  • Print to PDF (Acrobat9) from InDesign CS4

The Adobe PDF Conversion Settings will not allow me to use other settings than "standard.joboption". If I choose other settings it automatically jumps back to "standard. Anyone else got the same problem or maybe a solution?

The settings for the printer are in the printer properties, not setup (I think that is for the InDesign conversion - sorry, I don't have InDesign). When you say jumps back to standard, you mean in the resultant PDF? I assume that is what you mean and that suggests that in using the Adobe PDF printer, you never set the properties in the printer.
As for the PS issue, there is no need to print to file with the Adobe PDF printer. If you properly set the properties in the printer, just print to get the PDF. In the process a PS file is created and then sent to Distiller. Thus I have no idea what you are doing with the PS file creation.

  • Shockwave Flash object in Word2007 only converting to Image in PDF using Acrobat9 Pro

I set the Shockwave Flash object to embed: True & the video is  located locally, so why isn't Acrobat 9 Pro converting the word video to  pdf video.
    I've tried:
    - using 'Acrobat' section on Word ribbon to convert
    - saving Word file to Acrobat using word's 'save as' command
    - using Adobe printer within Word
    - opening the Word file from within Acrobat
Ive just reskimmed the Word 'advanced' & 'saving' options & I  can't see any extra checks to make.
    Thanks for this,
    Sem.

    hi thanks Bernd, 2 questions:
Can Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro do this (as well as Extended - from the product comparsion chart it seems so...)?
If the full version can, does the trial version also enable this - am not really looking forwards to paying for software & then finding still yet to be resolved..?
Thanks for this, others also interested on various sites will keep them informed.

  • Random IE7 freeze when opening a PDF from Acrobat 9.1 Pro

We are having problems specifically with a PC with viewing PDF files in IE 7.0.  Now when viewing PDF files
on our special inhouse loan funding site, the browser will freeze and eventually an error message will come up "Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close".
    What I tried so far...
-Ran the Adobe update , it installed Acrobat Professional 9.1.1
-Did the Reset under the Advanced tab in Internet Properties.
-Re-enabled the adobe related IE plugins.
-Deleted everything from the users %temp% file.
    -Rebooted PC
I've asked our web application vendor if we could use a much better browser such as Firefox, Chrome, or even try IE8, but they said that it's not supported.

Ok, well this is an specialized web based application.  I tried opening the PDF's in a new window on my Windows 7 PC and I got them to open without the infinite loop like on a Windows XP machine.
Because that causes an infinite loop on Windows XP, we need the PDF to display in browser, which causes a conflict sometimes between IE and Adobe dll files.
So I've checked out a file that doesn't normally crash the IE/Acrobat9.4 user and checked the properties.
    Application: LiquidOffice Form Designer
PDF Producer: DocuCom PDF Core Library
    PDF Version: 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
    File Size: 253.77 KB
Now here's the properties of a PDF that intermittently crashes IE:
Application: Acrobat PDFMaker 8.1 for Word
PDF Producer: Acrobat Distiller 8.1.0 (Windows)
    PDF Version: 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)
    File Size: 272.14 KB
Remember I said intermittently.  That's what's real difficult about the problem.  That same file might open 10 consecutive times before crashing.  OR it might crash on the first try.  When things aren't consistently broken it's very hard to troubleshoot the issue since there is no concrete evidence of a single underlying cause.  If it crashed every single time on that file, maybe we would say that its a corrupt file or there's an issue with the program that produced it.  That's not the case here.
Good idea as to looking at the version.  We could change the versions but we would need to open a request with the application developer, and updates to some of these forms takes weeks for them to integrate.

  • Trouble adding a custom PDF Portfolio layout to Acrobat 9

I asked this question over in the Acrobat Windows and Mac forums, but no luck. I think I was in the wrong place...anyways...apologies for cross-posting, but I'm stuck and up against a deadline!
I've developed a custom navigator for an Acrobat 9 Pro PDF Portfolio. However, I’m having trouble getting it to show up as a layout option when I open Acrobat to create a PDF portfolio. The basic layouts are there, but I can't find my layout or the "other layouts" category.
I've tried this in both Windows and Mac environments on two different computers. In Windows, I tried installing the .nav file in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat9\Navigators directory; on Mac, I tried both /Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_x86/Navigators/ and Applications/Acrobat 9 Pro/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/Navigators/ directories. I've shut down Acrobat and reopened the application, as well as restarted my computer. I still can't get the new navigator to show up.
Is there perhaps a plug-in or something from the SDK that I need to install into Acrobat first in order for my custom .nav to show up? I'm sure it's something simple and obvious that I'm overlooking - but I haven't been able to figure out what. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
    Jill

I thought so. I followed the instructions in a tutorial I saw on Acrobatusers.com. I updated the config.xml, navigator.xml, and the assets (arrows, background), then used WinZip to open an existing .nav file as an archive and swap out the files I changed. Maybe the mimetype file is getting compressed when I close WinZip? Is there another/better way to create the .nav file?

  • PDDocSaveWithParams does not change PDF version from 1.8 (Acrobat 9, Acrobat X) to 1.4

    Dear all,
this post seems similar to this discussion:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1160826#1160826
    but it is not.
Our customers prepare documents to be presented at regulatory  authorities, and it is required that these documents have PDF Version  1.4, are linearized, etc. In a plug-in we change the document properties accordingly. This used to work fine with Acrobat versions from 6 to 9. Then came Acrobat X.
We detected the problem with a document created with Acrobat PDFMaker 10.0 for Word: a very simple 1-page 3-lines document with no Acrobat X features.
When using Acrobat X, after calling PDDocSaveWithParams, the PDF version was not changed as required. (We check this calling PDDocGetVersion from the plugin after saving.)
Doing the same conversion with Acrobat 9 seemed to be OK: PDDocGetVersion reported PDF Version 1.4.
But when opening the converted document in Acrobat X, it still reported "PDF Version: 1.7 Extension Level 8 (Acrobat X.x)".
Opening it in a text editor showed that the header was "%PDF-1.4", but it still had "<</Extensions<</ADBE<</BaseVersion/1.7/ExtensionLevel 8>>>>..."
With Acrobat 8 and below, the version could not be downgraded, but this was reported correctly.
Downgrading the version directly via the "Optimize" function of Acrobat X worked.
I could not test Acrobat 9, since I have no Professional version available.
In Acrobat 8 Prof, I saw the message "This file appears to use a new format that this version of Acrobat does not support.", and the "Optimize" function was disabled.
Now I have the following questions:
    (1) Is it a known problem that PDDocSaveWithParams does not downgrade the version with Acrobat X ?
    (2) Is it a known problem that PDDocSaveWithParams does not downgrade correctly with Acrobat 9 ?
    (3) Is it a known problem that Acrobat9 wrongly reports the PDF Version of the document, in this case ?
    (4) Why is downgrading (or optimizing) disabled for Acrobat 8 and below ?
    Thank you !

Remember that as of PDF 1.4, the version number in the PDF header can be overridden via a /Version key in the /Catalog dictionary.  In addition, the presence of an /Extension dictionary (ISO 32000-1) will also override the header version.
The header version is JUST A HINT - it is NOT a guarantee of any sort.
Based on both of the above, neither of your "bugs" are bugs.
Acrobat 9 (and I assume X as well) are reporting correctly. If you have a PDF that you believe IS being reported incorrectly, please post!
If the Extensions dict is present, the Save command will NOT override it since it takes precedence.

  • PDF file has features that are not supported?!?

    Hi All,
I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to create a FORM and then I
submit the form to Acrobat.com. The problem is that when users
follow the emailed link to acrobat.com, they can't enter data into
the form on the website. They have to download it into their local
reader to fill out the form.
This is the actual error message I get:
"This PDF file has additional features that are only
supported in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader"
What am I missing here? I'm creating a form, in Adobe
Acrobat, that just has a few text fields and couple of checkboxes
on it - that's all there is to it.
Can someone tell me what the unsupported "additional
features" are so that I can disable them before submitting the
    document to Acrobat.com?

    Hello recurry,
    thanks for posting.
It does not look like you are missing anything really....The
workflow that you've laid out is the proper workflow for working
    with Forms and Acrobat9/Acrobat.com.
You cannot edit the pdfs using acrobat.com. Each user will
need to download it, and definitely need to if they want to input
    data to it.
Once they then submit their file, you should then see the
    updates.
    Thanks!
    Pete

  • PDF does not automatically open when the PDF is generated

    Here are my conditions:
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Abobe Acrobat9 Pro version 9.4.2
"View Adobe PDF results" is checked under Adobe PDF Printing Preferences/Adobe PDF Settings
Here is the problem I am facing:
When I print a simple text file under Notepad to Adobe PDF (listed under Devices and Printers), a PDF file is generated but it does not open the newly generated file as it ought to.
If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate them. I already went through the Repair Acrobat Installation routine. It didn't help.
    Thank you.

Bill was suggesting an alternative approach, making this the default setting in distiller. This is a preference settings in Distiller. I don't have Acrobat 9 on my Windows machine, but this is what is looks like on the Mac:
You want to check the View PDF when using Distiller Check box.

  • How to create a pdf file?

    Hi,
I would like to know how to create a pdf file programatically using APIs. I have acrobat8 or acrobat9 sdk but there no dll in sdk.
Do i need acrobat library? If yes then how to get the same?

    You need Adobe Acrobat.
The Acrobat SDK is automating/programming Acrobat (and sometimes Reader).

  • Acrobat 9 :only page 1 of a web page is converted to pdf, remaining pages come out as blanks

    I have not seen this question anywhere but thats right. If a web page is 5 pages long, and we print it on the Acrobat 9 printer we get the first page correctly after which the remaining 4 pages are blank white sheets. I got the same result when I first used non adobe pdf printers. When I connect to a "normal" printer eg, one that takes a power supply and cartridges, I can print all 5 pages correctly.My boyfriend has the same experience on his XP  while I am on Vista. Primopdf stopped working altogther so I switched  to Acrobat9 trial version which prints but only page1 comes out. How to correct the problem--nobody has been to tel me this far. Will be very grateful to anyone who gives me a suggestion / advice/information about this phenomenon;
    M Hersom

You can do such ordering with JavaScript. There is a recent post with a JavaScript for dealing with another aspect of page order that might provide what you want. You will have to search the forum for the post that was about 2 or 3 weeks ago as I recall.

  • Cannot import a set of comments in the PDF to a Word document

I'm desperately trying to import a set of comments in a PDF to a Word document and cannot do so in Acrobat9. Time is of the essence. I keep getting the following message:
When PDF was created, the content and it was not tagged.  exporting comments into a Word document will only work if the PDF is a tagged PDF.
To create a tagged PDF, you must select "change conversion settings" from the Adobe PDF menu, and check the box labeled "enable accessibility and reflow with tagged PDF."
I had no idea where to look to make this change--where is the Adobe PDF menu??? I tried doing research in the Adobe help information, and it directs me to go to: advanced > Accessibility > Add tags document. However when I click these menu items, the menu item "add tags to document" is gray and cannot be selected.
So now I've got a 1200-page draft filled with comments and I can't get them to the owner.  I'd appreciate anybody's help. I never had a problem importing comments in previous releases of Adobe Acrobat.

Just to add a bit more information:
We use a tool called the Arbortext Editor to write our source and use the transform tool to automatically create a PDF of the source.

  • Acrobat 9 Trying to open all my PDFs at once

I've been using Acrobat 9 everyday for a coupel years.  All of a sudden when I try to open a PDF Acrobat9 tries to open seemingly hundreds of PDFs until I get an error that a maximum number of files allowed to be opened has been reached.  Then My computer freezes up and I can't do anything.  I got around the issue by uninstalling and re-installing it, but I'd like to know how to prevent or stop this from happening in the future.

If, contrary to what your profile shows, you're running OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the shift key while launching the application.

  • Problems converting word in PDF, graphics

    I use Acrobat X Pro and Word 2003 SP3.
Photos change their size in the PDF.
If the photo-size was never changed in Word, the photos stay as they were, but if the size of an inserted photo was slightly changed in word, this photo is in the PDF in its "original size" (the size it had when it was imported). Of course I try not to change photo- or graphic-size in word, but I took over a big amount of word-docs with inserted graphics and photos and I do not have all the inserted photos to change their size an reimport them.
So maybe someone knows, how to change this habit. Or has a hint which settings in AcrobatX I could change. Or a hint whether I should leave Acrobat and better change settings in Word. Acrobat9 didn't do that sort of thing. So it's probably rather an AcrobatX-problem.
Either way I can't give this layout to my boss.
    Thx for help
    sparkle

Never had that problem. I suspect it is a word problem and you should be able to find out by printing from WORD to paper. If you want to play with a copy of the WORD file, right click on one of the graphics and select the Compress option. This will reduce the picture pixels to better fit the document. Then try a print. If this fixes the problem, then you have a potential fix and know it is a WORD issue most likely. You might consider updating WORD as well as Acrobat.

    Hey -
Thanks for taking the trouble to respond - appreciated. I did post the details you requested and sent you IM about that. Anyway, the problem
appears to have fixed itself as soon as I opened Acrobat9 Pro it
reconfigured itself and everything is working again!
