ACS 5.2 Restore

Hi Guys.
I'm trying to restore a backup on ACS 5.2 (createad on the same 5.2 ACS system) and I'm receiving the error "failure ocurred during request".
Please see attached file.
Any idea?

Hmm, can you tell me:
1. What type of repository are you using?
2. How large is your backup file
3. Try clearing the local logs and try restore again

Since we had no access to ACS windows server. We tried to take backup  from csutil but it gave schemalayer error message. As we have AV  stopped, logs files deleted from the directory, killed the stuck  services from the task manager and restarted the server. If it still not  allowing you to restart the services, most likely you need to take  backup, uninstall the ACS server and reinstall the same version of ACS  followed by restore.

  • ACS Replication Windows and Appliance

We have a situation where two existing 3.2.1 ACS servers are replicated. The boxes is to be replaced by ACS appliances running 3.3.2. The problem is however that we cannot replicate between different versions.
We are planning on upgrading the master server to 3.3.2, then removing the replicated host, installing the ACS applicance in its place and starting the replication again.
Anyone done this? Will it work, WIN -> ACSAppliance?
Also, is there a way the backup file on the WIN ACS can be restored to a ACSAppliance? Might be a cleaner solution to restore the backups of both boxes into the ACS appliance, that way we do not potentialy damage the live environment?
    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

You can have database replication running between different versions, but the versions can only vary in minor versions, not major versions. For instance, you can replicate between a 3.2.2 and a 3.2.3 version, but you could not replicate between 3.2.x and 3.3.x.

  • Back up and restore DB on ACS v4.2

    Hi Guys,
I have a ACS v3.0 running and planning to have another one as secondary, here is the question --> how could I restore the ACS's v3.0 DB on the ACS v4.2 !!

You need to follow this upgrade path,
    3.0.4--->3.3.3---->4.1.1--->4.2
During each upgrade it will ask " if you want to keep existing database "..make sure to enable that, else it will remove your existing acs database.
You will need all these software to upgrade it.

The ACS Backup feature provides the option to back up your user and group databases, and your ACS system configuration information to a file on the local hard drive. You can manually back up the ACS system. You can also establish automated backups that occur at regular intervals, or at selected days of the week and times. Maintaining backup files can minimize downtime if system information becomes corrupt or is misconfigured. We recommend copying the files to the hard drive on another system in case the hardware fails on the primary system.

  • ACS 5.5 (3495) Backup / restore

Having issues with backup & restore on ACS 5.5 running on 3495 platform.
Incremental backups are scheduled daily at 2 AM.  Full backup is scheduled weekly at 6 AM.  Data Purge is scheduled for 4 AM (by the system - unable to change this value).
Log Collector has crashed a couple of times when a full backup is attempted (manual or automated).
TAC had us move database file to a repository and then clean the database.  After the clean, incremental backups sometimes run at 2 AM as scheduled and then at 6 AM.  No idea why.
The data purge job has failed.  I don't think it's running any more.
Incremental backup failed at 6 AM yesterday (1/21/15) because "another backup or restore was already in progress".  Incremental backup wasn't supposed to run at 6 AM.  Apparently, this caused the system to turn scheduled backups "off", so now backups aren't running at all.
Has anyone else experienced these issues?  Is there a known fix?

Took me a while to get the time to respond here.....
acs backup performs a backup of the ACS data so that when need to recover a machine the following process can be perforned:
    - reimage the box
    - restore the ACS data
This ensures the minimum data size is saved to recover the box
acs backup saves the following data:
    - ADE-OS configuration data (all node types)
    - certificate private key
    - ACS configration data (if node is primary)
    - M&T data (if node is M&T node)
If there is a single standalone ACS node performing all functions, data of all types will be saved
I am less familiar with the  "backup" command but I think is application agnostic and will just perform a full backup of the box
Note that additional backup related options are available from the GUI
    - From the deployment operations there is option to backup. On primary operations are "ACS Configuration Backup" or " ADE-OS and ACS Configuration Backup". On secondary instance only option is ADE-OS configuration data.
There are also options to backup M&T data from the GUI. See: "
    Monitoring Configuration > ... >
    System Operations >
    Data Management >
Removal and Backup". Due to the large volumes of data involved there is also an option to use an Incremental backup mechanism (this option is not available from the CLI)

  • Restoring a CSACS Backup from ACS SE to ACS Windows

It is possible to take a backup from CSACS running on a Solution Engine (FTP'd off-box by the backup process) and restore it to a CSACS on Windows (assuming the ACS software, build, and patch level is same?

    Hi,
Yes, if the version is the same you can import the .dmp file into the ACS Windows machine.
Of course, some menus will not exist (the ones specific to SE).

  • ACS 5.3 Default Backup Password

When doing a backup on any of the ACS 5.x appliances by default the backup is encrypted with PGP. What password is used for that? Is it configurable?

It is not configurable and that information wasnt made public. However, when you restore it should be able to decrypt it just fine.
You can try opening a TAC case but when I was in TAC wasnt able to find that key either.

  • ACS 5.3 - Backups fail to TFTP, work to DISK

    Hi All,
I'm configuring ACS for the first time and the config is complete and working, except backups of the view database. I've created a TFTP repositiory and if I perform a manual backup or wait for a scheduled one to occur it fails. I do get a .tar.gpg file in the TFTP server (but can not restore from it as it's not listed in "Restore" as a backup).
It works fine if I create and use a local disk repository. I get a .tar.gpg but also a catalog.xml and repolock.cfg file (which I don't in TFTP). Looking at the logs on the TFTP server I can see it tries repeatedly to read the catalog.xml file but fails:
Read request for file <DB/catalog.xml>. Mode netascii [15/07 16:05:52.167]
File <DB\catalog.xml> : error 2 in system call CreateFile The system cannot find the file specified. [15/07 16:05:52.167]
That seems correct, the file doesn't exist. However it never seems to try and create it.
(I've created 4 or 5 TFTP repositories testing this, all behave the same)
    Any ideas?
    Paul

    Paul,
TFTP will not work because the protocol doesnt support directory listing, what the ACS is trying to do is determine if a backup is currently running by looking into the repolock.cfg file. It also tries to see the contents of the catalog.xml file so that when a incremental backup is triggered it will add a line of the first full backup followed by all the incremental backups. Your best bet is to use ftp as the backup and this will fix the issue you are facing.

  • ACS 5.3 - How to copy DB to a new instance of ACS 5.3

I need to copy an existing ACS 5.3 database to another instance of ACS 5.3 that I've deployed.  I can't set up a primary/secondary between these two and do the deed via replication.  So it's going to have to be a export/import or a backup/restore.  I've been searching for days for a solution to what surely is a trivial task.
Does anyone have any hints on how to do this?  Either the CLI or the GUI is fine with me.  I feel like an idiot...
    -drh

    Hello,
You are not idiot at all. This is a problem that I was facing myself (not exact issue but very similar).
Now, I think there is no supported way to move the DB itself in cisco docs. There is a way where you can copy the DB files via FTP from the old machine and restore them in the new machine. That will need a root patch to have a root access to both boxes.
If you are authorized to open TAC cases then please directly do because they know better about the steps.
But I am thinking about one thing, You can build your new ACS servers from scratsh and put them up on the network then remove the old machine. Keep the old machine up without putting it on the network so that you can access it the time you need.
Let the new DB grow on the new server and after a few months you can just remove the old machine because you don't want that DB anymore (if you are keeping the DB on the old machine and it was operational the old data will be deleted anyway as per your retention period you configure on the ACS).
So, I suggest (which is easier for you of possible) to keep the old machine running with access to the DB and install new servers and keep their own DB. After the retention period passes and you don't want the old data anymore just remove the machine.
one other way (did not try it at all) is to take a full view DB backup from old machine and then configure same repository on the new machine. The full backup file may appear on the "Resotre" page where you can choose it and restore (I am not sure if old and new machines need to be with same hostname for the file to appear. you try it anyway it may work).

  • ACS 5.3 View Database Backup hanging

In ACS 5.3 .0.40 the backup of the view database stopped working.
There seems that a backup stucked in progress.
Incremental backup is configured, I cannot edit the configuration in
"Monitoring Configuration -> Data management -> Removal and Backup" - the browser times out.
If I want to reload the ACS I get the this message
WARNING: A backup or restore is currently in progress! Continue with reload? (yes/no) [yes] ?
Why does backup of the view database not work ???
    regards,
    herbert

    Hello Herbert,
I have seen issues with ACS View backups getting stucked if Incremental Backup is not configured. This might not be the case as you have stated that Incremental Backup is configured on your ACS.
At this point, the best approach would be to collect the support bundle including the day the ACS View backup was triggered and open a TAC case in order to deeper investigate the issue.
It would be important to specify if the services of the ACS have been restarted already or not. I would recommend to leave it as it is until collecting the support logs.
NOTE: Also, a possible reason for this issue to occur is that the ACS was not able to complete a previous backup and the /opt/CSCOacs/view/temp/IncrementalBackup.Running file got locked. This should be confirmed by a TAC engineer as well as we might need to access the underlying OS of the unit.
    Regards.

  • Problem restoring LMS 2.6 data to LMS 4.0

    Hello,
I'm trying to migrate from LMS 2.6 on a Windows 2003 server to LMS 4.0 on Windows 2008 R2.
Two things I'll note here which might help future people attempting to use the LMS 4.0 backup/restore scripts as detailed in the migration document:
    1) Make sure nobody has installed cygwin on the server before you run the backup scripts. If they have, remove it and the reg keys.
    2) On the target server make sure to run the restore script CMD session using runas or disable UAC on Windows 2008 or the restore scripts will fail
My next problem I can't get past. I've been running the restore since yesterday morning and it still hasn't finished. It hasn't moved from 40% complete migrating the IPM data but in the last 24 hours it has eaten up 6Gb more RAM.

Should I just wait? Is this something that might take days if I've got a lot of IPM data or is it broken? I don't really care about keeping IPM data so could I do something to complete the data migration for everything else? Any advice appreciated.
    regards,
    Aaron

The restore can take a long time if you have a lot of data.  The problem is the database needs to be completely unloaded and reloaded to convert from ASA 9 to ASA 10.  However, if you do not care about IPM data, and you still have LMS 2.6 running, you can take a new LMS backup not using the wrapper.pl script (this will keep IPM from being backed up).

  • ACS migration from 4.1.1.23 to 5.6

    Dear Team.
We need to upgrade an ACS 4.1.1.23 to a new ACS 5.6. This means a data migration from ACS 4.1.1.24 to 5.6
The migration guide says that the migration utility must be run on a 4.1.1.24 to check the DB integrity and make some modifications.
Our client has an ACS 4.1.1.23.
In the Cisco Download page for ACS 4.1.1.24 there isn't any acumulative patch to 4.1.1.24. Anyone has any idea how we can upgrade the ACS 4.1.1.23 to .24?
After this patch will be applied, we will backup data from 4.1.1.24 to migration server 4.1.1.24 with demo license (this file exist on Download Center)
    Thanks.

You can upgrade to 4.2 and then to 5.6
ACS 4.2 with the recovery DVD, no need to upgrade to ACS 4.1.1.24 and then to 4.2.
Remember to make a backup before the upgrade.
There is a feature that allows you to restore any ACS 4.1 backup into ACS 4.2.
"Before you begin any upgrade procedure, we recommend that you back up your existing data and configuration. When, upgrading do a re-image of ACS 4.2 and then restore the ACS 4.1 configuration."
