Action cam and vibrations

I just got an X1000V.  It works great most of the time, but today I attached it (by suction mount) to my snowboard. NONE of the films worked.  For some reason the files corrupted.  Sometimes when I stopped and checked the camera it had 'hung', it was unresponsive. Has anyone else had this problem?  I'll probably take it back under warranty.

Hi pletharoe,
We're sorry to hear this. The action cam can be used in temperatures between -10°C and +40°C (14°F and 104°F). We would recommend sending the camera in for further evaluation and repairs.

  • Corrupt Files on 4GEE Action Cam

Hi Friends I have this 4GEE Action which to fair is usually a fantastic bit of kit, except I keep running out of data from streams but thats another story. Recently Ive been usng it with a 64GB Samsung SD Card and have done since having it. For some reason all my recordings past a certain point are corrupted and wont playback on quicktime or VLC (I should point out im using a Macintosh) I have re-formatted the card and that seems OK, Reset the action cam and that seems OK as well. The camera does pick up the full 7hrs of recording time and the 16K+ of photographs so clearly the memory is readable on the card. Is anyone able to shed some light on this? I go on a diving holiday in 10 days so would love to work this out. Many thanks for any help you kind people push my way.

  • 4GEE Action Cam file splitting

Hi all,  I've just purchased one of the new 4GEE action cams and am using it out running or cycling. If i'm out for any length of time then the camera is splitting the video up into roughly 12 minute segments. Is there any way i can turn this off so that the entire video is recorded to one larger file as I have plenty of room on the memory card. EE said it was to do with protecting people's data allowances but I have my data turned off and I'm not streaming anyway. Thanks in advance

Hi   (and , ), I checked in with someone on our Action Cam team and found the information below. I hope it helps! Let me know.
The camera supports FAT32 which is basically how the camera more efficiently stores memory. We’ve designed the camera so it splits files every 2GB of data making it easier for customers to download each segment. The camera doesn’t stop recording but for example an 8GB card would have 4 split files making it easier to download and edit those files.
So - I'm afraid you can't switch it off, as it's not a setting that can be changed. Unfortunately not. It’s a software thing so not a setting that can be changed.
Will that work out ok for you in the end ? Your feedback using the Action Cam is really useful so if there's anything from your experience which I can pass back to the team - I'm all ears!

I fixed the problem somewhat myself by removing the miniSD and manually inserting it. It did not populate automatically. I had to open iPhoto and then it populated only the most recent photos I had taken which fortunately were the only ones I need. No error messages this seems to be a new occurrence.
Is there a way to just turn iPhoto off and download my photos to the folder of my own choosing?

Sure - in the iPhoto prefercences set action when a camera is ocnnected to Image Capture

  • Sony Action Cam (HDR-AS10 or HDR-AS15)

The new Sony Action Cam(s) (models - HDR AS10 & HDR AS15) were just released a few days ago...Any idea when Best Buy will stock this product in their inventory? Both are available via Sony's website, Amazon, and even 3rd party vendors, but Best Buy has yet to have any info on it. I tried calling customer service, but they were unable to provide me with a date. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

    Hi m4siuda,
I did hear back on this, and all I can say is I wouldn't expect us to be carrying these in our stores in the near future. They might be available on BestBuy.com relatively soon, and the best I can suggest is to keep checking back.

  • Web cameras and photo booth

I just picked up a Creative Live ! Cam video IM Pro.
The device is UVC complaint. However it will quit occasionally while in photo booth and I will need to unplug/plug from the usb port to get it operating again. This web cam stuff is all new to me. Can I use this device to record into Imovie ? I'm running 10.5.2on a mac pro.
    Thanks

    You're welcome, joe musich
what can I do with the camera I've got with imovie ?
    Nothing directly with iMovie.
As shown in this Apple kBase article, you need an external (Firewire) iSight or other "IIDC" webcam for recording directly into iMovie with any external webcam. All IIDC webcams connect via Firewire, so no external USB webcam will work to record directly into iMovie.
You can work around this limitation by recording video clips with an application that can use USB webcams like QuickTime Pro. Then import the saved clip into iMovie for editing.
FYI, the built-in iSights in many current Mac models are the only USB webcams that work and allow live monitoring of what is being recorded directly with iMovie. EVERY external USB camera, whether camcorder or webcam, would need to record the video first and import that into iMovie for editing.
Will I be able to see live action form the camera in imovie ?
No, not with your external USB cam and iMovie. Using QT Pro or another app that can record directly from your USB webcam, you will be able to monitor the video action in that app.
Or do I have to import something I capture with the camera ?
Yes, when using your USB webcam and trying to edit with iMovie. To get video from your (or any) external USB cam into iMovie, you must import a previously saved compatible file.
Please let us know if you need any other info before you can mark this topic "Answered."
    Cheers,

  • Oregon Scientific ATC5K action cam - does it work with iMovie / Leopard?

I'm looking at getting an ATC5K for a skiing trip but the specs say it is only compatible with OS X 10.4 (Leopard) and below. Can anyone confirm if it works ok with 10.5.x and iMovie?
    Thanks

I've just got my ATC5K and I can confirm that you can import the AVI file format from it into iMovie without converting into a DV stream. iMovie will not pick it up automatically, you have to use the import movie option, but it works fine. As an aside, iPhoto picks it up automatically and treats it as a camera movie which at then end of the day I guess it is.
For a cheap, entry level action cam it's pretty good and I can't wait to try it out in anger on slopes!

  • Sony hdr-as100v action camera

I have a sony hdr-as100v action camera that i want to download pictures and videos from.  Sony manual says to download "PlayMemories" software and use, but it will not load.  My MacBook Air system is OS 10.6.8.
I am not sure if IPhoto will recognize and serve as the application for the camera.
    Any suggestions or experiences?
    SG

Doubtful iPhoto will recognize the camera but there's a workaround. Use the Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Launch Image Capture then connect the camera to your Mac.
The camera should show up under Devices top left side of the Image Capture window.
Now look at the bottom left side of the window. Click the: Connecting this (device) opens: pop up menu and select an application to import your photos.
Alternatively, you can also select iPhoto to import photos from the Import To: pop up menu.
Selet the photos you want to import then click Import or Import All on the right.
More help is available from the Image Capture menu bar. Click Help > Image Capture Help

Well, a few Effects, that might help - a little, would be Curves, Levels and Shadow & Highlight, along with the Three-way Color Corrector. However, the success will depend on the footage. Can you post a Vimeo, or YouTube example, as once one sees what you are working with, they may have other ideas. Good luck, and welcome to the forums, Hunt

I have a contour action camera but I can't download the software to my phone as it is not compatable with Safari. Has anyone got a way to solve this problem?

What model TC is this? How old and on what firmware?
Do a full factory reset of the TC.. they do not like a change of setup.
Remember changes to router require a power down of the modem for long periods.. maybe 30min maybe longer.

    Hi PatrikWWDC,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
Yes, you can do live streaming using the FDRX1000V action cam. You can use UStream to stream your videos live online. Here is a guide on how to prepare the camera for Live Streaming.

  • Actor/Writer must purchase a video camera and mac computer. Please help!

I'm an aspiring actor who has decided to purchase a camera and mac computer. I decided this after much contemplation regarding my current situation. I'm leaving too much in other's hands by holding out hopes to use student film footage for my reel. The truth is, of the student films I've acted in, the quality of each film is mediocre at best. I'm not comfortable with the idea that putting my best foot forward with agents and managers submission packages (headshot, resume, reel, letter) will be these films.
The bottom line is, I want to take full control of the situation. And by doing that, I want to purchase a camera and mac computer to edit and burn the footage with (writing my own scenes, gathering Boston and NYC based actors via Craigslist). I should add that my desire to buy a camera goes beyond creating my reel. I also have a strong interest in putting together some short films I've written.
I don't know much about cameras, so I guess the first question is do I get a standard or HD camera. Also, do I opt for something like a Canon XL2, or aim for something under a grand? A good friend mentioned once that if I wanted to start shooting films to submit to festivals, then to go for a XL2. How long would it take me to learn how to use said camera? What would the difference be if I aim for something under a grand quality wise? If I don't get such a pricey camera, than I'm looking at a mini dv based camera.
I want to do my full on research before I invest in anything. Price is not an issue. Everything is going on credit cards and I want this to be the main focus on my life. My reel and my short films. With the reel coming first.
As for a mac, I'm thinking about a macbook pro, unless anyone here suggests otherwise? It has to be a laptop for when I move back to Manhattan in the fall with my finished reel.
Any and all comments are greatly appreciated in advance. Feel free to ask me any follow up questions if you need more info to make a suggestion.
A huge thank you in advance. Cheers.

    Dear Blair:
Because you and I are in similar
    circumstances, I decided to add
your thread to my active list.
You can see my writing in Goat's
    thread, "choosing a camera," to
    recognize the similarities and
    differences in our positions.
In a nutshell, I am gearing up
    for music video production, both
custom order for bands and for
    cable release.
I can tell you a couple of things
    about ordering your Mac Pro.
    Most everything has already been
taken care of by Mac, but be sure
to option the 7200 rpm hard drive.
    The price diference is negligible,
    but the recommendation regards
    audio quality.
Second, be sure to get the 4mb
    L2 cache, not the 2mb. I think 4mb
is standard, but check it out.
The reason is that with long runs,
the cache does not have the chance
to refresh itself as often as it
would in, say, web surfing, where
you stop and go frequently. I was
uncdertain about this when I ordered,
    but fortunately, the machine came
    thrugh with a 4 mb L2.
I thinnk you are all right ordering the
MacBook Pro at this time. I have no
regrets. Still, there are things to
be considered, and that's where I am
right now. So, see the thread and keep
in touch. There are a couple of outstanding
contributors to the thread, ian and integron,
    to name two.
In your field, post dubbing is going to
be very important to you, am I right?
To get the best quality you want a
synced scratch voice track and capacity
to improve it in the studio. So, in
your search, be sure your rig supports
true voice overs, meaning, you can listen
to the original audio while watching the
action, and over dub a studio quality
    track. Remeber, everytime the cameraman
moves the camcorder, the mike moves. You can
    see the problem.
In my case, music video, live, I want
a separate audio master, which goes into
the release track along with effects and
narration, and that master has to be good
quality and consistent level. Got me?
In your case, what they call a scratch track
is the basis for later studio reproduction,
I mean, you watch the picture and lip sync the
    words.
You mention camera and that is what we are
talking about in the thread mentioned. I have
used Adobe Premiere, so I assume Final Cut
is going to do the job. I did add Final Cut
Express to my Mac order, and it came in the
package as a CD, for an extra $80. I think
it will have been worth it.
So, those are the only three options I asked
for when I ordered the Mac -- the cache, the
    HD speed, and the FCE.
Like you, I am looking at the Canon and the
Sony tape storage. Before I jump. I want to
be danged sure the MacPro will support editing
functions. We are discussing now the CCD vs.
the CMOS and there are several issues. I am
hoping to shoot Hi Def wide screen original,
loking ahead. I don't htink that may be an
issue with you. As I see it, you want to basically
    demonstrate your talent. However, editorial
ease and control should be an issue with you.
Remeber, the studios are run by very conservative
people, so you might lay low on the tech dazzle
and pitch to the fundamentals of acting with
a nuts and bolts presentation they are more
likely to respond to as opposed to drawing
attention to the technology, which to them
    simply represents more unwanted investment.
    Best wishes,
    Ed Shaw

  • Action Cam, Recording blank files

I have an action cam with a 64gb Sandisk Card, when i set it to record it will record files of 10-12 mins at a time instead of continuous, which is fine, but after 4 files the 5th an on are totally blank, they had a data size, 1.77gb, a file name as normal, and a type .mp4 as normal. But there is no no video same with any photographs, the are all blank........ When I later added a new file without the watch it was a blank file again, if using the watch instead of just the button on camera, it works fine again. Does this mean I need to always use the watch, I paddleboard and the watch is just a pain to use all the time....

I was having exactly the same problem and fingers crossed I have sussed it.  Well it worked for me, hopefully you too! The problem I had was I got a 64GB card and noticed as soon as the clip got to anythinging bigger than a few hundred MB it would not download to PC or play back for love nor money, either through the PC or the Camera app on iphone/ipad etc.  I have seen EE's advice, download VLC.  Well I tried that and I tried every player I had, Itunes, VLC, etc etc, all coming back with various messages, mainly saying the codec must be corrupted.  EE were unable to help so..... Try formatting the card from the camera itself and not in the PC. It's in the settings, just go through the menu and you will find it. Format it in situ and voila! Now  I did not do this previously beacuse as soon as i got the card and put it in the camera it seemed to work fine as I did a quick short clip to test it.  It seemed that as they get bigger they did not work.  Unfortunately you will lose everything you have recorded and you will not be able to recover them. I can say it has worked perfectly since, any size and EVERY time.  Good luck and if this works, pass it on!  It seems a common problem so hopefully, if this works for everyone, EE will add it onto the quick links.

  • Camera and video screen is all pink and will no longer take pictures/video

Please help. My iPhone 3Gs camera and video were working just fine until today. When I open the camera app, the shot opens up pink and begins flashing and will only take a picture or video of the pink it is displaying. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thank you so much to anyone who is able to help me.

Restart, Reset and Restore, in that order. If those actions do not work, you will need to take it in for service.

When trying to record, i get error 513 on my phone app, and the triangle on the camera screen photos work fine and i have also tried different recorning modes, and it makes no difference all i want to do is record not stream. thanksBen

Are you just using the internal memory? Not sure why you are getting this error, but if you do not have the recording on a loop, then it could be full and there is only space for taking photos. Otherwise I would suggest ringing EE, it appears they have a dedicated team for the action cam.
