Action Wizard - modify "Initial View" settings

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to change the "Initial View" settings in the document properties using the Action Wizard.
For accessibility reasons I need the Document Properties > Initial View > Window Options > Show settings to "Document Title" as opposed to the default "File Name".
Any suggestions? i cant find a way to change this using the "Create New Action" options
Thanks.

It's under Document Processing - Set Open Options - Display Document Title.

  • Acrobat 7 Pro, Script to Automate "Initial View" Settings

Can you create an Applescript that let's you batch define Acrobat's 'Initial View' settings under the Document Properties of an existing PDF?
I am not familiar with scripting language and enable the UI feature of Script Editor, but it didn't seem to record my actions. Photoshop's Actions don't allow me to define these specific settings.

Thanks, Bernd. I forgot to mention in the original post that the "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" option IS disabled (unchecked), both in Acrobat and Reader. The behavior described occurs with this option disabled.

  • Prevent pdf initial view settings from disabling my menu bar

Some pdf files are configured with initial view settings to remove my menu bar and other toolbars. This is incredibly intrusive, and difficult to get those back unless you know the correct keyboard shortcuts. Most users don't.
So please tell me how to permanently disable pdf files from asserting their own initial view settings on my viewing environment. I do not want to permit them to take over my window and get rid of my menu bars. I find that behaviour incredibly annoying.
    Thanks

Sorry, you can set the default view parameters only for documents that the author has not specified a view option for.
You might be able to write a plug-in that could change the open document action.
Have you tried contacting the authors about this issue?

  • Initial View settings not always working

A user recently reported this problem:
She opens a PDF for the first time through our website by click a link on an HTML page in IE. The PDF opens in a new browser window to the default view and first page, as specified in the initial view settings.
She advances several pages into the file to a page with links.
She clicks one of these links, which takes her to another page in the file.
    She closes the browser window.
She returns to the original web page and clicks the link to the PDF again. The PDF opens to the LAST page viewed -- not the first page as specified in the initial view settings.
I'm seeing the same behavior on my PC. The versions of Acrobat Pro and Reader I have are 8.1.3. I've tried turning on and off the web browser settings in Acrobat and Reader (Allow fast web view and Allow speculative downloading ...), but I'm getting the same results.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rob Miles

  • Acrobat 9 Ingores Document Initial View Settings

I've created a PDF from InDesign. I set Initial View Settings for the document in Acrobat 9. When I open the document in A9, the Initial View Settings are ignored. I then open the same document in A8 and it opens fine. I'm guessing there is a global setting in the A9 preferences, but I can't seem to find one that works. Please help.

I apply the Initial View settings as I first create the PDF.
I use File... Properties... Initial View.
Depending on the length of the document, I make the first setting Page Only, Pages Panel and Page (most often), or Bookmarks and Page (if it is a long report and I am making bookmarks).
I make Page Layout be Single Page.
And I check Hide Tool Bars in the last group. (All commands are still available with menus, with much less real estate taken up by tall toolbars.)
Then I save and close the document. Then I re-open it to make sure it looks as I intended.
On my old computer, that always worked great and made a professional looking PDF.
But when I downloaded the same product onto my new computer, this no longer works.
I am using a workaround and hoping that when I upgrade on the new computer that the later version will work.

  • Exporting PDF's - Initial View settings?

    Hey all!
Is there any way from InDesign CS4 to set the Initial View of the PDF when exporting your layout to a PDF? I would like to be able to set the display of the Navigation Tab, the Page layout, Magnification, and a few security settings. Is this even possible? Or do I just have to do this from Acrobat? This might be where developing a script for Acrobat might be in my future
    Much thanks!

That must be done in Acrobat.

  • Acrobat crashing when editing Initial View settings (3D ver 8.1.6)

Two of my colleagues are experiencing crashes in Adobe Acrobat 3D Version 8 when they try to adjust the settings on the Initial View tab. (It's working fine for me, and we all have similar systems.) Any suggestions?
    Steps to recreate:
Create a PDF. (Note: One coworker created a PDF from a Word 2003 document. The other created a PDF from a FrameMaker 8 document. The crash is happening for both of them.)
Open the PDF in Acrobat 8.
From the File menu, select Properties. The Document Properties window appears.
    Click the Initial View tab.
Attempt to change some settings on this tab. (For example, change the Navigation tab option to Bookmarks Panel and Page.) Note: This is the point at which Adobe is crashing for my coworkers. They used to be able to adjust these settings, and we're not sure specifically when this functionality stopped working.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello try67,
the system is an terminalserver where only a special group can use the Acrobat 8 pro. The other users only can view the PDF-Files with Adobe Reader.
I have figuerd out the problem.
The problem results from two registry keys.
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document\shell\open\command
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7\shell\open\command
This keys are set to Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe.
If you change this keys to Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe all links in Office 2003 to PDF-Files will open for "normal" users the Adobe Reader and for the users in the special group the Acrobat 8 pro is opened.

  • Modifying Initial View values using C#

    Hello,
I am trying to modify the Initial View (Page Layout, Magnification, and Open To Page) properties programmatically, using c#.
I have tried everything, CAcroPDDoc only had SetPageMode method which modifies the value of the Navigation tab and that's about it. There was a method called SetOpenInfo method which would accomplish what I want, however for some reason Adobe got rid of it.
I don't know what else to do.
    Please Help!!!!
    Thanks

    Hi Leonard,
The user requirements are for a stand-alone application. As for the plug-in method, I will use that as a last resort if nothing else works. Is it even possible to do it through IAC?
By the way, the api reference mentions Info dictionary, where do I view the contents of that dictionary?
    Thanks,
    Alex

  • Modify "standard view" settings for an ALV in a WD4A view

    Hi fellow developers
I have placed an ALV on  WD4A view.
In the WDMODIFYVIEW I try to manipulate the ALV settings but somehow the settings of the "standard view" overrule my commands.
The settings of the "standard view" are not modifiable from within the function.
Is there a possbility to change the settings of this "standard view" that is being used for this ALV?
    Kind regards
    Wouter Heuvelmans
    Pyramid Applied Solution

Execute your application in administration mode, afterwards you can change the settings using settings link of the ALV and save the same as part of "Standard View". If you want settings only for a user then ask user create a view of there own and set the same as default view.
Even if you maniuplate ALV Layout settings ( other then Initial settings set during ALV call ) the same will be overruled by the default view set in the ALV i.e. Initial settings.

  • Initial view settings by JavaScript

    Hello,
Im trying to set some properties directly in the form on startup by JavaScript:
    - Hand tool
    - Single page continous
But I don't find any way to select the "hand tool" and to set the view to "single page continous"
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
I am not sure how to achieve the "hand tool" via script. However I did a similar exercise in Acrobat and while it worked on my PC, it did not work as expected on earlier versions of Acrobat.
Therefore if you do get the script to work, I would test it on earlier versions (that your users may be using).
    Good luck,

  • Finder Cover Flow initial view

How can I set the initial view settings when using cover flow within finder-
the finder file/folder list at the bottom of the window is way too short and the cover flow file preview portion of the window is massive.
    Appreciate?

For me, I find that when I resize the window, it stays that way. If it doesn't stick for you, try resizing, and then pressing Command-J to open View Preferences, check the Always Open in Cover View box at the top, and the Use as Defaults at the bottom. They're not directly related, but I've found that the helped.
If those don't help, go to the folder ~/Library/Preferences (where ~ stands for you Home folder), and remove a couple of files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
In the ByHost folder, there will be one or more com.apple.HIToolbox.randomjunkthatdoesn'tmatter.plist file; remove all of them.
Log in/out, and see if that helps.

  • Initial View set in PDF Document not working.

I have a PDF document w/Initial View in the Document Properties set to Navigation tab: 'Bookmarks panel and Page', and Open to page '1''.  However, when I send this document out, the Initial View settings do not happen (The PDF opens to the page last accessed before the document was sent and the navigation pane does not display).  Help - what am I missing or doing wrong when trying to distribute PDF?
I am using Acrobat X Pro.

It might be the settings in Acrobat that is causing the problem. Edit – Preferences…, under Categories select Documents. Uncheck Restore last view settings when reopening documents.

  • PDF through VBA: How to set Initial View?

    - Adobe Acrobat 6.0 (sorry we're a bit out of date)
    - MS Office 2003
    - MS Windows XP Professional SP2
I am trying to automate the creation of PDFs from MS Word. I have succeeded. My VBA code works fine (have pasted it below). I can create a PDF, and give it a title and author.
The problem I am having is with the Initial View settings, i.e. how the document opens. I want to hardcode:
    1. Show to "Page Only"
    2. Page Layout to "Continuous"
    3. Magnification to "Fit Width"
The first I have done, using AcroExch.PDDoc's SetPageMode() function (although it seems to default to that even without doing this). I cannot, for the life of me, find any reference to the second and third, though. This must be doable, right? Be kind of weird not to have access to this in the API.
Hours of Googling has thrown up three ideas I've discarded.
    1. AcroExch.App's SetPreference() function. This would presumably change preferences on the machine making the PDF, not reading it. I don't want to fiddle with other people's preferences anyway.
    2. AcroExch.AVPageView's ZoomTo() function. Ditto. I am not creating an app to view PDFs, just trying to configure the default for opening one I've created.
    3. An "undocumented" SetOpenInfo() in AcroExch.PDDoc. This looked the most promising for Magnification, but nobody seems to be able to get it to work, and it does nothing for me either. Someone somewhere even suggested it had been deprecated in later versions of Acrobat.
    So... what do I do?
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

  • Document Properties - Initial View

Is there a way to set the "Initial View" settings when creating PDFs rather than manually changing them all via the Document Properties dialog box?
Most specifically, I would like to set the Magnification to "Fit Page" for all the PDFs I create. I don't see it as something that can be defined in the Acrobat Distiller presets.
Haven't found anything about it on the forums after several searches.
    Thanks.

    Thanks, Dave.
I will check that epilogue.ps out.
Not sure why my searches of the forums turned up nothing.
I actually use the terms Initial View (among others) and it gave me zero results.
Obviously, your post should have appeared.
