Acrobat XI - PDF Optimizer problems

In Acrobat XI, I know that the PDF Optimizer moved to the Save or Save As function. The problem that I am facing is that on one (out of 30) of the Macs that I support, when I choose PDF Optimizer, the Optimizer window does not appear. I uninstalled and re-installed Acrobat, but it still does not work. HELP!

Rave,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I was able to answer my own question this morning. I found that 2 of the PDF Optimizer settings, which are located in the PDF Optimizer folder in the Application Support folder for Acrobat were corrupt. Once I eliminated the settings from the PDF Optimizer folder the Optimizer window worked properly again.
Thank you,
Jeff

  • Acrobat Pro 9: PDF Optimizer module refuses to load...

Okay, I have a weird one...
Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.06 - The PDF Optimizer module just decided to stop loading yesterday. You poll the menu item and the window does not appear.
So I followed the usual protocols:
    I restarted - nothing.
    I ran a privilege fix - nothing.
I ran a deeper privilege fix and a drive diagnostic - nothing.
I logged in with a new account - Acrobat's PDF Optimizer module worked - so it must be preference corruption.
I reinstalled the application from the original media and updated it to 9.1 - still no PDF Optimizer.
So... the answer is preference corruption. But the question is, which preferences am I safe to delete?
I really don't fancy killing my suite and having to reinstall everything over again, so if I could pinpoint which prefs to kill to just affect Acrobat it would save me some time and stress...
    Does anyone know?

The generic Acrobat forum wasn't an option when I had to select which community I was allowed to publish the question to... That was my first option.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 pdf optimizer failure..

We have a problem optimizing files in Acrobat Pro 9.
When we try to optimize (Advance > PDF Optimize) the file(s) Acrobat either chrashes, or just say "an error was encountered while processing images".
It is rather large files we have, from 50Mb to 112Mb and up to 17000 pages.
We cant split them into smaller files.
I can´t find anythin in the error log.
This happends on at least 4 computers, whit diffrent settings and hardware.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

You've likely exceeded your computers' capacity to process the necessary commands specified in the Optimizer settings chosen.
During optimization, a temp file will be created that is approximately the same size as the file being processed. The computer must be able to handle the additional load of each page being analyzed and processed. Text is not so bad, but layered images can be murder on memory.
There are some cases when an optimized pdf might actually end up being a larger file size than the original. Sometimes a simple Save As can dramatically reduce file size.
What is the goal of the optimization? How are you planning to distribute the document? Is there a reason for not providing multiple files instead of one large file? If you can give a few more details, some of the folks here might be able to give some helpful ideas.
FYI: A good article: "Understanding Acrobat's Optimizer" http://www.appligent.com/talkingpdf-understandingacrobatsoptimizer
It doesn't answer your question, but does provide good information about making optimizer choices

  • Good day, I have installed Acrobat DC, and would like to combine 2 files. One is excel allready converted to PDF - No problem. The other one is from Pastel mailed as PDF.

    Good day,
I have installed Acrobat DC, and would like to combine 2 files. One is excel allready converted to PDF - No problem. The other one is from Pastel mailed as PDF.
When trying to merge the files, this file ask for a Password. No password was issued from the setup or mail?

    Good day abrieb93050306,
I can understand your concern, however can you please let me know that are you able to open both the PDF files ( the one you converted form excel to pdf & the other pdf that was mailed to you ) individually without using any password?
As it asks for the password, it means that the postal mailed PDF is password protected. You can ask for the password from the sender of the postal mail & then try to combine the files.
Please follow the steps in the provided KB doc.to combine the files : Combine files into single PDF | Adobe Acrobat DC tutorials
This will probably resolve your issue.
Let me know if you still experience any issue.

  • Where is PDF Optimizer in Acrobat X Pro?

Just downloaded the trial version of Acrobat X Pro (said to be a full version).  New menu system - cannot find "PDF Optimizer" screen which was under "Advanced" tab on previous versions.
Have added all the available "Tools" to my Tool Panel and have tried Adobe's not so helpful online help.   I'm fairly new to Acrobat -- can anyone point me in the right direction?
Would buy Acrobat 9, but not showing as option on Adobe products anymore.

Can someome tell me if "PDF Optimizer"; "Save as Postscript"  and "Distiller" features are included the Standard version or only in the Professional version?

Yes to Postscript export and Distiller, no to PDF Optimizer. You can find the help doc at: http://www.adobe.com/support/acrobat/

  • Optimization problem in Acrobat Pro 9 on an iMac.

If I use the Highlight Text Tool on selected text within a PDF, then choose Advanced/PDF Optimizer, the resulting PDF has solid color covering up any text I highlighted in yellow with the Highlight Text Tool. I can no longer see the text beneath the yellow highlights in the optimized PDF.
Anyone know why this happens and how to stop it.

    Hi Sailesh,
If you're running Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or 10.7 (Lion), Adobe PDF is replaced.
    See the following blog posting:

  • Acrobat 9 Pro Optimize Scanned Documents problems

Acrobat 9 Pro Optimize Scanned Documents only seems to affect the first page of the document when I try to remove the gray background that is an artifact of the scanning which I didn't do.

But that's just plain stupid! I don't want 20 windows open when I drag 20 files into Acrobat for printing. I just want one.
I wonder why they have done it like this.
There are a lot of things missing from Acrobat 7 that I wish they hadn't removed. I thought upgrades was supposed to make a program better, not worse! Now I have to find work-arounds for a lot of things that was easy before and now doesn't work at all or works but takes a lot of time to do.

  • Acrobat 9 - Use Optimize PDF from command-line or batch

one can use the functionality optimize pdf from the command line or a batch script?

I found the solution. With the batch sequence i create the pdf optimization, and use the plug-in Autobatchtool (from the partner evermap) to run this batch from command-line. Thanks for you help

  • Can a pdf have problems when created with multiple PDF versions?

In our everyday workflow, we have PDFs created from different versions.  Our main files are created as PDF v1.5, but then we might import pages created from another software that is v1.3, then we might scan and add a page that is created as v1.6.  Has anyone noticed any issues with files created this way?  I am troubleshooting some problem files and wonder if this could be contributing.
    Thanks.

Could possibly be an issue, but it likely depends on the features used. The major problem would be going from later versions to prior versions in terms of the version you open everything in. If you are using the latest version for the editing, I would not see why there would be a problem. Earlier versions of Acrobat may have problems with PDFs saved in later versions, but that can typically be fixed with Reduce File Size or the PDF Optimizer.

  • PDF Optimizer enlarging size of PDFs

    Hi
We have a vendor who supplies PDF files to us. These PDF files are around 4-5MB in size, and need to be reduced for the web. Using the Reduce File Size menu enlarges them to around 18MB. Using the PDF Optimizer also enlarges the files to the same size, no matter what settings/presets you use. I've tried 3rd party PDF reduction software, and they either don't reduce the file at all, or crash. No problem with other vendor PDFs.
Looking at the resultant 18MB file in Pitstop, the images haven't been downsampled at all, and have in fact lost their compression all together. The only two ways I have to compress these files is 1) Manually using Pitstop image by image, or 2) printing to PDF using the smallest file size distiller option. Both methods are too slow.
One unusual message comes up after reducing the file size: %% [Error: invalidfont; PostScript program did not contain a font ]%%
If I delete all objects except the images and reduce the file size again, it stops the error message, but the result is still 18MB. PDF version is 1.3 (4.x)
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Andrew.

    Thanks for the reply Mike.
The PDF File Optimizer is what I would prefer to use, and it works very well with most PDFs. Unfortunately, these particular PDFs don't compress using the Optimizer. I've tried many different settings, even dropping the images down to 50dpi, and Low quality, but no matter what settings I use, the files always end up around 5 times the size of the original, and the images don't get compressed or downsampled.
I think the files must all be corrupted in some way, as the only way to fix them is to repdf them from Acrobat, which unfortunately is time consuming, and it's happening to all PDF files from this agency.
    Cheers,
    Andrew.

  • Why does PDF Optimizer no longer reduce size after CS4 upgrade?

I've been able to successfully reduce the size of the PDFs created from my Illustrator files for years using Advanced> PDF Optimizer in Acrobat Pro. Upgraded to CS4 last week. Now it seems to have reduced everything, but the files are still huge. When I check Space Audit 96% or more is taken up by "piece information".
I've tried changing the Adobe PDF presets, the Document Raster Effects settings, and outlining all text in Illustrator to see if that made a difference. Nothing. The frustrating thing is i've done this for years with no problem. HELP?!?!

    after CS4 upgrade?
Hi, I've found the solution because today it happened to me as well.
Just go to "PDF Optimizer", then click to "Discard user data" and finally to
"Discard private data from other applications": in this way you delete any
information left by Illustrator and your file's size will get reduced.
    It works.
Good luckThanks so much! That works like a charm!!

  • PDF Optimizer decreases resolution, increases file size

I've noticed that the file size of my PDF files INCREASES now when I optimize them now that I've updated to version 7.0.7. The image resolution still decreases but the files increase significantly. For example, I have a 2 page document that originally was 3.2mb as a hi-resolution PDF. After I optimized it down to 72dpi for the images the file increased to 20.5mb!! I use this feature for documents that we publish on our web sites or to send a proof to a customer.
Is this just a new bug in version 7.0.7?

    MAC G5, 1 gb RAM, OS 10.4
    Indesign CS3
Acrobat version : at least 7.0.6 or newer (I'm not at work to verify the version)
I'm having the same problem. Doing a SAVE AS does not fix anything.
I have created a High Res PDF of a 56 page catalogue using Indesign CS3. I had to divide the document into two sections. The first file is 131 megs and the other 78 megs. I have to print high res for the client. Then I need to downsize the resolution so that I can send the catalogue to the client. Whether I choose PDF Optimizer or Reduce file..., the 131 megs PDF became 1.27 GB and not to mention the time wasted! This is enormous! I assure you that I have checked all settings for the PDF.
To counter the problem, I have to do a SAVE AS POSCRIPT file. Then I reduce the size using Acrobat Distiller. The 131 megs file then became 21 megs, which is what it should have been with Optimizer.
I don't understand what's happening with the Optimizer? It seems that there's an update version that has installed this bug. Which one? How to fix this problem? Is there anyone on this earth that knows what to do?
