Action wizard (Acrobat Pro)

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/using/WSdd9016941e183011-149709e812b380ff7dd-8000.html

"You can avoid password prompts when you run a sequence on PDFs that require passwords. Automate password entry, or specify a security method for these files in the Action Wizard panel of the Preferences dialog box. If you select Do Not Ask For Password, PDFs that require passwords are not processed."
Choosing Password Security in the Preferences>Action Wizard does NOT prompt for a password in Adobe Pro XI, like it did in X.  This no longer works.  What is the fix?  There is no way to Remove Security from a Folder in XI because the password prompt never occurs.  The Action Wizard created to 'change security to none' does nothing.

  • Need Help with the Action Wizard...Help please?

I am using the Adobe Action wizard to split documents into multiple pages.  Once the docs are split, the Action wizard saves them to a new folder exactly how I want them, however it also moves a copy of the original document into the source folder (Which I do not want)  is there a way to stop this from happening?

    Hi lpurollpsmi,
Could you please provide more details of the action that have you added for the same.
You might take a look on the KB doc link mentioned below with detailed understanding on Action Wizard:
Acrobat Help | Action wizard (Acrobat Pro)
Are you running the latest Acrobat version i.e. 11.0.10?
    Hope to get your response.

  • Acrobat Pro / How to insert a jpg or a png in interactive pdf? (I can only insert pdfs)

Hi, I have created a placeholder for picture in an interactive pdf.
When I want to insert a picture the only format allowed is pdf.
I would like to be able to insert jpg or png.
I had a look online and it seems that I should be able to change the user preferences of Adobe to allow formats like jpg and png to be inserted.
I can't find the way to do that.
    Any idea?
    Thanks a lot
    Colleen

Thanks Sara, your suggestion is a very good alternative. By using the tools I can add pictures of any types.
Following this exemple can I do the same in Acrobate Reader?
However I was trying to do something different. I have create an action in Acrobat Pro using Javascript
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rlSo18ntYU
When I want to insert a picture I have format options but only the pdfs are showing (see screenshot attached). As Bernd told use Acrobate Reader allows only PDFs to be inserted but Acrobate Pro should allow us more options I think... Anymore thoughts?
    Thanks a lot

  • How can I execute an action in Acrobat XI Pro using PowerPoint VBA?

I am using Acrobat XI Pro and PowerPoint that came with Office 2013 running on Windows 8.
I have an action in the Action Wizard that executes JavaScript code. It works fine when I click Tools | Action Wizard | Actions | <my script>, and Start in Acrobat XI Pro.
I would like to be able to execute the same action using VBA in PowerPoint. Is this action considered a "menu item" in Acrobat? If so then I understand I can use AcroApp.MenuItemExecute to execute a menu item. What "menu item name" should I use? If not, is there another way to execute the same action using VBA in PowerPoint?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    John

No, it isn't a menu item. This area is a little complex, but it's the things which are, or which used to be on the menu. I don't think that there is a way to automate running actions, and I think this is entirely deliberate. However, there is an interface to execute JavaScript code, which is described in the Acrobat SDK.

  • Acrobat Pro 10 Actions Not Applying Fast Web View

Acrobat Pro 10 actions are pretty useful overall, however they are not applying Fast Web View all the time. In my opinion, all PDFs generated today should be Fast Web View by default, but among the many applications which allow for PDF creation, not all apply Fast Web View for some reason.
I did see http://forums.adobe.com/message/3335827for a potential band-aid fix. Unfortunately, it did not work for me.
Here is the text from my Action sequence file:

As you can see, the "/OptimizePDF [/b true]" is set per the instructions in the aforementioned link. It still does not set Fast Web View all the time. I ran a test of the action on a batch of 10 PDFs, some were set to Fast Web View and some were not. While one of the PDFs that was not set to Fast Web View was open in Acrobat, I ran the same Action again and it did apply Fast Web View! I even installed the latest patch hoping that would fix it, but unfortunately it did not. Distiller does in fact set Fast Web View, but it won't work on PDFs. The only way I can find to guarantee the establishment of Fast Web View is to manually do a Save As on every file which I think is asking a bit much when you deal with hundreds of PDFs on any given day. Also that would effectively defeat the purpose of running an Action on hundreds of PDFs in the first place.
    Any ideas?

There is a bug because of which fast web view is always disabled. While that is fixed, here the workaround. Save the action and open the .sequ file in Notepad. Change:
                    /OptimizePDF [/b false]
    to
                    /OptimizePDF [/b true]

  • Starting Actions in Adobe Acrobat Pro

    Dear Adobe Acrobat users,
I know that Adobe Acrobat isnt designed to be operated through the command line. However, I was wondering whether it might be possible to start/initiate Actions that have been created with the Action Wizard from outside Adobe - with the command line perhaps?!
Thank you very much in advance,
    Andreas

Through commandline parameters all you can do is open a PDF or print a file.
To do anything else, you need to communicate via OLE (in other words write a program in C++ or Visual Basic that talks directly to the Acrobat API). This is documented in the SDK help, which the above link is part of, but it's not a 5-minute job.

  • Using Action Wizard on encrypted files in Acrobat X

I am trying to use the Action Wizard to execute batch commands on encrypted files in Acrobat X but it keeps saying it can't open the document. In Preferences, I have the Security Method set to Password Security under Action Wizard, but it never prompts me for a password. Is there something else I need to set?

I found the problem. I needed to change "Starts with:" from "A File Open in Acrobat" (the default in Create New Action) to "Ask When Action is Started".

    Hi!
I need to work with layers (OCG) in a single site PDF.

    hide the text layer
export the pdf without the hidden text-layer as img

I was able to do all steps in 4 different action wizard scripts in Acrobat XI. How can I access them in a LiveCycle process?
If this is not possible, how can I access preflight corrections into a LiveCycle process to achieve the same?

  • How to know the processing ordering in Acrobat Action wizard

Acrobat Action wizard process the files in a specific folder , I would like to know the ordering citeria of the acrobat, is it based on alphaethic/ numeric order just the same as sorting function in PHP?
Since I have to get the last file in the files list, if the ordering citeria is different from PHP , it is hard to tell.
    Thanks.

If you need the files processed in a specific order you're better off not counting on the order used in an Action.
My solution to this problem is to collect the file paths of the files processed by the Action in a global array and then process them using my code (from a folder-level script), which can sort them in whatever way I need them to be sorted.

Does Adobe offer any automation process to assist with Acrobat action wizard items?

  • Acrobat Pro X batch processing different in Win 7

    Greetings,
My company just completed moving everyone from Win XP to Win 7 (yes, I know, but better late than never). I regularily use Acrobat Pro X to batch process and password protect large numbers of a variety of documents (Word, Publisher, Excel and PowerPoint 2-up printouts.)
Under Windows XP the process was pretty straight forward:
    1) Open Acrobat Pro
    2) Secect "Batch Process" File -> Create -> Batch Create Multiple files... (a window appears).
    3) Drag a large group of documents into the window (you can drag over 50 docs, it doesn't matter), then begin the process (which automatically walks through all the documents and PDFs them.)
    4) When the process is complete, open up the Action Wizard File -> Action Wizard -> Select the appropriate action
    5) A window appears, drag the PDFs into the window and go. All PDS quickly get the security applied.
    Done
With Windows 7 the functionality is different (I really don't know if it is the operating system change or some type of policy change that I am unaware of). The process is far slower because I literally have to PDF and Apply Security to each document one at a time. The process goes like this:
    Under Windows 7:
    1) Select a group of documents, but NO MORE THAN 15.
    2) Drag the documents over the "Acrobat Pro X" icon and launch them this way. Each document created a "temporary PDF". Multiple windows open up, stacked on top of each other.
    3) Go to each window individually and first save the file (that way the file name is preserved), then go to the Action Wizard and apply the security. Then close the PDF.
    4) Repeat this process for each open window (document).
    5) Repeat as necessary until you have the several hundred documents processed.
Literally this is a "hands-on" process for each document. Is there a better way? Am I missing something in the Acrobat or Windows 7 settings?
If I try to batch process the old way under Windows 7 I get a series of error messages for each document. (I can't even get to the action wizard process.)
    Any suggestions?
Is there a third party app that will work without having to administer it so much?
    Thank you,
    TPK

    Hi Test Screen Name,
While reproducing the problem I realized I was in error as to how far in the sequence the problem occured. I actually do get as far as batch creating PDF,. The only difference there is that I can no longer "drag and drop" files in the batch create window. I have to use the "Add files..." command in the upper left of the batch create window.
So, the application batch creates the files. Afterward, I use the Action Wizard to batch "Password Protect" the files. It is during this command run that the error occures. (Note: I am trying to save over the old files by having them save to the same directory under the same name, just like I used to be able to do.) The error I get is:
    Action Completed.
    Saved to: \\HOME\path-to-original-files\
    Warning/Errors
The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document in a different
    Document: Name of document1.pdf
    Output: Name of document1.pdf
The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document in a different
    Document: Name of document2.pdf
    Output: Name of document2.pdf
The error message loops through all the documents. I don't have the documents open or in use. By default they shouldn't be "read-only". This all did not occure when I previously used the application with Windows XP.
I have not yet tried saving them to a different directory. I will try that later today. (I didn't want to have a lot of versions of the same documents, it tends to be confusing.)
    Thank you for your reply,
    TPK

  • Reduce file size with action wizard

    (German version below)
    Hey,
I got two questions for action wizard in Acrobat XI Pro.
I try to reduze file size of many PDFs using acion wizard. My tests worked fine but now I got some problems I try to explain now:
    1. I add a directory with many subdirectorys to my process list. Adobe now adds not only PDFs to my list, it also adds JPGs, DOCs etc. That means I have to delete every single file I not want to convert to PDF cause I only want to reduce file size of excisting PDFs. Is there any possibility to only add PDFs in my processing list?
    2. If a PDF is opend by any other user I get a information about it. This info I need to acknowledge every time it pops up cause my process interrups. Is there any possibility to ignore this info?
I´m happy for any help i can get here. Thx.

    Hallo Leute,

For starters, let's refer to your original post: "this is indeed a serious problem and step back in functionality..."  This statement is a quite ridiculous assertion, unnecessarily dramatic, wholly inaccurate, and unhelpful.  Your statement "is this a joke" and "I know Acrobat tends to choke...etc..." is just pure gibberish and polemical.   It is quite easy to feed any application enough data to cause a performance failure, but one would really need to question one's motive and prudent use of one's time at this point - unless you are tasked with stress and load testing the software to determine minimum working requirements.
'Batch Processing' is, since Acrobat 9.x, dead and gone, Acrobat 11's approach is to aggregate many hitherto unavailable tools and commands and allow the user to create custom workflows.  More interactivity has been built into the process, which may or may not be desirable in each case depending on the workflow context and requirements.  But we have obviously moved away from the concept of processing a large number of files and towards a more targeted and effective processing of smaller sets of files.  The default Actions we deliver with Acrobat 11 reflect this intention.
The feature "Batch Processing", which was an Acrobat feature from A5 (I believe) up to A9, previously had been hidden in Menu/Advanced/Document Processing/Batch Processing has been wholly replaced by a completely overhauled framework called Actions, now part of the Tools panel, and will be immediately accessible when Tools is called in the UI.
Thus the obscured Batch Processing may have been a tool considered and used by an extremely small set of users to do exactly that, i.e., batch process a large number of files, but had been fairly inflexible, generally speaking, and buggy.  We were very well aware that if we were to overhaul the feature, add a considerably larger number of available tools and commands in Acrobat, provide wide possibilities for customization built towards specific workflows, and bring it to the forefront, we were going to sacrifice some of the aspects of batch processing a large number of files.  Not calling it "Batch Processing" anymore - because it isn't - may be an indication of this intention.
Personally I have used and tested Batch Processing periodically during various Acrobat projects, but I don't remember encountering the "Reduce File Size" command - which is a subset of Save and file optimization -  to use within a batch sequence.  I may be wrong, and your screen shots would be welcome here.  In fact go ahead and construct a batch sequence that (1) uses 'Reduce File Size and (2) applies file type filters to it, and post it either here or to me privately.  I would be happy to be wrong.  But regardless, we are grateful for positive input that points out defects, allows us to improve the functionality of the product, providing the intended changes are reasonable, and that the communication of said issues remain respectful of this process and of the individuals we depend upon to implement these changes.  The tone of your response comes very close to rendering a proper consideration of this issue irrelevant.
