ACS 4.2.1 AND WINDOWS 7

HI all,
We are having some authentication issues with windows 7. The issue some windows 7 machine fails randomly. We are using ACS 4.2.1 MS-PEAP with machine authentication, every now and then a pc fails to authen. And the log always show that: External DB user invalid or bad password. And the user to whom the machine belongs always says that did not change their password! So the error message it clear, but as we are doing machine authentication can the machine change their password on their own? Or can group policy push a password change? Last week, I have the server guys to check for the log in the AD server, the log confirmed that was a password change prior the user try to authen.
Has any one had experienced this?
Thanks,
Jean Paul---

Hello Jean,
I am guessing that you are using 802.1x wireless.
This is a expected behaving because the AD force the computer to change his password every month and if the computer is not on the domain at that moment the computer won't take that change.
This is a Microsoft issue and unfortunately Cisco does not have any workaround for that.
Please see links below that explain this situation.

  • ACS 4.2 Appliance and Windows Agent

    Hi
Wonder if any one has an idea on this?
We have two ACS, 1 windows and 1 appliance.
The appliance is the primary ACS.
The other night all our wireless devices failed to authenticate.  We tracked this down to the Windows server with the ACS Agent on it for the appliance.
The error was failed to bind to domain server down, which found an AD server ran out of memory.
Becouse the wireless controllers could see the appliance still, it didn't fail over to the secondary.
I was wondering is there a configuration where if it fails on one ACS it trys authenticate on the second ACS?
Alternative is to replace the appliance with a windows box so no need to use the agent.
Answers on a post card :-)
    Cheers
    Craig

    Hi Craig,
Unfortunately, the authentication request will not fall on fallback if the primary is still up.
    Hope this helps.

  • ACS Se 4.2.1.15 patch 4 and Windows 2008 R2

Hi, Can anyone advise whether ACS Se and Remote Agent 4.2.1.15.4 supports Windows 2008 R2 please. Thank you.

    Hi,
ACS 4.2.1.15 does not support windows 2008 R2.
    ACS 5.2 supports the same.
It is a bug CSCtg12399 which is resolved on ACS 5.2.

  • ACS and Windows Domain / AD

    Hi All,
In my environment there are two Windows Domain - Doamin A and B. ACS is configured on member server in domain B and hence Windows Authentication for users in Domain B is working fine. However I'm unable to see domain A in Configure Domain List on ACS server in Windows Domain configuration menu.
Please note, there is one way trust between domain A and B with Domain A trusting Domain B.
Is there a way I can use the same instance of ACS to authenticate the users in Domain A as well? If YES, can you please guide me with some pointers - thanks.
I'm using ACS and Windows AD elements to authenticate users for SSL Web VPN on ASA 5540.
    Apprecaite quick help on this.
    -Satishcp

Unfortunatley we are not using the Cisco Secure ACS Appliances, rather its ACS Ver 3.3 running on Windows 2000 Server (member server in Domain B).
My guess Remote Agents for Windows / Solaris works with Appliances alone.

  • ACS and Windows 2000 user database communication port

Could my Windows 2000 SP4 + ACS v3.23 can install any new Windows 2000 service pack ?
I'm affraid to infect ACS Service.
So, I want to install firewall on this server to block malicious traffic.
However, my ACS used external user database Windows 2000 for authentication.
Who can tell me What protocols or port list they are communication?
I have to avoid these traffic on my firewall.

    Hi cheng
I think you can install any servie pack without problem and the SP4 is the latest one for WIN2000 and you server already has this SP
For your second question you need to specify many protocols according to your active directory config in this link you can find a list of this protocols and the best way is to make debug or logging or use a siniffer to know the exactly protocols flow between your ACS and AD server

  • ACS 3.2 for Windows and Windows Active Directory.

I'm using a member W2K server to run ACS 3.2.
I'm using ACS and Windows group mapping but my users always go into default group.
    Why?
    Thanks.
    Andrea.

I'm assuming your ACS \DEFAULT domain has NT Groups mapped to . Use a new Domain Configuration to add your AD and group mappings.
The group name in ACS must match exactly the same group in AD. ie. If your AD group name is "Engineering" , create a ACS group with exactly the same spelling. Also, avoid certain characters such as @#%&*() in the naming of groups, both in AD and ACS.
Hope this helps. let us know.

  • ACS 5.3 and Windows AD account lockout

Currently on 5.3.0.40.2 when a invalid password is attempted via TACACS or RADIUS to the AD identity store is locks the account out on the first failed attempt. The AD policy is lockout after three attempts. Is there a way to fix this issue so the account is not locked out with only one failed attempt? I see options for local password policys in ACS but nothing for the identity store. For what its worth this happened also with ACS 4.X deployment before we moved to ACS 5.3.
Just wanted to see if this is the expected behavior or if I should open a TAC case to see what is causing this.
    Thanks.

    Hi;
Well, we got it working. Not sure of the exact fix, but allow me to ramble, perhaps it will help someone else.
We think that a combinationof factors caused the problem. First, we had clock drift, and that resulted in clock skew messages in the logs like these:
Sep 20 18:06:03 ecb-acs1 adclient[8322]: INFO  base.adagent start: Problem connecting to domain controller (KDC refused skey: Clock skew too great), will try again later.
    and
ecb-acs1 adclient[1163]: WARN  base.bind.cache LDAP fetch CN=bubba,OU=staff,OU=edcenter,OU=edcenterarea,OU=episd,DC=episd,DC=org threw unexpected exception: SASL bind to ldap/[email protected] - GSSAPI Mechanism with Kerberos error ": Clock skew too great"
Somehow the ACS lost the ntp config, very disturbing, because I know that one of the first things I did was setup NTP. So I re-did the ntp config, confirmed the time was accurate. Still failed. Then, because I was annoyed by the log entries comning out in UTC, I did a clock timezone to set it to local. That made the logs come out in local time, but might have caused other problems (I saw another forum entry for that) so I set it back to UTC.
This begs the question - how to leave the timezone at UTC but fix the timestamps for the logs? This is easy on Cisco switches.
Various reboots of the ACS after deleting the object in AD did not fix the problem. During these reboots I continued to use the original userid and password to authenticate. At all times, the "test connection" button showed that the credentials were OK.
Because we had recently added our first Win2008 domain controller to our world (all ther other DCs are Win2k3), we started worrying about this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978055/en-us
But, after some checking, it seems as if we already had the fix applied.
Next, we created a dedicated user in AD for the ACS to use when authenticating. Deleted the ACS object, restarted the ACS, applied those new credentials. Still broken.
Our AD admin looked in various logs and found some things, here is his summary:
    ----------- from Danny --------
Checked the domain controller log under system.  Found the following:
While processing an AS request for target service krbtgt, the account ecb-acs1$ did not have a suitable key for generating a Kerberos ticket (the missing key has an ID of 1). The requested etypes : 17. The accounts available etypes : 23  -133  -128  3  1. Changing or resetting the password of ecb-acs1$ will generate a proper key.
    and
While processing an AS request for target service krbtgt, the account stcrye did not have a suitable key for generating a Kerberos ticket (the missing key has an ID of 2). The requested etypes : 18. The accounts available etypes : 23  -133  -128  3  1. Changing or resetting the password of stcrye will generate a proper key.
This may be related to either clock scew between acs and the domain or introducing server 2008 domain controllers into an existing server 2003 domain.
On a desperate hunch, after yet again deleting the ACS object in AD and reloading the ACS, I used the new dedicated ACS user account, but gave it a wrong password. Hit save, watched it fail. Then I put in the correct password, hit save, and it worked! Finall we have re-joined and are connected to the domain.
BUT ... I have now lost all confidence in ACS 5.3 . We are in the middle of a major rollout of WiFi clients using 802.1x authentitcation, replacing our previous pre-shared WPA setup. We are talking > 20,000 WiFi clients. If ACS <--> AD is not rock-solid, I need to try something else. Should we consider using LDAPS instead?

  • Best Wireless Auth. methods ACS 3.2(3) and AD

I am new with ACS and wirless authentication. Have just deployed my ACS 3.2 for Windows, and am trying to select the best methods of authentication for my invironment. I have determined my risk level to be low to medium. I would consider MAC based Auth. to be sufficient for users that don't support LEAP or similar Proto. I have a mixed OS base from Win98, 2000 and XP and MacOS 9.2 to MacOSX, I have AD setup for the external database, and it is working with ACS to allow Radius Auth. on my AP1100G Access Points. My questions are these.
1- What is the best practice for setting up the MAC address auth.? Do I creat a text list, ACS records, SQL database, or can it be done in AD in some way?
2- Is Leap the best Auth. Protocol considering my needs? Is there one that would be less difficult to set up but offer low to medium security I need.
3- I am a little confussed by the config that needs to exhist on the Aironet 1100 series AP. What would be a good document/s for the configuration of these devices?

I have no issues running Cisco ACS version 3.2 on Windows
    Server 2003 with SP2:
    1) create user test1 in MS Active Directory and put test1
in users group with dial-in access granted,
    3) Create a group called "LDAP". Actually I renamed
group name "group 1" to "LDAP".
    3) in ACS external user database configuration, I specified
domain "CCIE" as for this. unknow user policy is to use
    Windows Database configuration,
    4) Configure the database configuration in ACS to point
    to "CCIE" windows domain,
    5) setup the ACS to authenticate one of your Cisco devices
and log in using the MS windows account,
By the way, mgurwara, you are wrong. I run Cisco
ACS 3.2 on windows 2003 Enterprise Edition with Service
Pack 2. I am running it on a Dell Optiplex Gx240
(1.7 GHz with 512MB of RAM) and it is running fine.
I use it to manage about 20 cisco devices and
about 200 Wireless LEAP user(s). Furthermore, I am also
running ACS 4.1 on another identical hardware. It has
nothing to do with the hardware. I don't know where
    you get that information from.

  • Integration of Cisco ACS SE 4.2 and RSA SecurID Token Server

    Hi,
I would be very appreciated if anyone can share their experience. Thanks in advance.
    Issue:
I am trying to configure the ACE SE 4.2 to authenticate using RSA SecurID Token Server.
    Problems encountered:
Authentication failed. In the failed logged attempt the error "External Database not operational" was next to the login name.
In the auth.log, there was "External DB [SecurID.dll]: aceclnt.dll callback returned error [23]".
    Questions:
    1. Please kindly advise how I should resolve this problem.
    2. Also, is there any successful message once ACS get the sdconf.rec? Will the "Purge Node Secret" button be enabled?
    Troubleshooting steps I have done:
Below is the steps I took to setup the external DB.
    1. Verified sdconf.rec is not a garbage file using the Test authentication function in RSA client.
    2. FTP sdconf.rec in the external database configuration. (Had used Wireshark and confirm file transfered successfully.)
    2. Defined unknown user policy to check RSA SecurID Token Server to authenticate.
    Thank you.

I have NO experience with ACS SE 4.2 and
RSA SecurID Token Server BUT I have
experiences with Cisco ACS 4.1 running on
Windows 2003 SP2 Enterprise Edition and
    RSA SecurID Token Server.
All the troubleshoot you've done is correct.
In Windows 2003 running Cisco ACS, you can
install the test authentication RSA client
and that you can verify that the setup
is correct (by verifying that the sdconf.rec
    is not corrupted).
One thing I can think of is that when you
setup the ACS SE box, under external
    database, configure unknown user policy,
did you check it to tell how to define users
when they are not found in the ACS internal
database. Did you select RSA SecurID token
    server?
Other than that, from what I understand,
    you've done everything correctly.

  • Cisco Secure ACS with UCP assistance and enable password

I am running Cisco Secure ACS version 4.2 running on a
Standalone Windows 2003 Enterprise 2003with the lastest
windows service pack and update. Secure ACS is running
fine and I can authenticate with Cisco routers and
switches. The Windows 2003 server is also running Microsoft
IIS Server. In other words, the IIS server and Cisco
Secure ACS is running on the same windows 2003 server.
I am trying to get Cisco User-Changeable password to work
with Cisco Secure ACS. I followed the release notes lines
by lines and the work around provided below:
Also server require more privileges for the internal windows user that runs CSusercgi.exe.
The name of the windows user that runs UCP is IUSR_<machine_name>.
    Workaround steps:
    1) Install UCP 4 on a machine that runs IIS server.
    2) Open IIS manager
    3) Locate Default Web Site
    4) Double click on the virtual name 'securecgi-bin'
    5) Right click on CSusercgi.exe and choose Properties
    6) Choose 'File Security' tab
    7) Choose 'Edit' in 'Authentication and access control' area
    8) Change username from IUSR_<machine_name> to 'Administrator' and enter his
password (make sure that 'Integrated Windows authentication' is checked)
I still can NOT get this to work. I got this error:
    It says:
    The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed,
had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.
    Internet Information Services (IIS)
I modified everything in the Windows 2003 to be "ALLOWED" by
EVERYONE. In other words, there are NO security on the windows 2003.
    It is still NOT working.
The other question I have is that can Cisco UCP allow user
    to change his/her enable password?
    Can someone help? Thanks.

    Yes bastien,
    Thank you.
But one thing more i want to know that in its Redundant AAA server, when i try to open IIS 6.0 window 2003; it prompts for Username and Password.
I've given it several time; also going through Administrator account with administrative credentials but it always failed.
    Any suggestions/solution/?
This time many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
This error means that your DC does not support the encryption method the ACS wants to use.
Usually this happens when you run 2008 Server with 2003 functionality...
You will need to run ktpass.exe according to the DC you are running:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/appliance/configuration_guide/48/cas/s_adsso.html#wp1277452.
For Windows 2008 Server at 2003 Server functional level:
ktpass -princ newadsso/[adserver.][email protected] -mapuser newadsso -pass
    PasswordText -out c:\newadsso.keytab -ptype KRB5_NT_PRINCIPAL

  • Problem with Sessions and window.open

    Hi,
    Hi everyone,
    Help Please!!!
I am working with Sevlet session objects and HTML forms and windows. I have an HTML form for the user to supply a username and password. Once the user clicks submit I need to open another browser window that has no toolbar, no location, no status bar, etc. The user should also be able to go back to that login screen and login again and open a 2nd, 3rd, etc. instance of the application. My problem is that each application is being asigned the same sessionId. I believe it is being asigned to the main login window and thus to the other child windows it opens. Is there a way to work around this? Do I need to make the user open another browser window to login? I need to be able to let the user open multiple instances of the application with unique session ids for each.
Any insight is GREATLY appreciated on this topic. Anything you can tell me about sessions (Java), IE, window.open would help greatly!
    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!
    MA

To achieve this, you must introduce another level of
abstraction to the Servlet specifications. When you
work with JSP/Servlets you use mostly the HttpSession
to handle user related tasks, and the aplication
context, for things that are common to all users. But
inside the HttpSession scope, you want to create
containers that have 'smaller' scope and are uniquely
    identified.
A ipothetical scenario :Let's say that you must have
multiple connections to several databases, on each
database user rights beeing diferrent, and you must be
able to track user actions globaly, and eventualy
capture a 'Close Application event' and close all db.
    connections.
    1. when the user first accesses the login frame create
the HttpSession. In the HttpSession object, store a
Hastable (let's call it 'ConnectionTable'). Each
object in the Hashtable must identify uniqely a
database connection. Now, to create unique identifiers
ids, make the keys in the hashtable java.lang.Long
    objects, created using System.getCurrentTimeMillis().
This guaranties there will be no possible confusion.
From each new open window, on each request to the
server, along with the usefull parameters, send the
connection identifier. When proccessing the request,
select the object from the Hastable wich corresponds
    to the ID.
    2. Now, the values in the ConnectionTable, must act as
the containers that I mentioned in the first
paragraph. The simplest way to do this is to have
again a Hashtable derived class to do the job, wich
exploses methods similar to HttpSession: setAttibute (
Object key, Object value) and getAttibute ( Object
key, Object value). This container may use internally
a Hashtable to store object, and explose only the
getAttribute and setAttribute methods for clarity. Any
way, this is a problem of implementation. Let's call
    this class CustomSession.
    Now, a textual activity diagram:
1 user accesses the main page, you start a new
HttpSession; In the HttpSession object, store the
    ConnectionTable object.
    2. the user enters the userID and pwd and adatabase
name, and a new window is opened. Let's supose the
    data entered is valid.
    3. when you process the login data, you create a new
CustomSession object. you put in it whatever you would
put in your HttpSession. You generate a unique
    identifier using System.CurrentTimeMillis(). Put the
CustomSession object in the ConnectionTable, using the
generated id as key. Send the response.
    ..... later on .....
    100. the user asks for a particular action to be

    NicNic,
Very slick idea. I think that it could work and it seems that there would be not security issues because the id that you would store on the client side is the Unique Identifier and not the actual Session Id. Do you forsee any security issues for this implementation?

  • How can I make an icon that links to a webpage that works with Mac and Windows??

    Hi!
I burn CDs with my photos and send them to clients.   Besides the photos folder, I would like to include a file (similar to the .webloc files on the Mac Desktop) that can be clicked and it will be linked to my website - it will open up a browser window and go to my website .      Is it posssible to make one of these icons that works with both Macs and Windows machines?  Thanks!

    Now it works!  Thanks, Denico!
The reason I saved to text:   The first time I followed your instructions, it did not work.   I tried to figure out what I did wrong and saw that you wrote to "save as plain text."   I did not know what this means and there was no option available to save a plain text.  So I looked around and saw "save as stationery" and I guessed that maybe that was what you meant.   And after that, it worked!  But the next thing you know, the icons started duplicating themselves.
I guess I had made a different mistake in the beginning and I fixed it without knowing what it is.
    Thanks for clearing that up.
But just one question.  WHY does saving as "stationery" make an icon duplicate itself?

  • Is Verizon going to acknowlege the problems with FIOS and Windows Vista

For months now, I have been reading the numerous problems Fios internet customers are having with Fios internet/Actiontech Router and Windows Vista and there has been no acknowledgement by Verizon of this current major issue.
I have also experienced the exact same issue for months now since I switched to Verizon FIOS internet. Previously I had Comcast HSI using my Windows Vista laptop.  I had their service for over a year and I NEVER has a problem with the Windows Vista globe icon disappearing and loosing internet connection. The Globe always stayed on and never went away and I never lost connection when I had Comcast
I had Verizon FIOS installed last September with my Windows Vista computer and my wireless internet connection started to drop from day 1 and it has been a daily occurrence for over 5 months now.  It has gotten so bad, I have had to hardwire my laptop to to be able to use the internet uninterrupted.
This is what daily scenario is:
When I turn on my laptop(with Windows Vista, I can initially get full internet access(with the globe on and it says "Local and internet). After about 10 minutes or less, the globe switches to "local only" and I can still get  internet access.  After another 5 or so minutes, a large X covers the globe and I lose internet connection entirely. The actiontech router wireless signal is no longer listed as one of the wireless networks.  The only way for me to regain internet access is either to restart my laptop or reboot the actiontech router.
Numeorus posts here, over by DSL forums(Broadband Reports),Microsoft's website and a few othere websites detail this issue.
I am extremely shocked and surprised that Verizon has not tried to fix this issue by working with both the makers of the Actiontech Router as well as Microsoft to find out what the problem is and how to fix it.
I would just like to reiterate I strongly believe this is primarily a FIOS internet issue since I previously had Comcast HSI for over a year with the same Windows Vista laptop and I NEVER had that problem. Also,  I can connect to my neighbors wireless connection(she uses Comcast HSI) and when I do, the globe stay on all the time on my computer and the internet does not lose connection.
I know that there are a couple of Verizon employees here. Please tell the higher ups who handle FIOS internet that this is a major issue that needs to be resolved as soon as possible.
P.S: Please don't tell me to go by my own router because then, I will have to deal with the issues of setting it up to work with Fios TV and the related VOD, widgets, remote DVR compatability issues to deal with. I don't think I can deal with the additional headaches.

FIOS is short for fiber optics.  fiber optics is different technology than DSL.
With that said, if you search the Microsoft databases for vista issues with fiber optics, (CURRENTLY THERE IS ONLY ONE PROVIDER OF FIBER TO THE HOUSE, that being Verizon, so yes you can also search Vista issues with verizon and\or fios) and you will find that Microsoft already acknowledges this issue with their software.  AND they offer you a fix.

  • IPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 and Windows 7 x64 USB Driver Issues

Been pulling my hair out with this one for the last week or so and haven't had any luck finding anything on the forums or the web regarding a solution short of a full reinstall of Windows 7 which I am not prepared to do at this time; so hoping someone here can shine some light on this for me
I have a iPhone 5 that is updated to iOS 6.1.4 and a recently built Windows 7 64-bit machine. All of my other USB devices function fine (keyboard, mouse, Xbox 360 wireless receiver for Windows, and a Seagate 2TB external USB drive). I've downloaded the most recent version of iTunes, installed successfully and then attempt to plug in my phone to sync. I get the standard Windows *ding* that I've attached a device and 1 of 2 things happens (I haven't been able to determine what causes one reaction to happen versus the other): Windows will successfully install the 'Apple USB Mobile Device Driver' successfully and it will appear under my USB devices in Device Manager. However - iTunes will not recognize the phone and I cannot see it in Windows either. In the 'Devices and Printers' snap-in my iPhone will appear under 'Unspecified Devices' as the 'Apple USB Mobile Device'. The iTunes diagnostics fail to find a connected device so the tests fail. As soon as I unplug the device, the strangest thing happens: Windows will start trying to install a device driver and after a few seconds it will fail stating that the "MTP Device Driver" installation failed because the device was unplugged. iTunes also thrown an error "iTunes cannot connect to this iPhone" throwing error code 0XE8000065 (I've also seen error code 0XE8000085 as well)
After some finagling, I've managed to get Windows to recognize the device under 'Portable Devices' in Device Manager as an "MTP USB Device" using the generic driver. At this point, I've tried updating the driver and manually specifying the Apple USB driver located in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Drivers which updates successfully but then changes the device to "Apple USB Mobile Device" and moves it under the USB Devices in Device Manager; and Windows nor iTunes can see it even still.
I've tried removing iTunes several times and ensuring that all remnants of the installation are gone (registry and folders on the installation drive) and have disconnected all my USB devices short of the keyboard and mouse and still I get the same results. At this point, I'm afraid that a re-install of Windows is going to be the solution; but it's a drastic one (I have a SSD drive where Windows is installed along with all of my games for faster load times/better performance and do not want to have to redownload\reinstall all of them) and I'm not prepared to undertake it at this time, which is why I'm posting here
I've used a utility called USBDeview that sees my phone is connected - so I know from a functional standpoint that my USB ports are good and working. I also know the cable is good too - my daughter's PC (Windows 7 32-bit with NO iTunes) immediately sees the device when I plug it in, installs the drivers, recognizes it as an iPhone and I can then see/browse it in Windows Explorer like I would normally expect. My work PC (Windows 7 64bit, NO iTunes) sees the device just fine as well. I would immensely appreciate anyone that has seen this issue or has any additional solutions I can try.
It's also worth mentioning that I've never used Kapersky antivirus so the UPPERFILTERS value in the registry that I've seen as a solution on some forums is not present on my machine. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus (no flaming please lol - it meets my needs and is extremely lightweight, which is why I'm using it on a gaming rig) and it's not indicating any issues. I've also tried running iTunes as an administrator (even though my account is a local admin on the machine) and that does not have any effect either.
If there is anything I left out, please let me know; and I thank you in advance!

Of course not.  Didn't you bother to read the TOU of this forum?  This is a USER TO USER technical support forum.  Apple doesn't post here.
