Acrobat xi is extremely slow to launch on windows 8

when i double click on a document, it takes a couple of minutes for acrobat to launch.
I am running Adobe Acrobat Reader 11.0.0 on windows 8 enterprise, 64 bit

Have you installed the 11.0.01 update that went live on Jan. 8?  Does this behavior still occur after updated?

Why does Acrobat Pdf converter file slow down my 2003, Windows  Word Program.  I only experience this problem when i convert a pdf file to a doc file.

Hi Bill -- thanks for your reply!
When I check the Document Properties on Acrobat I can see that the fonts used in the document (Cambria, Times and Windings) are listed as "Embedded Subset" in the Fonts panel. The machine it was created on did use an earlier version of OS X and an old version of Word, but it seems to have the proper fonts...

  • Acrobat 9 Professional extremely slow due to weblink.api plugin

    Hello everybody,
my Acrobat opens extremely slow and is also extremely slow when adding comments to PDF files. By temporarily removing some files from the plugins directory, I found out that this is caused by the weblink.api file. However, I need the functionality provided by that plugin, in particualr the comments. How can I get a reasonable performance and the comments functionality?
Additional question: I noticed that quite a few plugin that are available in the plugins directory are not loaded on startup. Is this the expected behaviour?
    Thanks for any help

  • Windows  suddenly got slow to launch in Windows 7

I have a Dell pc with 3 gig of ram and a dual core processor. When I first installed Photoshop it started right up as soonas I clicked the icon. Now it takes about 10 seconds toload and when it does come up it takes another 5 seconds or so to respond. I tried loading only the basic drivers and that did not owrk. Tried running in admin mode..still no better. The only thing that made a difference was running it in safe mode. Anyone have any suggestions. I acn be reached at [email protected]
    thanks,

Where John is going with the printer question is that if you default printer is networked, THAT will slow PS to a crawl on loading. Check your system's default printer. If it happens to be on the network, then choose something like PS Generic, and then just change to the networked printer for the print job. Many of us (myself included) fought this for sometime, until a user here found the problem - default networked printer.
Checking the scanner software for updates is a good tip too.
Good luck, and hope that you get it sorted.

  • SMB Extremely Slow over VPN With Windows Server 2003

    Hello everyone,
I finally convinced another person at my law firm to switch to a MacBook Pro. In preparation, I am attempting to fix any compatibility problems that would put off this new user. Unfortunately, our IT guy recently switched us to a Sonicwall SSL-VPN 200. I can connect to our server through the VPN client with no problems and I can mount our internal file server, but the connection is incredibly slow. My initial reaction was that it must be a problem with Windows Server 2003 and SMB, but I was previously able to connect to and operate on our VPN through our old Fortinet (ipsec) device with no problems. Simply put, directory switching, file moving, etc. are all now incredibly slow over the VPN. Help!

Full support for SMB signing did not appear until Samba 3.0.2 released in 2004. Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) supports SMB signing. Previous versions require either disabling SMB signing server-side, using a third party SMB client, using the command-line smbclient program, or updating samba yourself.

  • How can I speed up opening documents in Adobe Reader xi?   It is extremely slow.  I have Windows 7 Professional.

Opening documents with Adobe Reader xi on my computer is extrememly time-consuming and frustrating. Should I go back to an earlier version of Adobe? I never had this problem until I updated.  My operating system is Windows 7 Professional.

    Hi SuzyQ1,
The opening time of a PDF depends a lot on its internal structure.
Very complex forms are also known for long opening times.
Try clearing the Temporary files on your Windows and it will speed up your system to some extent.
Another thing you can do is,you would have to turn off any software that is running either in your Task Bar or shut them down in Task Manager.

  • Installation Extremely Slow - Hangs during Expanding Windows Files

I'm trying to get 7 to install and I'm having a bear of a time.  It has taken a tremendously long time to cycle through the steps and after a little more than an hour, it was only at 6% of Expanding Windows Files.
I've taken a stick of RAM out bringing me down to 2gb, have tried three burns (one at the slowest speed and verified), neither has helped.  Please help.
    My system specs:
    5400+ Black Edition (non-OCed)
    Abit AN52 Motherboard (nForce 520)
    OCZ PC-6400 4gb (2gb during install)
    XfX Geforce 8800GT
    Western Digital Raptor x2

i was having the same problem on my system dell inspiron i try all the possible ways but still the same no any achievement after all the process i even give up and install xp but suddenly i try one process which is by using pendrive and it woks perfectly
here are the process of doing so
    get a pendrie 4GB minimum
    Step 1. Preparing USB drive
Open command prompt, from Start > run > cmd. If you are on vista or Windows 7, you might need to run it as elevated administrator. You can do this by creating shortcut to “cmd” on desktop then right click
    > “Run as Administrator”.
    Enter following commands -
    > Diskpart
    DISKPART> LIST DISK
Disk ###  Status         Size     Free     Dyn  Gpt
    Disk 0    Online           93 GB    13 MB
    Disk 1    Online           8 GB    6 MB
Note down the number corresponding Disk number. 1 in my case
    DISKPART> SELECT DISK 1
    >CLEAN
    >CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    >SELECT PARTITION 1     – This 1 remains same always.
    >ACTIVE
    >FORMAT FS=NTFS
    >ASSIGN
    >EXIT
Step 2. Copy Installed CD/DVD contents to USB drive
    > xcopy e:\*.* /s/e/f f:\
where e:\ is your source DVD drive, f:\ is target USB drive
    Step 3.Changing BIOS Settings
Reboot into BIOS. Change settings to Enable “Boot from USB”, and give it the highest precedence. Save settings and reboot, You would reboot into installation.

  • Itunes sometimes slow to launch with Windows XP

Sometimes itunes opens in about 4 seconds, and sometimes it takes between 10 to 12 seconds before I even see the itunes screen. Is this delay normal? Can anyone explain why this delay only occurs sometimes?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have noticed this too. When using Itunes (without an Ipod) in the past few months, my PC has taken over a minute to boot up Itunes. I often have several other applications open at the same time. I also notice that music that I play in Itunes "jitters" from time to time. Other MP3 playing software (e.g Winamp, Napster, Rhapsody) never lag or "jitter". Is Itunes very RAM demanding versus other programs?
Today, when connecting a new Ipod Nano for the first two times, it took amost 3 minutes for Itunes to actually appear on the screen! We have not connected a third time yet.

  • Applications Slow to Launch

I have a Macbook Pro (15 inch 2010). The applications are very slow to launch (keeps jumping for long before launching). Have pasted a report about my system generated using a software (EtreCheck) as advised in the link How to eliminate slow Mac problems. I would be very grateful if someone could help. The MS Office for Mac is extremely slow to launch. The application launch is slow even when my CPU is more than 90% idle and though no backing up is taking place in the background.
Spinning beach ball is a common occurrence though it has not yet started irritating me.

  • Nested Win2012/HyperV inside VM workstation extremely slow, any solution?

My desktop has AMD 8-core CPU (3.2GHz) and 32GB RAM, I installed Windows Server Datacenter 2012 onto VMWare workstation 10.0.4, I assigned 4 vCPU, 16GB RAM and 120GB HDD to this virtual server, in the "Virtual Machine Settings",
Hardware---> Processors,  My "Preferred mode" is "Automatic", I also selected both "Virtualization Intel VT-x/EPT r AMD-V/RVI" and "virtualization CPU performance counters".
the issue I have is the installation of any VMs are extremely slow, try to install windows XP Professional (I use old OS because they are relatively less bloated, it will take 2h to finish, and I tried Ubuntu 8.0 and Centos 4.8 (I know
both are not supported by Microsodt due to competing relations), it will takes forever, so I gave up.  Also when I use anything related to HyperV, it is very sluggish.
I am setting this in my home lab, and my server's Windows 2012 trial license expired, so I can only play with HyperV inside VMWare workstation.  I also installed ESXi 5.5 in a similar way, it works smooths without much hiccup.
       Any solutions?  thanks!

    Hi Sir,
    Hyper-v needs bare-metal installation .
    In your case , hyper-v wasn't  installed on a real hardware .

all applications are running extremly slow even crashing. finder window opens cursor just spins all the time..all typing is paused i type it shows up seconds later

Ho much free space on your hard drive? At least 10 GB needed for optimal functioning of OSX.
Verify your hard drive and permissions and repair if necessary.
First, if at all possible make a backup of the drive in its present configuration. If something goes wrong during repair attempts and makes things worse you will have a backup. You will have to decide how to work this in the light of any present backups you may have, for example, a backup that may be a few days out of date. In that case you may want to keep that one and make a second backup of this as they are now, though I realize people often don't have a lot of empty drives sitting around.
Next, boot from the installer disk, select language if applicable, choose utilities, run Disk Utility and verify (and repair if necessary) the drive. Then repair the permissions on your computer. You can also repair permissions from DU on your main drive while booted, but to properly verify and repair your drive you have to run it from a drive other than the boot drive. A limited repair is also performed as part of a Safe Mode boot.

From BDaqua (couldn't have said it better):
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer (Edit: Do not use this disc if it is not the same general version as what you have currently on your computer, e.g. use a Tiger disc for a Tiger drive, not a Panther disc), then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes."
Try Applejack for a general check.

Some general maintenance tips, but don't overdo it with these utilities because OSX does a lot of this automatically and if you are experience problems like this it isn't due to bad "maintenance" but likely due to something like an over-full hard drive.

  • Failed ? install of 10.8 -safe mode extremely slow

hi  this is my first post here
i have an imac early  2009   core2duo 2.93 ghz  with   8gb  ram ( it came with 4 but  i upgraded with  official  apple ram  - took it    to an authorized reseller .
( i  'm in  greece  and we do not have an apple store  ... yet  )
anyway i  was running  10.6.8  and it was fast  but i decided  to upgrade  to mountain  lion
i used a usb stick to format since the imac had a kernel panic and was unable to create a second partition  for dual  booting ( i was planning on installing   10.8 on  a second partition  just to test before  updating   Macintosh HD  )
    so i formated
it installed  and said     installation succeeded  BUT  when it restarted    after  the boot chime      and the  apple logo  and the  wheel  the desktop did not show   up  .           just  a blank  screen  .   white .
then apple support  told me to    format again with the snow leopard dvd   and  redownload   10.8  from the mac app store    and update  . did all that ( disk newly formatted   )   same thing happened  .
after  the installation  suceeded message your computer will restart in 5,4,3,2,1 it restarts    and  boom  no desktop
apple support  told me  to start in safe mode and it booted  .     but it is extremely slow   .    laggy . like windows with a virus
activity moitor    ( i barely managed to open it  ) said  cpu  97% usage  and  ram  7.00 gb  + used
is it normal  for  safe  boot to be so slow  or  my   imac      cannot  run     10.8 ?
    it's a core2duo 2.93 ghz as i mentioned
and i upgraded  the ram  to 8gb   just  for the update   .  .

in the authorized     apple service  they  told  me it's  probably the   hard disk  but      the  support phone line  sais  probably  sth          with the graphics
both  agree  :  hardware  issue   ...
it's a pitty they removed lion    from the  app store  . i could format  back to snow leopard  download  lion ( which i bought but never installed )  and then            update  to  lion       .
i do have a bootable  dvd  created   from the     InstalESD.dmg  file    of  lion  .  i also  have  a copy of the installer    on  my  external  HDD   .
would it  cause more trouble if    i used the  lion  dvd  i created boot from there format ,     and then choose reinstall mac os x  ... then see what happens  ?
maybe it's  just  m lion  that  causes    the problem  ?
and and another  thing  .  if   it   is  indeed  a  harware   problem     wouldn't    i    encounter the same  issues  on  snow  leopard  when    i formatted            and   came back to it    from  M Lion  ?

  • Acrobat 8.1.2 Pro: Extremely slow printing

Whenever Acrobat Pro (8.1.2 on OSX 10.4.11) is used to print, pages print extremely slow, up to 5 minutes or more per page. When printing documents, bigger dan 100 pages, in several hours it will print, but contributes a zero kb file to the print queue. My only solution so far is to use the free acrobat reader for printing purposes, which prints the same document flawlessly in minutes...
Anybody have the same issues and/or better solutions?
    Thanks in advance

I think this is a problem related to 8.1.2.
We're on Windows XP SP2 on very new PCs with no printer driver changes. The Reader version is now 8.1.2, and a simple, black and white 1 bit PDF file that took a few seconds to print before, now takes minutes to even send to the printer after the upgrade. (The last workstation that upgraded this morning is now complaining of the exact same issue.) I've even tried removing my SOPHOS anti-virus to see if that's the issue - no change in Reader's print performance. All other applications print fine. I can't seem to troubleshoot the problem, but I believe it's something Adobe changed in 8.1.2. Maybe it's time to seriously try an alternative reader...

Hi, I have a 4 year old 27 inch imac, running 10.10.3; it has become extremely slow to boot up, to open apps and to get online.  I'm a fairly heavy user of dropbox, and I am wondering if that is the issue -- other than that I run very run of the mill apps -- itunes, word/ppt/excel/, ical, imessage, firefox and safari, adobi acrobat, some use of iphoto.  Suggestions?

Hi Old Toad -- this is what I got on Etrecheck:
    Problem description:
iMac is running very slow, especially when opening apps, and esp. when opening browsers.  (And within browser — e.g., gmail v. slow).
