ACS Express 5.0 - "unique authentication" what does it mean?

Hi to all,
the ACS Express 5.0 datasheet states: "Cisco ACS Express supports a maximum of 50 AAA clients and 350 unique user logins in a 24-hour period"
It's clear what's the meaning of the max 50 AAA clients...in fact what is not clear is regarding the max 350 uniques user authentication.
If I use 802.1 IBNS with PEAP-MSCHAP to do machine authenticaion each machine authentication will count as a unique logon...isn'it? What happens if there are Laptop assigned to sales which spent a lot of time out of the office???
Each time these laptops reconnect to the network wil count as an extra logon or and increase the logon counter of one or since this laptop is already authenticated on the morning t won't count as an extra unique logon...
My question is related to the fact that I have a customer who wanto to introduce IBNS-802.1X but have "only" 20-25 AAA clients and max. 200 users (where about 100 are laptop)...and using ACS 5.0 in a redundant way will be too expensive...
Thanks for a reply
Omar

The ACS Express 5.0 Appliance is designed for a maximum of 350 users. This limit does not apply to the number of logins.

Q. How is Cisco Secure ACS Express positioned in comparison to Cisco Secure ACS for Windows (ACS Windows) and Cisco Secure ACS Solution Engine (ACS SE)?
A. ...Cisco Secure ACS Express is well suited for deployments that need an access control solution for fewer than 350 users and 50 devices. This product is intended to serve small to medium-sized businesses, retail sites and enterprise branch offices where customers need an easy-to-use GUI yet require a comprehensive but simple feature set and a lower price point to address their specific deployment needs.
For a detailed feature set, please refer to the Cisco Secure ACS Express data sheet at http://www.cisco.com/go/acsexp....

I just purchased an extreme.  I have an express.  The sales guy recommended setting up a hot spot with the express and use the extreme as a base station.  What does he mean and how do I do this?  What are the advantages?  How do I set this up?????

I think he means to set up the main extreme as the main router or "main base station", and then use the express to "extend" the network.
You can look up the manual for your express here for more details:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/
Extend the range of your network by adding AirPort Express to your existing AirPortExtreme or AirPort Express wireless network (this is called a Wireless DistributionSystem, or WDS). "
Extending the Range of an Existing AirPort Extreme or
    AirPort Express Network
You can extend the range of an existing AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express wirelessnetwork by setting it up in a WDS. Wireless computers can connect to the network andshare the Internet connection, share files, and play network games. If you connect yourAirPort Express to your home stereo, computers on your wireless network can useAirTunes to play music on the stereo from iTunes. If you connect a USB printer to yourAirPort Express, all of the computers on the network can print to it.
n Open the AirPort Setup Assistant on a Macintosh, or the AirPort Express Assistant on acomputer using Windows XP. Follow the onscreen instructions to extend the range ofyour AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express network.
Note: Extending the range of a network using WDS may reduce overall networkperformance.

thank you thank you for taking an interest. this is so frustrating.
i only have apple keyboard, mighty mouse, and 20 inch cinema display connected. this morning took out memory and tried to boot up with individual pairs in the first bank. first the (2)256, the (2) 1g, and then the other (2) 1g modules. everytime I get the weird fuzzy wheel under the logo after a while, black screen flashes, then grey apple logo fuzzy screen then black forever.
I ran tiger updates this morn. still will only boot to safe mode. then tried to run leopard disk to install it
will not boot from leopard disk.
tried safe boot, then doulble click install leopard, restart, then the saga repeats with the pixely red square around the wheel.
these are fresh drives with only what came on instll disk loaded.
thanks again for taking an interest.
i love this system(well at least i did). I want to install leopard on my powerbook too but am terrified to do so right now since it is working and I have work to do. Can't afford to have no computer to do my work on...self employment is great?!
This is making me crazy. I anxiously await your words of wisdom.

  • 'Device sharing same IP address as your computer' - what does this mean?

I purchased an Airport Express yesterday and was having connection problems after setting it up to only join my existing network (to play wireless audio to speakers in the kitchen) - I seem to have solved the issue by switching off WPS on my base station (provided by my ISP)
My question is: after making this change to the settings, I got a message saying 'this device' (presumably meaning the Airport Express) was now sharing the same IP address as my MacBook Pro.
What does this mean, and will there be any detrimental effects?

Thanks BTF. Presumably only my MacBook Pro and the Apple TV are connected to the internet as the Airport Express is only set up to join the existing network with the crappy router as the base station. Neither the ATV or AE have static IPs assigned.
I have since restarted my MacBook Pro and at present have Airplay audio streaming to the AE and video to the ATV simultaneously without any (at the moment) problems.

It sounds like you might have accidently copied Chess over from an Intel Mac, or an Intel Mac's installer DVD.  The architecture typically means it is designed uniquely for either Intel or PowerPC.  Be sure to extract Chess from the 10.5 Retail installer disc that looks like * and not any other disk.  http://www.charlessoft.com/ 's Pacifist lets you extract individual applications from installers without having to reinstall everything.

what  does it mean my imap4 password is wrong i havent changed a thing it just appeared

It means the server rejected the password. make sure you can log in to your email providers web mail. Some providers, notably Yahoo, have dozens, if not hundreds of servers that do authentication. Sometimes they get out of sync. Yahoo's mail servers are notoriously bad. Try deleting and re-adding the account.

    Is that in "Wiley" language
Don't I have to covert it again from Wiley into English?
"Wiley" is not a language, it is a system for transliterating Tibetan letters into Latin letters, chiefly used by scholars because it gives an accurate representation of the Tibetan word in Latin letters, including letters that are silent or pronounced differently in Tibetan. Like English, Tibetan is only partially phonetic in its writing; there are numerous letters which are written but not pronounced in speech, while other letters are pronounced differently than theirr "nominal" sound either singly or in combination. As in English, where a student must learn that "tion" is pronounced "shun".
Transliteration produces a letter-for-letter copy in a different alphabet, such as the Latin alphabet we use. Transcription of Tibetan produces a word in Latin letters that shows how the word sounds, which may be very different from how it's spelled. (There have been numerous systems of transcription for Tibetan; currently the best for international use is the THL Simplified Phonetic Transcription [see below]. Also many Tibetan words and names are commonly known in varying idiosyncratic transcriptions which don't follow any formal system.) Translation gives the equivalent of the Tibetan word in another language, such as English. For instance, the expression above:
བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས། (common Tibetan greeting, like Hawaiian "aloha" or Hebrew "shalom")
Wiley transliteration: bkra shis bde legs
THL transcription: tra shi dé lek
    Common rendering: Tashi Delek
    Translation: Auspicious Blessings
If you're interested in learning about Tibetan, a good place to start is Wikipedia, which has good articles about the language, its script (alphabet), and transliteration systems.

If you're seriously interested, you can try this Tibetan Language Student website:
    http://www.learntibetan.net
Note that the Tibetan text on this site is not in Unicode, so you have to download a special font for it.
This book is the best introductory on the Tibetan script and how it works: "Tibetan Language Pre-Primer":

Or if you're really serious, the Tibetan Language Institute:
    http://www.tibetanlanguage.org
And the Tibetan & Himalayan Library offers pages which can convert Tibetan script to Wylie transliteration:
    http://www.thlib.org/reference/transliteration/wyconverter.php
    and phonetic transcription:

Is שלום.  an actual real word?
שלום is Hebrew, not Tibetan, and is a word. Hebrew is phonetically written, so both transliteration and transcription for שלום is "shalom", and it translates as "peace" in English.

  • What does it mean when the "time connected" disappears?

I am using a Time Capsule plus a couple of Airport Express devices to extend my wireless network. I have various MacBook models. On all my MacBooks, the "time connected" clock keeps on disappearing, sometimes 5 or 6 times a minute. The clock comes, then it goes, then it comes back... What does this mean? If it is bad, any suggestions how I fix it?

    Something is wrong.
Open the airport utility and click on the yellow light in the summary page. it will take you to the errors.
    Likely needs a firmware update.
    Which maybe worth avoiding.

Wi-Fi is turned on but is not connected to a network. What does this mean?  How do I fix it?

Hi, Kozou. Welcome to the forums!
Connect your computer to the Express's Ethernet port and open AirPort Utility. Does this allow AirPort Utility to find your Express?
If so, go through the setup process. After the Express restarts, disconnect it from the computer and connect it to your DSL, cable modem, or whatever provides your internet connection. Wait a minute or so. The light on the Express should turn green.
Now tell your MBP to join the wireless network created by the Express. You can do this using the AirPort menu or the Network pane of System Preferences.
    Does this work?
