Action Keys

I wanted the action keys to work with no need of pressing the fn key. Action keys were already enabled in BIOS. I switched them to disabled still did not work. I put it back to enabled. The same thing. Action Keys don't work at all. How can i fix this?

Install this update, see if it gets the function keys working  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355 "Function keys don't work if IME is enabled in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2" scroll down the page to find the direct download link (method 2), download it then double click the file to install.

  • "Action Keys" mode turns itself back on after waking from sleep

    Hi gang,
    I've recently bought a Folio 13, and have disabled "Action Keys Mode" in the BIOS so that the function keys work as expected.
    However, if the machine goes into sleep mode, the function keys revert to their default behaviour (that is, I have to hold down "Fn" if I want to hit F5).
    Rebooting the notebook fixes the problem, as the BIOS setting has not changed.
    How can I *permanently* disable "Action Keys Mode" so that it stays disabled even when the notebook goes into sleep mode?
    Cheers,
    Matt

    I had this problem - you can update the BIOS and it will correct the issue. I received a BIOS update via HP Support.

  • How to Disable a PARTICULAR action key?

    Hi,
    I know how to turn off action keys from BIOS. What i want to is just disable the help action of the F1key. I basically want it o have no fuction (so that it would perform the assigned function for the game) like the f5 key on my Envy 15t. I use the f1 key in games, since every time i press it it opens up the help, i want to disable it. However, i do not want to disable the rest and want to be able use them without having to press the FN key.
    I am not sure if there is a solution to this problem but i would still love to hear some suggestions.
    Thank You.

    Hi,
    If just for Windows XP: you should be able to disable the help stuff by disabling the Help and Support service. (start->type services.msc->press enter).
    And for Windows 7 (Vista could be the same):

  • Action key on mw1

    Hello,
    I have puchased few days ago an mw1 as an upgrade of the mw600,but I expected to be able to associate the action key to launch a custom app like "Cyberon Voice Commander" as well as I did on the previous model. is it possible?
    Best regards
    Stefano

    As far as I know, no, it's not possible. Might be some 3rd party app for it, but I haven't heard of any.

  • CS6 Photoshop; Shortcut Action Key will not work

    On my Mac I have Adobe Photoshop installed and I created an action for a watermark for my images.
    It works just fine when I manually press the play button, however the shortcut key, that I've assinged as Shift + F2, will not work. I've tried different combinations and nothing is working.
    Any suggestions on what I can do to so it will work?

    Figured it out, it's because I had to press fn along with Shift + F2

  • How to use the Function keys as function keys instead of action keys?

    When I press F1 or any of the other F keys it does what the symbol says on the key (volume/skip track etc).
    How do I actually use the F keys and not the symbols?

    Hi again John,
    ...is there a way to switch that around so I use the "fn" key for sound etc?
    Do the following:
    1. Fire up System Preferences
    2. Select Keyboard & Mouse
    3. Select the Keyboard tab.
    4. Tick the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" box.
    That's it. You have now reversed the default use of the function keys. If you need to increase/decrease sound, brightness etc then press 'fn' plus the appropriate function key.

  • Bug in BasicTabbedPaneUI Action keys?

    Can someone tell me if the following is a bug or purposeful behavior:
    in jdk1.4.1 I map keystroke F5 to the BasicTabbedPaneUI action "navigateNext". This action eventually gets passed down to the navigateSelectedTab(int direction) method.
    In the first switch statement, it does:
    switch(tabPlacement) {
    case NEXT:
    selectNextTab(current);
    break;
    HOWEVER, tabPlacement is defined to be SwingConstants.TOP, in fact, NEXT isn't EVER even a valid value for the JTabbedPane tabPlace. This action class therefore won't ever do anything.
    Lastly, I'd like to complain that all the action classes in BasicTabbedPaneUI are private. In fact, a lot of UI class methods are private when I'd really prefer to subclass them.
    Thanks.

    Yes, that looks like a bug to me. The NEXT and PREVIOUS values are supposed to indicate the direction of navigation, not the placement of the tabs. They should either check for those values before going into the switch, or add them to the inner switches, after the tab placement has been determined.
    Those two values were added to SwingConstants in jdk1.4, and it looks like someone screwed up retrofitting BasicTabbedPaneUI to use them. (This is exactly the kind of bug that typesafe enums are meant to prevent; too bad we had to wait until jdk1.5 for those.) Do you want to file the bug report, or should I?

  • Help in game action keys

    Hi i am modifying my main menu so that the user can just press a number between 1-5 and it will auto launch the corresponding menu ie 1. play 2. options and if the user presses the number 2 key, the options screen appears.
    My problem is that i have mapped the key number 5 to one of the options but when pressed, it has the same behavior has a gameaction FIRE key.
    I have the FIRE key doing somthing else and so when the user presses 5, it does somthing that corresponds to my earlier code implementaion for the FIRE key instead of loading the screen i want it to.
    here is my key listener code
    if(keyCode == KEY_NUM1 && loggedIn)
                       //do something
            else if(keyCode == KEY_NUM2 && loggedIn)
                        //do somthing
            else if(keyCode == KEY_NUM3 && loggedIn)
                    ///do somthing
            else if(keyCode == KEY_NUM4 && loggedIn)
                        //do somthing
            else if(keyCode == KEY_NUM5 && loggedIn)
                        //do somthing
            else if(gameAction == FIRE)
                //do something
            }thanks guys

    it is not possible...
    keys cannot change their code !! 3 is KEY3 and 4 is KEY4 !!! (etc...)
    the problem may come from keyCode var and loggedIn var !!!

  • Ghost/Sticky/Unresponsive/Incorrect action keys.

    I've got a MacBook Pro 2011, with all the nice updates and everything running smoothly. I never drink around my MacBook and I typically wash my hands before I use it, just in case they're greasy or have dirt on them. Just today, while I was using my computer, I got up to do somthing, when from the kitchen I heard the "alert" sound being repeated over and over and over. Like a cat has stepped on it. MY cat is no where near the laptop, as it's just sat there, dinging (the laptop, not my cat). I look down on the screen and about 40 lines of "///////" are written out in my open word document (but the other one that faces to the left---whose key is not reacting now). After a few minutes of battling it, I was able to get it to stop by either pressing Escape enough or Delete, I can' tell. But the dinging kept going. I restarted. Upon booting up the dinging continued so I opened a TextEdit to see what key was doing it now, and once again it was the "///////" (but of course, the other one). I pressed delete again, thinking I've just got a stuck key, when my Volume sound effect began popping, and the logo on the screen showed it going from mute to up to down to down to up. I pressed delete and it stopped. I tried the volume keys myself and by pressing the Down Volume key, it seemed to be battling the Up key, and the logo went back and forth from one square being given to one taken, as if I had two fingers on both keys and was clicking them back and forth, at the same time. I tried the Key Bightness keys, and no logo came up on the screen---no sound either, but the light did change under the keys. I tried the Mission Control and Launch Pad keys, and nothing worked. I tried the Contrast keys and like the Volume, they seemed to be battling each other: by pressing the Increase key, it doubled with the Decrese key, and the audio pop sound and the logo on screen jerked back and forth.
    I've restarted. I've tried resetting the SMC and PRAM settings. I've done everything I can find on these boards to do aside from taking it in to the Genius Bar (which I've already reserved for tomorrow) and re-installed Mavericks (which I am doing right now).
    Is there anything else anyone could think to do? And yes, I've checked for "Sticky Keys" to be turned on in Accessabilty.

    Since I typed this, a few minutes ago, I tested my Volume, Key Contrast, Launch Pad, Mission Control and Contrast Keys and they all work now save the Decrease Contrast key, which makes the screen go darker as per usual, but the on-screen logo shows the Contrast logo fighting with the Up volume one; and the volume sound pops as if the volume key was being pressed as well.
    Well here's a weird thing too. Pressing the Increase Contrast key also gives me a "`````" on here, as if I were hiting the ` key. AND NOW (some key, I can't figure out which one yet..) is opening iTunes and starting a song as if I pressed the Play/Pause key! What in the word is going on?!

  • ZSH "action keys" (Pos1, End, Enter) not working sometimes

    Hey guys and gals,
    I already posted a "general" topic here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=183875
    Now to my shell issues: In zsh, when I for example Ctrl+C out of yaourt and then press Enter or Pos1 or End or basically anything else than letters/numbers and modkeys, I get the console text equivalent (for example ^M with Enter, don't know how to call it).
    How do I fix this?

    If the suggested battery pull reboot has no effect, It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
    Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out.
    It really is more common than you think.
    1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
    2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
    3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
    3. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
    *Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
    Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
    On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
    On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

  • HP Split x2 - F5 key has no action

    When I first bought my HP Split x2 my function/action keys had action mode enabled (i.e. hitting f2 dims the screen, hitting f6 mutes audio - without using the fn key) but f5, which has no secondary function, still worked as just "F5", refreshing web pages, etc.
    Last week I tried using Google Chrome in Windows 8 mode and the F5 key no longer worked to refresh a web page.  No idea if this is related, but it's when I noticed it.  Now I've switched back to using Chrome in desktop mode and the f5 key still doesn't work.  fn+f5 works, but hitting the f5 key on its own does absolutely nothing (again - it's the only function key without a secondary action).  Is there a way to get f5's functionality back without losing the functionality of my mute, brightness, etc. buttons.
    I know how to enable/disable the action keys in BIOS.  tried disabling and then re-enabling, but it didn't get me where I want to be.
