Actions in CS5.1

Heya, I'm trying to edit an action. I'm trying to change how I move something. I'm using a mac, I've tried clicking on the specific item in the action and hitting record; NO JOY.
I've tried selecting 'record again', but NO JOY. When I click on 'record again', it quickly goes to reord, then out of record and then it's back to normal as if it wasn't recording.
I've put in a lot of work on this action it's a shame.
The action itself, is placing an image as a watermark, then moving it down and centre, slightly editing the image with effects, then finally flattening the image. Auto colour tone etc.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks Conroy,
Ideally I'd like the watermark approximately 2/3 at the bottom, or maybe even 3/4.
That can easily be done in an action. The impotrant thing to know is Photoshop can align layers to 9 spots in a selection. It does not matter if what is being aligned is smaller or larger then the actual selection. I align images that are larger then the selection to the center of the selected area then mask the layer with the selection to to virtualy crop the layer to the selection in collagesg like this one.
Note the shape of the center image.
So to do a percentage is easy but you need to be a deviate like myself. First you need to make the selection that is lets go with 75% 3/4 the canvas size centered.. A little tricky but easy record this in an action. First add a new empty layer. Then use the rectangle selection tool .In the option bar set to fixed size mode and set the width and height to 75% then click in the top left cornor of the cancas to make the selection. Then use edit fill and fill with black. This will fill a area 75%  wide and high in the empty layer added. Then do select all and the use menu Layer>Align Layers to selection>Vertical center  then Layer>Align Layers to Selection>Horizontal center. The added 75% black work layer will now be centered in the center of the canvas. Next record select the current layers tranparency Ctrl+click the current black layer in the laters palette, You now have the selection needed. The Current work layer is no longer needed so delete it. When you do the the logo layer under it becomes the current target again. Use menu Layer>Align layers to selection>bottom edges and then Later>Align Layers to selection>Right Edges. The logo's botton right boundry is now 75% to the Canvas's right and 75% down the canvas's height.
Note Conroy point out and importaint thing in his append.  Set the Ruler units. While you do not need to record the actual setting of the ruiler units in the actual action for that would change a users preference on then if recorded. It is very important to have the Ruler units set correctly when recording some action steps. Steps like Transform and move record setting based on the current ruler units setting. Absolute value Pixels or relative values like inches relative to documents resolution DPI or relative by a percentage of documents width and height.
Same images landscape images used in a collage template designed for portrait images. Note how the landscape images were resized aligned and virtually cropped

  • TROUBLE WITH ACTIONS IN CS5.5

I JUST UPGRADED TO CS5.5 FROM CS3.  I HAVE ACTIONS I CREATED IN CS3 THAT DO NOT WORK IN CS5.5 AND I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE KNOWS WHY.
THE ACTION I HAVE IN CS3...
    STEP 1: SELECT ALL
STEP 2: CHANGE X VALUE TO 1.4375 (IN TRANSFORM PANEL)
STEP 3: CHANGE Y VALUE TO .762 (IN TRANSFORM PANEL)
THAT'S IT! IT'S A SIMPLE ONE THAT CENTERS ALL ART ON MY TEMPLATE.  WHEN I USE THE SAME ACTION IN CS5.5 IT DOESN'T WORK. IT JUST MOVES IT TO RANDOM PLACES. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY??
I AM ON A PC, WINDOWS XP

I'm having a similar problem, seems related, but I don't understand the issue.
I have an object, with a center of 0,0.
I am using the transform box to move this to 2,0.  I then make a copy of this, and move this copy to 4,0
When playing this recorded action back, it does not repeat my results.
Would you happen to know why this is occuring?
    Regards,
    Ry

  • CS3 actions to CS5

I have a problem, I have just upgraded to CS5 photoshop from CS3.
I want to use the custom actions I created in CS3 in CS5 photoshop but I'm unable to import them.
I am no longer able to access or open my old version of CS3 and I have searched my hard drive extensively to find the original custom CS3 actions but no joy, Can anybody save me from this hell as I desperately need to use these asap!!!

    Re: CS3 actions to CS5
Then I was probably wrong in assuming one could use that File that easily.
Actually this was a good call to use Actions Palette.psp. Renaming it to .atn is where you went astray..
One more possibility would be to (after making a copy of it for safety) replace the CS5 Actions Palette.psp with the one from CS3 – no
    guarantees here either, though.
According to Adobe's Chris Cox, who occasionally comments in this form, the method you suggested will in fact work.

  • Actions from CS5 fail in CS6

    Using CS6 v13.0 x64 on a Win 7 ^4 bit PC with 12Gb RAM.
I have actions that call for an image to be opened, selected, copied, the image closed and the "clipboard" image pasted into another, already open, image in PS.  This works without fail in CS5 but fails in CS6 - using the same 8 bit images.
I either get the message "The paste command is not available" or "The object current layer is not available".
Is there any rationale for this difference?  Is there a setting I need to change?  Am not aware of changing any preference, other than scratch disk, memory states, cursor view.
    Confused!
    Dave

Noel the acknowledged CS6 bug is:
Photoshop CS6: Actions do not work properly, while "Open Documents as Tabs" are not selected
Open in Tabs bypasses the problem but I hate tabs Like to size and position the image windows where I want.
Peter Green Employee of Photoshop Family  wrote:
    Hi Sergei,
Thanks for the downloadable action. That helped us see where the problem lies. I've been able to reproduce the issue in CS6 in Windows (not on Mac), but not in CS5. Seems it's a new bug, I'll make sure it gets looked at.
It looks like the "Paste" command is happening too fast, and before the first image really comes to focus to be able to paste in.
As a workaround, here's what you can do.
Record these steps in your action AFTER the Close command.
Select the Close command, and click the "Record" button in Actions Panel.
Click the Panel Flyout and choose "Playback Options"
Click "Step by Step" and click OK
    Then click Stop recording
    THEN
Select the Paste step, click Record again
Click the Panel Flyout and choose "Playback Options"
    Click Accelerated, then click OK.
This will cause Photoshop to slow down a bit between the close and paste command in order to wait for the image to become in focus.
    Hope this helps!
    Pete
I do believe the bug is a window of opitunity bug but its not confined to only to Action that use paste.  I have many Actions and Script that fail using CS6 with commands other then paste.  What all the actions and scripts seem to have in common is they access image files during their processing.  They do not all fail the same way or any common command like paste.  May be a tread or processor problem when one thread need what the other thread is working on. What seems to be happening is that some command tries to execute before the document object update is ready so Photoshop has no document and any command that requires a document will fail. Like fit on screen, select a region etc. I have seen many commands fail my scripts use Paste into or Place but fail before then.  The scripts only fails using Photoshops CS6 32Bit version the windos seems closed in the 64Bit version. However there is also a bug in CS6 Script retrieving Photoshop Interpolation preference when it is Photoshop default setting "BICUBICAUTOMATIC" and you can not set the Photoshop Interpolation Preference to "BICUBICAUTOMATIC".  So most of my collage script fail because of that bug.

  • How to remove list of available actions in cs5

I installed actions in 2 places and now i have duplicates in the available action list (click the arrow to the right of the action tab to see the menu for add, remove, options etc and a list of all available actions and sets).
    I removed the actions from
    C:\Users\Hal\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Actions
    and from
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Presets\Actions
and yet i still have the huge list of available actions in duplicate.
    How do I eliminate these?
    Thanks
    Hal

Ah, my mistake.  I didn't understand you fully.
I believe the actions that show up in that menu are in one of these folders:
    Photoshop 64 bit:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Presets\Actions
Photoshop 32 bit on a 64 bit system:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Actions
Photoshop on a 32 bit system:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Actions
You would need to move/remove the .atn files from the above folder(s) to get them to stop appearing in that list.

  • Importing Actions from CS5 to CS6

I have written many actions for PS CS5 and recently installed CS6. I cannot figure out how to import my old Actions into CS6. I fould the Load Actions dialogue, which tells me to locate the Action(s) I want to load. That's where I get stuck. Tried and tried but cannot locate the CS5 Actions I wrote. I am using OS X 10.7.3. Suggestions?

I am a dullard when it comes to some of these things. Couldn't find a SET NAME command. However, it occurred to me that my Acrions were just in the default set in CS5. I created a new set, moved all of my actions into it, and then was able to do Save Actions without a problem. Of course, that loaded easily in CS6. Problem solved. Just wish that there were a much simpler way.
Appreciate your help. Now all I have to do is figure out the rest of CS6.

  • Actions in CS5

I purchased an action from a digital scrapbooking artist.  It worked once and now won't work.  The artist tweaked the action, it ran once again and now doesn't work.  I have purchasd many actions from this artist and never had any trouble.  She makes a quality product.  PSCS5 is also acting quirky in another area.  When I try to select a pattern within the action, the slider bar won't slide.  In order to see the last pattern row, I have to click one of the other patterns near the bottom to move the slider in order to view the last row.  I've tried to quite the application and restart the compter (iMac) to no avail.  Do I need to uninstall CS5 and reinstall? If so, how do I go about doing that?

It worked once and now won't work.
Please elaborate. How does the Action fail, any error messages?
Which operations does the Action do?

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)

If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • Scripts in actions in cs5

I only recently installed CS5 and haven’t been following this Forum for some time, but I found nothing on this matter with a quick search, so please forgive me if this has been discussed already …
Is it possible that the Illustrator team has prolonged the tradition of having Scripts removed from Actions at quitting for another version?

I would NOT be in the least bit surprised…
I kind of am, because, if I remember correctly, this shortcoming has been known for three or four versions and nobody getting around to fixing it in all that time seems … well, it’s hard to find a polite way of expressing what it seems like to me, so I better don’t do it.

  • Missing action in CS5

I created an action, which I saved in the Default Action list and have been using it for quite some time to create different colored images for the web.  All of a sudden, it is missing from the list and I'm not sure where it could be.  Any ideas? It is a pain to create, so I'm hoping to find it easily somewhere. Any help is appreciated.
I did notice that a different action I created in Photoshop is still there, so it seems to be only an Illustrator issue.
    Thanks,
    Christine

I guess, you had to reset the preferences file. Then the default actions will be lost. Better save them to a new set and save that one in a file.

  • Vibrance level not recording in action in CS5

I'm trying to record an action in which I set the vibrance level.  After creating a new action I add a vibrance adjustment layer and set the slider to "70".  I stop the action and when I run it I get the layer added, but the vibrance level is set to "0".

Warning about creating actions that add adjustment layer.  Unless your carefull the way the ply bat will be a crap shoot. Adobe intriduced bufs in Photoshop CS4 adding bad option to the Added Adjustment Panel. In its Fly-out menu Adobe added to option that may brake the way actions andscripts that add adjustment  layers work.
That said the newer versions of Photoshop record addige adjustment layers in Two steps. Where old versions added a single step the add and set the adjustment setting.  The neer version of Photoshop recirds two steps instead One add the adjustment layer abt the second step adjust the adjustment layers settings.  The recording of the second step is also delayed till you start our your next operation. It sounds like you only had the first step and are missing the second step the set the vibrance to some value.
My Advice is to leave these option set to the default setting and forget they exist.  Photoshop will work like it always has worked before CS4.

  • Coming from cs3 how do I import all my plug ins and action into cs5

How do I bring in all my stuff from cs3 to cs5

Presets: Save them in CS3, copy the files to CS5.
Do NOT copy all the Adobe plugins from CS3, or you're in for a world of pain.
Just copy the third party plugins, or better yet, reinstall them for CS5.

  • Why can't I use the brushes when i run an action on CS5??

I have been trying to smooth out skin, replace color, etc. and it's just not working when I run the action. I have never had this issue before, I already tried restarting the program, resetting the brushes, and it's still not working. I have included a screenshot the action and steps.

thank you for replying, i attached another image with the layers (i'm pretty new to photoshop so i'm trying to figure it all out) when i select "naturally smooth" and attempt to paint over the skin I wan to smooth it doesn't work (i realize it's a child's skin so not much to smooth, but I have tried it with other pictures) =/

  • Using batch or actions closes CS5

    Hi all.
Whenever I try to run an action or use batch I get an error message that Photoshop CS 5 will now close. What if anything can I do? I am running XP. There are actions in the plugins/actions folder. The actions tab contains my actions and the original ones.
    JIM

It's possible that if you remove the Twain_32 optional plug-in that you have installed you will find that those functions will work.
Yes, I know they seem unrelated, and that you'll be without TWAIN support.  Apparently there's a bizarre bug in some TWAIN drivers that breaks the batch/actions processing under some conditions.  I remember a lot of posts on this subject a while back.

  • Linking actions Encore CS5

I am going around in circles here trying to figure out if the following 1) and 2) below is possible.
I have and INTRO which follows a MENU that gives the the option two select VIDEO in one of TWO LANGUAGES.
When the VIDEO ends (regardless of the language)  it returns to the MENU to select the other language
So far I have done that but what I want to also happen is...
    1)  When pressing the Menu button in the remote I want it to start playing from the INTRO (not the MENU).
    2)  When one is half way thru watching the video is there a button one can set up to take the viewer back to the MENU?
(I do have chapters to navigate forward and backward in the video but thought maybe this is possible.  If not I just forget it.)
    Enclosed is my flowchart.
Also, could you tell me why some of the boxes in the flowchart are grayed out.
    Thanks.

could you tell me why some of the boxes in the flowchart are grayed out.
You have the end action of a menu set to itself. Normally,  you leave a menu end action set to "stop." The exception is when you want to let the menu end after an amount of time or motion menu loops and then go on to another menu or movie.
    1)  When pressing the Menu button in the remote I want it to start playing from the INTRO (not the MENU).
Select the timeline you will be in (or all of them). Set the menu remote to the intro movie.
    2)  When one is half way thru watching the video is there a button one can set up to take the viewer back to the MENU?
(I do have chapters to navigate forward and backward in the video but thought maybe this is possible.  If not I just forget it.)
Same answer here. You cannot set a button on a menu while a timeline is playing (in blueray this would be a popup). But you can set the menu remote.
