Secure ACS 1113 services not starting
ACS 4.0 box would not allow access by web. Connected to serial port, logged in and did show for status. Some services were stopped. One was in stopping and a couple were starting. I did a reboot and after an hour services are still in same status. Only service that is started is CSAgent. Any ideas?
Please re image the acs appliance using recovery CD that you should have received along with acs.

It's impossible to use acs 5.2 recovery DVD to cisco 1121 acs 5.1?
You mean that you can't donwload ACS 5.x DVD from cisco.com. I have added a link for you. This link will take you directly on the section from where you can download the recovery image. http://tools.cisco.com/squish/FCd77
File need to be downloaded:
ACS 5.1.0.44 FCS Official version
ACS_v5.1.0.44.iso
If you can't access the above link or you're getting some privilege related issues ( please post that in your next response) then you have 2 options:
1.] If you have a valid contract for ACS 5.x with cisco, open a TAC case so that they can publish the recovery DVD (.ISO image) on your registered id. Would not take much time.
2.] If you don't have a contract or its expired or TAC couldn't entitled you for this download then I would encourage you to contact your cisco accounts team as they may be able to help you.

ACS 5.1 with Outlook Web Access
Hi Everyone,
I have a weird issue which i am troubleshooting. I just wanted to see if anyone had a different view on this.....
I have an AD User, lets call them work\auser and there password just expired, so next logon to the domain they need to change there password.
They decide while at home to connect to Outlook Web Access, which authenticates to via ACS 5.1 to AD, when they try and connect they are denied with the following message in ACS -
24407 User authentication against Active Directory failed since user is required to change his password
: Authentication failed
ACS also says this as resolution -
Check the password expiry under Account options in the properties of an external database user. If the password is expired and the Enable Change Password is turned on in the Users and Identity Stores: External Identity Stores > Active Directory page, then the password will be changed.
Now, our OWA is not configured to allow password resets, so they must call in to have there password reset, or they can connect via VPN and our ASA allows them to change there password as configured under Identity Stores > Active Directory > Enable Password Change
This VPN password change is successful although OWA still will not work. The only way to fix it is to select passwsord does not expire within AD. Let it replicate, then de-select password does not expire and let it replicate.
This is pointing to a OWA issue in my opinion, although ACS is somehow involved, is it possible that ACS caches authentication, or because OWA does not allow password resets, it keeps responding with user required to change his password?
Any thoughts or different ways to look at this from a troubleshooting perspective would be greatly appreciated!
ThanksThe following is the procedure I am familiar with:
Resetting the Administrator Password
If you are not able to log in to the system due to loss of administrator password, you can use the ACS 5.1 Recovery DVD to reset the administrator password.
To reset the administrator password:
Step 1 Power up the appliance.
Step 2 Insert the ACS 5.1 Recovery DVD.
The console displays:
Welcome to Cisco Secure ACS 5.1 Recovery - CSACS 1121
To boot from hard disk press
Available boot options:
[1] Cisco Secure ACS 5.1 Installation (Keyboard/Monitor)
[2] Cisco Secure ACS 5.1 Installation (Serial Console)
[3] Reset Administrator Password (Keyboard/Monitor)
[4] Reset Administrator Password (Serial Console)
Boot from hard disk
Please enter boot option and press .
boot:
Step 3 To reset the administrator password, at the system prompt, enter 3 if you are using a keyboard and video monitor, or enter 4 if you are using a serial console port. -
Installing ACS 4.2 on an 1112 appliance
I have a 1112 applicance and I would like to install ACS 4.2. It has an older version of ACS on it and I really don't care if it gets destroyed. I am looking for what would be the best/easiest way to install ACS 4.2 and blow the other install of ACS way. Any assistance would help.
-DustinYou will need to use the ACS 4.2 recovery CD's to install that version on your 1112 appliance.

Can I default the Admin account of an ACS SE without a recovery CD
Hi - I have an ACS soultion engine 1111. I've been using it mess around with but now need to return it to stock so need to default it and get rid of the admin account. A TAC engineer has told me I can do this from the CLI but hasn't said exactly how.
Is it possible to return the device to factory defaults from the CLI or do I have to get hold of a recovery CD? The device is running 4.1
Many Thanks in advance
DomYou can not reset the configuration to default in the ACS SE. It's required to use the recovery CD to re-image the Appliance.
When using the commands or the recovery CD:
Attach a DB-9 to RJ-45 adapter to the serial port of the console.
Set your terminal emulation communication software to operate with the following settings:
â¢Baud = 115200
â¢Databits = 8
â¢Parity = N
â¢Stops = 1
â¢Flow control = None
â¢Terminal emulation type = ANSI
You can not set the password back to "setup":
ACS_Console> set admin
Enter old password:
Enter new account name: administrator
Enter new password:
Reenter new password:
Error: Password must be at least 6 characters long.
Does not contain all or part of the user's account name.
Contains characters from three of the following four categories:
* English upper case characters (A..Z)
* English lower case characters (a..z)
* Base 10 digits (0..9)
* Nonalphanumeric (For example, !,$#,)
If you provide the new guy the current user/password, he could reset it using these commands:
- To set the name of the ACS SE administrator, use the set admin command:
set admin [administratorname]
- To set the ACS SE administrator's password, use the set password command.
If not, he would also need the Recovery CD to reset the password. -

ACS Recovery for 1113 Appliance
I need to recover my password from the ACS 1113 Appliance. I do not have the Recovery CD is there a way that it can be downloaded from
Cisco.com. Also is there a default password for the ACS version 4.2. I access from the console but I dont know the login or passwordHi Janet,
For doing password recovery we need to have the recovery cd for 1113 Appliance.
The following are the steps for doing password recovery:-
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps5338/products_password_recovery09186a00801ece5f.shtml
If you do not have the recovery CD, I will recommend you to open a TAC case and they will publish recovery files for you, as it is not available on cisco.com for download. -
Cisco ACS 4.x Password Recovery
I inherited a ACS server, but I don't have the admin password. Does anyone know of a password recovery technique ?
If it is running acs ver 4.0 on windows, then it is not possible. With ACS v4.0 all the configurations have been shifted from registry to a database file thus increasing the security in ACS. So as of now there is no way to recover the lost Admin password in ACS v4.0, cause no setting is in registry, all settings are in SQL database.
So need to reimage it ...
If it is acs windows 3.3.4 or below then you need to make registry change,
login to ACS machine as administrator..
Go to start ===> run ===> regedit
Click on HKEYLOCAL machine ===> software ===> cisco
===>CiscoAAAv3.2===>CSAdmin===> and delete all administrative users defined by
right clicking into the administraor folder.
Now login locally to ACS and it should not prompt you for password.
For a best practice make sure that you have Allow automatic login is checked
This will not prompt you for password if you are logging in locally from ACS mahcine.
If it is appliance then you need to use recovery cd to reset admin password.

I'm an owner of a Cisco 1112 ACS, and I'm interested in obtaining the Recovery CD so I can reset and reload the software on the unit. I've found documentation on cisco.com stating that I'll need a "special access code" to download the burnable disc image (an ISO, presumably) of the Recovery CD.
I've contacted Cisco technical support, but they have been far from helpful as I purchased the device used and don't have a service contract. Is there no way to get a simply copy of the necessary software to make my ACS run again?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You would have received a code in the email or in the software installation CD. Click the link in the e-mail.The Downloads window is displayed. Type the Access Code provided in the e-mail into the Special Access Code section.
Note: The Access Code is case-sensitive. -
ACS 1111 update to 4.1 and Recovery CD's
Hi,
I have been asked to upgrade a ACS1111 box to use v4.1. It was running 3.2.3.11. (I normally do CiscoWorks support, but because of resource shortage here I am)
I should point out that this device has been removed from production to test this process, so thankfully it is not "live".
I read the notes and found that you cant upgrade directly, but have to upgrade to v3.3.3.11 first. After I finally got the upgrade across to the platform, I installed the Appliance Manager Software ACS v3.3.3.11. It completed, said it had to reboot, and that was the last I saw of it. It wouldnt respond in any way for over an hour. (Maybe I didnt wait long enough...)
As this wasnt in production, and there was nothing on it that needed backing up, the next step was to use the Recovery CD. Thought that we might as well use the 4.1 version we have, so we did.
At least the device now responds, although it doesn't recognise the NIC.
I have noticed that the Recovery CD has Cisco 1113 on it. I am thinking that this is the problem. The person who asked me to do the work said they were told that it would work for any of the 1111, 1112, and 1113 devices, but given the results I have, I do not think so!
Can someone please confirm for me so that if I need to use the specific 1111 disk, I can get that organised.
Regards
JeffHi Jeff,
Recovery Cd's are model specific so you need to reimage the ACS SE 1111 with its own recovery CD's.
Following are the files you need to ask TAC.
ACSse-v4.1.1.23-1111-recovery-K9.isoaa
ACSse-v4.1.1.23-1111-recovery-K9.isoab
ACSse-v4.1.1.23-1111-recovery-K9.isoac
