Actions in PS CS3

This has been frustraiting me for ages.  Every so often I google for the solution but have never found one.  Can anyone here help...
I have created an action to prepare images for web posting.  The action resizes images, sharpens them, adds a frame writes into the frame my contact details and lastly adds the name of the subject (location, or person's name) and then outputs the image to the correct folder.  Typically I run the batch on a folder of say 30-40 images at a time.... sometimes upto 100.  All run from either bridge or as a droplet via Lightroom.
The action works great... except that each batch I run it on the "subject name" I need to insert is different.  Is there any way at all to get the action to prompt me for just that bit of information.  I've tried checking/ticking the dialog on/off option for the text field in the actions pallet and that works, but... when I'm applying the action to a batch of images it asks for the text EVERY time and doesn't remember what I typed in last time.
At the moment, the solution I have is to open one image that I want to run the batch on. Make a copy of the action and enable a stop before the text prompt... run the script to that point.  Then run/edit the text line, remove/disable the stop.  If necessary create a new droplet.  I can then go over to bridge or Lightroom and process the images using the new action.
Ideally the what I would like to hapen when I'm running an action like this is when processing the FIRST image in the batch for PS to ask me what text I want and then use that same text on all the other 30 or 40 images.
Anyone got any idea how to do this?
Thanks,
Ian M Butterfield

Hi, what has been suggested so far is exactly what I'm trying to avoid having to do.  I'm trying to avoid having to create a new action each time, I'd like to have one action that prompts me for the name.  The alternative, I guess, is there any way to grab a value from the IPTC as the text I need to write is in there?
Thanks
Ian.

  • How to solve the Error in Action for illustrator cs3

Through action in illustrator cs3 i changed the document mode RGB to CMYK via Visual Basic. But sometimes it throws 2 different kinds of error messages.
    CODE:
    appRef.DoScript "Change", "Convert"
    While (appRef.ActionIsRunning)
    WScript.sleep 1000
    Wend
    Error 1:

The Object "Document Color Mode: CMYK Color" is not currently available.
Could you please explain how to solve this error.

The input data provided as the first argument to ore.tableApply and rqTableEval are physically being moved from Oracle Database to the database server R engine, and then serially operating on the entire table  The benefit to using ore.tableApply/rqTableEval in this case is the potentially greater amount of RAM on the database server.  But it's important to note that R’s memory limitations still apply in this case.
You may have already seen the blog post on Managing Memory Limits and Configuring Exadata for Embedded R Execution where we discuss setting memory limits for the database server R engine. These suggestions can be used to load reasonably sized data tables, and you may still encounter limitations when using a very large table.
In contrast to the "table apply" functions, the "group Eval" and "row eval (" functions are parallel-enabled embedded R execution functions. They support data-parallel execution, where one or more R engines perform the same R function, or task, on different partitions of data. The following training and blog links should be helpful in choosing the correct function for your use case:

  • Importing Actions from PS-CS3 to CS4

I recently upgraded from Photoshop CS3 to CS4
I tried to import the "Actions" I used in CS3 into CS4, but they didn't work.
Is there a converter or something?  Anyway to get those actions into CS4 without re-recording them?
    Thanks,
    --PS

    Ah,  restart the program!
I just loaded my actions set from wherever they're stored on my hard drive - a directory somewhere for Photoshop stuff.
Restarted PS-CS4 and... voila, actions work.  Didn't think I needed to do that.
    Love simple solutions.
    Thanks,

  • Error message after recording and running Action In PS CS3

I have recorded an action to create a transparent image on a batch of photos. Next I ran the image processor using the File/Scripts/image processor. When running the action the error message occurs no matter how many ways I attempt to modify the action. Error: The object "Style "Shape Style"" is not currently available.
I then look in the action window to check and under the steps Make Fill Layer: Style: Shape, Style 1 appears but I can't delete it.
This one error message makes it impossible for me to image process a batch of photos with a watermark on them.
Thank You In Advance for your Help.

can you save them into a new action set then save that?
ex. create a new set, icon bottom of action palette, then create a new action in that set, then save that set via the flyout menu in the action palette and save action set
what i'm getting at is maybe you have the action palette file locked.
the main file is called "Actions Palette.psp" and lives in: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME_HERE\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings
make sure you have full access to that folder.
another thing to maybe try... copy out that whole folder to a new location. then delete everything in it. then restart photoshop. then try to save the action again. at worst you can always copy the old files back in, at best, you'll clear out a disturbing error...

  • Actions not working- CS3

I have my own purchased copy of Photoshop CS3 on a PowerMac G5 and it's been working fine.
Now I can't get the actions to work, and I have 1,000 files to resize.
I've reinstalled the program, but nothing has changed.
    Here's what I do:
Through Bridge, open image (tiff), open actions
create new set, create new action, Record
resize image, save image as jpg to new folder, close, Stop Action
In  Photoshop, Batch, select action, select source and destination folders, hit ok
Action starts, opens up file, resizes, closes
Usually nothing appears in the new folder.
    Today:
It is now saving a tiff and a jpg to the new folder, but the jpgs are totally the wrong size, and the tiff is not supposed to be there.
It's good it's actually saving an image now, but not still doing what I specify
    Any suggestions?

A Save As-step with Folder-seelction in an Action can be problematic.
I recommend you just use File > Scripts > Image Processor and drop the Save As-step from the Action.

  • How to move styles and actions from PS CS3 to PS CC

I have just signed up for Adobe Creative Cloud and Photoshop CC is downloading as I type this. I have been using PS CS3. I don't have a lot, but I do have a few styles (blending options) that I have used in a number of PS files. I also have a few actions set up. Is there some way to export/import these for use in PS CC? I have not yet un-installed CS3.
    Thanks!

    Nevermind, Done it!

  • Saving actions before reinstalling CS3

I intend to do a full new install of vista 64 bit thereby causing the reinstallation of CS3. Is there any way to save my actions so that i can use them again after reinstallation rather than having to recreate them?
Secondly, is there any information whether CS4 will support more than 4 gb of ram?
    Thanks
    Roger Lieberman

Just back them up from the actions folder. Copy them back when you're
done. And don't forget to deactivate the software first.
And yes, Photoshop CS4 will be available as native 64 bit as well as the
    Dave Milbut 32 bit edition.

  • Issue with action 'Place' in CS3

I have been having an issue with an action I made. The action is:
    {Set Background
Set Layer Styles of current layer
    Image Size
    Canvas Size
    Place
    Move Current layer
    Save}
My issue is when it come to 'place' if the image is larger than the window it will center to the window not the canvas.
    The details of 'Place' are:
    filename.jgp
    Center: center
    Translate: 0 inches, 0 inches
I was wondering if there was anything in the action I should have added.
Also, could someone explain why it does this?

Thanks for the help. It worked, kinda...
It was already checked so I unchecked>applied. Tested it. It didn't properly scale the placed image
Went in checked it. Tested it. It worked like a charm.
Restarted PS with it still checked, tested the action and I had the orginal issue.
Checked my preferences and it was still checked.
    Unchecked>applied.
    Checked>applied -worked fine.
I'm assuming this is an error in the program that it is not properly reading the preferences. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Batch Process/Actions Automation with CS3 - Save 2 Files at Once

Trying to figure this out is making my head spin. Say I have three files in a folder called house.tif, apple.tif, and dog.tif. I want to run a batch process on those to save two separate PDF files for each, one high res and one low res, that would ideally stay in the same folder and be named house_lowres.pdf and house_highres.pdf, apple_lowres.pdf and apple_highres.pdf etc.
How can I do that with Actions and Batch Processing without overwriting any files?
    Thanks!
    Kim

I was wondering if you had a chance to look more into it?
    Thanks a lot,
    Didier-

  • Default actions Windows XP CS3

Trying to run the default vignette action, I get a message that "feathering is not currently available." I'm wondering why I'm getting the error message and how to fix it. Thanks for your help.

Is there a selection? You need to have a selection active for feathering to work.
Aside from that, I'd suggest you go through the Action step-by-step and try to find out where it's falling down.

  • Adding Actions in CS3

In CS2 I installed a bunch of actions I downloaded: copied the atn files to Presets>Photoshop Actions.
Now I have CS3. I copied the atn files to Presets>Actions, but they don't display in the dialog when I try to install the actions from the Actions pain in CS3. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

If you copied them to the right location they should be available from the Actions panels flyout menu(you need to restart photoshop to refresh that list), if they're not, try this method of moving them to the right location:
Select the actions that you want to install and copy them to the clipboard(Ctrl+C) then go into Photoshop, open the Actions panel and from the flyout chose Load Actions. Paste the files(Ctrl+V) in the folder that gets opened. Restart Photoshop and your actions should be in the Actions panels flyout menu

  • PS CS3 - any action make 100% CPU and very choppy

    Hello!
I have PS CS3 on Win XP SP2, 2 GB RAM, nVidia geForce 8500GT with updated drivers. Until 2 days ago everything was perfect (smooth movement and action in PS CS3). Suddenly every move I make (draw a simple line, move or resize window, painting with paint brush etc) become very choppy and fragmentated and CPU raise instant to 100%. I uninstalled PS CS3 and reinstalled again, but with no luck. Any ideea about what is happening here? Thank you!
PS: Other programs like Fireworks, Flash, Illustrator etc work very nice and smooth with maximum 20-30% CPU usage.

    Hi, Cris!
What changed on your system (outside of Photoshop) around that time?  Updates?  New software?  Changed settings?
Only regular stuff: most of them only updates for browsers, antivirus, firewall etc ... nothing related to photoshop
Did you change anything inside Photoshop (showing different palettes, change in prefs)?  Especially check Photoshop's prefs for how much memory you allocated to it.
I kept my performance prefs exactly like 2-3 days ago when photoshop worked good and smooth.
What you're describing could be a video driver problem, or just VM thrashing (by the OS or Photoshop's scratch disk).  But it's also possible it's due to some other factor inside Photoshop that didn't get included in your description.
I have the last version of nVidia driver (installed 2 months ago) for video card.

  • Problem importing actions from CS3 to CS6

Hi, I have just installed CS6 and need some actions that I made in CS3 and earlier.
Info that I read on support sited said that I should be able to import them.
I have tried the edit import actions menu.
I have tried dragging the old action set to the new version.
    All to no avail.
Tried the online live help and got no where.
What I would like to try next is to instal CS4 and see if I can import the action set from CS3 and then onwards from CS4 to CS6
However the support person could not give me a link to download CS4......
Any help greatly appreciated as I really need my old actions and CS6 is a useless to me without them!

You need to load them into Photoshop to use them. Their save files can be any where on your system. Once loaded they are copied into your user id Photoshop  preferences.  Photoshop load no action set on its one. The default set is in Adobe default set of preferences. This is the only set in the Photoshop default Actions Palette.  The action set listed in the action palette's fly-out menu are the one in Adobe Presets Actions and perhaps ones you copied into there or save into a folder Adobe set up for you user id for the current release of Photoshop your using.  My advice is do not save any of your actions sets into any Adobe folder.  Instead save them into a folder like "My Photoshop Actions" load them from there too or drag an drop them onto Photoshop.  Once loaded as  I wrote above they get copied into your user id Photoshop preferences. And will be in the Actions Palette when you shutdown Photoshop and re open Photoshop.
Photoshop does not import actions you must load them one way or an other.

  • How do I transfer plugins/actions from CS3 to CS4?

I am working on a newer computer for my wife. Her current computer is Windows XP Pro with Photoshop CS3, her new computer will be Vista Ultimate with CS4, both with default installation locations. I know she has alot of actions/presets/plugins she uses; my question is...
How do I transfer all of her actions/plugins from CS3 to CS4? Is there a folder I can just copy/paste?
Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

For actions it depends how they are saved.
The best thing is to save them in sets on the old computer in a folder of your choice. They can then be loaded from a copy of that folder on the new computer.
Third party plug-ins should be installed again because not all will work in 64-bit and you may need to get updates.

  • Create action with entered text?

Is there a way to create an action in PS CS3 with the ability to type different words in the middle of the action?
For ex, I have a series of steps, then need to save the image to 2 different sizes/resolutions, with a different name. So I want the action to run, stop where I type in the name for the hi-res, continue, then stop where I type in the name for the lo-res, then finish the steps desired. Is this possible?
    Thx!

Just click the 'toggle dialog' box next to the action step 'save'´to make the action stop at the save interface.
