Actiontec GT784WNV modem Help please

I was told by a Verizon rep that Verizon does not offer support for the Actiontec GT784WNV modem however I see there are some questions about it here so I thought I would ask.
I just got a new PC. I am trying to set up my  Actiontec GT784WNV modem to it. I used the modem on my other PC and it worked fine. At the time when I purchased the modem I did call tech support and while I was told Verizon does not "support" the modem the man was nice and helped me anyway. I believe he said I did not connect using a PPPoe which is why I could not get it to work the first time. Well when I try that option now, nothing happens.
I reset the modem after trying the DHCP and went with the PPPoe to see what would happen. I was asked for a username and password which I used admin and password. That did not connect either.
When checking the status it states Broadband is connected, however under ISP it just hangs on "connecting" I also checked out a page on Verizon website about  Actiontec GT784WNV and the troubleshooting was not really helpful.
Anyone have any advice for me?
Thanks in advance

Note: The Actiontec GT784WNV security screens and prompts may vary slightly from these directions depending on when you purchased your gateway and the firmware loaded on it.
To reset your Actiontec GT784WNV to factory default settings:
http://www.verizon.com/cs/groups/public/documents/adacct/selfinstallhsi02_2013.pdf
Open your Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field.
Enter your user name and password and click Continue. Your default user name is admin if you didn't change it when you configured your network.
From the top navigation, select Utilities.
From the Modem Utilities navigation, select Restore Defaults. From this screen you can restore the Gateway’s wireless settings, firewall settings or all settings to their factory default state.
Press the appropriate button to restore your settings. During this process, the Gateway’s Power Light flashes and the Gateway is disabled until after rebooting.Your Actiontec GT784WNV is now using the default settings for the network configuration.
If you cannot access the gateway’s internal interface, perform the following steps:
Using a paperclip, press in and hold the Reset button for 30 seconds.
After 30 seconds, release the Reset button and turn the power off to the D-Link 2750-B.
Leave the power off for 20 seconds.
Turn your gateway back on.
Reboot your computer.

I just received a Actiontec GT784WNV  modem/routher, but there was no User Manual enclosed, even though the Verizon leaflet says ""If you require additional information, please see the user manual." I phoned Verizon and the girl said "What do you need a manual for?" I phoned Actiontec and they said they do not have manuals (physical or online) and to call Verizon. I am going around in circles. Can anyone tell me where to get a manual for this Actiontec GT784WNVI
I am a octogenarian and this is all so confusing to me and Verizon has been of no help to me, other than switching me from person to person; not one of them doing anything to help me.
Where can I get a manual (physical or online?
    Can anyone please help me?

  • Actiontec GT784WNV modem ISSUE

I was unable to remotely access my devices connected to my Actiontec GT784WNV home network. I sent someone to my home and upon accessing 192.168.1.1  In the "status tab" connection status showed that the Broadband was "connected", however the ISP was "connecting" and continuously refreshing to try to get a connection. Hitting disconnect and connect buttons did not help. He also rebooted the gateway. The last resort was to go to "Quick Set Up" and enter my username and password. This fixed the problem and enabled me to go on-line and remotely access my devices. Upon contacting Verizon cust. support, they told me that there was a problem at the Verizon central office that caused my modem to go into default mode. When this happens, I can not access my devices remotely and can not get on the internet at home location. The only way to fix is for me to be at home and go to "Quick Set Up", and and enter my username and password as described above.  When I am far away from home, it is physically impossible for me to locally log onto the modem to do "quick Set Up" and fix the issue. Also, since there is no internet connection, I can not perform this function remotely. I have to pay someone to physically come to my house and perform the "quick set up" so that I can again access my remote devices. Is there anything I can do or add that will prevent or easily solve this issue when it happens again? I do not want to have to continuously pay someone to come to my house everytime this issue occurs. Too bad that Verizon tech support is unable to fix this issue for me when I call them with this issue when I am away from home. They say that someone MUST be at home to locally access the modem. Thank you.

In the past, there have been some known issues with the older ActionTec gateways losing their configuration. For a start, try this: *note, I am not very familiarized with the ActionTec gateways*
Configure the modem the way you like it, and save the configuration if possible via the Advanced page if such an option exists. Now, reboot the modem. If your options do not save, the modem isn't writing data back to the NVRAM. If you were able to save a copy of your configuration file to the computer, try to load it back into the modem. Once loaded back, reboot the modem once more and see if it stores your configuration.
    Alternatively, try this:
Press the reset button on the back of the modem down for 30 seconds, and then swith it off for 30 seconds while holding the reset button down. From there, power the unit on for 30 seconds, and then release the reset button. Allow the modem to reboot, and then log into the modems' Web UI to perform the quick setup again. See if after rebooting the modem once again using the power switch, you are able to maintain your configuration.
    Alternatively:
Make sure you are shutting off the Walled Garden! http://192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect is the URL to the Walled Garden. It should be disabled. The login username and password is the same used to access the Web UI of the modem itself.
If the modem isn't retaining your information, ask Verizon for a replacement device. They have to fix the firmware bug causing that to occur.

  • My 3000H will no longer connect to the internet via my cable modem - help please.

I have 3 computers and a media server on a Linksys router with a Comcast cable modem. Everything AOK. 3 weeks ago my Lenovo 3000H shut down and rebooted for no reason. Then I began getting popups while I was on the internet saying that I needed to click on a button to make a dial-up connection. I would hit X or Cancel to make it go away. It happend more frequently and other related popups started, but I could close them and continue normally. Last weekend It happened again but I lost my connection to the internet and it would not reconnect. Now I get a big error message "Connecting through Wan Miniport(PPPOE)... Error 815: The broadband netowrk connection could not be established on your computer because the remote server is not responding. This could be caused by and invalid value for the "Service Name" field for this connection. Please contact your ISP and inquire about the correct value for this field and update it in the Connection Properties..
I called Comcast. They don't have a clue what Error 815 is. I have changed every cable, rebooted the modem, router and all computers countless times, and reset the modem per Comcast. I have taken the router out and connected directly into the Lenovo. I have gone through every screen related to broadband connection to no avail although, being a beginner, I see screens that I have no clue what they do.I have a couple of friends and a Comcast fellow who tried to walk me through the steps they thought would restore my connectio. No luck.
Can anyone walk me through the necessary steps to get me back to ground zero and then through the steps to reestablish my broadband connection?
    Help Please?

In Safari, press on the Bookmarks icon and select History.  Then press on Clear History at the top of that menu, and see it there is any improvement.
If not, try unplugging your WiFi router for a few seconds.  Then reset the iPad's network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will need to reconnect the iPad to WiFi.

  • ACTIONTEC GT784WNV Question - Please help!!

I am replacing my Actiontec GT704WG with an Actiontec GT784WNV model that I ordered online from Verizon. It just arrived yesterday, and has no antennas in the back. I'm really confused because when this modem is shown online, it has two antennas in the back. However, the pictures I find online of the Verizon version of this modem seem to show it without the antennas in the back. Did they forget to pack them in the box, or is it correct that it arrived without the two antennas?
I'm also annoyed because the modem arrived with no installation paperwork, and in a plain brown box.....for all I know they could've refurbished someone elses and sent me used equiptment. When I called customer service (after a useless 45 min phone call) they had no idea about how I return it, or whether or not it arrived without the two antennas. Please help!! Thanks!

I just got mine yesterday and like you it came in a cardboard box with one sheet of paper telling you where to get the password and SSID.  I've managed, with no help on their part to get all my computers, 2 wired and 3 wireless to run, but for the life of me I can not get my Brother 5250 Laser Print set up to the "Gateway" as the network printer. The printer was set up on my old Westell Modem as the network printer and worked find, but the modem was dropping the connection, so it was time for a new.
Not having a manual is a pain.  I've searched both Verizon and Actiontec and can't find a manual anywhere.  Would also like to know what the button is on the front panel that glows red when it boots up, has WPS printed on it and doesn't appear to do anything when you press it.
Anybody have suggestions on how I can get my printer back to working as a network printer before this  new "Gateway" came into my life?
The WPS button doesn't do anything.  That function was disabled as a security measure.
To set up your printer you need to go to the printer's manual. The router manual won't be of any help with that. Verizon doesn't provide much help with 3rd party equipment.  The variety is to large for their customer support to keep up with.
If you don't have your printer's manual, check the manufacturer's website.  Or try a Bing search.  If you can't find it, you can try posting back here with the model number.  Maybe someone with that same printer will be able to help.

  • Tech Help. Want to Unbridge Actiontec Fios Modem, Reset Does Not Help

I successfully bridged my Actiontec Fios Modem in order to use a third party modem as I was looking for faster speeds. {And did get them with the Wireless N modem]. However, did not realize I would lose remote dvr search functionality. So, all I want to do is get the settings back to how they were previously - no third party modem, no bridge, just good old slow Verizon hardware. I have numerous times went into the Verizon modem settings and restored settings to default. I have also held the reset button on the back of the modem for 30 seconds for a hard reset. This does not work. I still have an orange light indicating no internet connectivity. I did call Tech support, but of course their systems are down and the guy was no help whatsoever to walk me through it manually. So, in the meantime only way for me to connect to internet is to redo bridge settinigs and use third party modem.
    Any help would be great.

If you've done a hard reset on the Actiontec router and still have an orange internet light, one of the following is true:
A bad connection bewtween the ONT and the router
    A bad ONT
    A bad router.
BTW, the Actiontec is a ROUTER, not a modem.  FIOS does not use modems.

  • NTL/Virgin Cable Modem trouble... Need help please...

    Hello,
I am a new NTL user, meaning I got the confirmation letter from NTL and then when they came to install it, the entire package turned into Virgin. They promised me a 10mb line which they say I have and a week into my TV and broadband cable modem experience, they dropped the Sky Channels. I wasn't too happy about that. But I wouldn't mind so much if only my internet was as stable as they said it would be.
I am new to Cable Modems and I have always had ADSL, which I think is much more stable compared to my cable modem.
I have a supposed 10MB line and a little blue box with a strange thick wire going into it and an ethernet cable going out of it into my new Airport Extreme (Flat one).
My problem is this, aside from the fact that I constantly have drop outs and sometimes complete loss of signal, the Airport is in a fixed place no more than 3 meters from my MacMini Core Duo.
I also don't think I have a steady 10MB line, cause when I try to download files from Apple or their trailers, it is VERY slow. I came from a 4MB ADSL and it was REALY FAST! So why is Cable slower?
Am I doing something wrong here? The entire set up from Virgin was more or less non existent and they didn't help much on the phone.
How can I have a more stable line and get at least 4 MBs out of the 10MBs they claim I have....
It jumps high during a download and a few seconds later it drops to the point it simply isn't worth it...
I would appreciate any info you could give.

    Hi.
I've been a Telewest - now also Virgin Media customer for many years, and have been using their 10mb connection for over a year now ( are you aware that in May they're upping it to 20mb)
The speed of the connection is quite erratic, but for me has improved since xmas.
Here is a site that will check your speed, if you still have problems, call them up, and even though they're not very Mac friendly, insist that they come round and check it.
    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
By the way, I called them when they lost Sky, and threatened to leave - they gave me a 20 quid/month discount - give it a go!

  • I cannot retrieve the password for the wifi connection on my imac and so cannot access the internet with my ipad at home.  I have a cable modem. Help please!

I cannot retrieve the password for the wifi connection on my imac and so cannot access the internet with my ipad at home.  I have a cable modem. Help please!

If you mean that you cannot remember the password for your WiFi network this will work for you - or it should work if you are the administrator on the Mac.
You will need to be logged in as the administrator on your Mac and you must know the password - Open Keychain Access on your Mac in the utilities folder, click on Passwords. Find the Airport Network Password listed on the right. Double click on it. Click on show password in the the window that pops up. Enter your administrator password when prompted and click allow.
If Keychain is locked - you must enter the administrator password there as well to unlock it and access the password.
If you have set the Mac up for Internet Sharing for the iPad to share the Mac's connection, just create a new network On the Mac with Internet sharing and a new password.

  • Web Camera Behind Actiontec GT784WNV

I have a Panasonic web cam set up behind an Actiontec GT784WNV DSL modem/router and I need to set it up for DDNS access from the outside.  I have set it to run on port 8000 and I've tried both Port Forwarding and DMZ and can't see it across the Internet.  The camera is set up at 192.168.1.3:8000 and I can browse to it from the inside.  But if I try from the outside, to [currentdynamicaddress]:8000 is is unable to be found.  What's the trick to setting up port forwarding or DMZ so I can hit this device inside the firewall from the outside?  Thanks in advance!

Are you using Internet Explorer by chance to reach the camera from the outside? If you are, add http:// or https:// to the beginning of the URL. Other browsers shouldn't have this problem unless you have to specify HTTPS. Also, if you're simply entering in your IP Address to access the cameras, I would recommend considering a Dynamic DNS address to point to your connection. That should help in the event that your IP address changes.
If you believe the port is not being forwarded properly, use a tool such as http://canyouseeme.org/ to see if the port is reachable from a server on the Internet. You should either get an Open response, a "Refused response" meaning a FIrewall or device is actively refusing the connection, or "Timed out" meaning the port is blocked and is being dropped, or the port forwarding is incorrect.
Start off with the port forwarding rule you've created first. If you could share the rule with us and how it's written, that'd be great. Make sure the Gateway's Firewall isn't set to the maximum level, but is instead set to NAT Only or Level 1 "Low" security.

  • Actiontec GT784WNV wifi signal transmitter problems

I purchased a Actiontec GT784WNV from Amazon three months ago and set it upwith minimum effort.   It worked well on both ethernet and Wifi until recently. My main PC  was on wifi and started having problems while the second PCworked OK on ethernet.  I moved the modem to connect the main PC to ethernet with sucess.     The second PC (now on wifi) now has a very slow and erratic connection. The problem showed up using my main PC wifi card and two different USB wifi adapters on the second PC.     In addition, my TV wifi  netflix  wifi  alsostopped working.   These tests indicate to me modem transmitter problemseven though the wifi signal bars show a strong signal.        I have reset the router which helps for awhile.  It has good ventilation anddoes not appear to be overheating.  I have tried channel 6 and 11 on themodem without helping. Any ideas on how to confirm the Actiontec transmitter  is broken or how to fix?

There are couple of settings you can try and make the wi-fi work properly. Change the security type from WPA-WPA2  to just WPA. Change the wireless mode from b/g/n  to b&g If possible, change the frequency channel to fixed mode (say 7 or 11). I have tried this and all of my wireless devices work as a charm. Hope this works for you too!

  • HELP PLEASE !!! Can't get Linksys router to work.

    Okay, I am a new owner of an Alu-imac 2.4 ghz !!!!!!
Installed Leopard last night and wanted to get my internet set up and ……. IT DIDN'T WORK !!!!!!!!
The Diagnostic thing wouldn't recognize my internet.
    (Info for you):
    1) I have an Linksys wireless router that is right behind the computer. I have to have a router for my 360 and my PS3 across the room. So I had the cable internet modem hooked to the wireless router and then to the computer. (just like it was hooked up to my PC)
    2) I tried everything I could think of to get it to work. The diagnostic show that the Ethernet had a green light, but it would not let me online at all.
    3) So then I tried unplugging the modem and the router and still nothing. (It gets stuck on the page where it asks "do you use a cable modem, if so please restart it and then hit continue") And still nothing.
    4) So then I tried to just run the internet straight from the cable modem to the imac, and this didn't work either….. Then for some reason like a 1/2 later the network settings brought up the IP and everything and I had internet.
    5) *But I need my Linksys router to be used !!!!* Is there any advice any of you can give me !!! I can call Linksys if I need to when I get off work, but I thought maybe some of you could help me first. *I did have to call Linksys before I could get the router to work on my old PC as well*, so maybe it's something with them ????
HELP PLEASE !!!! I want to love my Imac so much.

fonz500, are you still having this issue or is this now a dead thread?

  • Cannot publish from iWeb to .Mac, Help please!

I am trying to publish to my site from here in Australia. I was able to publish in the country at the beggining of the trip, but can not now. I get the message "Publish Error - an error occurred while publishing file /Web/Site/iWeb/Site/Blog". I had updated two blog entries and changed the date on an entry. Since then in trying to fix the issue I deleted both of those entries. I have been through .mac support troubleshooting steps to ensure it is not a network error. I have been able to publish to a folder, but when I try to copy the Blog folder from that folder to my iDisk I get "The Finder cannont complete the operation because some data in "" could not be read or written (Error code -36)". Since then they asked that I try to publish from a trial .Mac account or from a new OS X user account on my machine. Both of those attempts failed as well, which they say indicates it's not a .mac account or OS X user set up issue. They asked that I put a copy of my domain file out in the public drive for them to look at, but when I try to do that it goes through and does the copying and then freezes at "Copying Domain.zip to Public, Copied 599.5MB of 599.5MB (Closing file...) - Please wait". Then I get the same error code -36 and am disconnected from iweb. Can anyone out there help please?
    Thanks!

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too! I have experienced both modem/network problems and was unable to publish in Tahiti and Cook Islands because of that and now these problems which have nothing to do with network it seems - so yours may or may not be network related. I was able to cheat and copied my "Site" folder from my hard drive to my iDisk rather then publishing. I can't remember if you've tried this or not (read a lot of strings today) but you can publish to a folder and then copy that folder to your iDisk at /Web/Sites/iWeb/Site as "Site" after first renaming the one that is out there now. Let me know if you have any questions on how to do it. It sounds like you are traveling like we are and anxious to communicate with friends and family back home. When you are bored, our site is web.mac.com/baganworldtour.
At least we now have our first update out there in two weeks. But it took almost two hours to copy the folder and this won't work forever. Hopefully we, whether by the discussion room or .mac support next week, will be able to fix the problem for real.
    Thanks. Good Luck. Merry Christmas

  • No internet connection(help please)

    I have the model---> Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router
As I connect the ISPs dsl cable to router the internet light doesn't turn on! Also the phone became "dead"! when i put out the ISPs dsl cable the phone is well again!
The problem isn't the phone but why the router does not connect to the internet!
    please help me!
    thanx in advance

Please state the make and model of your modem.
I have tried to access web data on your OTE system.  Since I don't speak Greek, I have only been able to find some basic information.  Do you know what kind of "Internet Connection Type" you have from OTE?  Common types include:  Automatic Configuration - DHCP, PPPoE, Static IP, PPTP, L2TP.  Also, do you know if OTE requires a "Host name" or "Domain name"?
Since you have already tried to setup the router a few times, you should reset the router to factory defaults, before trying to get it to work.   Please use the following procedure:
    1)  Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2)  Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3)  Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4)  Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5)  Power down the router.
    6)  Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7)  Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8)  Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9)  Try to ping the router.  To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.  A black DOS box will appear.  Enter the following:  "ping 192.168.1.1"  (no quotes), and hit the Enter key.  You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out."   If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10)  Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1.  This will take you to your router's login page.  Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin"  (with no quotes).   This will take you to your router setup page.  Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen).  Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, I would suggest that you simply try using the router the way it is, at its factory defaults.  To do this, power down the entire system and unplug all devices from the wall.  Connect an ethernet cable from your modem to the "Internet" port on your WRT54GL.  Power up the modem and allow it to fully boot (1-5 minutes).  Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).  Power up your computer.  Test your system.  Can you get an Internet connection?  If not, power cycle the entire system, then try to get an Internet connection again.
If it still fails, then power down your system, and disconnect the modem from the router.  Be sure the modem is disconnected from the router before you proceed. Then try the Easylink Advisor (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt.  In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware.  After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state the results of steps 9 and 10.  Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know what happens.
