acrobat 9.5, I get the message:  "Adobe acrobat 9.5 has stopped working"  "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Please close the program".  Acrobat reader 9.5 appears to work fine.  I am also having problems when opening PDF files from the internet using Internet Explorer.  If I try to open a PDF file with Internet Explorer I get and error message Box which says:  "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library - Runtimr Error! - Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe - R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. - Please contact the application's support team for more information."  Then when I click OK, I get the following in IE:  "Interner Explorer has closed this web page to help protect your computer - A malfaunction or malicious add-on has cause Internet Explorer to close this webpage. - More Information - Windows Data Execution Prevention detected an add-on trying to use system memory incorrectly. This can be caused by a malfunction or a malicious add-on.  Other things you can do:  Go online to learn about the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) security feature".  I am running Windows 7 Pro version 6.1 (Build 7601, Service pack 1) and Internet Explorer 8 version8.0.7601.17514 and Adobe Acrobat 9.5 Standard.  I would give you the version but I can't keep the program open long enough to check that.  Please HELP I need Acrobat working on this computer.

Reader is not Acrobat, but I got the gist. To try to resolve the issue, open Acrobat and go to Help>Repair. Hopefully that will fix the problem.
The C++ library sometimes gets messed up and has to be reloaded. That would have to be done by way of MS.
After the repair, I would strongly recommend going back to Help>Check for Updates and install updates in order. Since you did not mention updates, I suspect you are running 9.0.0. Also, you did not mention your OS level as 32 or 64-bit. If it is a 64-bit system, you need to run the updates for AA9 to work properly.

To go along with Michael's suggestion, something like AA9.2 is needed for X64 systems I think. Also, be careful. Acrobat is not licensed for use on a server. Using it as a user is fine, but not as a server application. Read the license carefully.

  • Acrobat 8.1 has stopped working

Lately, however I try to choose Create PDF from Scanner, I end up with a Windows monologue box:  Adobe 8.1 has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I upgraded my program from 8.1.3 to 8.1.4 to 8.1.5 yesterday and today.  Several times I tried in the Help menu:  Repair Acrobat Installation.  At least one of those times Windows gave me another monologue box:  Windows installer stopped working.  Any suggestions?

With the absence of any further information, it would be useful to know what your environment is (e.g., OS + SP level, hardware). Do you have Reader installed in addition to Acrobat? From where did you purchase Acrobat? What other, if any, error messages do you get? Just saying Acrobat "stops working" does not precisely describe what you problem might be.
After we know this, we might have a better chance to help you?

  • Acrobat 8 Professional "has stopped working" every time I close a document.

Some time ago I had a virus infection but was able to clean my computer. Before that date, Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional was working fine but since then, every time I close a document, the program closes down with the message "Acrobat 8 has stopped working". Windows will look for a solution and never finds one.
Probably, with the virus, one of the Acrobat 8 files must have been corrupted, but I have not been able to find out which one or how to repair it.
Anyone with a similar situation who can point me to the solution?
Or should I just reinstall Acrobat from scratch?
    Thanks, Hubert

    Thanks, Bill,
Tried this but my Help does not open/show the option Repair.
Online support goes to an error page...
Do you have/are there other repair options?
    Thanks.
