Actions palette question

Hi all! This might seem petty, but I'm curious. When I run an action in Illustrator CS4, the action palette item "shows itself." i.e., normally, I have all my actions so that only the name of the action appears (the arrow to the left is pointing to the right). But when I run the action, the arrow points down, revealing all the steps in the action. I have a lot of actions, so if I run them, it either takes up a lot of space on my desktop or I continuously have to scroll up and down to find the action I'm looking for because they are all showing all their steps.
Is there a way to stop it from showing all the steps? I don't want to see the steps when I run the actions.

Yes, the action "showing itself" behavior is very annoying, and I'm pretty sure that it has been requested that it be fixed.
Another way to get around this is to assign F-Keys to your actions. You have up to 48 combinations available: F1 thru F12; alone, with command key, with shift key, and with both. (F13, F14, and F15 don't work)
If you have the entire Action SET closed, you can use the F-Keys to run the actions without the palette "exploding" open on you.
By the way, you can also close all the revealed actions in a set at once if you hold down the option key while closing the set. You may have to do it twice.

I am making an addon installer for Adobe Photoshop for Mac. After installing, I need to open a ".atn" file, and from the action palette , set it to "Button mode". How can I set the mode programmatically? Is there a plist or xml or setting file that I can modify to set its mode to "Button mode"? Or is there support for this in AppleScript dictionary? Thanks.

That’s certainly beyond my grasp, so please excuse if the question is useless, but if you load the atn-file anyway could you not use a Configurator Panel for those Actions instead of trying to change the Actions Panel’s settings?

Photoshop CS3 Actions Menu Question

When I click the little arrow on my Actions palette so I can choose an action, I have so many that I cannot see all of them as they go off screen. How can I change this so I can choose from all my actions?
2nd question on all of my things like actions, layer styles, etc. when I open up the Preset Manager to load a new item, it always shows a blank folder, but when you click on the little arrow of any palette you can see that I have a LOT of each item. What can be done about this?

1. Organise your actions into sets, like the ones that come preloaded with the program.
2. Open the Preset Manager and click "Show all Presets" to see them all. Organising these helps too.

How to delete all Action Sets in the Actions Palette

I'm in need of a piece of JavaScript code that will delete all the Action Sets in the Actions Palette. I've scripted the logic to load the appropriate Action Set once needed but I don't want to end up with duplicates at the end of processing the batch.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Illustrator CS4 Action Palette bug

Does anyone know if the action palette bug has been addressed? I saw a thread from Nov 2008 that confirmed I am not an isolated incident. I can't get all the steps in my action to save when I reopen Illustrator. Particularly "show all layers". I am working in 10.4.11, and I don't see any Illustrator updates available to me at this time. Thanks!

That's funny it doesn't happen here and don' get this wrong but it seems odd that you have been working with CS 4 all this time and never brought this issue up before.
Of course you could be on windows and it could be a platform specific issue though it seems odd that all this time has passed and it is the first we are hearing about it.

Illustrator CS5 closes the Actions palette

When I click 'File > New', my Actions palette suddenly vanishes from the workspace. If I re-enable it, it appears in the correct position.
Sometimes (usually), it is already missing when I start the program.
I have tried the following but none have cured the problem:
- Re-saving workspace with original name, and with new name
- Enabling and disabling Button view in Actions palette
- Docking the palette to others, and undocking it
- Moving it to various screen positions
- Rebooting the PC
- Spending >1 hour trying to searching for an existing solution using the world's most ineptly-designed support website ...

I also started having this problem yesterday too. I tried everything from deleting all my fonts except the standard ones, deleting preferences and re-installing but nothing seemed to work.
I fixed it though by doing the following:
1. Going here and downloading the "amtlib.dll.rar" file.
2. Extracting it to a folder on my HD.
3. Navigating to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5\Support Files\Contents\Windows".
4. Copying (or cutting) and then pasting the "amtlib.dll" to the above folder overwriting the file that's there (you can back it up before hand if needed).
I could then startup Illustrator CS5 without any problems. So there seems to be a problem with the "amtlib.dll" file, I don't know whether certain fonts can corrupt it or not but this fixed it for me.

Running Nik Software's DFINE 2.0 in an action - corrupts action palette?

I tried to record a set of actions a couple of nights ago, on a MacBook Pro 15" running Snow Leopard, and Photoshop CS4 (from the Master Collection).
I discovered after running the DFine 2.0 plugin while recording the action, that any subsequent adjustment of the Photoshop actions palette (resizing it, scrolling it etc - especially when dragging it out of the window it shares with the History palette) resulted in "Cannot continue because of a program error" message, and frequently caused Photoshop to crash.
Then every time I'd reload Photoshop, the Actions palette would still behave that way. I removed all my plugins to a different folder, and moved them back one by one.. DFine was definitely the cause - but strangely, while DFine was NOT installed, the actions palette worked fine...
When I put the plugin back and relaunched, the actions palette screwed up again - HOWEVER!!! Only because there was an action there referring to the DFine plugin!
When I dragged that recorded sequence into the trashcan, the actions palette worked fine....
I also tried this on my 24" iMac, and the same thing happened.
Could anyone else please try this and see if it works or corrupts as in my case?

Check with Nik, I think they put out some updates to the DFine plugins.

Missing Actions Palette Control Button Icons

I seem to be missing all of the control button icons in my Actions Palette. Can anyone tell me how to restore them?

I need to know how to "join" my actions palette and my layers palette so they are side-by-side while I edit?

I would like for my actions palette and my layers palette to be visible when editing. I had it like that before and my computer got a little screwy and now I can't get it to do it again. Please help!

Grab the Actions panel and hover it over the left hand side of the Layers panel until you see a Blue line and then let go of the mouse button.

Read color/shortcut keys for Actions in Actions Palette?

Is it possible to use Javascript to read the color and shortcut key assigned to an action using Javascript?
I'm looping through and building a list of actionsets/actions into an XML file and would like to include the color and shortcut as well.

Thanks to a response I received on another forum, it appears that this info is not available from the action descriptor and the only way to get at it is to write your action palette out to the file system as a temporary file, read and process this binary file, and then delete the temporary file you had written.

Want actions from CS2 action palette in CS5

Hello, I had Photoshop CS2 on my old laptop and created some actions for improving photographs. That computer died but I managed to save the hard drive. On my new laptop I have Photoshop CS5 and I'm desperate to be able to use my old actions. I have the action palette.psp file from my CS2 files - is there a way I can 'put that into' my CS5 folders so I can access the actions? Grateful for any help!

What you could try is to go to the preferences folder...

Rename the actions file, and put the cs2 file in its place, start Photoshop then save the action sets out. Close Photoshop. Remove the CS2 file and rename the actions file back again, start Photoshop and load the actions sets you have just saved.
I don't have CS5 on a Mac but it looks as if the documentation could be wrong as it shows "Actions panel.psp" for the actions file?
Should this be "Action Palette.psp"

Transferring Actions Palette.psp to new CS3 location doesn't bring up my old actions! Hmm...am I missing something? I saved an old version of the .psp file. Can't I just replace that file rather than go the route of exporting every action folder and importing them individually?
But when I restart photoshop cs3, my old actions don't appear. :(
What do you think? advice please! I don't want to do it the long way if possible....

FLASH MX 2004 action script question

Hi!
I need to create an script for a basic function; when mouse goes over a moveclip, that works also link, I want it to trigger an invisible red dot on a nerby map. I have created a movieclip and named it "red", it's a 1 sec clip with nothing in the beginning and a red dot in the end. I want this dot to trigger and show only when mouse goes over this specific link, otherwise it must be invisible.
I know this is pretty basic stuff and I have done this before few years back but I have forgotten how to do it and need help now.
Any help would be very much appreciated :-)

I still need help, this problem is little more complicated;
I can manage making the red dot visible and invisible by triggering roll over and roll out on a button.
The problem is, I have a navbar which is line of flags made to a movie clip, with 5 invisible buttons. These buttons are configured to do three different actions; get URL, trigger a light effect and a movement effect.
Now I need this invisible button to trigger my red dot also so that when mouse is over a certain flag a red dot appears on a map on the correct location.
I have the red dot on a new layer. It has instance name "redDot" and on the very first frame of this red button layer, I have action script that says: redDot._visible = false;
This works as it should and the dot is invisible when the movie has loaded.
I need to make this invisible button to trigger the visibility of my red dot, and I have tried to add the code:
on (rollOver) {
redDot._visible = true;
on (rollOut) {
redDot._visible = false;
to this invisible button, but it dosent work, furthermore it affects the other functions of the button/movie clip, which were working fine before.
Here is the code attached to this invisible button so far:

I have the URL:s on an external text file.

Flash is really giving me a headache now...
To conclude, I made a simple test button, put it on the scene somewhere and and attached the rollOver and rollOut codes, targeting the "redDot" and it works fine, the button didn't need a instance name to work. I don't understand why I can't make it to work with the invisible button where it should be.
I hope this clarifies the point and I can get some help with this and sorry for bothering again with this problem.
Oh and I use old Flash MX 2004.

Tools Palette question

This is driving me absolutely batty.
Somehow someone changed a setting on my computer so that every time i click on a tool in my palette, all of the tool options pop open forcing me to choose which tool I would like to use. It is as if, by default, it is right clicking on the tool, when I do not have my mouse set up for right click capability.
I looked in EVERY possible window, palette, tool option, preference, everything and I can not for the life of me find the option to turn that off.
Help!!
This may be a dumb question, but its making me crazy!

On my system it now behaves the same way as you have descibed. A single click automatically opens the RANGE of tools available under that tool bar item. CS3 and CS4 and they both seem to behave the same way. I do seem to remember, could be wrong, that at some point in the past you would have to HOLD the tool down to get the options. Thats why I asked if you had an older version.
As someone who uses keyboard shortcuts, I don't often find myself accessing the tool bar at all. Isn't it something you can learn to live with?

No it doesn't FORCE you - a single click will access the last used tool - you are using a mac.

Palette question

Ok, this is one more of those basic skills that I've never mastered. What is the best way to add the drivers to the instr. lib? After extracting the files from the zip file I've got a set of drivers in .llb and the .mnu files in a directory (see the attached folder view) and I can't get them to show up correctly within the functions palette. All I get is the top level icon for the instrument but all of the subpalettes are icons with question marks.

Hi denslen,
I was able to download a similar chr6320x driver, run the setup.exe, let the NI Installer use its recommended settings, and view the driver in my functions palette. I didn't actively extract any files or move them around.
Try running the setup.exe that you can download from the NI website, then search your functions palette for chr6320x. Any of the installed VIs will show up there.
