ACS 5.5 Hardware Replacement option

I have an existing 2-node, ACS 5.5 cluster (primary plus one secondary) in production running on VMs. I have two new ACS nodes (also on VMs) that I want to install to replace the existing nodes (original VMs weren't built correctly). I have several options to accomplish this but I'm interested in the option to join a secondary to a primary as a hardware replacement.
There is very little documentation that I can find as to what is actually done to the new node during a "hardware replacement" join. Obviously, the ACS database configuration is replicated, but what about IP address, hostname, etc. - node-specific attributes? I'm going to assume that certificates would NOT be copied over as part of the "hardware replacement" option.
Has anyone used this option before or know what attributes from the replaced node are copied to the replacement node?

ACS doesn't replicate certificates. All you can do, export the certificates from the ACS.
That's why a small number of configuration changes can be  performed on a secondary server while in distributed enviornment, including configuration of the server  certificate, and these changes remain local to the server.

Jatin

  • Migrating server hardware replacement oes11 to oes11sp2

This summer I will be replacing server hardware at one of my schools. Currently it has sles11sp1 / oes11 -- put in in 2012. The patches are up to date for this version, but I have not upgraded/migrated it to a newer version yet. I have played in a test environment with the yast2 wagon migration from sles11sp1/oes11 to sles11sp2/oes11sp1 -- no problems. However trying to find notes on how to do a migration and identity transfer from source server hardware to new target server hardware. Found oes11sp2 migration tool administration guide. I haven't found anything telling me how to setup sles on the target server box ie server name etc. Once I have the target sles server setup, I realize I need to install OES and select the "Novell pre-migration server" option during this installation.
Current source server = sles11sp1/oes11 and has iPrint, Nss and netstorage installed. Installed in tree with oes11 and oes11sp1 servers.
The main tree server has sles11sp2/oes11sp1 on it. We will need to upgrade it to sles11sp3/oes11sp2 this summer. I'm fine with doing the yast2 wagon migration on that server. We just haven't done server hardware replacements for OES-L yet.
Looking for some good (step by step) instructions. ;-)
    Thanks

Then install oes11sp2 into the tree in a temporary location in the tree as a premigration server (for the installation). Then I should be able to follow the instructions. When I do the identity transfer, I'm assuming it renames the sles11sp3 server from tempfs to testfs as well (as that is where oes gets the file server name from)?
Um, sorta. Let's pretend your server name is: OLD and the new one is NEW (temporary NEW name and temporary NEW IP)
    OLD: OES11
NEW: OES11 SP2 (assuming you want latest stuff).
    Do all your data transfer/consolidations/etc
Then when you do the ID transfer, it will literally transfer the eDir databases (well copy is more correct) from OLD to NEW, you shut off OLD, I think it restarts NEW and renames/changes the servername and IP to what OLD had.
You can choose to install the NEW server with the .ISO separately (ie: Install SLES11 SP3, then after you're done, Add On the OES11 SP2 .ISO), or you may choose to use the integrated DVD and do it all at once, or use the 2 separate ISO and do them at once (but depending upon your installation method, you may not be able to do the 2 separate ISO).
    I hope that helps.
I'm about halfway through editing my docs for OES11 SP1 (of course, SP2 is out now) for migrations from OES2 SP3, but the same setup steps basically apply. I think the only things that changed from NW To OES (ie: OES2 to OES11) are DHCP and iPrint migration procedures.

  • Why doesn't the replace option of JavaScript's window.open method work with FireFox 3 or 4?

The photo html files on the Fanac Fan History project's website are now setup to be displayed properly when JavaScript is disabled and reformatted by a php script when JavaScript is enabled. The reformatting adds some features and positions each photo's caption and credits based on the width of the photo and the browser's page width. This worked well except that when a photo page was accessed the browser's back button wouldn't work properly. This was because I had failed to include the replace option in my windows.open statement. The statement now reads fileWindow = window.open(fileURL, "_self", "", true); and this has cured the problem with IE and the other browsers but it still doesn't work with FireFox.
PS: You need to add "Always" to "This happened".

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
#Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the ''Mozilla'' folder, then double-click on ''Firefox'' and then on ''Crash reports''. Double-click on ''submitted''.
#Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to ''View'' > ''Arrange Icons by'' > ''Modified'' to get the most recent files at the top of the window.

How do I perform a search across files to get the search occurances across files (in a folder), without the replace option?

  • Database Management Copy Data - Replace Option

Can anyone provide info on how this works? we are using 9.2.1
When using database management to copy data, when using the replace option, even if we only pick a few accounts to copy, it is erasing all data in the Target scenario. Does the replace option clear all data by default before copying in the selected data?
we tried to use the Merge option but apparently that doesn't always work for some reason-could be user error. not sure.
    Thanks
    Wags

Hey Wags- this is expected functionality of the Replace method. It clears all custom/account data for the load entity/year/period combo prior to do the load. For example, if there is P&L data in entity A in Jan 2010 and you load $500 to it in a Sales account, all the rest of the P&L data will be cleared and you'll just have $500 in the Sales account.
    Here's stuff from the guide:
Several options are available for loading data into an application. You can merge, replace, or
accumulate the data into the application. You select one of these options for each load process.
    Note:
You cannot load calculated data into an application.
    Merge
Select this option to overwrite the data in the application with the data from the file.
For each unique point of view that exists in the data file and in the application, the value in the
data file overwrites the data in the application.
    Note:
If you have multiple values in the file for the same point of view, the system loads only the value
    for the last entry.
If you select the Accumulate Within File option in conjunction with the Merge option, the system
adds all values for the same point of view in the data file, and overwrites the data in the application
    with the total.
For each unique point of view that is in the data file but does not have a value in the application,
the value from the data file is loaded into the application.
    Replace
For each unique combination of scenario, year, period, entity, and value in the data file, the
system first clears all corresponding values from the application, then loads the value from the
    data file.
    Note:
If you have multiple values in the file for the same unique combination of dimensions, the system
loads only the value for the last entry.
If you select the Accumulate Within File option in conjunction with the Replace option, the
system clears the value from the application, adds all values for the same point of view in the
data file, and loads the total.
You can achieve the same result as using the Replace option with the Accumulate Within File
option by using the Database Management module. You can organize the data in the file into
groups based on Scenario, Year, Entity, Value, and Period.
Use the Clear Data tab in the Database Management module to clear each unique combination
of these dimensions, selecting all accounts including system accounts. Enter the data manually
in a data grid, or load or copy the data into the application using the Merge or Accumulate load
options. When you perform the Clear operation for a period in a subcube, data, cell text, and
line item detail are cleared, but cell attachments are not cleared.
    Note:
You may need to create several small files to load a data file using the Replace mode, especially
if the data is very large or if the file contains ownership data. An error message is displayed if the
file is too large when you try to load it.
    Replace by Security
This option enables you to perform a data load in Replace mode even if you do not have access
to all accounts. When you perform the Clear operation for a period in a subcube, only the cells
to which you have access are cleared. Data, cell text, and line item detail are cleared, but cell
    attachments are not cleared.
    Accumulate
For each unique point of view that exists in the data file and in the application, the value from
the load file is added to the value in the application.
    Note:
Data for system accounts is not accumulated.
    Accumulate Within File
You can use the Accumulate Within File option in conjunction with the Merge and Replace
options. This option accumulates the data in the file first and loads the totals into the application
based on the load option selected.
    File Contains Ownership Data
If the file contains ownership data, you must indicate this by selecting File Contains Ownership
Data. If you do not select this option and the data file contains ownership or shares information,
an error occurs when you load the file.

  • Repair vs replace option when MBR is probably bad?

I could use some assistance getting the Thinkvantage & F11 buttons working  again.  Fn and Thinkvantage buttons work correctly when booted into Windows as does the R&R software, but will not go into the recovery partition when booting the machine.
The blue Thinkvantage button will only show a "Startup Interrupt Menu" with three options: pressing ESC to resume startup normally, F1 to enter the BIOS or F12 to load the boot menu.
I ran the MBR repair floppy  (the CD ISO I found reported errors on download & burn with 2 different programs), but it said that the MBR might not be from Lenovo and did apparently did nothing.  Should I try the replace option instead of repair?  What will that do and will it affect my disk partitions?
I did repartition the C drive into multiple C, D, & E drives, but did not change or move the service partition which I can see in disk management.    This was all working until I booted the machine with an old drive in the SATA ultrabay.  Windows went wacko getting drive letters confused and kind of merging the boot from both drives.  I got that fixed and the preboot environment is all thats left to resolve.
    Thanks a lot

Everyone is different, and sometimes people have sentimental attachments to systems that override what makes economic sense to most people... Most techs I know use a 50% threshold. If repairing is going to cost more than 50% of a new system, it's probably not worth fixing.
USUALLY in these cases systems are 2-3 years old or more, so people can at least take comfort in the fact that they're getting a better overall system. In your case, you don't have that, so the threshold for repair vs replace should maybe be more around 75%. But from some of the liquid damaged systems I've seen, and estimates I've written up... I don't think you'll have that big of an issue making a decision. Bare minimum they'll probably have to replace the logic board. There's also a good chance the display is damaged, and replacing the battery after liquid damage is generally a good idea, just to be safe. There's a good chance the repair costs would exceed the cost of a new system.
And for the record, you did about all you could given the circumstances. The damage was done the moment the liquid came in contact with the circuitry. There's really nothing you can do with liquid spills except clean things up as best you can and hope for the best.

  • X230T - Broken Screen - Replacement Options?

Lenovo Thinkpad X230T (3437 CTO) As you can see, I had an accident.  I bought this tablet just a few weeks ago for engineering school, and the screen is totally shattered.   I contacted Lenovo about my 3 year warranty status, and how to go about repairing the machine, however they informed me that my $100 warranty does not cover accidents.  They said it would be $750 to fix it, which isn't possible for me.  I need to repair it myself.  However, this leaves me with a few questions.   The screen is a 12.5 inch multitouch display.  I am not sure how the touch components and display components operate.  Are they combined into a single unit, or is the screen display a seperate component?  I have plugged the tablet into another moniter via DVI cable, and it is fully functional, INCLUDING THE TOUCH SCREEN CAPABILITIES!   After some research I have found this replacement option:  https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/IBM-Lenovo/THINKPAD~X230~TABLET~3437/ However, that model number is only 3437, not 3437-CTO.  I'm not sure if that matters, but I don't believe so.  Even the 220's appear to use the same screen technology.   If I were to buy this screen and replace the broken one, would the touch screen capabilities still function?  Would that component come with the unit I ordered, or would the already functioning touch screen remain seperate and intact?   Any help would be greatly appreciated.  This has been an extremely stressful few weeks,  and this has added a huge punctuation mark to that.   Thanks

  • Kernel panic leads to hardware replacement

I've been having troubles with kernel panics throughout the day... I've followed every step from zapping pram to following step-by-steps AppleCare techies have given me.
Problem is: nothing has worked, so I need to take it in to be looked at.
I'm 99 percent certain it's a hardware problem, which, I read, can be costly.
However, I bought my iBook in December 2005 and bought the extended warranty. Will my warranty cover any hardware replacement?
I'm a poor college student; and if it's going to cost me I've got to weigh out what I value most, my iBook or my plasma.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

If you're under your warranty still and you haven't done anything crazy with your iBook like spilling liquids on it or dropping it, then Apple will repair your iBook for no cost.

    Hi,
I need Unity7.0 hardware replace to new one and follows the instruction,

-if I can join the new hardware with different host name, can I DiRT restore to the new hardware? if yes, automatically mapping all Unity database to new hardware while DiRT restore then?
Q2) when I roll back to old Unity server in the case something problem on the new hardware, can I just reconnect the old Unity server to production with disconnecting the new hardware?
-I think its depends on the answer of Q1 that the new hardware with same host name versus different host name
    Advise please,

    Hello
    How are you?
    Answers are inline below:
Q1: DIRT restore only requires that the system be on the same exact version of unity so the name can be different when installing a new server. Dirt will sync all the users to the new server.
Q2: There is no documentated procedure for this but I suspect you need to do the same steps you did to setup the new hardware.
install unity cleanly on that old server then use the dirt backup to restore to the old hardware. You will need a clean install on that system in order to run dirt. And dirt needs to run in order to sync the users back to this unity server.
    Hope this helps
    Thank you

  • WRVS4400N Replacement Options

Hi, I purchased a WRVS4400N Router from NewEgg it was semi-DOA. It didnt turn on right away and after a few hours of plugging it in and unplugging it I got it to come on. I believe the board is bad however it did start working so I just went with that as I couldn't go without the router. Anyways I no longer have the original packaging so NewEgg wont take it back. Do I have any replacement options with Linksys and can I have them send me out a new one first then I ship them the bad one. I know I can do this with Netgear btu I'm not sure about Linksys. I have a hard enough time getting the basic understanding of what's wrong with it to the foreign tech-support they offer via the phone so I figured I'd come here. Also Linksys if I spell my name out to you and pronounce it please don't mispronounce it and call me Rackey when I told you and spelt it out for you as Ricky.

    No one has any ideas?

  • Ipad battery replacement options

My Ipad 4th gen no longer powers on. Will apple replace it using the 99 dollar battery replacement option or does it have to turn on and fail the battery test before they can do this?

What happens when you plug it into the charger that was supplied with it? How do you know the battery is bad? What are the symptoms the device is relaying to you (besides not powering on) that makes you believe the battery is indeed bad?
You can make a reservation at your local Apple Store's Genius Bar (you'll need your Apple ID) to have it evaluated for free to verify that the battery is indeed bad.
Try a device reset...the device could merely be locked-up:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
