Acroread 9.3.2 unstable under Fedora 13

I hope Adobe reads this.
Acroread has been showing some strange and annoying problems since I started using Fedora 13. I have been using Fedora since core 6 and I have never encountered such problems before. I used to install a fresh version manually rather than using the one in the Adobe repo, but since F11 I yum install / update Acroread.
The problems:
- maximising the window will maximise the window but leave the body at the same size it was, adding a solid grey below and right of the body to fill up the window. Reloading the document (ctrl-R) works sometimes, mostly it doesn't. I can increase the size of the window and body by using the arrows at the window edges.
- opening another document (in a new tab) often causes the whole window to jump to another screen (I use nVidia twinview setup: one X screen, and so one desktop, divided over two monitors). Whether it does that depends on the document's settings regarding window size, and it happens with 9 out of 10 documents. I can drag the window back to where it came from but upon any reload while that particular document is open it will jump back. It looks like Acroread is desperate to stay on the monitor that I set as 'main'.
- when multiple tabs are open, the toolbar and tab bar may freeze up. I can no longer click on a tab to go to that document, I have to use the keyboard to go to Window (alt-W) -> the document (use arrow keys). If I wish to close a document, same story: use keyboard to navigate to 'close tab'. Clicking in the document body does not help.
- when Acroread is open, the Firefox plugin to read PDFs in the browser (Adobe Reader 9.3, Firefox 3.6) often crashes (but not always). Or the other way around...
Hope these issues are solved in an update in the very near future.
Cheers,
Nik

As I assumed the problem lies with the faces functionality, I tested what happened if I deleted faces.db and faces.db-journal from the iPhoto Library/Database/apdb folder. After that, I was able to open iPhoto without it crashing immediately. Of course the faces information was lost but I would not have cared. However, the crashes started again at after a few times I had opened iPhoto. It al least allowed me to check my projects and slideshows in order to produce albums or at least pdf documents of the things I wanted to keep.
I finally tried the iPhoto Library Manager and rebuilt my library. Although it produced 3 errors, all related to faces, this apparently did not have any negative consequences. iPhoto runs, I have my fotos and albums and even the faces information in my new library and have not had a crash since.
For anyone with similar problem: I can really recommend this solution because it creates a completely new library so you can get rid of errors in your old onelibrary. The rebuilt library includes all your fotos (including the modified versions) and albums. However, you loose your slideshows and projects.

I'm able to run LV 7.0 on kernel 2.6.3 without problems. However, I've
read that it could have trouble with the new threading system in 2.6.x.
LV 7.1 supposedly resolves potential threading issues. Still, you should
be able to at least open LV without any problems - from what I've seen so
    far.
I bet the problem you're seeing is more links to the Fedora 2 distibution.
Be careful with Fedora, they tend to use the most recent release of
everything. I had a similar discussion with someone less than a month
ago. Looked like there was a problem with the version of glibc libraries
in Fedora 2. I'm not sure what he did next, he never replied to the
group. I bet he went back to Fedora 1.
    Good luck!

I did a www.ask.com for "dbstart pam.d" and got the answer.
pam.d and SELINUX are very complex.

  • Migration Assistant seems unstable under Mavericks

Anybody know why Migration Assistant woudl be so unstable under Mavericks.  The app craoks on one of the two macbooks I'm trying to work with.

    SOLVED!
In case anyone stumbles upon this and is wondering what I did:
My hypothesis was correct - waaayyyy over thinking it.
I installed BOOT 2 DRIVE, swapping out the old BOOT 1 DRIVE. Then I renamed the new account to the same name as my previous account, users -> advanced options -> and pointed to the same home folder on USER DRIVE.
    DONE
Initially, I made a new account and screwed things up a bit - after reading the post of the above, understood that the new user account should have the same UID as the previous one....
Anyway, all good now - happy camper.

I recently upgraded a Linux Fedora Core 5 system to Fedora

Anyone have a clue about what might be going wrong?

I guess I should have worked a little harder before posting.
All I had to do was create the directory "classes" under the JRE
and now everything works fine. I don't have a clue why this would
    be the case. Anyone else?

  • RoboHelp 10 is very unstable under Win7

    Hi all,
using RH 10 under Win7 I noticed that the program is extremely unstable. It often crashes with only a very simple error message, telling that is searching for a solution but it never find one. Also the Windows Explorer crashes 10-20 times a day when working with RH. This is definitely linked to instaling the TCS4 on this system, and I have only been using RH and RSC yet.
Is thete anybody else with this issue, particularly the Explorer crash?
I found an older thread stating that RSC made Windows Explorer crash but this was related to RH7. Also there was no solution beyond deinstalling it.
    Regards,
    Robert

    Hi,
I've been using RH10 since the beta builds on several computers, virtual machines and operating systems. I have not experienced any of the problems you encounter. I did, however, not use RSC. So that would point to RSC being the problem.
Do you use a 32-bit system or a 64-bit system? And do you have the same configuration on an XP machine?
    Greet,
    Willam

  • Unstable! Why are my time capsules so damned unstable under Mountain Lion??

After installing Mountailn lion, two of my time capsules has become critically unstable (file access, not WIFI).
Anyone experiencing the same? Any fixes?

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4155485?tstart=0
I think apple have some issues with ML they are not fixing. TM in particular is a problem.
Is your issue TM or something else?? Look in the OS ML area as there are a lot of posts with issues.. I really doubt the TC went from being OK on earlier OS to suddenly unstable..

  • Has anyone successfully installed LAbView 8 under Fedora Core 5 (FC5) ?

I've been having difficulty installing LV 8 under FC5. Previously I have had great success with LV 7.1 under FC4. The error messages are very generic and are mostly of the "unable to find file" variety. Looking for any comments from the zone...

    Scott,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but LabVIEW not officially supported in FC. I tell you this because I don't want you to spend hours and hours on development only to find out at the 11th hour that stuff may not work. For a listing of supported distributions see this article. We also have a page dedicated to Linux found here. Let us know if you have futher questions.... and I agree with you... this LabVIEW 8 is a thing of beauty!

  • Tuxedo 8.1 on Fedora Core 1?

    Hi all,
I guess this is more a Linux question than Tuxedo one.
It is not important as I have dual boot and no current problems with XP Pro and

on glibc not 2.0 installer requires version 2.0 or something like that.
I know that the supported version of RedHat Linux is serveral versions back from
Fedora like RH 7.x or 8 or 9. Is there someway to convince an application that
the version of a *.so shared object is older than it is? Has anyone got Tuxedo
to run under Fedora Core 1?
Is there a quick and dirty work around hack?
Like I said its not too important... I'd just like to work in AIX and Linux environment
rather than a Windows XP Pro and AIX one.
But then I'll miss out on all those virii and random lock ups.
    Thanks,
    Regan Russell BSc.

I installed a complete copy of Fedora Core 4 and got the server running. But i ran into some problems. JRockit did not work, and some file functions in WLI did not work. Since we did not get any support from Bea because we were running Fedora we installed Red Hat Enterprise instead. If we'd figured out the file thing we would still be running on Fedora. We have not had any other problems.
    Cheers,
    Thomas

  • Ugly fonts in java under linux

I'm using JRE 1.5.0_03-fcs under Fedora Core 3. Some of the applications I run have really bad fonts, which look pixellated, and are difficult to read. When I asked on the Fedora mailing list, someone said that jre uses its own font rendering engine, instead of the one used by X window, and so none of my installed fonts will be recognised and used by jre.
So, my question is: how do I improve this situation? What can I do to make jre recognise the Microsoft and other fonts I have installed, and how do I make a certain application use a font of my choice, instead of the ugly default?
    Anand

    Hi,
Ok, I tried the setting you suggested, ie. -Dswing.aatext=true, but it made no difference. What does that option do?
I have created a screenshot of the application, if anyone is interested in seeing it. Perhaps it will explain better what the problem is.

  • "Internal server error" at console servlet (WL9.2 unden Fedora FC7)

    Hi,
I've just installed Bea Weblogic 9.2 under Fedora Linux FC7. I've launched the samples domain servers from quickstart.sh. They start OK, and also I can go to login page (http://localhost:7001/console), but when I type the user/password (weblogic/weblogic) and "internal server error" raises and the console shows the error bellow. Why? Why the class servlet/login/images/button_disabled_bg.gif is not found? Why says CLASS not found Servlet/login/images/button_disabled_bg.gif when it is a IMAGE?
PD: I also try to create new server domains using config.sh and they are created OK, however when I login the same error raises.
              Response will be appreciated.
              Thanks in advance.

    SOLVED!
The error was caused because of I was ussing the Konqueror web explorer and it is not supported by WL console.
The exception that raises on the console deceive me in the way that I thought the problem was on server side not in client side.

  • Firefox 305b under Fedora9 - Adobe Flash 10 working, but I cannot download ANY plugins, such as Flashblock.

I'm running nicely working Firefox 3.0b5 (Linux), under Fedora Rel. 9 Linux (sulphur), used "rpm" to install Flash 10.3r183 sucessfully. Flash works fine. Every webpage is a screaming storm of animated junk. On Win-boxes I have "Flashblock". All attempts to get "Flashblock" fail - downloading attempts from Firefox site do not respond. I know Flashblock 1.5.6 is available for Linux/Firefox, but cannot access it!!

You actually have the most Recent Flash player, so I'm not sure why you are getting a notice. Try to Reset Firefox [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]]

Oracle 11g1 under Fedora 9 has worked great since 11/2008
I upgraded to Fedora 10 and Oracle 11g1 worked great

I am looking into changes to PATH that may have been made in the upgrade.

  • R6850 Cyclone crash under 2d

Hello. My card is unstable in 2d mode, randomly (not regular) driver crashing when im browsing web (display driver stopped responding and recovered...), or watching movies but is very stable under stress (i can play games, running benchmarks without problems with a couple of hours). Sometimes is strange 1 second freeze. I opening a window, then mouse and screen freeze but after that computer is fine. First of all i updated bios from 1M2 to 1M3, by using MSI Live Update. New bios have higher 2d clocks (300/1100) but now stability is even worst, and card crashing more times, even if i set unofficial overclocking mode=2 in MSI Afterburner (forced 3d clocks). No difference what driver version i use (12.1, 12,2, 12.3, 12.4, 12.5 beta) I think its related to Aero Theme but if im buying not a cheapest card i want it to be stable. I disabled hardware flash acceleration. Also i checked CPU with 12 hours Prime 95, Intel Burn Test, memory checked with Memtest and Gold Memory. Hdd have good smart, and good benchmark score in Hd Tune Pro, no bad sector. PSU pass Power supply test in OCCt 1 hour. Everything is fine. Even gpu can pass some hours with Furmark without crashes. But as i said is unstable under Windows. No difference overclocked, or not overclocked. Never crashes under heavy stress. Its annoying.
