Action, Batch Command in CS1 and conversion

I'm experimenting with turning PSDs and JPGs into web size (approx. 700x950 pix.) jpegs. Is there a way to convert PSDs to JPEGS in the Action command (I assume one can't do it in Batch).
Thank you,
Allan

Allan, use the Image Processor. (Unless CS1 didn't have it, I don't remember anymore.)
If tou want to use actions, use File > Automate > Fit image and record that.

  • Fireworks batch command changes original colors

Is anyone having this problem? When I run a batch command on CMYK jpgs, it changes the files to RGB mode and in some cases the colors are drastically changed. I am aware that the 2 modes  will display colors "slightly" different, and I don't mind the final product being RGB, but the way Fireworks handles it is too extreme. When I change modes in other bitmap programs, like Corel PhotoPaint or Adobe PhotoShop, the overall conversion is very much acceptable and the color change is so minute that it's hardly noticeable.
And before you jump down my back about using "non Adobe" software, keep in mind that all software has it's strong and weak points and I've been using the program  that gets the job done right since they  were introduced back in the late '80s.
Fireworks is one of my favorite programs, and the batch command saves time, but the color glitch is unacceptable. Does anyone know of a fix for this or a possible workaround (without creating more steps than the batch command saves)?

Open the Actions Panel and click the Panel property icon, you should see a few extra Action sets that don't load automatically by default - namely, the Production set. Select that one and in this set are a few items to check out/scutinize/learn from to help create the action you need.
On another note, here's a link to an olden golden that makes use of Conditional statements that may fit your needs

Though I have not tried this with newer builds.

  • Batch Command Warning Dialog

    Hello All
I've set-up an action to resize a folder of photos.  Recorded the action, all is good.  I go to AUTOMATE > BATCH and go through the set-ups, etc., but when I activate the run, I keep getting this warning dialog:
"Could not complete the Batch command because the disk is not available".
At first I thought it may be looking for the SD card the photos were copied from, but that's not the case as I have imported all the photos and they now reside on the HD.  I've tried restarting Photoshop and even restarting the system - both to no avail.
Any idea as to what this dialog is referring to?
    Running :
    Photoshop CC
    27" Late 2013 iMac
    3.5 GHz Intel i7
    16 GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Graphics
    OSX 10.9.1
Any help would be MOST appreciated!!
    Keith

If all your doing is resizing image to fit within some size you don't even need an action unless you replacing the original files which is not a good idea in any case. For if something goes wrong you could wind up loose everything.
Use menu File Scripts>Image Processor.  In the Image Processor Dialog point to the source folder set the output locarion set image file types yoo want to save and the size and option. You can even include actions.
There is also Image Processor Pro a free download which is a more powerful script.

  • Batch Command Freezes up CS5

Suddenly, when I use the batch command, CS5 freezes up and has to be closed using alt-ctrl-delete. I've been using the command for a long time with no problems. All the other commands under the "Automate" line work.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                I reinstalled CS5, and it appeared to fix the problem. However, when I scanned a BUNCH of photos, and went to use the command, it froze again. Any ideas?

Ok since I got some free time, I updated to 12.0.4 again, with reallocating the temp path.
The freezing bug is still there, and it's still creating those .mvm file(1-14 inside the C:Temp. and 15 at the root of E). Since http://forums.adobe.com/thread/747353 is still discussing this issue, I'll leave it for a while.
With the update, my selection issue is also remaining there, I'd like to talk about it, since it's not only happnening to selection or magic tool, but to any tools  involving moving cursor.
    http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/photoshop-troubleshooting/29186-photoshop-cs4-cs5-acti ng-like-they-possessed.html
    http://digitalweddingchat.com/showthread.php/14289-weird-mouse-problem-in-PS..-posessed-mo use!
I'll save myself the trouble of describing since the above posts have done it really well. And their fixes do not apply to me.
What I could add to this:
    1) Regarding the selection tool, this issue mostly happens after I move my cursor, and once it's "activated", I could just click like hell without moving my mouse at all, while creating a crazy record of below( simply caused by clicking mouse, which
    "moving marquee>cancel selection>moving marquee>cancel selection>moving marquee>cancel selection>moving marquee>cancel selection>moving marquee>cancel selection>moving marquee>cancel selection>moving marquee>cancel selection>moving marquee>cancel selection>moving marquee>cancel selection>moving marquee>cancel selection>".
But if I simply open PS, and start clicking on the picture with selection tool, keeping my mouse from moving in the first place, then usually I can't duplicate this issue.
    2) Also, the issue will also occur if I move my mouse and click, but we could get some hint if we duplicate it this way.The unintended selection caused by this issue, which we take rectangular selection for example, will have a corner at the place where I ever put my cursor at. So from my point of view, it's like photoshop is ignoring my action, which is releasing the left button. For PS, I first move my mouse to point A, pushing left button down, (igored)releasing left button(ignored), moving mouse to point B,and a new unintended selection! Though this pattern only occurs sometimes of the issue, but it might hold some word.
    3) As I keep testing, the easiest way to duplicate the issue is to move my mouse for a long distance and click, opposed to rapid small displacement and click.Well not that useful.
    4) The way I deal with it now, is to endure it. I keep reselecting and usually the issue will disappear for a while, and come back at unknown future. I tried changing my mouse/graphic card/memory, as well as their drivers, ended up no fixing.
    Any idea on this, Noel?

  • Batch command unavailable

Suddenly when I select multiple images in Bridge, then go to Tools>Photoshop>Batch, I get the message "The command "Batch" is currently unavailable."  Batch is also greyed out in Automate.  This occurs when no other processes are happening.  What could  it be?  Batch command has always worked fine in the past.

So File > Automate > Batch in Photshop is greyed out?
And would you mind providing the relevant information about your set-up (Photoshop-version, OS etc.)?
    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by pressing command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift while starting Photoshop until the appropriate dialog appears after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)

  • Batch Command in CS5 is greyed out

The Batch Command in CS5 is greyed out.  I am running CS5 64 bit with  Windows 7 64-bit.  Any ideas. It was working and now it does not.

You're talking about the Batch... entry in the File - Automate menu inside Photoshop itself?  That's weird, I have never seen that one become disabled.
Do you have any actions at all loaded into your Actions panel?
Have you quit and restarted Photoshop, and does the problem persist?
Failing these things, I think I might suggest clearing all the preferences to defaults.  You can do this by pressing and holding Control-Shift-Alt (or Shift-Command-Option on a Mac) immediately upon cold starting Photoshop.  If you're quick enough to get the keys down - and you have to be very quick - it will prompt you to delete your current preferences, which will lead to the generation of out-of-box defaults.  Clearing preferences quite often restores operation when weird things go wrong.  Keep in mind you'll have to re-do all your settings after this operation.

  • CS3 saving from actions & batch error, what to do?

    Hello!
I am trying to edit a big bunch of my photos using actions and the batch script in Photoshop CS3 Extended on Windows Vista. The whole thing falls apart when PS is trying to save during an action sequence (or even if the saving is bypassed by the batch script) and displays an error message: "Could not save as 'file location/file name...' because the file could not be found." And this happens while the file actually is already open in Photoshop!
Not only does it make the batch command completely useless but also makes editing a large number of photos very frustrating since the only way of saving them is to do it manually one by one.
Anyone have any ideas on what I could do to make it work again as it should?
    Kind regards,
    Olli

Photoshop open a file and read it in memory and converts it into a Photoshop document in Photoshop data structures and closes the file.  There are no open files in Photoshop there are active documents in Photoshop. Some Active documents may be associated with files while others may be new documents where no file exists yet.  You may be getting a miss leading message about a file not existing where the real cause may be something else like the device  or folder does not exist or the folder or file is locked with a read only attribute or something like that.   Batch Scripts and Plug-in save files all the time without problems its what batching is all about.

  • Problems with actions (batch automation)

I created an action to convert some .tif files to .jpg's and then resize the image and close. However
when i try to put it into action, the batch automate wont proceed, and it says: "The command "save as" is not currently available... even if i click "continue" it still gives me the same prompt for the other steps in the action.... 'save' and 'close'.
I created a similar action a week ago that worked fine... anyone know what might be the problem???
    thanks.

    Peter
Do you have a save or save as command as part of your action?
Do you have the 'Overide action 'save as' commands' ticked in the batch settings window?
Double click the text 'Overide action 'save as' commands' for a description of what it does.

  • Batch command not closing files automatically

    Hi,
    Photoshop CS6
    Windows 7
How do you make Photoshop automatically save and close a batch of raw files during batch runs?
I'm just now trying the File>Automate>Batch command. I want to run an action on a bunch of .NEF raw files.
How do you get rid of all the dialogs and just make the thing do the action? i.e., just OpenTheRawFile>RunTheAction>SaveAndClose>DoTheNextFile
First it opened them all up one by one in Camera Raw and the ACR window stayed open until I clicked Open Image. So I checked Suppress File Open Options Dialog in the Batch command. That fixed that problem. But Batch left all the files open in Photoshop, didn't close any of them.
So I went back into my action and added a file close. While recording the action I clicked Yes to save changes before closing the file.
However, the batch now pops up that same dialog box after each file asking me if I want to save the file before exiting. This defeats the whole purpose of the Batch command.

Do not use Batch, use one of the available Image Processor scripts instead.  If your RAW files have been converted before and have associated ACR setting, The RAW files will be converted  using these settings by ACR and ACR will bypass displaying its dialog. If the RAW files have no associated ACR settings the Image Processor scripts have an option that you can use to have the Image Processor open the first RAW file via ACR  where ACR will open its dialog. The settings you set will be used to convert all the RAW files processed in the current run of the Image Processor.
Image Processor Pro is available on the web for downloading and is more flexible and powerful then the Image Processor that is shipped with Photoshop. You can set it up to save as many Image File for each file processed. The size and File Type you need.
You can have the Image Processor Pro include in its process an action you create for file that are saved. It can be the same action or different action for each of the file save you set up.

  • Can't select files when using Automate batch command

    Hi all,
I'm having a huge problem here.
I am working with CS3 on a mac (leopard).
I batch process (when applying actions) all the time using the Automate/Batch process command.
I have been doing this for years on my computer but all of a sudden it has developed a problem. When I bring up the batch command and select a source folder, I am not able to select any of the files (jpgs/tiffs) . They are not highlighted for me to select them.
So far I have deactivated and re-installed CS3 on my computer. Still not working. So, I have downloaded CS3 onto my laptop and taken the files from my desktop onto the laptop and the problem is the same. Like I said, this has just started happening for no reason after years of working fine.
    Please, please, can anyone help.
    Thx.
    Richard.

I hardly use the feature, so I may have missed some change, but »Folder« seems to indicate that You are to select a Folder, not Files.

  • How to flip multiple frames using batch command

    Using Fireworks 8.
I have a document with over 200 frames. In the "Command"
--> "Batch Commands" menu I have the option of rotating and or
    blurring multiple or individual frames.
What I'd really like to do is flip all 200 frames
horizontally but there is no option to do this simultaneously.
    Or is there?
Tell me I'm not stuck with the only option of flipping each
    frame individually.
I flipped one frame and saved my actions as a command but
this "Flip" command could not be applied to multiple frames.
    Help me out.
    Thanx.

You'll need to use the onion skinning feature of the Frames
    panel, as
    Alex indicated.
Go to the frames panel. Set all frames to onion skinning (the
    box on the
left side of each frame - click on the top frame in the onion
    skin box,
then click on the bottom frame. You will see a line
    connecting all the
frames) then click and drag over your entire canvas area to
    select all
the frames. If you saved the command, you will find it at the
    bottom of
    the Commands menu.
This does work, I just did it.

  • How to make previous version documents(CS1 and CS3) without extension  readable in InDesign CS5

I have some previous version documents of CS1 and CS3  on Mac  which have been saved without any extension e.g 300, CS3doc etc.
When I open such documents in InDesign CS5 they appear to be unreadable .  Only on  selecting 'All documents' filter  I am able to open those documents.
I want to make all such documents (which are without extension) readable with 'All Readable Documents ' also .
How I can do that, please  help me !!!!!

The first thing I'd do is make sure the issue is really what I suspect it is - i.e. I suspect your extension-less documents don't have the proper type and creator.
If you fire up a Terminal window, you should be able to use the GetFileInfo command to check one of the files:
Assume 'sampleFile' is sitting on your desktop, you'd do
    GetFileInfo ~/Desktop/sampleFile
(not sure when/whether GetFileInfo is installed on a Mac - I think it used to be part of Apple's developer tools, but on my Snow Leopard it resides in /usr/bin)
Check what it says for 'type' and 'creator'.
If these are not correct, we've confirmed that that's the reason why they don't show up in your file dialog.
If the issue is type/creator related, I can think of the following options:
    a) Change your code to accept ANY file type/extension - I suspect this would work (not tested!):
    openFileDialog->AddType( '????' );
If memory serves right, '????' should be accepted as a wildcard.
    b) correct the file types BEFORE they are viewed in the File Dialog - for example, if these files are in a very specific folder somewhere, you might be able to scan the folder, and correct their type and creator (e.g. iterate through all extensionless files in folder 'xyz' and change their type and creator). A lot depends on how those files get there, and whether they are tied to a specific folder or not - are they 'old' files, or are they being generated in some workflow? If they're all over a user's system or all over a file server, such pre-scanning and cleaning up file types approach will be a no-go.
    Cheers,
    Kris

  • Add layers from other psd file via action/batch (Or possibly script)

    Hi
Brand new to this forum. Quick intro: Eivind from Norway, 32, Photographer, Nikon D300, CS5
I have tried to make a action where i open 2 files, duplicate the layers from file2 to file1 and it works fine.
But running the action as a batch i get in trouble, the action saves the from and to filenames when i duplicate the layers.
Then i found the place function (File - Place..) but i ran in to trouble here also. When i place a psd file containing the layers it becomes smart objects and i can't edit the text layers directly.
Background: I have a script that copys info from the filename to specific labeled text layers in photoshop. (Name_Age_Title.jpg) so i can batch process lots of files and add info boxes from the filename (Fantastic) Only problem is the i want to make lots of different layouts, logos, fonts. And no i have to adjust the action for every change. Would have been perfect to just have a action/batch/script opening the file, adding the layers from a template1.psd file, running the script adding text to the text layers and saving.
    Any ideas?
    Eivind

    No comments on this one?
Maybe i have to do the scriping way, any ideas?

  • Combine functionality Batch Create Multiple files and Set Security

    Greetings,
Is there any way to combine the functionality of Acrobat Pro’s “Batch Create Multiple Files” (File (drop down) -> Create PDF -> Batch Create Multiple Files…) and running a batch process (Advanced -> Document Processing -> Batch Processing -> Batch Sequences -> Set Security)?
    Ideally I’d like to either:
    1)      Add the “Set Security” batch process to the “Batch Create Multiple Files … command located under the File (drop down) -> Create PDF
    or
    2)      Be able to create a batch process that first allows me to select the documents (Word, Excel, etc.) I want to convert into PDF files, then converts them, then runs the Set Security batch process.
Right now it isn’t too much trouble to first “Create Multiple Files…” then run the batch process Set Security, but it would be nice to be able to do both with a single command.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    TPK

  • Command line parameters and resuming

    Hi,
I am researching for a client who wishes to have several students (K-12) using Adobe Captivate course on the same computer. Another constraint is that a course is run from DVD (1+ GB in size) so it's published as standalone application (.exe for Windows, .app for Mac). Quick questions:
Can a course have an action to parse command line parameters? I haven't found that.
Explanation: this would be used to simply parse a name and e-mail address (if possible) and last module passed to a course player. Resuming could be disabled (there is an answer how to do that in the forum) or overridden but the learner should be transferred to a slide to resume based on the calling parameter (and not the default resuming - there will be several users so each must resume from the last passed module slide).
Can a progress of the current learner using the course be saved to a database (no LMS, e-mail, Acrobat.com etc)?
Explanation: this is needed for the current learner and for each one separately. I guess I already have a solution in mind (custom application, having small internal web server like Mongoose, with a script that replaces internalServerReporting.php and saves the data to a internal database, SQLite). But for this to work spawning a course with command line parameters and course itself reading these parameters would need to work.
If there is a (better) solution for the above, please reply. The goal is have minimal changes on the course e.g. if there are command line parameters, then parse them and do something (mark modules passed, open appropriate next slide). If parameters are not given/recognized, do nothing (so the course would still work on computers used by one learner only, including resuming etc).
My opinion is that this should also be one-way as much as possible. E.g. additional application handles user name, e-mail and current progress and spawns Captivate course. The published course itself should not depend on the application like reading progress from a text file (though an URL call could return current progress from an application for the same user name). So ideally only changes to use internal server publishing to save current progress and adding a logic to check parameters at start would be applied to a course.
    Waiting for your smart answers.
    Matt

DVDs, when finalized, are read-only... so unless you are considering to do an Install of the course from the DVD to the machine, you're not going to be able to write to a database.  A USB stick may be more suitable in this situation.
Command line params are not possible with EXEs unless you create your own EXE wrapper.  If you're going to go through that trouble, you'd be better off creating an Adobe Air application that can run your local web content without security restrictions and use SQLite or some other backend to store the data.
Can the progress be saved?  It depends what you mean by progress.  If you just want to allow the student to resume from the slide where they left off... you can do that with a bit of JavaScript.  However, if you want to ensure that any previous questions answered on a quiz were also resumed and intact from the previous session... not possible without an LMS.
Why not run a Moodle installation via a USB stick and you can have a full featured LMS with a database and ability to resume a previous session?
    http://docs.moodle.org/19/en/Installation_guide_-_Moodle_for_Windows_on_a_USB_Memory_Stick
    Just some things to consider...
