Acrobat XI Won't Open

On my Mac (OSX Mountain Lion (latest version)). Acrobat XI opens, displays a dialog box with no content other than a "quit" and "accept" buttons. The "quit" button quits the dialoge and terminates the application. The "accept" button doesn't respond. There is nothing in the dialog box (image attached). What is causing this? I have uninstalled and installed this through my Creative Cloud accout a few times and it dosen't work. To uninstal, I have gone through the applications/unitlities directory to uninstal the application and it's preferences. So I am stupified at what is causing this. Is this an Acrobat bug? In addition, my Creative Cloud account is in good standing and all my other applications function fine. Can any one please help solve this problem?
Thanks

Hi Stan,
The troubleshooting steps are mentioned in this document for the same problem.

  • Acrobat Pro won't open, how do I restore it?

My Acrobat Pro won't open, how do I restore it?

Yes, updates run each time I reinstall Bill.
On one forum, it was suggested to download Adobe cleaner.  I ran it every time before reinstalling.  Adobe XI Pro works after that, but is so unstable.  Cant figure out what triggers it to stop launching.

  • Acrobat just won't open...

Adobe Acrobat 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I keep getting that pop up error every time I try to open it.  I've uninstalled all Adobe related software and reinstalled...still won't open.

Something changed since the last time you used Acrobat.  It is just a matter of figuring out what it is.  Windows updates?  Do you have restore points so you can roll it back to when you know it was working?

  • Acrobat 11 won't open

I have downloaded and installed Acrobat XI Pro three times in Windows 8.1. I purchased the monthly subscription at 19.99/month ... The software opens 1x, and then won't open again no way no how. What a pain! I have written to Adobe about it once before ... No answer.

Did you sign into Acrobat after you started it? I am not sure about the process for the subscription service, but the login seems to be required. You could also try a repair and then do the updates.

  • Acrobat Pro won't open a PDF file.

I know this isn't a Mac question but I've been to Adobe and they are no help. I have PDF files that were created by Acrobat Pro that will not open when I click on the file icon yet, if I open the Acrobat program it will open the file. This is annoying. Has any one experienced this and is there a solution?

Thanks, your response helped. I knew Preview was the default for PDF files but I had changed that (using Get Info) but I failed to notice two important items. (1) The "Change All" button and (2) the "lock icon down in the lower right part of the window. Once I reselected Acrobat as the "opening" program, selected "Change All", AND unlocked the window so that changes would be incorporated, and OH, I even threw in a restart, everything works as expected. Picky, Picky, Picky.
    Thanks again.

  • Acrobat distiller won't open file from word to create pdf

I can choose acrobat from word and print pdf -- but acrobat pro 9 gives me an error message when I try to select a file from word to create a pdf. I can print acrobat from word but not from acrobat
The error message just says can't open, check if you have read permissions for this file.  I've been doing this, but now it won't select a file from word.
    Thanks.

Sorry Bill, It's Word 7.  I can create an acrobat pdf by choosing it when I print in word but if I try to create a pdf from acrobat - from the file - it won't work.  I get the same error.  Can't open  do you have read priviledges.  Not sure what that is or if there is a setting someplace that got checked or unchecked.
    Thanks.

  • Acrobat 8 won't open

I am running a Mac Leopard 10.5.8 and CS3. Acrobat Professional 8 will not open, and is affecting the rest of the Suite applications, meaning...for example in Illustrator I can't save any document if I check the option PDF Compatible File when I save a file. I have uninstalled and reinstalled CS3, but no luck. I called Adobe and no luck there either. I am not sure if this is an update issue with apple or adobe. I have been using CS3 with no problems at all for over a year, and then all of a sudden it doesn't work. Please help!!!!

You are not going to believe this....I did an Erase and Install on Leopard and did NO upgrades on the OS. Then I installed Adobe CS3 and did NO upgrades. Then I tested my file...my process is.....copy and paste my layers from one file to a new illustrator file and checked the option in the layers palette Paste Remembers Layers before pasting. I hit Save file with PDF Compatible file option checked and I got the beach ball of death again and had to Force Quit. I waited 5 min. or more before quiting. Obviously this is not an update or a corrupt preference file issue. I guess it's just the limitations of Illustrator CS3. Just weird how I never had this problem before in the 2 years I have been using Illustrator CS3. I can save files with the PDF Compatible file option, but I think when I try to save a big file all at once it won't save. When I don't check the option PDF Compatible file, it does save. Do you have anything to add? I'm lost for words now.

  • Acrobat Pro Won't Open PDF Files

I get this message when trying to click open pdf files in a directory.  These files will open from Acrobat open file menu. Message - The document “SpecSheet_Zip.pdf” could not be opened. Acrobat cannot open files in the “Adobe PDF document” format.  I'm using Mac OS 10.6 and acrobat pro 8.2.5.  Any ideas how to fix would be appreciated.

The same thing happens with pdf files that are not zip files even if saved from Acrobat Pro on my computer.

  • Acrobat X won't open pdfs by clicking on link

After Acrobat X has one or two files already open in it, clicking on additional files, they fail to open.  I have to do a "file open" then search for the pdf file then click on it to get it to open.  This is time consuming, especially when the pdf is an attachment.  You have to go through the steps of saving the attachment someplace (maybe I don't want to save it after reading it) then open the file.
I also am having problems printing to a pdf.  Most of the time after saving, the pdf will open it so I can see what it looks like.  Other times it saves it and then I have to manually open Acrobat and then open the file.
These two problems have only begun occuring since installing Acrobat X.  Previous versions worked fine.

You are using either the built-in Mozilla PDF Viewer or the built-in Chrome PDF VIewer and have a LiveCycle Designer XFA form being viewed.  You need to configure the web browser accordingly.
XFA-based PDF forms on Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome
There are are probably registry entries available for setting this up in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry hive for both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, but I don't know them and have not seen them posted on any vendor site.  Then again, I haven't looked either.

  • Acrobat X won't open .pdfs on websites following recent auto update

I have Acrobat X Standard. It has worked properly for last 2 years. After receiving an auto update from Adobe last week, I can no longer open.pdf files on any website.  Everything seems to work fine if opening.pdf files that are on local drives.

    Hi allmanstudios,
Please run the Disk repair permissions and check.
You might also want to enable the root user account ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528 )and then check the performance.
Also make sure you have updated Acrobat to the latest patch i.e.v 10.1.8

    Hi
Can you share one such document with me? Is there something common in the way these documents were created? For example if all of them were created through Scanning or web capture...

  • Acrobat Reader won't open

I previously had a trial version of Acrobat Reader which expired. I then purchased it and have the following issues when I try to open it. Clicking "Reopen" does not do anything. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Jessicalang,
Please provide us the operating system details.
Did you try to license the trial version or simply reinstalled it again?
    Regards,

  • Why does Acrobat suddenly not work on my Mac (won't open pdf files from a web page), yet I can open them from my iPhone? Everything worked fine yesteray.

    Hello:
I have a Mac running OS 10.8.5 and I use Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader. Today for some reason, any time I try and access a pdf file from a web page, it won't open. I get a blank window. PDF files already on my computer open fine and I can create PDF files from Word docs, but I can't download or view any pdf file from any web page. Strangely, PDF files on web pages open just fine on my iPhone.
I checked that both my copy of Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader are up-to-date. They are.
I checked that my copy of Firefox is up-to-date. It is. And nothing changed with Firefox within the last 24 hours.
I am a humble computer end-user. I am baffled as to why this would suddenly not work. I have not changed any settings, etc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
I checked your instructions you sent and as far as I can tell all of my settings, etc for Firefox (plugin updates and preferences) are correct but I am having the same problem.
However, everything works in Safari. I don't have time to attempt to diagnose why Firefox no longer works. I will just switch to Safari.
    Many thanks.

  • I had one of your technicians re-install Acrobat Pro and it still won't open. My technician was Rajat and he was reading from a manual. He did not appear to be competent. He told the case has to be escalated

I had a technician, Rajat, from a Adobe re-install Acrobat Pro. It still won't open. He said the case has to be elevated. How do I get help from someone in the United States?

Not one of my technicians. We are just fellow users of the product.
But if you start from the top and explain your problem we have a fair track record of helping. Some questions for you
    - what version of Mac or Windows
    - what version of Acrobat Pro
    - what exactly happens when you try to open Acrobat Pro (error messages in full please)
    - whether it ever worked and what changed?

  • Acrobat won't open PDF made in ID CS5

    Hi There,
I recently upgraded to CS5 and am having trouble opening PDFs I make using the Export command in InDesign. It makes the PDF, but then Acrobat gives me the following error when I dbl clk the file to open it:
Acrobat could not open '2010 Supplement.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF.
This error message seems off the mark, as obviously it was not sent to me by email and was created out of the source application already.
Oddly, when I right click the PDF icon and use the Open With command, the file opens.

This is the same thing that is happening to me.
I spent a little while reading the other thread on this forum about PDF's not exporting from CS5 properly. It either enters an endless loop of background tasks or it never finishes and people end up having to force quit.
Mine is having issues but when I export a PDF, it actually creates the PDF icon but when I try to open it I get an error message telling me the file has been damaged or something. This is only happening to me with larger files, particular 20+ page files. It doesn't matter how long I wait to try to open the PDF, it just won't open.
I tried one suggestion from someone on the other thread that recommended you export from Adobe PDF presets, and create a new preset instead of using any existing ones, but that did not work either. I am working with a vendor that is requesting a PDF to print from instead of a packaged inDesign file and I cannot for the life of me get this file to save as a PDF. Even when I hold my mouse over the PDF icon that it creates, it reads "0 bytes" as the file size, even if I wait like half a day before trying to open it. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!
