Action Script 3.0 fro Flash Professional CC running on Windows

Hi everybody,
I am trying to learn Action Script 3 on Flash Professional CC. The video courses I am following are on Lynda.com and they all talk about when referencing an instance of a movie clip that typing that instance name followed by the (dot) will bring up a list of properties available for that instance. I see this in action when watching the video but when I try the properties don't appear. For example I have an movie clip of a Circle on my stage and the instance of that movie clip is named mv_Circle
When I type the line 1> mv_Circle.   there should be a list appears showing the properties but this doesn't happen so I have to try and guess at what the property might be and what its expected value might be. Example adjusting the alpha of that instance I would type
1> mv_Circle.alpha = 0.5;     but the word alpha doesn't appear in the supposed list. Am I doing something wrong or have I setting set up wrong somewhere. My OS is window 7 64bit or Win 8 64 bit. Neither computer will give me this option.
I really hope somebody can help me as this is driving me crazy. Thank you in advance.
Dougie

Thank you so much, I have just tried this and of course you already know the answer it works.
The video course I am following doesn't mention this anywhere. Maybe I'll ditch that course in favour of some other course work.
Thank you again

  • Flash Professional CS5 running very laggy on new pc

1st time asking a question here so please be patient with me if I'm asking in the wrong place.
Basically I bought a new computer with Win 8 64-bit, AMD A8-6500 quad core @ 3.5ghz w/ Radeon onboard HD graphics, 8gb of RAM. My old laptop was an i5 with 4gb of RAM and 512mb of dedicated video memory, ran Flash CS5 with no problems.
So I install CS5 on my new computer, and it's really laggy...and when I say "laggy", there's a noticeable 1-4 or 5 seconds where I have to hold down the mouse button for it to register what I'm clicking on - worse if I'm zoomed in. I think I had this problem once or twice on my old laptop and it was because I had an issue with system resources, but this computer's about 2 weeks old and I only use it for work (I'm a Realtor so outside of emailing or filling out contracts, that's about it). For those wondering why I use Flash to begin with (since one would correctly assume that 90% of all Realtors can barely open their email), I use Flash because I draw/voice/animate cartoons as a hobby and Flash has been my go-to for all my content.
So I don't really know where to start trying to tweak things to get this running smoothly. I feel like 8gb of RAM is more than enough for what I'm doing, even with the onboard graphics sapping away RAM when it's needed (max amount it can share is a little over 4gb). Or maybe it isn't...I'm not totally sure just how much of a resource hog Windows 8 is. I also think that for now, the onboard graphics should be enough. I do have plans to upgrade both the RAM and add a dedicated video card in the next 60 days, but the summer is my busiest time of year for my job and I just don't have a lot of time to mess around with it, so I'd love to try and do something that'll temporarily help until I get around to buying the new components. Or if this isn't even a system resource issue, I'd love to find that out now before I blow $100+.
So, if anybody has any suggestions, I'm all open to them and I hugely appreciate anybody's help!

I don't know why I didn't think of checking that to begin with. I looked it over and it looks like having Chrome open was using up more resources than anything else. I closed that out and just opened Flash and it runs fine. I opened up Chrome while having Flash open and tried doodling, and it got a little bit choppy. So I guess until I buy some more RAM (was going to double it to 16gb) I should just not have Chrome running while I'm using Flash. I still feel like it shouldn't be happening on such a new system but that's how it goes.
    Thanks for the suggestion!

  • How do I get actions script 2.0 in Flash CC 2014?

Even when I go to previous versions, there is not option for CS6/ AS2.

    Hi Chase,
See Ability to add ActionScript 2.0 support in Flash CC where a similar topic has been discussed. While there is no provision to use AS 2.0 in DW CC, you can install DW CS6 on your computer along with CC. Dw CS6 has support for AS 2.0.

  • Script on page causing flash player to run slow

I am trying to use webmaker( magix) and as I get to the load
page I get this message... script on this page is making flash
player run slow and may cause computer to be unresponsive do you
want to abort after 4 days of trying could anyone tell me what the
    problem could be please

I don't understand why I would use onEnterFrame(). The entire
program only needs one frame to exist on, but maybe I don't
understand how Flash needs to manage these things. I am a C++/Cocoa
programmer rewriting a program that my boss made years ago in
Visual BASIC. What made it work for him was to call DoEvents every
600 itterations, which pauses the execution so that the system can
catch up with it's own stuff. Are you saying that onEnterFrame will
do this too? How will this work if the calculation only starts when
a button is pressed. Does the entire calculation routine need to
take place on a different frame?
    Could you explain these things?

  • Macromedia Flash Professional 8 trial, english windows version. Download not working?

Is anyone else having this issue? Everytime I try to click the download button on the windows english version of the flash 8 trial it does nothing. When clicked it tries to load something, but doesn't end up doing anything. I've tried using different browsers (I use firefox mainly) but it still does the same thing. Can anyone help?

Although it seem legitimate, I think it is mainly for historical purposes - maybe an orphan page :-). You should use the following link:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=flash
in order to download the software. The other links to flashbasic, a version of the software that isn't used anymore. If you are trying to get an old version in order to publish to an older version of the player, you shouldn't have any problems with the new version. You can set the target player under File > Publish Settings ... in the program.

  • Flash player wont run on windows 8.1

when i click on the app, or try to open a file ment for flash, a notification pops up saying " This application cant run on this PC"
i downloaded the 64-bit win 8 latest version, as thats what it recomended...

    Hi,
I know it's a little late, but this is the solution to your issue:
go to Adobe Flash Player - Downloads and download one of the two "projector" items shown here:
Find the file that you downloaded (in Firefox you can click the little folder icon next to it):
move this file somewhere that makes sense so it is not in your main downloads folder.
I usually do something like "C:\bin\adobe\flash\debuggers"... it is a bit linux-ish but I like to organize my command-line and stand-alone tools under the c:\bin directory just to keep a tidy house so to speak...
right click on any swf and select "Open With":
Click more options and then "look for another app on this PC":
Browse to the location where you stored the standalone player:
select it and then click "open"
There you go, you will open the swf in the desktop with the standalone player:
And all swf files will now show a flash player icon!

  • What's the oldest version of Flash Professional that will run on a Mavericks?

Hi. I have a Mac running OS 10.9.4, Mavericks.
I'm wondering if anyone knows which old versions of Adobe Flash Professional will run on Mavericks.
I owned Flash years ago — around 1999. I stopped usng it a few years later because that version was for PowerPC Macs only and I bought an Intel Mac.
I don't need the scripting features. I'm looking simply to make .swf drawings and maybe some basic animations. But there aren't any real alternatives for Mac.
I recently had to install Windows on my Mac to run a Windows program. So I also downloaded a trial of a Windows program called SwiSH miniMax4 that can create .swf content. It's only $69 and it has most of the features I need.
Except for one feature:  a drawing tool that recognizes pressure sensitivity from a graphics tablet. Flash, even in 1999, had a drawing tool (it might have been called a "brush") that let you draw freehand and it recognized pressure sensitivity from a graphics tablet. It made it possible to create drawings that didn't look at all like they were done in a vector tool.
Anyway, I'm thinking of maybe looking for an old version of Flash Professional on ebay. But I don't want to spend a lot of money and I have no idea which versions are compatible with Mavericks.
I'm thinking that the oldest version that will work under Mavericks would be just fine for me, since the version I owned in 1999 had all the features I'm looking for today.
    Thanks!
    Sky

    Hi Mirskyman,
It is highly unlikely that a person on this forum is using the version of Flash Professional that you have with you.  While it is possible that the version you have could probably run on Mavericks, it surely hasn't been tested for the OS. Consider yourself lucky if you find a person here with a similar issue that has solved the problem.
Meanwhile, why don't you give the trial version of Dreamweaver CC a shot? Animation software | Download free Flash Professional CC trial

  • Disable Context Menu - Flash Professional Export (Flash 11.2 - CS6)

Flash 11.2 added the capability to attach an right-click mouse-event to MovieClips.
    EX:
    var mc:MovieClip = new MovieClip
    mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.RIGHT_MOUSE_DOWN, myFunction);
When this listener is attached, it should be impossible for the Context Menu to pop up on right-click of this object. Flash disables the functionality.
When I export a new SWF from Flash Professional (CS6 Mac) and that SWF is embedded in the browser, it works as expected. Right-click does not spawn a context menu.
However, this is not the case with the flash player within Flash Professional. The flash player presented within Flash Professional just after export will does not hide the context menu.
While it's possible for me to develop by simply exporting the SWF and testing it in-browser, I lose out on all the debugging that Flash Professional offers.
How do I fix this issue?
    NOTE:
This issue isn't with exporting to 11.2 - I can already do that. All changes mentioned in this tutorial have already been made with base install of Flash Professional CS6.
    running:
    trace(flash.system.Capabilities.version)
    results in:
    MAC 11,2,202,228

    I've got the same problem!
I'm currently using Adobe Flash CS6 and I don't gave an idea of how to deploy my apps to be published on the Mac App Store!
If you find the answer, please, let me know!
    Here's my email: [email protected]
    Thanks a lot!

  • Flash Professional hanging while startup

I installed Flash Professional CC 2014 and it was working fine. But now it will simply not launch and keeps hanging at 'Loading Document Templates' during start up. I tried cleaning up the Flash CC 2014 folder under AppData\Local\Adobe and re-starting the system. But it doesn't seem to help. I am using Flash Professional CC 2014 and Windows 7.
    Thanks.

I'm definitely seeing a very similar issue - flash launches eventually, if I wait long enough (several minutes.) I'm running into this on windows 7 64bit, in case that's relevant. Are there any log files or something I could post so adobe QA people could better look into bugfixing this?

  • How to recreate Flash Professional CC preferences

I recently downloaded Flash Professional CC to a Windows 7 computer. It functions extremely poorly: most dialog boxes don't work and many of them cause the program to freeze, so it can only be closed with Task Manager.
I called Adobe Tech Support. They emailed me a this link:
    Re-create preferences
However, that link only refers to Flash CS6 and older versions.
    I have some related questions:
1 - Is there a version of that link that includes Flash CC?   If there is I can't find it by searching.
2 - I went ahead and tried one method the link gave for deleting preferences. It said to hold down CTL + ALT + SHIFT while launching Flash CC. Here's a quote from the link:
    Re-create the preferences file
Note: You can skip the following steps if you do not want to save your old preferences. You can start the application while holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift to delete and reset the preferences to the default.
I tried to follow this advice this in 2 ways:
A - I held down  CTL + ALT + SHIFT while clicking on the Flash CC icon in my status bar. The icon froze and nothing launched. I rebooted.
B -  I held down  CTL + ALT + SHIFT while double-clicking on the Flash CC shortcut on my desktop. It caused this window to open; it looks like a generic Windows 7 properties window, and I don't see anyway to "delete and reset the preferences to the default" as Adobe instructs.
Does anyone know how to delete Flash CC preferences?

Actually this needs to be updated for CC 2014. The file you reference above isn't in this folder. Instead, I see a 2014 folder and, inside this folder there is a file called cloudsync. See below. This is what needs to be deleted to prevent the crashing.

  • Quitting Adobe Flash Professional Creative Cloud (CC) Loses All Project Build Settings

I am currently working on an Adobe AIR iOS project, targeting the 3.7 SDK in Flash Professional CC running on Mac OS X 10.8.4.  If I quit out of the Flash application, reopen it, and then reopen my AIR iOS project, all build and publish settings are lost.  This includes the "output file" path location, the publish settings "target", all "source" paths provided under the "Source path" tab under "ActionScript Settings", all "library" paths provided under the "Library path" tab under "ActionScript Settings".  I have to go in and reset these everytime by hand after relaunching the Flash CC application.
    Anyone else experiencing this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    Dharmendra,
while you're about to fix this publishing problem, you might also want to look into the problem, that the 'Output file:' in the publish settings doesn't update its value when one changes the current active Profile.
    Test case:
    - create 2 profiles, e.g. WebDebug, DesktopDebug
    - have [WebDebug] publish the .SWF to [WebOutput] and...
    - ... [DesktopDebug] publish the .SWF to [DesktopOutput]
When switching between the 2 profiles, the 'Output file:' text box does NOT change its content.
    "Workaround":
    - select the targeted profile
    - close the dialog via [OK]
    - reopen the dialog
--> The 'Output file' text box now has changed its content accordingly.
As it seems to be of no interest at the moment, when bug reports are being created - like in here "http://forums.adobe.com/community/report_a_problem" - or the 'Adobe bug reporting page' doesn't work at all (http://bugs.adobe.com/flex/), I'm just posting it here...
    Thanks
