Action "mode" in PSE5

Is there an "Actions" Palette in Photoshop Elements 5? I purchased this to be able to touch up my underwater photos. A book by a couple specifically mention this but is it only in the full photoshop? Also, I cannot find the Adobe Studio area on the website.
Thank you.

Thanks. This is what I figured after going through the main screen and the manual does not mention actions. But since latley manuals are pretty light, I thought I would ask.
The actions I was looking for was an easy fix for underwater photos. As you may knowm they are severely skewed to the blue especially for snorkelers who can't get down too deep and without a dedicated hot shoe flash. I use a Canon A70 and the flash is weak in this sitaution. I set the white balance as Canon suggests.
I have been using either histogram layers but I am a little weak on layers. What seems to work real well is to use auto level, then auto color correction and auto contrast. I guess that would be something similar to what an action would do anyway.
Thanks for the replies.

  • Default Action/Effect in an Action Set in PSE5

    I have a Photoshop action set that contains a "main" action that performs some functionality and calls a bunch of "sub" actions. The main action is listed first in the set and is automatically picked up as the default action and executes successfully when installed into PSE6, PSE7 & PSE8 and also works as expected in a German version of PSE5 but in an English version of PSE5, somehow the second action (ie a "sub" action) is being executed rather than the first. Is there any way of configuring the default action or forcing PSE5 to recognize the first action as the action to run? If not, does anyone know what algorithm PSE uses to determine the action to run? The action being run isn't first (or last) alphabetically nor positioned first (or last) in the action set. Any thoughts/assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks for the response. I think I confused things by bringing up the German version... The action was created in a standard English version of PS CS2 then adjusted and resaved in a standard English version of PS7. It was then packaged and tested in English (and non-English) versions of CS3, CS4, CS5, PSE6, PSE7 & PSE8 without any issues. It was also tested in a German version of PSE5 and worked without any concerns but when tested in 2 different standard English versions of PSE5, it appears that the second action in the action set is the one that is being recognized and run, rather than the first action in the set. The first action is named as "Make Patterned Papers" and the other 20 or so actions are named as "code -- (reference number)" in a lame attempt to slightly obscure the functionality from the PS users. The first "code -- (reference number)" action listed after the "Make Patterned Papers" is the one that is being picked up by PSE5 as the action to run. The actions are not listed in alpha/numeric order and the action that is being picked up by PSE5 is not the first alphabetically either. I tried copying all of the actions to a new action set and using this instead, but had the same result.

  • Collections Action mode - What does it do? BRM 7.3.0

    We're on an old version here and I'm pretty sure that this functionality has been superseded by the action dependency feature, but I still can't figure out if this does anything. An agent can cancel mandatory tasks just the same as optional ones. I dug through the documentation, knowledge base, and archives with no luck.

    Hi Eric,
    The "Fast Roaming" is primarily for Wireless Voice Apps so probably not applicable here.
    The fact that you have disabled Agressive Load Balancing is an excellent call here as it is used for areas with Multiple AP's in close proximity.
    The "User Idle Timeout" is set at 5 minutes by default but can be changed (as indicated below)
    There are two timers that control the users association information called Idle Timeout and Session Timeout. Both of these timers can be changed. These are the default timers:
    Idle Timeout - (300 seconds)
    Session Timeout - (1800 seconds)

  • Custom PSE5 actions not alphabetical when displayed in the pallette.

    I’m not getting much input (1 response) on the WINE forums for this so I thought I’d try here on the Arch forums.  The PC having issues is currently running Arch 2.6.38 x86_64 version, and the Wine version is 1.3.17.  I’d just updated the system before installing PhotoShop Elements and discovering the issues below so I don’t know if things would have “worked” before the update, though I would guess not.
    Problem:
    I am trying to migrate my wife's PC to Linux and doing that requires she retain access to PSE5 (Photoshop Elements 5) so using another program, like GIMP, is unfortunately not an option. PSE5 installed and starts flawlessly and all the generic actions that came preinstalled with it seem to be fine. However I have a few folders with custom actions that are “loosing” the alphabetical sort when Photoshop builds the Artwork and actions databases when PSE5 is started. If I use the file manager to browse to the folder everything looks as it should. However when PSE5 starts and we use the Artwork pallete to navigate to the Photo Effects folder the actions are displayed in jumbled order and the thumbnail images are in an even different order so nothing is sorted and nothing matches.  I'd really like to fix the issue so I can get everything to be in the proper order with matching icons without manual intervention because I'll have to redo everything with every new custom action my wife decides she needs.
    Affected folder:
    ~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/5.0/Photo Creations/special effects/photo effects/CoffeShop Actions
    Unaffected folders:
    ~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/5.0/Photo Creations/special effects/photo effects/frames
    ~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/5.0/Photo Creations/special effects/photo effects/image effects
    Equivalent Window XP path of affected folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Photo Creations\special effects\photo effects\CoffeeShop Actions
    Here are a few of the 23 total actions in the affected folder and where they fall in the displayed order. As I said above I've tried renaming them in various ways and while it will change the order it never fixes it to be correct, alphabetically. I can provide a few more, or even the full list if needed but this short list will at least highlight the problem.
    CoffeeShop Baby PowderRoom.atn - should be 1st but is displayed 6th
    CoffeeShop Moody Pop.atn - should be 10th but is displayed 1st
    CoffeeShop Vintage Blush.atn – should be 20th but is displayed 5th
    CoffeeShop Eye Bright.atn – should be 5th but is displayed 11th.
    Also here are a few cropped down images of the palette window area showing the menu that's borked and ones that work. I am hopeful this will help my explanation of the problem.
    This first image is just to show the menu's how's these actions are accessed. (Note it also happens to be the actions that are not sorting properly.)
    This image shows default actions that were loaded with PSE5 and the proper display sorting. Note the cursor is being held over the middle action icon to show the tool tip that pops up matches the action name under the icon and the icon shows the correct image for the action.
    This next image shows the unsorted data being discussed. I am holding the cursor over the top left-most icon and the tool tip matches the text at the bottom but the icon is for some Baby Powder effect thing. If you look through what's visible you will see that the icons are being loaded in correct alphabetical order but the actual action files are not.
    Wine from the terminal doesn't seem to complain about anything different with the custom actions folder there or removed but I'm not sure I'd recognize something that could specifically be attributed to this issue and these aren't really “folders to be accessed” in the typical sense. These are action files that do specific things to an image, in this case effects like making the affected image look B&W, give it a golden hue or make it look like a vintage photograph. These are all based on a Media database that is built when PSE starts and used via drop-down boxes in the pallete window. These action files are placed in folders and when PSE launches it reads them looking for new media and if there rebuilds the appropriate database files. Its the database files that are then drawn from to build the pallete menu's. At least that's my understanding of what happens.
    I've checked the thumbs.psd stack and the images are properly ordered alphabetically from bottom to top. I tried changing the order of 6 of the images in the stack to match the order the actions in the pallete window and that worked on those I tested to get the images to match the actions, however the order of the actions in the pallette window is still wonky. I also tried renaming the action files to get rid of spaces, exchange the spaces for an underscore “_”, remove extra words/letters and though sometimes the display order would change it still wouldn't be alphabetical as expected. I've also tried multiple copy/pastes of the folder and even just the files within as well as multiple deletes and rebuilds of the Media and Thumbs databases.
    It was suggested on the WINE forums where I’ve only gotten that single response that I “cd” into the affected folder and then “ls –al” to see if the files look proper.  I did so and everything looks as expected, I also checked those folders where actions are displayed properly and the permissions are the same in all folders and the order in each case alphabetical, in the folder. Yes the action files all work each doing what it is supposed to do but as you can see from my initial post the order in which the actions are displayed are grossly out of any logical sort.
    Please note this all works as expected if I boot the machine into XP so I know all the files are capable of functioning as intended. Also note there are numerous other custom actions in various other paths that are displayed in alphabetical order as expected so it's not a global problem with actions. I'm thinking the problem is in how PSE is building the MediaDatabase.db3 and ThumbDatabase.db3 files when it is launched but why these specific actions are affected is what I'm stumped on. Since I know this is occurring in a few other folders, though not all, I am hoping there is a single fix to the problem.
    Thanks.
    As an aside; what really adds insult to injury in all this is that PSE5 normally takes 2-4 minutes to launch when booted into XP Home but will launch in about 30-45 seconds using WINE. This PC is running a C2D 6420 @ 3.2Ghz with 4Gb of RAM (4x1Gb of DDR2 800) so it's shouldn't be a hardware issue that's causing the slow load time in XP.
    Edited because I accidentally clicked Submit too soon.

    Sudheer a  ,
    hello as far as i have understood your problem ,
    you must have written a logic in the PAI modules when you create a NEW po but when you create with refrence to your existing you need to fethc the Custom TAB fields in the PBO ( Hope in your case they are they are z fields) of your PO
    if you are implimenting  EXIT use the POB module to populate the fields on the customer tab in your screen fields ...!
    Hope my explanation solves your problem

  • Moving Away From Auto Modes

    Moving Away From Auto-Exposure
    Exposure modes
    Auto-exposure mode on your camera does provide generally good photographs, but taking full advantage of the more advanced capabilities of your digital camera will provide even better results. Most modern camera’s have a number of preset exposure modes, and some more advanced cameras’ (especially DSLR’s) have two semi-manual exposure modes and full manual exposure control.
      Portrait mode
    The most common preset is the portrait setting. This mode should have the flash on at all times in case it is needed for correct exposure, as well as isolating the subject in a way that the background and foreground are out of focus and only the subject is in focus.
    Action mode
    Another common preset is the action setting. As the name implies this is a great setting to use if you are photographing sports, or any subject that is moving fast and you want to stop its action.
    Landscape mode
    Landscape preset is also a common preset mode on modern cameras. This mode should have the flash off since the subject is most often outside and well lit, and this mode should also keep detail in the foreground and especially the background in focus.
    Macro mode
    For those of you that like taking images of small subjects (i.e. flowers) most digital cameras also have a preset called macro mode. Macro mode should have the flash on at all times since at higher magnifications even the slightest movement of the subject will blur the image. The flash not only effectively stops the movement of the subject but also evenly illuminates the subject.
    Night mode
    Night mode as the name implies is a preset some camera’s have for taking photographs at night. This mode is generally the least useful preset due to the fact that nighttime photography is perhaps the most challenging photography there is. This mode will turn the flash off, and also turn what’s called noise reduction on. Noise reduction is a setting that helps eliminate the digital noise that is caused by low levels of light on digital camera sensors.
    Semi-manual modes
    Most DSLR’s and some more advanced point and shoot cameras have two semi-manual modes and full manual mode. The semi-manual modes are aperture priority which generally controls what is in focus by adjusting the aperture (the size of the opening in the lens), and shutter priority controls how long the shutter is open which either will blur the image or stop action. The last mode is full manual which allows the user to control both the shutter and the aperture to get the correct exposure allowing the greatest creative control over your images, but requiring the most expertise.
    Moving Away From Auto-Flash
    Turn off your Auto-Flash
    Most digital camera’s while set on auto-flash, especially point and shoot cameras, don’t allow the user to choose when the flash is on or off. This will usually produce adequately exposed images, but just because your subject is correctly exposed doesn’t mean it’s lighted how it should be. Controlling how you light your subject will make the difference between good images and great ones. To do this you should definitely consider moving away from auto-flash.
    Fill Flash
    When shooting outdoors the camera might read that there is enough light and not fire the flash, but if your shooting a subject that is back lit or top lit a small amount of flash will light up your subject and provide superior results ( this is called fill flash ).
    Red eye reduction
    Another flash setting that most cameras provide is red eye reduction. This setting will fire a series of flashes at your subject to contract their pupils so the flash doesn’t reflect the red from their retinas back to the sensor. This mode works fairly well, but due to the time needed for the pre flashes your subject often will have changed by the time the image is actually taken.

    Hey Gabriel,
    You don't have to feel sorry.
    I'm sorry that you feel sorry to people who dislike your products.
    Could you tell me how to precompile JSP files and deploy? And, I would like to turn off JSP compilation functionality on live servers completely.
    What's the benefit of using database pm? I'm aware of tarpm bug where it deletes data tar files during tarpm optimization and index merge. Does databasepm have the same problem?
    If I use databasepm, can I be free from regular maintainance such as datastore garbage collection, tarpm optimization..etc? I find it very difficult to run such maintainance scripts on a live server where the repository is heavily utilized 24/7.
    I wouldn't mind shutting down the server and run those maintanence offline. Actually, it would be much better if I could run through maintanance offline.
    Also, I heard that there is a bug for share nothing clustering for CQ5.4. I'm not sure if this is jackrabbit bug. If CQ instances are all clustered and I can take one out at a time for offline maintance, it would be superb.
    And, what about backups and restoration? Why aren't there set of maintenance scripts? There are documentations with script snippets on knowledgebase... But why aren't there official maintenance tools?
    And, where is a book? There are documentations that explain what dispatcher is, what repository is, how to develop custom components, how to configure repositories, ... etc. But why isn't there a book that covers architecture for production site, application development practices, maintenance know-hows?
    Does this all mean that Adobe does not care for CQ, and it will not pursue CQ as a viable technology stack for ADEP WEM? (which will be an excellent news by the way).
    Or is it Adobe's scheme to monetize support  (less publicaly available documents/books.. more support tickets)?

  • Dynamic actions in HR

    Hi,
    I created implementation for BADI HRECM00_CP2GP.
    Also in configuration dynamic action is set to create IT 0758. this dynamic action will be triggered in case of hire, rehire and change in position actions.
    Now the problem i am facing is.
    I hired a new associate based on some position(say.position 1). Dynamic action is triggered as expected and IT 0758 record also got created with CPGR2 = ABC(ABC is some client specific value which is selected from the logic implemented in my badi. )
    So a IT 0758 record is created with CPGR2 = ABC.
    Till here everything is fine.
    Then i terminated this associate.
    Then i run rehire action with some different position( say . position 2).
    So as expected my badi implementation got triggered. Logic worked fine. Badi returned CPGR2 = DEF(DEF is again a client specific value based on logic in BADI implementation). IT 0758 record got created.
    But here is the problem: When badi returned cpgr2 = DEF than IT 0758 record should have created with CPGR2 = DEF. But instead of this , IT 0758 record got created with CPGR2 = ABC( as it was in previous record. ) .
    But if i try to do this in screen mode. Means i go to PA30, create IT 0758 record from there. Here the same badi is invoked with correct parameters and the new record is created with correct value DEF.
    I am not able to understand why 758 record is created wrongly in dynamic action mode where as in screen mode it is working fine.
    Is it the problem with badi implementation or some configuration problem ?

  • How to identify current row in table from selectOneChoice compact mode

    Hi,
    I have an af:table in which one of the columns is selectOneChoice in compact mode.  Upon selecting item in this selectOneChoice, valueChangeListener is triggered and do some work based on that row.  However, my issue is that it's hard to identify the current row since the selectOneChoice is in compact mode.  If the selectOneChoice is not in compact mode, when user selects item in selectOnechoice, selectionListener of af:table is triggered to identify the current row.  But if selectOneChoice is in compact mode, user is able to select from selectOneChoice and valueChangeListener is triggered before selectionListener of af:table is triggered.  Hence, not able to identify current row.
    As a not so ideal workaround, I tried to put the row identifier (in my case, it's DetailSeq) in shortDesc, and get it from there.  But users is complaining seeing this not user friendly in shortDesc/hintText.  I tried to put DetailSeq as the id of the selectOneChoice, but it didn't work (Cannot get Id of selectOneChoice in table)
    <af:table>
      <af:column headerText="Action" id="c5" width="30">
            <af:selectOneChoice id="a${row.DetailSeq}" autoSubmit="true" valueChangeListener="#{viewScope.backing_requestOverview.onSelectAction}" label="Action" mode="compact" shortDesc="#{row.DetailSeq}">
                <f:selectItems value="#{backing_requestOverview.requestActionsMap[row.StatusUid]}" id="si333"/>
                </af:selectOneChoice>
        </af:column>
    </af:table>
    In the valueChangeListener:
      public void onSelectAction(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
    RichSelectOneChoice actionChoice = (RichSelectOneChoice)valueChangeEvent.getComponent();
    LOGGER.info("Short Desc: " + actionChoice.getShortDesc());
            LOGGER.info("Component Id: " + actionChoice.getId());
    Any advice?
    Thanks
    -Mina

    Hi,
    what about using an f:attribute tag to add the "DetailSeq" to the component. Should work similar to the shortDesc but is invisible. You can then get this attribute value by its name among the component attributes

  • I have a Rebel T3i zoom for action shots??

    I received this camera last year for Christmas. I wanted it to take action shots of my son playing soccer and my daughter horseback riding. It has the lense it came with and I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my lense to get great pictures. I can't seem to zoom in when it's set to action mode is that normal? I'm VERY new to photography. I've read through the users manual but not getting anywhere fast. If it's the lense then which lense would be sufficient for what I would like to do?

    We can't tell you much without knowing what lens you've been using but if you want to shoot day time sports there are a few zooms which can do a good to great job but night sports is a very different thing. Be prepared to dig deep if you're really serious but if you can live with good vs great image quality (No matter which way you go there is a learning curve so allow some time to perfect your technique). On the lower end I'd recommend researching the Tamron 70-300 VC & Canon 70-300 IS. A better lens but also shorter reach wise is the Canon 70-200 f4 L or better yet (& more $) is the 70-200 f4 L IS and even more expensive are the 70-300 L IS & 100-400 L IS but it may be a bit long at the wide end for the soccer.

  • HP Split x2 - F5 key has no action

    When I first bought my HP Split x2 my function/action keys had action mode enabled (i.e. hitting f2 dims the screen, hitting f6 mutes audio - without using the fn key) but f5, which has no secondary function, still worked as just "F5", refreshing web pages, etc.
    Last week I tried using Google Chrome in Windows 8 mode and the F5 key no longer worked to refresh a web page.  No idea if this is related, but it's when I noticed it.  Now I've switched back to using Chrome in desktop mode and the f5 key still doesn't work.  fn+f5 works, but hitting the f5 key on its own does absolutely nothing (again - it's the only function key without a secondary action).  Is there a way to get f5's functionality back without losing the functionality of my mute, brightness, etc. buttons.
    I know how to enable/disable the action keys in BIOS.  tried disabling and then re-enabling, but it didn't get me where I want to be.

    We are facing weird issues in dev related to process scheduler posting
    Tools : PT 848(17)
    Application : HCM 9.0
    Unix Process Scheulers - Two
    NT Scheduler - One
    Issue : When report ran from Unix 2, reports are not posting. Unix -1 is fine. This only happening in Dev only, Prod and test looks good (Initially happening in all and able to fix in prod and test).
    Error Message :http transfer error, SchedulerTransfer Servlet error (Distribution Server log)
    I' ve verified process schedular config and web server config files they also looks good.
    Initially nodes configuration
    1) HTTP1 (Unix -mysite.psapp.com)
    URL : http://mysite.psapp.com:16004/psreprts/prd
    URI :mysite.psapp.com
    URI Resource : Scheduler/prd
    2) HTTP2 (Unix2 -mysite.psdev.com ) : Same as above
    Note: Not posting in Unix2 (All three dev, tst, prod).
    Modified
    1) No changes
    2) HTTP2 (Unix2--mysite.psdev.com )
    URL : http://mysite.psdev.com:16004/psreprts/prd
    URI :mysite.psdev.com
    URI Resource : Scheduler/prd
    Note: After modifying Prod, test are posting properly, not in dev
    Verified all the below areas Nicolas siggested. Configuration looks good.
    1. did you set your local node as trusted node (peopletools/security/security objects/single signon)?
    Yes
    2. did you set a default user and password in your local node (peopletools/integration broker/integration setup/nodes) ?
    Yes
    3. did you create a report node and how (peopletools/process scheduler/report nodes) especially URI Resource (something like SchedulerTransfer/+dbname+) ?
    Yes
    4. did you give this report node to your process scheduler distibution (peopletools/process scheduler/server - tab distribution) ?
    Yes
    5. if PS user is managing the process scheduler (cf USERID/USERPWD in psprcs.cfg file), does he got the ReportDistAdmin and/or Process Scheduler Admin roles (peopletools/security/user profiles/user profiles/+your_user+ then tab ROLES) ?
    Ans: PS user only has Process Scheduler Admin, even adding does not resolved the issue
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Kay

  • Content in Container Moves every time I click

    Hi!
      I have created a project that calls a symbol into a container, and when the user clicks, the content gets loaded into the container. However, every time I click the button, it moves the container/content down about 25 pixels.
      I have tried in Firefox and Chrome, it works better in FF, but also the same problem occurs in Chrome.
      If anyone knows why this is happening, I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you!
    Link to project: http://adobe.ly/1mbxreo

    It is not moving, but actually replicating the symbol on every click. So you click once, it appears fine, click a second time, you see the symbol instance appear below, the first appearance because the first symbol instance is still there.
    You need to destroy it or delete the original instance in order for the same click operation to occupy the same space.
    Enter Symbol Edit Mode for hashtagButton
    Enter Timeline Action Mode by clicking the {} as captured;
    Click the + and choose 'Complete' event handler;
    Then in the Code window enter sym.deleteSymbol();

  • Add Flash movie file to Image Library

    I have a photo series of 6 shots I took of my friend being attacked by a large bird (Arizona Red-tailed Hawk) when he inadvertently came too close to it's nest. I took the shots using a fast action mode (Canon sport mode).
    I noticed while in LR web preview when using the fade transition they look almost like a movie!
    I would like to take my shots into Flash 8 and combine them into a single SWF file to better control the timing of the transitions and make them run as a single image in my gallery. I researched both the LR Help and this Forum but cannot find if I can include this movie in my web gallery. Can this be done?
    BTW... the bird is fine. :)

    Only by hacking the output files at this time. We have a web guru and a good hacker on hand. You may get further input on this.

  • IOS IPS Signature-File

    Hi Guys,
    We have recently purchased a Cisco ISR 2921,  and on its docs it is writen that this product has a License for IOS IPS Signatrue File,  but on the product Flash Memory there is no  IOS IPS Sig-File.   and while i try to download the sig-file from Cisco, it fails.
    Can any one tell me where is an alternate way to download the sig-file ?

    900 active signatures is quite much for a system that has no dedicated IPS-ressources.
    But you can controll which and how many signatures get enabled on your router:
    In the following example I first disable all signatures and enable the ones for web-servers. So just decide which signatures you need. But don't forget to monitor your router-ressources.
    gw#conf t
    Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
    gw(config)#ip ips signature-category
    gw(config-ips-category)#?
    IPS signature category configuration commands:
      category  Category keyword
