Actions and Templates CS2 to CS3

Looking for pointer to a resource that will explain how to migrate important resources from Photoshop CS2 to CS3. Principally interested in actions and metadata templates, but there may be others.

Renee,
Since CS, PS has the ability to easily handle most common PARs, because of its interface with video, where PARs are a big deal. If you're going to Web, or going to print, then square pixels, are what you need, and what PS was originally designed to work with.
Are you opening frame-captures from video? These could be almost any file format, TIFF, TGA, JPG, BMP, PSD, etc. If so, then they may well have a different PAR. Are you adding these TIFFs to a New Image, created with, say, the NTSC 4:3 .9 PAR setting?
If all you do is square pixel work, and all of your Assets are square pixel images, AND PS is still telling you about the PAR, then a pref. is likely messed up for you. Try restting your prefs.

  • Can photoshop actions created in CS2  be imported and used in Photoshop CS6?

I have a slew of actions that I created in Cs2, my previous version of Photoshop. I've upgraded to CS6  and would like to use my previous actions in the new version. Is this possible? If so, how?
    Thanks!

If you saved the in CS2 in theroy you should be able to load them in newer versions of Photoshop. As far as I know all Action created in CS2 will play in CS3 correctly.
Adode introduced options in CS4 that are not compatible with how Photoshop was designed to run.  When these options are set to have Photoshop work the way it worked before the CS4 options.  Actions will Play correctly.  However if you set these options to change the way Photoshop works some actions will now work correctlr in CS4, CS5 and CS6. It make no difference what version you record those actions in. Recording an action in CS6 doese not mean it will play correctly in CS6.  The Action will record the same way in CS2, CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS6.  Thet will play correctle in CS2, CS3 and they may play correctle in CS4, CS5 and CS6 depending on what options are set.

  • Upgrading from Illustrator 10:  CS2 or CS3? (CS4 and CS5 do not run on my Mac)

Provided I'm able to find a legitimate copy of the upgrade version from a reputable source, which one is the highest Mac version that one can upgrade from Illustrator 10?  CS2 or CS3?  Higher versions won't run on my PPC Mac anyway.
I'm asking now because I just finished upgrading my ancient Acrobat Standard 5.x to Acrobat Professional 8 for under $29, shipped.  It turned out to be a sealed, unopened box, and I've registered it with Adobe already and collected the registration incentive received from Adobe (11 hours of training at lynda.com).
Any input will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    CS4 requires OS10.4.11 or newer.
Basically, you can go all the way to CS4 or anything short of that. Without moving past the PPC chip and OS10.4.11.
Since CS4 will work, CS3 will certainly work. I believe CS3 required OS 10.4.8 or newer. Checking my disk.... yup 10.4.8 or newer. I would simply look for whatever you can find, short of CS5. That itself may sort out what you can purchase.
Actually thinking upgrades.. you're right. Only 3 versions. So for "upgrade" you're limited to CS3 from Ai10. CS3 will run great on a PPC with 10.4.11. I'd search for that if possible. I wouldn't settle for CS2.

  • Difficulties with templates and CSS in DW CS3

I'm having difficulty with CS3 and templates.
I started a new site. I created an HTML file (with CSS for
some formatting - colors and margins) and made a template from the
HTML file, creating one editable region (plus the default two of
the page title and the additional area in the header). I then
created my site HTML files from this new template. When I tried
updating the template, I got an error that I had nested editable
regions in the HTML files. I checked the template, and I don't. I
checked the HTML files and I did see two </body> tags at the
    end.
I started over. I updated my starting file and made a new
template, overwriting my old one. I created new files from the new
template. Although the HTML files display fine in the browsers,
when I try to view them in Design View, this round DW doesn't
render them with the CSS, and it did the first time.
What's going on, and can I get it to stop?
    Thanks!

I use File>New...>Page from Template, select the
template, go to editable region, add my content, then save the
result as an HTML file. Same as I've done lots of times. The Update
page when template changes checkbox is checked.

  • Upgrade Photoshop from CS2 to CS3 in Macintosh

I am currently using Photoshop CS2 Mac version and DO NOT have CS3 beta version installed. I have couple installation questions whose answers are hard to find anywhere else, hope I can find them from this forum.
Since I heard a lot of troubles regarding upgrading PS from CS2 to CS3 if there is CS3 beta version already installed in Mac, I am a little be nervous. Here is my questions:
    1. Can CS2 and CS3 co-exist?
    2. Do I have to manually uninstalled CS2 prior to upgrading? If yes, how do I do it? I am assuming that CS3 upgrade should have a program to uninstall previous versions of PS, am I correct?
    3. How do I deal with my current registration?
    4. I have third-party plug-ins such as OnOne Mask Pro 4.0, nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 installed in CS2. What's the right procedure I should take to avoid their re-installation?
    5. I also have Lightroom installed now, will CS3 upgrade affect it? Do I need to take any action?
    Thank you very for help!
    Regards,
    Howard

    Patrick,
Welcome to the Macintosh. Glad the transition has worked well for you. A few quick points, here:
    1. Download the combo update to Mac OS X 10.4.11 from the Apple site.
    2. Any software that came from the previous owner must be Apple software that is included with the operating system; or, if other Apple or third party software (including Adobe or Microsoft), it must have a valid license that has been transfered to your name and you must have all discs. Otherwise, it must be deleted in order for you to be legal.
    3. The best current utilities for maintaining and optimizing your computer include: Apple's own Disk Utility (on your Mac OS system disc); Alsoft DiskWarrior; and Maintain Cocktail. Other very good tools include: Roxio Toast (for disc burning); SuperDuper! (for complete system backups); and FontAgentPro (for organizing and maintaining large numbers of fonts). Whether you just print family snapshots or you do four-color commercial printing, you need to calibrate your monitor. Look into the Spyder3 or EyeOne calibrators.
Also note that it is important to repair permissions and run DiskWarrior when you install or upgrade any software on your system. As the specifics of these have been detailed numerous times in this forum, I recommend that you do a forum search for the details.
    4. If you already have installed CS2, then you only need to purchase the upgrade version of CS3.
    I hope this helps!
    Neil

  • Existing Actions and Plugins Compatible with Photoshop CS5?

I have actions and plug-in products, and while I've done everything I can to make them future-proof, I'm wondering if any Photoshop CS5 beta testers can speak to whether existing actions and plugins are generally compatible with Photoshop CS5?
    Specifically:
Are existing 32 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing 64 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing actions (both platforms) proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
I'm anxiously awaiting the go-ahead to download my copy to verify everything, but I'm just trying to get a feel for whether I'll have work to do.  I'm hoping for the level of compatibility seen in CS3 and CS4 - all my software worked perfectly with no changes.
    Thanks.

I appreciate you all taking the time to answer, but none of you has actually said what DOES happen with your existing actions / plugins and CS5 beta.
I know that experience with one set of actions and plugins doesn't guarantee operation with another, but if, for example, someone actually stated, "all my old plugins failed to work with CS5" or "they all seemed to work okay" then I'd have a better idea of what to expect.
Please keep in mind I've been developing commercial actions since PS6 and plugins since CS2, and all my software works on all 32 bit versions and 64 bit CS4 on Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64, so I'm intimately familiar with what might happen and what should happen.  Plus I've programmed them to be quite resilient, and I don't expect any of the CS5 feature changes to break them.  What I don't know is whether Adobe has fundamentally altered the plugin interface this time around, or has deprecated any old filters, causing a plugin or action that used to work to fail now.  The word "rewrite" has been used to describe CS5, and that has me wondering.
In short, I'm really looking for actual experience with the CS5 beta here.
Wish I could get the CS5 SDK already.  I don't understdand why Adobe doesn't release that in advance.
    Thanks.

  • Customised Flavor Drag and Drop in Indesign CS3

    Hello All,
I'm implementing a to Drag & Drop from an external application (say windows Desktop) on to Indesign CS3 Document. I have implemented a Custom Flavor helper and a Data Exchange helper for my custom Flavor.
I have registered my Custom Flavor in Constructor of My Custom Flavor
    RegisterExternalFlavor(TEXT("Portable Document Format"));
In the Function CouldAcceptTypes, it is
    if (dataIter != nil)
// Test for swatches in the drag
    DataExchangeResponse response;
    response = dataIter->FlavorExistsWithPriorityInAllObjects(kPDFExternalFlavor);
    bool16 valid = response.CanDo();
    if (valid)
    return DragDrop::TargetResponse(response, DragDrop::kDropWillCopy);
    return DragDrop::kWontAcceptTargetResponse;
Now My Problem it is this variable "valid" is always False. So it is not going inside the loop. and hence I am not getting call in ProcessDragDropCommand. The Only calls which I am getting is in
    DataExchangeHandler::CreateScrapStorage() & DataExchangeHandler::GetFlavor()
Note that I am dropping PDF only. I suppose the problem is in dropped Flavor only that it is not accepting.
    Kindly help.
I am stuck at this point.
    ..Many Thanks

From the Swing tutorial check out this section on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/dnd.html#customComp]Data Transfer With a Custom Component.
The [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/example-1dot4/index.html#DragPictureDemo]Drag Picture Demo has the code I think you are looking for. Specifically the PictureTransferHandler.java class.
    a) In the createTransferable() method the source component is saved
    b) In the importData() method the source and target component are compared. When they are the same you exit immediately and set a "shouldRemove" boolean.
    c) In the exportDone() method your check the action and the shouldRemove boolean before doing anything.

  • Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS2 not starting - here is how it was solved.

This document is merely a compilation of information found at the sources named at the bottom of this document.
Basically running older Adobe CS2 Software on a MacBook Pro 10.6.x Snow Leopard - probably like many of you that either can't afford the upgrade to CS3, CS4 or CS5, or maybe don't see the need to do so.  It's running good but it is slow since it is using Rosetta, but it does work - well, used to work.
Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2, etc. were all running fine after the upgrade to Snow Leopard (under 10.6, 10.6.1 and 10.6.2).  Then the update to 10.6.3 was installed.  At the same time a bunch of other updates - including the Acrobat 8.2 update - were installed.  Not really sure what did it, but all of a sudden Illustrator CS2 stopped responding at the start up screen - no longer started up and InDesign CS2 popped the registration/licensing screen.  When trying to enter license info on first key press the application quit entirely.
So maybe the 10.6.3 update was the culprit.  Never even thought that it could be the Acrobat 8.2/8.2.1 updates.  Then I found this thread here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/613287?tstart=0 (good reading)
Which ultimately pointed me the the instructions here:
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468.html
Replace the corresponding files present in the “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/” folder with the one attached to this document.
Download the attached Mac.dmg (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468/attachments/Mac.dmg) file to a machine where the issue is seen.
    Close all Adobe applications
Double Click the Mac.dmg file to mount it.
Copy Mac folder from mounted image. Paste it to /Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/.
A message appears to confirm to replace the existing 'Mac' folder. Replace the 'Mac' folder.
Launch Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
The Mac folder attached to this KB document already has the correct permissions set, so it should not be necessary to complete the steps below. However there may be cases where the permissions for the Mac folder get overwritten. In such a case, the original issue can reoccur. To solve this issue, complete the steps below:
Follow Solution 1 and make sure that all Adobe applications are closed.
Right or Control click and select 'Get Info' on the Mac folder  in “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/”, which you have copied from the .dmg file attached to this document.
Verify that under 'Sharing and Permissions' all users listed have no write access
If a change is required, click the padlock symbol and provide your Administrator credentials
Select the user which has Write access and change it to 'Read Only'.
Ensure the user 'Everyone' is set to 'No Access.
To check if the issue has been solved, launch Acrobat 8.2 and then Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
    < end quote
Even after following the instructions still "no love" from Illustrator CS2 or InDesign CS2.  InDesign did no longer show the registration screen, but it didn't continue launching, and Illustrator progressed further along in the start up sequence but also never finished launching.
Then I found another article on the adobe site.  I am just quoting the part performed  and which ultimately did the trick.
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/326/326388.html
Steps 1 and 2 are not relevant so no need to do them
    3. At the Finder, choose File > Find.
    4. TypeAdobeFnt10.lst (Illustrator CS2), select the system drive, and then press Return.
    5. Delete all AdobeFnt10.lst files found.
    6. Restart the computer.
    7. Restart Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new Adobefnt10.lst or AdobeFnt07.lst file.
    < end quote
So, this solved the problems at least for the time being.  Hope this helps someone else a bit.

Illustrator CS2 stopped working for me on Snow Leopard as well. What it all boiled down to was not to update to 12.0.1. Not sure which release of Snow Leopard I was on when I figured that out but I keep up-to-date, am now at 10.6.6 and CS2 still works fine. I keep getting prompted to update to 12.0.1 from time to time but just cancel it.
I'm fairly sure I was at 12.0.1 already when I moved from Leopard to Snow Leopard and it was that, not a Snow Leopard update, that "broke" CS2 12.0.1. If I remember correctly, if you now try to apply the update, it won't go through with it anyway.

  • Photoshop CS2 or CS3 on Snow Leopard Mac?

Does anyone have a clue about whether CS2 or CS3 will run on the new Snow Leopard OSX when it is released? Apple has indicated that Snow Leopard will only run on Intel equipped machines. I'm presently running G4 and G5 units. I was thinking of buying a new Mac PowerBook Pro later this year but if it is going to render all my present software obsolete, i may rethink the question and stay on the Leopard OS version.

Thanks! I appreciate your response. it will help in my future decision making. BTW- although Adobe may not support CS2 on Leopard 10.5.7, my experience is that it has been running fine with the exception of the "web gallery" feature. I am able to build web galleries fine in Photoshop Elements 6 however. The failure of web galleries for me in CS2 may be something other than the OS affecting it.

  • Upgrade from CS2 to CS3? (for Windows XP)

Hi, guys. I'm new here. And I only signed up for the forums so I could ask someone for help!! Haha! So, here goes......
I recently started using Adobe CS2.
I signed up for the 30 day trial of RadLab by Totally Rad. It worked fine, but my trial expired before I could finish the photos I had been editing. So I uninstalled the RadLab trial, signed up for a new trial with a different e-mail address, and re-installed it. Only, this time, RadLab wouldn't work. So I contacted Totally Rad and the guy told me that RadLab won't work on CS2. It has to be CS3 or higher. (I'm still confused as to how RadLab worked for 30 days on my CS2 if it supposedly only works on CS3 or higher)...
So, now, I am looking to upgrade from CS2 to CS3... but I don't know where to look. I tried Google, but nothing seems to match what I'm looking for. I would hate to upgrade all the way up to CS5, because I don't think my PC could handle it. (I've been told that CS5 takes up a lot of room, and I don't think my computer is strong enough to hold it all. My memory capabilities are very limited. Even with CS2, I couldn't open/edit much all at once.)
I say all that, to ask this...
How do I go about upgrading from CS2 to CS3, and it not cost me an arm and a leg? I'm on a super-tight budget ($150 is the absolute highest I'm willing to go). I'm unemployed and money is extremely tight.
Thank you in advance for your help!!

I don't want to burst your bubble about using Photoshop CS3, but I would expect any software with good trialware security to not work twice on the same system no matter whether you sign up with a different eMail address.  They'd be stupid not to have it work that way.
If you need the software to get your project done, why not actually buy it?
You're no doubt expecting to derive value from your project...  Shouldn't the people who worked to create the software you're using derive some value from their work as well?
I can appreciate your being on a budget, but the old saying "if you want to play you have to pay" comes to mind.  I'm sorry to be blunt.

  • CS2 upgrade - CS3 or CS4?

I have CS2 Premium and Studio 8 (they came together). It includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Version Cue, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Contribute and Flashpaper.
Is it more cost effective to upgrade to CS4 (my MacBook Pro can handle it ... )or is CS3 good enough? AND can I still upgrade from CS2 to CS3?
I'm a working pro and will probably go to 4 eventually, but just trying to spread the cost!
    My gear: MacBook Pro 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 250Gb HD, OS X 10.5.6

Neil and all: The Apple Store does not sell any CS3 software and immediately stopped selling it upon receipt of Adobe's new suite of applications. Furthermore, Apple sells all applications and hardware and software for full MSRP -- you get no discount on anything, save whatever Apple (only) has on sale.
I note one thing here among the protests:
i Nobody has mentioned any reasons for upgrading to CS4 on a Mac other than "it's current and you might get burned if you buy shady software from a shady vendor."
i Nobody has offered the original poster any specific advantages of CS4 over CS3 applications, save "it might cost more to upgrade to CS5 from CS3."
Frankly, everyone writing software today is hard-pressed to get applications out that work well. Adding a 64-bit operating system to the mix increases the workload. My hat's off to these programmers.
Some upgrades back, Adobe released the healing brush for Photoshop. That was very much worth the upgrade. The tighter integration between Adobe applications in CS3 was a good improvement. But when improvements are "evolutionary" and not "revolutionary" in terms of my workflow, I tend to be a late-adopter or I wait a whole version to upgrade.
    Has anyone tried CS4 on a G4? How about a G4 running at 1GHz?
I know what Marrin's running and she's set for CS4 or CS5, as she has eight cores running like a bat out of hades and probably still has room to upgrade her RAM. But even with a dual quad-core Mac Pro, there is a performance hit that occurs after an upgrade while one is learning the new ways of working.
I like to call that "the fritter factor," where a certain amount of productivity is reduced because you are "frittering" away valuable time trying to figure out the new workflows that have been introduced due to the upgrade.
I don't plan to upgrade, for example, to Microsoft's latest Office suite. I know the suite of applications I have and they work just fine, thanks. Microsoft would love for me to "upgrade" to a version that now lacks Visual Basic for Applications and I don't have the time to rewrite my macros in Applescript (assuming that works for the new Microsoft suite).
The upgrade to Adobe's CS4 is considerably more costly than $7 monthly. And I have not been convinced that it will run at all well on my Macintosh. I also have no idea what the "fritter factor" is versus the suite I all ready have.
Perhaps the Apple salesman needs an education. He certainly was not trying to (as he was unable to) sell me CS3. But, as he works for Apple and not Adobe, he is not required to be a walking advertorial for Adobe. He was speaking from his own experience in using the Adobe suite of applications on his own computer in his personal time. I found it interesting that he made his comment and I reported it to my friend.
As to 64-bit applications, it is known that they can work on larger projects through the use of more system RAM for those projects. But, since data arrives in 64-bit chunks, processing can happen up to twice as fast as 32-bit processing because the data words are twice as large. Adobe is to be praised for rewriting one application in the suite, as the task is difficult. But I don't use Vista. I have a Mac.

  • PLEASE HELP - Problem with 2 column fixed template in Dreamweaver CS3

I am trying to create a website using the 2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and footer html template in Dreamweaver CS3.  I tried putting a picture in the right side bar as well as with in the main content or left portion of the page, and neither picture is showing up when I view it in any of the browsers I'm using.
I've made some minor changes in colors and sizing, but other than that no other changes.  The pic I put in for the header is showing up just fine though.
Any help or advice to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Here is the base Dreamweaver code including the pic references that I'm trying to show on either side - when the browser opens, it only shows a blank space where the pics should be... let me know what you think.  Thanks!!

  • IPhoto, Photoshop CS2 or CS3 beta?

I asked here earlier if iphoto can change the color of peoples eyes and received the response that iphoto is primarilly a final stage editing tool.
therefore im asking which is better... this should be answered by those who have used either/or both...
which is better right now... to edit photos
    Photoshop CS2 or CS3 Beta?
All i want to do is simply make photos better. photos of friends and family. adjustments like changing or making eyes a lighter color, things like that.

    Decemberist:
I've been using the beta since it's been out and have had no problems at all. It's so much faster in loading and running than CS2.
But Terence is exactly right about PS Elements. PSE can't work with CMYK files but that's pretty much specialized for professional printing. For the general user it does everything we could want. Here's one example of the advanced capabilities.

  • CS2 vs CS3 printing to Epson 3800

In trying to diagnose a Photoshop/11880 printing problem, I made some test prints to an Epson 3800 from the same test file. Andrew Rodney's "printer test" image includes very smooth color gradations R > M > B > C > G > Y > R. This image was printed from PS CS2, PS CS3 and Lightroom to the Epson 3800 on Epson Premium Semigloss Photo paper using Epson's Pro38PSPP profile. The CS2 and Lightroom prints were identical. The transitions in the color gradations were very smooth. The CS3 print was very close in overall color balance, but the transitions in the gradations were not as smooth, or gradual, especially between magenta and blue, and between green and yellow. Shouldn't prints of the same file from CS2 and CS3, using the same profile, look identical? The on-screen soft proofs in CS2 and CS3 look identical, but the prints do not.

    OS X 10.4.11.
    Photoshop CS2 9.0.2
    Photoshop CS3 10.0.1.
    Lightroom 1.2
    Epson 3800, Driver Version 3.57
    Direct USB connection.
Epson profiles are located in driver package (as installed).
    Epson Semigloss Photo Paper 250.
Photoshop Manages Color, Epson Pro38PSPP profile.

Yes, all settings were the same. I got official word from Epson today there are problems with CS3. Epson, Apple and Adobe tech people are meeting in a few weeks to find a solution. In the meantime, all printing from my Macs to the 3800 and 11880 will be from CS2 and Lightroom. Thanks for your input.
