ACS Server MAC Authentication with Windows Database

Has anyone setup an ACS Server 3.2 for MAC authentication using Windows as the authentication. The documentation I found shows how to set it up using the CiscoSecure database. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the link for setting up MAC authentication using CisoSecure database. There may not be a solution for my setup, but maybe I'll keep hacking away at it and find a resolution.

  • Cisco Secure ACS 4.1 with Windows Database

I have ACS 4.1 integrated with Windows Database (check mark in allow Remote DialIn).
When we terminate a employee do I have to also delete their ACS User Profile?
If I delete the user in AD will they automatically delete the user in ACS?
Where can I read more about this?

    Hi,
If you delete the user in AD, then it would not authenticate the user even if the dynamic mapped user exists in the ACS database, as the password would not be verified from the AD for the user.
The dynamically mapped user entry would still exist in ACS and would not get deleted if the user is deleted from AD.

  • SQL Server Express compatibility with Windows 8.1 - Which version(s) are compatible?

We have purchased a new computer that has Win 8.1 Pro. We are migrating an application from a Win 7 Pro machine we are currently successfully using (the vendor migrates it for us) and they have said that the application will require the installation of SQL
Server 2008 Express (which we do have on our Win 7 machine).
In looking at the requirements for SQL Server 2008 Express (on the download page for it), it does not mention it being compatible with Win 8.1
In addition, Installation Instructions  says that it requires:
     Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
     Windows Installer 4.5.
     Windows PowerShell 1.0
I see that 3.5 is already listed as a program feature of Win8.1 and I've enabled it. Do I need to install SP1? I downloaded it, and launched it, and nothing happened.
I also looked at the Windows Installer 4.5 download page, and it's not clear if that is compatible with 8.1. Do I need to download and install it?
Power Shell 2.0 is already installed. I assume that will be backwards compatible with PowerShell 1.0; is that correct?
I saw another question about SQL Server Express Compatibility with Win 8.1 (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/038ec00e-4fc1-41ba-9fdc-21c022aad67e/action?threadDisplayName=sql-server-express-compatibility-with-windows-81) and the response
said that SQL Server Express 2012 will work, but the link contained in the answer led to a page for SQL Server Express 2014.
My vendor has told me that SQL SERver Express 2012 will be backwards compatible with their product. But they said that I would first have to install 2008 first. Is that correct for Win 8.1?
    So, the ultimate questions are:
    1. What is the link for Sql Server 2012 Express for Win 8.1?
    2. Will the SQL Server 2012 Express download require prior install of the 2008 version
    3. What other component requirements are required for SQL Server 2012 Express, and how can I determine if they have already been installed. (This is a brand new computer with a clean Win8.1 Install).
    4. Finally, can we use the 2014 version of SQL Server Express for Win 8.1? If so, questions 1, 2 and 3 apply, too.
Thanks for your help on this!! HIGH ANXIETY.

  • Doe's the mac come with windows 7?

Does the MAC come with windows 7?

No. You can run Windows on a Mac in several different ways, but all require that you purchase Windows separately. Apple only supplies the Windows drivers needed to integrate with the Apple hardware.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Authentication with Windows NT Server

    Hi guys!
Our customer has a domain with Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server NT, only users in the Windows Server 2003 appears when we create a access policy for authenticated users. This domains has a trust relationship, WSA supports Windows NT?
    Regards,

You will need 2 authentication realms if your not going to use the AD authentication connector for NT 4.0. The firts authentication realm will be NTLM and connect to the NT4.0 PDC server. Next you will need an AD auth realm which will be configured using LDAP. If by chance you have a 2 way transitive trust and the AD connector installed on the NT 4.0 PDC server as well as configured to talk to the 2003 AD server then you could actully just use one authentication realm. To answer your question we do not have a tutorial on configuring NT 4.0 fro authentication as this technology is not supported by Microsoft as it is EOL.

  • ACS 4.1 support with Windows Server 2012 Domain controller

I am upgrading my Domain Controller / Active Directory from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012.
In my environment, I am using Cisco ACS 4.1 which is integrated with Windows Server 2003 Active Directory.
Will ACS4.1 will work fine with my new domain controller (Windows server 2012) or I need to upgrade my ACS too?
    Regards,
    Junaid

    Junaid,
ACS 4.x code doesn't even support Windows 2008 R2. Your best bet is to migrate the ACS from 4.x to ACS 5.4 Patch 2 or stay with windows 2003 or 2008 (Non-R2).
ACS 5.4 patch 2 supports Windows 2012 AD.

Goal- to be able to login on a mac domain using windows 7
Present network setup- Mac server (Leopard 10.5.8) is the PDC, user directory (open directory) and it has kerberos authentication

windows 7 is my only sore thumb right now because of the rather strange error below whenever i try to login as a domain user
"the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed"
I followed the tip below to be able to join the domain-

and i have successfully joined the domain and im able to connect the networked computers in win7..
i just cant login as a domain user (note error above)
i am totally lost on whats wrong and i am surprised that vista works on my domain (since win7 is vista's cousin)
any thoughts on what my issue is?

  • Machine authentication with Windows 7

    Version: ISE 1.2p12
    Hello,
I'm doing user and machine authentication with ISE.
I use a first authorization rule to authenticate the machine against the AD. If it's part computers of the domain.
Then I use an authorization rule to check if the user's group in AD with the credential he used to open the session + "Network Access:WasMachineAuthenticated = True"
Things seems to be working and I see my switch port is "Authz Success" but shortly after the Windows 7 machine is behaving like 802.1X authentication fails. The little computer on the bottom right has a cross on it.
If I disable and enable again the network card of that windows machine it works.
Does any one of you have an idea about this problem ? something to tweak on Windows 7 like timers...
    Thank you

    Hi Mika. My comments below:
    a) You told me that MAR ("Network Access:WasMachineAuthenticated = True") has some drawbacks. When hibernation is used it can cause problems since the MAC address could have been removed from the cache when the user un-hibernate its computer. Then why not increasing the MAR cache to a value of 7 days then ? Regarding the roaming between wire and wireless it's a problem indeed.
NS: I don't believe that the MAR cache would be affected by a machine hibernating or going to sleep. There are some dot1x related bug fixes that Massimo outlined in his first pos that you should look into. But yes, you can increase the MAR timer to a value that fits your environent
    b) You suggest to use one authorization rule for the device which should be part of the AD and one authorization rule for the user with the extra result "IdentityAccessRestricted = False". By the was, are we really talking about authorization rules here ? I will try this but it's difficult for me to imagine how it would really work.
NS: Perhaps there is some confusion here but let me try to explain this again. The "IdentityAccessRestricted" is a check that can be done against a machine or a user account in AD. It is an optional attribute and you don't have to have it. I use it so I can prevent terminated users from gaining access to the network by simply disabling their AD account. Again, that account can be either for a "user" or for a "machine"
    z) One question I was asking myself for a long time. All of us want to do machine+user authentication but Windows write Machine OR User Authentication. This "OR" is very confusing.
NS: At the moment, the only way you can accomplish a true machine+user authentication is to use the Cisco AnyConnect supplicant. The process is also known as "EAP-Chaining" and/or "EAP-TEAP." In fact there is an official RFC (RFC 7170 - See link below). Now the question is when and if Microsoft, Apple, Linux, etc will start supporting it:

  • RH Server 9 compatibility with Windows Server 2008 SP2/SQL Server

Our tech support people are preparing for a first install of RH Server 9. They have asked me to find out whether there is a recent patch that would enable it to work with Windows Server 2008 SP2 64 bit and MS SQL Server 2008.
If there is not yet a patch, will there be one for this OS/DB combination in the future, and when?
This is in reference to the knowledgebase article at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/884/cpsid_88483.html which gives a "not recommended" status to this combination.
Our infrastructure team would prefer to use this combination if it is possible.
Second question from the tech team: Do we need to separate the RoboHelp application from the database or can they both reside on the same server?

To answer your first question, no there is no patch to allow SQL Server 2008 to run on a 64 bit server. To answer your second question, I don't know. This is a user to user forum and therefore we are not party to any discussions on when or if a patch will be released. You could sumbit a feature request which the Adobe RoboHelp Product Manager will get. This will help advance your case. You can submit it here:

  • ACS Server: External Authentication configuration error

    Hi ALL
I have installed the ACS server and configure properly and it works fine.
But whenever i restart the machine, following error message appears on the external database configuration wizard.
    External Authentication Configuration Error
ACS has encountered a problem while attempting to process your request. This could be due to one of the following:
An incorrect installation or configuration of the third-party DLLs required to support this External Database
    A corrupt ACS configuration
So after i found this error, i just restart all the seven services and every things works fine.
I always encountered the same error message after restarting the machine each time.
Can any body recomend the solution or can help me to resolve the issue.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Please try the following workaround.
    1. Go to Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Services.
    2. Stop the following services in the following order.
    CSAuth
    CSDbSync
    CSLog
    CSMon
    CSRadius
    CSTacacs
    CSAdmin
    3. After stopping the following services, start them all again in the following order.
    CSAdmin
    CSAuth
    CSDbSync
    CSLog
    CSMon
    CSRadius
    CSTacacs
Please let me know if this was able to help.
If the above doesn't help, please reinstall the ACS as the dll files that are being used
by the ACS have been corrupted, before uninstalling and reinstalling, do take a
backup of ACS server database from System Configuration > ACS backup > Backup Now.
Also make sure that the ACS is installed on the default drive.

  • How to share 10.6 OSX Server print queue with Windows 7 successfully?

I used Bonjour Print Services for a Windows 7 machine (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999) to successfully connect to a Mac OX Server 10.6 print queue, and the following message is generated in the print log and CUPS log,
    "POST/printers/stormoncecar/ HTTP/ 1.1" 200 2205 Print-Job Successful-OK
There are no errors, however, nothing comes out of the printer.  It works for all the Mac OS Client machines, but not for any of the Windows 7 machines.
How to share print queue with Windows 7 successfully?

Driver for Canon LBP6750 UFRII prints from Mac and prints from Windows 7.  However, printing from Windows 7 as you share the printer from your Mac does not print out anything and has no errors.

  • Will Mavericks server ever work with windows 7?

I want to buy a new content server for our small business. Today we use snow leopard server on a Macmini and it is running stable, but we are growing and need to have a faster system and faster diskaccess and I have been looking at a solution with Macmini with thunderbolt pegasus raid. On the paper it looks really interesting, fast and it would be great for our small business! ....BUT.. I have read tons of forums with people having problems with windows compatibility.
We use both Mac and PC in a small environment and the most IMPORTANT thing we need is a shared disk that work flawlessly with both windows and Mac. I do not need lots of other osx server features as mail, ftp, etc etc...
So, Will Maverick server ever work as a content server with windows 7 professional client computers? Or should I go for a windows server (I rather not since I do not like windows)?  Or maybe a NAS-server is a better sollution for content sharing/shared workdisk?

Hi jcar, thanks for writing in!  While the Canon BJC-80 printer will not work with the Windows 7 operating system, we have plenty of printers that are fully compatible! Please feel free to click on the link below to explore some Canon alternatives; we hope this helps!
