Action to convert 4-colour black

Hi
I looking for a smarter way - an action - to convert an Illustrator file with various combinations of 4 colour black to 100% K (black).
It could be that the document has a lot of different combinations of black (fx. 86,5C, 89,6M, 88,9Y, 87,4K and 87,9C, 88,6M, 90,1Y, 89,3K and so on) that all has to be converted to 100K
Is is possible to make an action that can do that or is it always the hard way of selected on colour, select "Same Fill & Stroke", and then select 100K.
Hope someone can help.
/Klaus

I do it normally so:
Open color panel
select all art work
in the panel's  flyout menu select create new color group
activate make global colors
deselect the artwork
select all swatches which should be the same (from the new color group) and merge them
correct all swatches as you want, this will now recolor the artwork

  • Interact Basler Camera with Labiview and convert image colours in temperature

    Hello,
as the title suggests I need to combine a Basler camera with labview ( version 8.6 or higher) and convert the colours of the image in temperature signals. I have some thermocouples which measure temperatures of a black paper which change colour with the temperature, so I would like either to:
    1) define a calbiration curve so that for each colour corresponds a temperature
    2) dinamically calibrate, so that labview reads the temperature from the tempscan and at the same time knows the colour and derive a curve of calibration (of course we are speaking about a high number of measurements of temperature: 24).
I guess the first method should be straightforwards, since I'm new to LV as well as to this camera I would like to know if you might give me any suggestion how to implement the curve of calibration and pick up the photo. The second method, I think is nice but quite difficult.
    Thank you very much
    Cheers,
    Antonio

    Hi Antonio,
We have already spoken on the phone but I thought it would be a good idea to attach the very basic example code on here so that the community can see it.
The code converts a colour into a decimal number. This number can then be used with a look-up table or calibration curve to get the respective temperature signal.

  • Supplied PDF has text as 4 colour black

I've got a PDF supplied with body text as 4 colour black.
Anyway to convert the 4 colour black to just 100% black?

Unfortunately, that will convert all text to black, won't it?@
    That's correct.
but you can set in the acrobat minimum and maximum size of the text to be changed (I hope your color text blue and red are different sizes from the body text) .
for example, if the body text has 10 pt you can set min 10pt and max 10pt.
if for example titles are blue but have 15 pt they will stay blue after conversion.
in the example screen shoot the titles blue and red have 15 pt and they remained in blue and red after conversion (I set maximum 14 pt and without minimum).

  • Action to Convert Word doc to pdf, error: the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

I am simply running an action that converts all Word 2010 docs within a directory into pdfs in another directory. The Word doc is closed.
This is performed within Adobe Pro X.  The directory to look in has been set.  The directory to save in has been set, and is different.
The error message pops up after I run the action.  If I click the OK button, the 'save pdf file as' box pops up, with Adobe printer's default save directory
(not the same as the above two) selected.
If I click Save, accepting the meaningless file name (ADPD5A5.pdf in this case) the problem goes away.  If I chose cancel, the problem also goes away.
I don't want to save this pdf as anything other than what is set up in the action.  How do I stop this from happening?
I've unchecked 'prompt for Adobe pdf file name' within the Word Adobe preferences, but to no success.
I will ultimately be converting scores of docs into pdfs, and cannot have to interfere with each one.
This worked fine on my XP machine, but now in Windows 7 64 bit (new machine, new Adobe install) it is causing this problem.

    A bit of a confusion on my part;
Now we have created these REPORTS using Basic Crystal Report 10.5, which comes bundled with Visual Studio 2008 and .Net Framework 3.0. Now on our machines, we have never experienced any issues.
Going by the above, you should have references to CR assemblies of version 10.5.3700 only. No other references.
    Now, looking at this paragraph:
BUT on the DEV server (web server) which has .net Framework 3.0 and in its GAC its has CRYSTAL DLLs version 11.5 (required to create an Object of ReportClass and its related functions) ; sometimes we get the following error while exporting crystal report to pdf:
I wonder what runtime was deployed to the server. E.g.; if you are using CR 10.5, your assemblies will be 10.5.3700 and you should be deploying the following runtime (depending on 32 bit / 64 bit, etc.):

  • Convert photo to black and white excpet for reds

I have a photo and I would like to convert it to black and white except for the reds in the image. Is there a way of selecting a color range to be preserved and to convert the rest to black and white?
    thanks

The problem is that the reds arnt just in one area.
Is there no way to select a color range?
I guess I could use the magic wand tool and set it off continuous while varying the tolerance, but this seems a but crude.

  • Converting 4-Color Blacks to 100% Black

Is there a way to convert 4-Color Blacks(Rich Blacks) to 100% Black? For example today I got a file that was CMYK 4 Color however the blacks in the PDF file were not 100% Black is there a way to convert the 4 Color Blacks to 100% black in Acrobat? I don't want the whole PDF to be Greyscale. I still want the color but I want to specifically target the 4 color blacks and turn them to 100% black. Can this be done? I am using Acrobat 8.

    It's possible but not easy.
You first need to identify exactly what the "rich black" in the document is - 4-plate CMYK, RGB, etc. then create a Preflight Check that finds only that color combination, with a second item in the check to filter only by text objects.
You can then use it as the trigger item for a Convert Colors preflight fixup, applying something like a dot gain 30, which will blow the rich black out to 100K.

  • Colouring Black and White video images

My son (14 years) has just found an interest in colouring black and white film footage and is finding it a very pain staking process. I am looking to assist him with some software to make the process easier but don't really know where to start him off. I am currently using Photoshop elements and Lightroom myself for the  restoration of old Black and White still images, but he is looking to work with video files. Is anyone able to provide some advice as to where top start and which Adobe applications may suit this. I appreciate any input.

  • Unusable Dell M110 and the colour black....

    Hi,
So I recently purchased two dell M110 projectors.  They are crisp, bright and look great.
However they are both UTTERLY UNUSABLE because they are unable to project correctly when the majority of the screen is the colour black.  I've taken a video which demonstrates the problem:  http://youtu.be/G5LFMyRtOPk
The colours appear distorted and flicker very quickly between offset R, G and B.  Only the colour white appears stable.  The more black on the screen, the more pronounced the flashing and cycling is.
These are for a demonstration which is supposed to be on Thursday this week, but I fly out tomorrow.  I'm hoping it is just a quick software error and I am just having trouble finding a fix for it on your website..  Help!!
    Yours faithfully,
    John

I also recently purchased a Dell M110, and after only 17 hours of use I am experiencing the exact same problem.  Unfortunately, I'm deployed to Afghanistan right now, it took 20 days to get shipped to me, and Newegg's policy was a 30-day replacement only.
I had only been using the projector once per night for about an hour to three hours at a time, watching Spartacus.  I got to the last episode of the first season and it started flickering.  I messed around in the settings and found that lowering the color temperature from the default of 'high' to 'med' helped for one night; the next night when I turned the projector on it started flickering.  Turning the temperature down to 'low' stops the flickering, but now it only displays blue and green colors, no red at all.  I tried to use the test images in the settings - the first showed all three colors, which confuses me; the second just shows an entire image of only red.  I'm not sure what it is supposed to be, but that seems odd, especially since I can't see red at all when playing back video.  I set the projector up with a brand-new HDMI cable and I was so thrilled to be watching a [mostly] crisp image at ~40" in my tent.  By 'mostly,' I'm referring to the fact the projector refuses to focus every point of the image evenly.
I tried to set the projector up using the packaged VGA cable, but it still flickered or only displayed blue and green.  This, quite plainly put, B.S.  I spent nearly $400 on something that should have lasted at least 1,175 times the amount of hours it has and there's nothing I can do about it to get it replaced or refunded because of the 30-day only replacement policy.  I can't call Dell from here because they only offer 1-800 numbers, and email support is, for some stupid reason, not available for this product.  I tried to use the live chat feature and it just brought me to a page stating "technical support is not available."  When I went to make this account to see if I could find someone who could help me in the forums the password requirements are not even clearly stated.  It says a minimum of six characters, one letter, and one number.  I tried to make a password with all of the aforementioned and two special characters.  No where on the page does it mention I cannot use them.  Took me four tries to figure out the site doesn't want us using special characters in the password.  That is just pure laziness on the part of the staff - that along with everything else tells me Dell isn't going to get back to me with any kind of actual help before I'm out of here.  Maybe two months from now I'll get a response saying I can pay to ship the projector out to their warehouse where they'll 'quality check' the device for two weeks, replace it with another faulty PoS projector, send it to me the next week with the cheapest possible ground shipper, and then when I receive it, the next one is going to do the same thing.  I can see it now.
...clearly I'm a bitter man that's tired of dealing with this service, and I'm tired of being tired.  I'm so glad I bought a ~$400 glossy, paper weight cube.
    Thank you, Dell.

  • The Colour black = red

So the display on my ibook will no longer display the colour black. it displays red insted, any ideas?
    Thanks
    ibook   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    It could be.
Does the angle of the display make a difference? Sometimes the LVDS (low-voltage data signal) cable can cause a display to malfunction, too.
If you are out of warranty and not covered by AppleCare, DT & T Computer Services do free diagnostics, offer some of the best prices on repairs I've found online, and also give a six-month warranty on repairs (which doubles Apple's 90-day warranty on repairs).

  • Best Photoshop plug-in or action for converting photos to a spray paint look?

For a project I will be doing, the client will be receiving a bunch of photos from their employees. Traditionally, these photos are not well-composed, high-res, professionally shot images but selfies or other type images they might take with the camera on their phone.
This year, the client has asked me if it would be possible to convert these images into something that looks like it's been painted by a graffiti artist, partly because their theme is somewhat "urban" and partly because I think they think that this would gloss over the bad quality photos. However, they don't want the stencil-outline one or two colour Banksy look kind of thing. As much as I dread saying it, they want something that I can just apply to the photo and convert it to give a uniform look as there may be as many as 300 photos. I have been researching various pieces of software, plug-ins and tutorials but I'm just getting bogged down by it all and to make matters worse, they want to see what it could look like before they will agree to it, so it's not like I can go on a software spending spree. If someone does have a solution that I think works, I will be happy to pay for it -- I'm not looking for a freebie -- but I can't afford/the budget doesn't allow purchasing multiple products for testing purposes. When the photos do come in, there won't be budget or time to painstaking handcraft them all, either. They will not be used in a print application so resolution is not an issue.
Which is why I'm here. I was hoping that someone might have been in a similar situation and has a suggestion. I've already looked at

    http://www.autofx.com/products/automagic-photo-effects-gen1/
But there's so much out there these days it's hard to keep track and Google returns a lot of um... interesting results that have nothing to do with what I'm looking for.
Also, if there is an AfterEffects plug-in that would do it, I'm fine with that too. I haven't looked at the filters I have yet.
    Thanks!

First you need to make sure that the offline files location on client PCs will change location once the new server comes online. This depends on how you push these settings out in the first place, generally it is best to use GPOs to achieve this but you may or may not be doing it this way.
You could cheat and create a CNAME which points the location of the old share to the new, but this is messy and not a great solution.
When it comes to the actually copying files, create a Robocopy script and have it run out of hours, probably over a weekend would be the best time.
Make sure you sure that any scripts/GPO/Applications which point to the old file server are changed to the new location before you go live with the migration.

  • Making a PDF X3 file for printing in only 1 colour (black)

    Hi,
Sorry but it seems I need again some help.
From InDesign CS 3 I am making (Print to Adobe PDF) a PDF file for a printing house (books and magazines).
I need to do a PDF X3 compatible file, and among other settings it checks that indeed the file has only black, no other colors. I do this trough "Print to Adobe PDF" because while working, my text is colored so that I can more easily identify the styles in use. Then I print with the option "Composite CMYK" and "Text as Black". I also use crop marks.
The problem is is that when checking the PDF X3 compatibility, the crop marks appear as a second color (Registered) so the file is flagged as having problems.
What settings must I use so that the file cheks OK, that it has only black (1 colour) and can be generated by using "print to" and not "export as"?
    Thanks for the help,
    ionP

Thank you for your suggestion, unfortunately it seems this is not the solution.
I did print as composite gray, before that in "Preferences" I changed the settings to "Printing/Exporting: Output All Blacks as Rich Black". But when checked the conformity to PDF X3 the crop marks are showed as special color (so that I have a PDF with 2 colors).
I also checked with an Acrobat Plug-In, "Quite Revealing", and it shows also 2 colors, Black (which is OK) and Registration (and that is not not OK). It should show only "Black", which it does if I do not put crop marks, but I need the crop marks.

  • Converting grayscale to black & white

I have a sketched out map of a parking lot that I want to convert to a true black and white. Can someone please tell me step by step how to do this?
    Thanks...

Curvemeister told you how to convert from RGB to grayscale. And by the way I think the new(ish?) black and white adjustment layer does your trick in one adjustment. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
    Max:
To move from grayscale to "true black and white" (bitmap), you can use the layer...new adjustment layer...threshold and move the slider. Personally, I like to upsample the image some, as bitmaps have no gray tones to smooth lines out. Your target resolution should be 450-600 ppi at the size you will print. Of course, you can go higher... You can upsample using bicubic smoother and then use the threshold adjustment layer. When you're happy with how it looks, just image...mode...bitmap it and you've got a true black and white.
Of course if your image is photographic, you might want to turn it into "line art," which is kind of a different thing. If you try the threshold adjustment layer on a photo, you'll see what I mean.
Be sure to save as, or dupe the file before you begin!

  • True black converting to rich black when importing one specific PDF

I am using InDesign CC. When importing one particular CMYK PDF file into my document, the black text is converting to 4-color rich black. I have InDesign 5.0 on another computer. Following the same procedure on that computer, the text remains 100% K. My settings are the same, as far as I can tell.
Other designers across the country using this same ad have no problem. The text remains 100% K. We are all using InDesign, but I am the only one using InDesign CC.
I do not have this problem with any other ads (so far), but I have been using CC for only two months.
    Any ideas?

It has been over a month since I walked through her settings with her, Rob, and the minute details have been replaced in my brain. I do know that she built the ad in CMYK, used 100%K for text, left the layers unflattened, ensured she had a background layer. In her PDF output settings, she converted to destination, and her destination profile was CMYK SWOP 2. I had her try CMYK web uncoated v2, as well. I don't recall what her overall color setting was set to (North America General Purpose? Custom? Again, nothing that alarmed me).
Sorry I don't have more details. She isn't interested in helping me investigate this further, since I am the only one with difficulties.
As far as changing the assigned profile within InDesign, yes, I tried that. It didn't help. I believe I exhaused all possible combinations for output.
Good to hear (in a sick sort of way) about the problems with Acrobat. I had read about Acrobat having difficulties with preserving numbers, so I wasn't as concerned about the output preview. But on the other hand, I wasn't sure if it might be an "a-ha" symptom for this particular PDF.
So many possibilities, so little time.   Your explanations have helped my stress tremendously. Many thanks!
