ACS 5.1 install on VMWare Workstation

Trying to install ACS 5.1 on VMWare Workstation 6.5 getting acs traceback kickstart error, originally setup a SCSI 650GB drive which CentOS didn't recognize, changed drive to IDE but getting different error now.
speciified disk sda in partition command which does not exist

Jason,
I just ran into the same issue you're experiencing. After playing around, i found out that when creating the VM, if you choose the SCSI disk (with > 60GB capacity, no need to allocate space) and the LSI Logic adaptor (not Buslogic!) it works perfectly.

  • ACS 5.2 install on Vmware - no managment over https

I installed ACS 5.2 on Wmware. Everything seemed to install correctly.
I can access the server with SSH over the network. The server however
doesn´t seem to have https mangagment open.
For example show ports gives only port 22 (ssh)
and 111 for udp and tcp.
I have restarted everything. But reload on the CLI and
power on/off the VMware host but no luck.
I see people have this problem but I haven´t seen any answers yet.

    Hello,
Can you access the ACS CLI and execute "show application status acs"? Is the process "management" on "running" state or is it on "not monitored"?
Also, have you complied with the minimun requirements for ACS 5.2 installation on a VMWare?

    ./VMware-Workstation-e.x.p-99530.x86_64.bundle --console --custom
AS ROOT like loupy, but I get:
    bash:  ./VMware-Workstation-e.x.p-99530.x86_64.bundle: Permission denied
I also tried it without the arguments, still denied.

    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,

Note - this is now fixed. I followed the steps here to install ACS 5.0 on VMware Workstation 7:
    http://blog.sudonetworks.com/2010/10/installing-cisco-acs-52-on-a-laptop.html

To log in to ACS server and access the CLI, use an SSH secure shell client or the console port.

  • Not able to install server 2012 R2 on a VMware Workstation 10 .

    Dear Team,
    Thanks in advance.
I am facing an issue when installing server 2012 R2 on a VMware Workstation 10 .
This is the error message i get ''windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms. make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation.''
i have tried changing the initial install option of OS  to ''other''. But still its the same.
Finally i have installed it without adding the OS disk in the initial setup. But the problem here is that its asking me activation key.
if you have the activation key for 180 days please let me know.

I have the same problem here.
With VMWare Workstation 10, downloading and using the Windows 2012 R2 ISO evaluation to test.
Shortly after booting up with the ISO, it complains about this message:  ''windows cannot find the microsoft software
license terms. make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation.''
BUT, if you uninstall VMWare Workstation 10 and install VMWare Workstation 9, no problem.
Something wrong with either VMWare Workstation 10 or Windows 2012 R2.

You want to install AD on an Internet Server?
According to your description your server has one public IP-address and
no internal IP-address and you want to install AD on this Internet
    server?? Is that correct??
Can you tell us the intended use of this server. Do you want to host
services on this server, which need AD authentication?
If you have a second NIC and your DC is on another local machine I
would not expose your local AD on an public accessible server. If this
server shall become a DC it should not have more than one IP-address.
If you want to access data on this server via Internet securely I would
recommend a VPN solution - preferably not running on the server itself
but on a separate firewall between the server and the internet. In this
case I would have no see a big security problem running AD on this
    server.

  • Lot of troubles (impossible) installing Solaris 10 on VMware Workstation 6

Hi, i'm experiencing troubles trying to install Solaris 10 x_86 (the last release) on VMware Workstation 6.
During the creation of the virtual machine I selected Solaris 64bit (I'm running an Intel Core2Duo CPU), selected the first ISO image and boot up the virtual machine. The installation of the first cd went just fine.
During the installation of the second cd, at a certain percent (sometimes ~50%, or later) the virtual machine reboots: I select the first choice on grub menu, but Solaris tolds me that something about the root repository (I don't remember well) is out of sync, and suggest me to reboot in failsafe mode and repair it; I did it and reboot...Doing this way I installed the second cd, but for the third (it happened the same -reboot- problem) it didn't work:
after fixed the repository in failsafe mode, and after reboot it doesn't start the installer, and shows this message:
    http://img469.imageshack.us/my.php?image=solarishangsoi3.png
Please help me! I don't really know where/what I'm doing wrong...
Thanks really a lot for any help.
    Regards
    Gabriele

Simply Great, I had to Reboot the OS and I went to Failsafe mode where it went to single user mode and ask to update boot_archive, that worked.
When i Shutdown and Rebooted the System i could see system booting nicely and then it gave me bunch of Errors.
I think i will go and Do a Fresh Install again :(

  • Installing vmware-workstation-6.5.3 with kernel26-2.6.32 walkthrough

I changed my Fedora 10 laptop to Archlinux 2 weeks ago (and I'm loving it).
So, I also had to move my vmware-workstation-6.5.3 to my new distro, and also all my virtual machines.
I followed  the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installing_VMware) but until I had a working vmware, I had to do something different from the instructions.
So, I post here my walkthrough, if someone needs it.
    Vmware package and kernel:
    - VMware-Workstation-6.5.3-185404.i386.bundle.
    - kernel26-2.6.32.1-1
    1. As root cd to the directory where is VMware-Workstation and follow these steps:
    [root@hp]# mkdir -p /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/{rc{0,1,2,3,4,5,6}.d,init.d}
    [root@hp]# export VMWARE_SKIP_MODULES=true
    [root@hp]# sh VMware-Workstation-6.5.3-185404.i386.bundle --console --custom
    2. Read and accept EULA and go on.
    3. Then press enter to all answers except "System service runlevels", where you must enter /etc/rc.d/vmware/, like in the example:
    Do you agree? [yes/no]: yes
System path prefix.  Please note that choosing a path other than /usr
may result in missing icons, application launchers, and other desktop
    integrations [/usr]:
    System lib directory [/usr/lib]:
    Architecture-independent files [/usr/share]:
    User level binaries [/usr/bin]:
    Super user level binaries [/usr/sbin]:
    Documentation [/usr/share/doc]:
    Manual pages [/usr/share/man]:
    Header files [/usr/include]:
    System configuration files [/etc]:
    System service runlevels: /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/       <<--------------------------------
    System service scripts [/etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d]:
Path to Eclipse directory for use with Integrated Virtual Debugger
    (optional):
The product is ready to be installed.  Press enter to begin
    installation or Ctrl-C to cancel.
    4. Now exit from root and become normal user again. Then run vmware command.
    [memyselfandi@hp]$ vmware
It asks to compile modules and you must press de "_Install" button.
After some ERROR messages it asks you the root passord and then it starts to compile modules.
    Finally it starts vmware.
    5. You must close it again and do this as root:
    [root@hp]# ln -s /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d/vmware /etc/rc.d/vmware
    6. Then with your favorite editor, include "vmware" to DAEMONS in /etc/rc.conf to allow vmware modules to load while computer boots:
    # /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng ... ... vmware)
    7. You must substitute /sbin/lsmod with /bin/lsmod in the file /etc/rc.d/vmware/init.d/vmware with your favorite editor or use this command instead:
    [root@hp]# sed -i 's/\/sbin\/lsmod/\/bin\/lsmod/g' /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d/vmware
    8. Restart vmware services and load modules with this command:
    [root@hp]# /etc/rc.d/vmware restart
    9. There is a common mouse problem (it loses focus outside VGA area 640x480) because of GTK+ new version. To avoid this issue, add this line to the end of "/etc/vmware/bootstrap":
    # /etc/vmware/bootstrap
    export VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=yes
    10. Now you can  start as normal user:
    [memyselfandi@hp]$ vmware
Or in the gnome menu "System Tools" --> "VMware Workstation"
I didn't experiment any problems with keycodes. I don't know, but they seem to be solved in 6.5.3 version(?)
    Hope this help someone!

My vmware install logs don't really help here but they do show where it trails off into oblivion:

Er... is there a chance your network is not properly configured? Can you please shed some light on the details of your network?
By the way, I doubt that CUCM would ever be able to start up in VMWare Workstation.
