Actions Shortcut in AI CS5

Recently recorded a simple action (Copy, Paste in Place) and assigned the Keyboard Shortcut to F15. The action will execute correctly if accessed through the Actions panel or in Button Mode, but will not execute from the keyboard shortcut. Tried assigning different function keys, but none responded, or overrode the Adobe shortcut to perform the default commands (ex. F4 went to Dashboard). Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

That sounds like a conflict of some sort with a plugin or other software running on all the computers. Mac or PC? Any non-Adobe plugins, including a font auto-activation plugin from a font manager?

  • Copy actions from CS4 to CS5

Can't find out how to copy my own default actions from CS4 to CS5. I have found something called "imported" actions in CS4 and copied those - which worked - but I have other default actions that I cannot find out to copy from CS4 to CS5.

Where is the location of those folders on my system?
    Many thanks!
If you have them in the standard location for CSX they will be in:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CSX/Presets/Actions/
    Where 'X' is 4 or 5.

  • Can`t find keyboard shortcuts in EN_GB cs5 folder for AI.

normally the keyboard shortcuts save to this folder EN_GB for CS5 AI.. as a file named KBSC KYS file.
I cant locate it now either in the cs5 or cs4 directory which used to have the same...
    any ideas where its gone?

I think I found it, its no longer titled KBSC but the icon reads "prefs" and grey text  "adobe premiere keys" for some reason..
there are the "illustrator defaults", and my custom shortcuts titled "marks",
I dont know why the icon title has changed though, for CS4, perhaps this happened when I installed the upgrade for CS5, can`t think of any other reason.
as its the same in the CS5 en_GB folder.
When I pasted the CS4 "marks" into the CS5 en_GB folder, they worked as my shortcuts in Ai CS5...

  • CS5 action shortcut keys not working in Lion

I've just reinstalled CS5 on my new mac which is running Lion - all seems to be running smoothly so far, but when I use the F keys which have assigned actions, it defaults to the OS defined action for that key (eg: F1 adjusts the monitor brightness etc).
My old mac used a generic keyboard as my Mac one died a painful soft-drink related death, so this may not be specific to Lion - is there a way for Photoshop to override the base action for that key? I've tried combinations of modifier keys with the function key with no success. Any ideas?

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?
Have you checked if you can deactivate the conflicting shortcuts under Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts?

  • Why can't I do batch actions from CS4 or CS5 Bridge now when I could before?

Something has changed in my functions for doing batch actions in Bridge.  In CS5 Bridge I try to do a simple batch action of saving a DNG file as a jpg and closing the file.  When I attempt this I get a message saying 'The command "Save" is currently not available.
I try to do the same thing in CS4 Bridge.  I go to the Tools menu and look for Photoshop in the drop down menu but it's not there.  This is how I do batch action processing with my Windows version of CS4 Bridge.  I am confused about what has changed when I was able to do batch actions routinely in CS4 and CS5 Bridge on my Mac.

Something has changed in my functions for doing batch actions in Bridge.  In CS5 Bridge I try to do a simple batch action of saving a DNG file as a jpg and closing the file.  When I attempt this I get a message saying 'The command "Save" is currently not available.
Batch using tools menu from Bridge to reach Photoshop should work as expected in both CS4 and CS5. If not then there is something wrong on either your system or install.
Go to Bridge CS5 preference and look for the section Start Up Scripts and see if there is still a Start Up Script for Photoshop CS5 present and with a checkmark in front for activation. If not try first to restart bridge holding down option key and choose refresh preferences. This should retrieve the original Start Up scripts again.
If your command save as is not available check the action and see what the save path for that acton is. If it is a copied action from an other system changes are that it still contains the save path for the old drive and if the script can't find it it provides a warning message.
Also check if the drive you save to has both read and write permission.

  • Certain action shortcut keys not working

In my Captivate 5.5 training simulation, I want users to click Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. I've tried inserting a transparent click box and setting the shortcut to Ctrl+C. On success is set to go to the next slide.
When I preview the training and I press Ctrl+C on my keyboard, nothing happens. I don't get the fail message and the slide doesn't advance.
If I set the shortcut to something else, like Ctrl+L, it works fine. I'm guessing that certain Windows keyboard combinations are not allowed as shortcuts? Is there a way around this?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Like you said, it is not working when you keep a shortcut, which is same as a Windwos Default shortcut for certain action, even the Cp User Guide does not recommend to have a conflicting Shortcut --
"Note:  If your Adobe Captivate project is displayed in a browser, set keyboard shortcuts that do not conflict with common browser shortcuts. For example, F1 is frequently used as a keyboard shortc"ut to display Help. The Control, Alt, and Shift keys map to the Control, Option, and Shift keys on Macintosh® computers, respectively."
When such a conflict arises in project shortcut to System Shortcut, the System shortcut takes precendence and it overrides the project shortcut.

  • PS Action Shortcut Keys Stopped Working

I have saved my actions with each having a shortcut key to tasks I do everyday. For no apparent reason I started PS and when I click on the shortcut keys (ex. shift+F3) instead of the assigned task it starts an unrelated task like new layer menu pops up or it desaturates the image. However when I go to the actions menu and select the task and push play it works fine. Only the shortcut keys seem to be mixed up. Does anyone know what has happened or what I can do to fix this problem?

Its gone back to the default F key shortcuts Gina.
The cause can be one of two things. Either you have deleted or diasabled your Actions (its possible to disable them by unchecking them in the Actions panel) - OR your Operating system has been set in some way to override the F keys. Unfortunately I'm not a windows user, but a similar thing happens on Mac. There will be a control panel somewhere on your machne that allows you to assign these shortcuts.

  • How Do I Locate An Action I Created In CS5?

    Hello Folks,
How do I locate and action that I created in CS5, so I can load it into CS6?
I am running CS5 and 6 using Mac OSX Snow Leopard
I crearted two actions, but am now not sure where they reside, to load them into CS6
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Jim

    Thanks for the helpful reply.
Yes, I do still have CS5 installed an intact. I have launched it and I can find my actions within the action pane, and run them on a loaded image.
When I click on either of my two actions, they attempt to run, without and image loaded and run with an image loaded. When I click on the fly out menu
to try and save either of them, "save action" is greyed out.
I've looked in every Adobe/Photoshop folder I can think of but can't seem to find either of them. I've also tried to use a spotlight search to locate them, but no luck.

  • Having problems finding and importing actions I recorded in CS5 :(

Hi. I've recently upgraded from CS5 to CC but I'm now having problems finding and importing actions that I previously had recorded in CS5. Where do I need to look to locate these actions, as they are still in CS5 when I open it.

You export them using the flyout menu in the top right corner of the actions palette. Conversely, you load them the same way in the new version.

  • Importing / Transferring Keyboard Shortcuts into Photoshop CS5

Hello, i am testing out Photoshop 5 and it looks good so far, yet some obstacles are left to solve. For example i wonder how to get the keyboard shortcuts from my old Photoshop (the .kys file) into the PS5? There is no import. I would even manually transfer, but opening the file in a texteditor just shows weird stuff (there was a guy who manually transfered his indesign shortcuts in such a way, but since he used a normal text editor i guess these files are of a different structure)
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2881861#2881861
if anyone knows how to transfer them or has an idea how to manually workaround, i am happy for hints.
    thanks
    Sofian

It depends on which windows system you have, but for vista and windows 7, probably the best
place to put the kys file is:
    C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Keyboard Shortcuts
    Added:
    Windows XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Keyboard Shortcuts

  • BUG: Changing text colours within a text block: Keyboard shortcuts problem (Photoshop CS5)

In earlier versions of Photoshop, I could double click a Paragraph Text to edit it, then select individual words and change their colours using the Ctrl+Backspace and Alt-Backspace keyboard shortcuts (to change them to either Background or Foreground colours).
In PhotoShop CS5, Alt+Backspace is OK, but Ctrl-Backspace deletes the highlighted word! Not good. I believe this is a bug, can it be fixed to revert to the old behaviour?
    (Photoshop CS5 Extended x64 on Windows 7 x64)

I fully understand what you're saying, and while I'm all for compatibility, user interface change cannot be accomplished without, well, change.
Imagine, for example, that thousands of people could have reported that they couldn't delete the prior word with Ctrl-Backspace while using the T tool in Photoshop, while they could with every other application on their systems.  Imagine that none of the users like you reported that they were happy with things the way they already are.
Perhaps the best approach in a situation like this would have been for Adobe to add a configuration option somewhere to allow individual users to make the choice.  But EVEN THEN there's a push from the Marketing types to simplify the number of choices given to customers, probably because doing so reduces support costs (imagine, for example, someone brainlessly setting it to your flavor of Ctrl-Backspace, then calling support to complain that they can't delete the prior word as they have always been able to do).  There are a lot of requests on this forum that read like "I must have changed a setting somewhere, but I'll be darned if I can find it."
Microsoft and Adobe have both moved lately in this direction (reducing choices and configurability), reportedly to "reduce the cognitive load" on presumably ever less intelligent users, with ill effects in many cases.  Unfortunately, "you can have it any way you like so long as it's our way" seems to be the way of the future.

  • Using Action Shortcut (w/ CB) - Mac v. Windows (cmd v. ctrl)

Hi all - I have, what I think, is an unusual question for you all.
I'm building a Captivate module (using 5.5 for MacOS) that requires users to practice using shortcut keys for a software application. So, for example, they need to practice the keystrokes for refreshing a page (i.e. Ctrl-R). The software application is Windows based, so they will be using the Ctrl key often.
I built a test of the module. I used a click box as the conduit to users pressing the correct key strokes. In the "Action" property, I have as the "Shortcut" - "Control-R." I achieved this by pressing "Control" and "R" on my Mac keyboard (obviously). The module runs great on my mac - I get to the screen on the Flash file, press Control-R and the desired action is achieved. However, it does NOT work on Windows. Despite the correct keystroke ("Ctrl-R"), there is no action.
Out of curiosity, I fired up an old version of Captivate 3 for Windows and built the same module. Although I had to select the keystrokes from menus, it works on Windows AND Mac by pressing "Control-R."
Is there a setting on my Mac version of Captivate to make the keystrokes translate to Windows? Is there any way to get this to work?
    Thanks!
    Andy

    Try using the Apple key.
For some reason Apple uses it like Control - i.e. copy/paste is
controlC on the PC, but applc on Mac.

  • How do you move brushes/actions from CS4 to CS5?

Hi. I've been using Photoshop CS4 Extended and have a ton of actions, styles, brushes, and other custom settings that I'd like to now import into CS5 Extended. Is there a tool for doing this? If not, how do you manually accomplish this task? Thanks.

It depends which folder you assigned them to,but as an example: Program Files > Adobe > Photoshop CS4 > Presets > Brushes
Select your custom brush sets using the Shift arrow keys or Ctrl-click with your mouse to select the sets that are scattered.
    Ctrl-C to copy
Open the CS5 presets > Brushes folder from there and use Ctrl - v to paste the sets into that folder.
The best suggestion I have heard so far is to keep a seperate Presets folder for custom stuff in the Adobe folder and simply load them from the Brushes, Actions and Styles menu.
That way you can get at them no matter the version of CS.
