Actiontec M1424WR WiFi very slow

Hello everyone,
I have the above router. Has anyone had issues with WiFi speeds being very slow? Nothing has changed over the past weeks, but my Ipod and Iphone are at a standstill. I had a range extender and even with it off, there doesn't seem to be any data at all. The wired network seems exactly the same.  Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jeff K 13057

There are lots of versions of that Actiontec router.  Version A,B,C,D,E are only capable of wireless G type (theorettic 54 MbPS ) connection toping out typically at 20-25 Mbps.  Worse if not close to the router.  The ealier version A is a real dog that doesn't support WPA2.  Memory problems with the size of tables were slowly increased across the version as well.  These problems were really noticable if you tried to connect multiple devices at the same time.
Version F supports so called Draft N.  And is a bit faster I think up to 65MbpS and probaly able to support 35Mbps.
Version G and I are wireless N.  Supporting, I think 300 Mbps,  Not sure what the real world speed is but perhaps 130-150.
Note if you are seeing recent problems it probably is due to interference.  I.e. some neighbors devices trying to use the same channel.  Try changing the channel your router is using.

  • Time Capsule 3T WiFi very slow, just 0.4Mbs.

When connected directly to the the internet cable the speed is over 2.5Mbs, but only 0.4Mbs through Time Machine 3T (802.11ac).
I tried to turn everithing off and turn them on one-by-one, from the internet radio receiver to the Time Machine, then MacAir 13 Mid 2013.
    How can I fix it?
The AirPort Utility does not offer any resource to do it.
It had been running just fine since installed on October/2013 and I noticed that it was getting slower in the last 5 weeks and now it is slow all the time.
I can do the basic on MacAir but AppleTv just do not allow me to watch a movie on Netflix (I can browse through all windows but the movie won't start).
    Thanks for an answer,

Just need to confirm a few things.. 2.5Mbps is very slow.. if you use b for bits as we try to do.. if you mean Bytes, then that is ok. We try and use B for Bytes.
from the internet radio receiver to the Time Machine, then MacAir 13 Mid 2013.
So you are getting internet via wireless.. not from standard cable or adsl modem?
What is the modem and is it a router as well??
How is the TC connected to the modem router and in what mode??
If you use any client on the TC wired, can you test it??
If you use wireless have you made sure to use all names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Mavericks now uses SMB networking by default so it can help..
More importantly the ipv6 is set correctly to Link-Local.

  • Wifi very slow after iOS 6.1 upgrade

Per iOS 6.1 I had no problems with my phones wifi.  After the upgrade however the phone will connect to it but data transmission is extremely slow.  Speed tests show that my connection speed on wifi is under 2Mb as where before the upgrade it was around 30.  Mail will not download now either without turning off wifi and going to lte.  Have also noticed that lte will randomly turn off and go to 4g while I am using it.  The phone usually then goes to no signal and then back to full.

    My
    iPhone 4s
on ios 6.1 is so slow ..... I am getting irritated first time with apple product mainly after step up on ios 6. Everything works great in ios 5.1.1 .....
Please fix this I cant download movies from itunes It takes so much time.....

  • Wifi very slow on Helix after fresh install of 8.1, do I need the Intel Wireless LAN "drivers"?

I'm getting a few hundred kbps on downloads from MSFT's dev site, which typically are 1MB/sec for me on this Helix. Just did a fresh install, but am using stock Windows 8.1 wifi drivers. Do I need to install something specifically for Helix, like the Intel files?

If there is a dedicated driver from the manufacturer for your hardware for your current OS, you should always choose that over the stock Windows drivers.
Best thing for your Helix would be to run the Lenovo System Update to get your machine up to specs in the driver department.
I always stick to the Lenovo issued drivers for my ThinkPads and stay far, far away from any Windows Update drivers. They are absolutely a no-no for me.

  • Streaming video over WiFi very slow

Hi, I started to dealing this unpleasant issue since I guess I updated to last firmware on my Apple TV. Now when I want to stream video from my MacBook or iPad over wifi, the picture is not fluent at all. It is cut (not sure about this word). When I connect my MacBook through ethernet cable, it works just fine. Apple TV is connected by cable to my network.
Anyway I was able to stream practically any movie in any quality and it worked. No I cannot stream nothing at all! :/
Does somebody experience the same issue?

If you have an Apple Store nearby, book an appointment with the Genius Bar and get them to check it over.
If you don't have an Apple Store nearby, take it back to the retailer and explain what's happening and see what they have to say.
Or, you could call Apple Tech Support give them the details of the problem and see if they can suggest a fix.
Before doing any of the above, you might want to try restoring the iPad to default settings and then set it up again (back up your iPad prior to this to preserve apps and date etc) to see if this rectifies the issue.
    Hope you get it sorted

  • Clamshell wifi very slow with LION?

Hey guys... I just upgraded to Lion and my wifi signal drops from 13 Mbps to about .5 Mbps when I'm in clamshell mode. I didn't have this problem in snow leopard- it ran full speed. Is this a reported problem? I couldn't seem to find any threads.
    Thanks!

Go into your computer and see what the Wireless Network Settings such as Security Type (WPA, WPA2, WEP etc), Data Encryption (AES, PSK, TKIP etc) and what mode is the router using 802.11 d, g or n. PlayBook prefers WPA or WPA2, AES Encryption, Mode g. It does not support Mode n with TKIP. Also try a reboot of your router.
On your PB tap the wifi icon, tap connect manually, enter the same Security type setting as in the router, select dual band, check auto obtain IP Address, check Allow Inter Access Point Handover and enter the network key. Reboot the PB .Try these suggestings and report back.

  • I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? Thanks

I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.

  • TS1398 since i have updated the latest software i am facing problem using wifi which is very very slow most of the time or wont connect at all was that update supposed to be for better or worse

is apple product going down hill it seems their updates are creating a lot of problem now the wifi connection is really ******* me off it doesnt connect or even if it does its very very slow i used to love using iphone but i think its time to move on to something else they have taken everyone for granted

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Mark.
I've never come across your first problem on any of the Apple notebooks I currently own (or have owned in the past). Then again, perhaps I'm not looking close enough.
Have you compared it with any other 12" PowerBook? If not, perhaps you might be able to try that at a local store with units on display.
Otherwise you might want to give AppleCare a call. Alternatively, if you have an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider near you (I don't know where you are located) then you can take it in to be checked.
As for your second problem (uneven illumination), that has been known to afflict other notebooks. My own 15" PB has had its screen replaced on two occasions because of this. Depending on the severity, you might be able to get it replaced. Mine became so bad that the screen was effectively unusable.
To be honest, here in the UK, I would actually try for a replacement PowerBook - if the problems were severe enough and also because your PB is still very new. However the consumer laws in your country (wherever that may be) might be very different to mine.

  • Lumia 920 Facebook connection very slow over WiFi ...

Since the Portico update the connection to Facebook both in the People and Me hub as well as in the Facebook app is very slow over WiFi, whilst still good over 4G/LTE (with WiFi off). The connection to the Nokia account also appears to have a similar problem. All other accounts and apps have good speed over both cellular and WiFi connections.
    Any ideas anybody?
PS: FYI, a bit more info about the history and context: When I noticed the problem the first time after the update, I tried to solve it by deleting and re-adding my Facebook account on the phone. Unfortunately, that made me lose my Me hub tile, so I decided to do a full reset. That again unfortunately got stuck on the togg wheels, so I restored the phone using Nokia Care Suite with the latest firmware, and restored my accounts, apps and settings from scratch. Everythings seems to work fine now, except the above mentioned Facebook and Nokia account connectivity problem.

Did you somehow solve this problem?
I have the same issue here with my Lumia 920.
However I have already found out that it only applies to my home Wifi. All other Wifi networks i was connecting to did work flawlesly.
I need to note that all other devices on my home network are using facebook without a glitch. Only Lumia has some problems with it.

  • Add a WiFi modem to the Actiontec M1424WR

We have an Actiontec M1424WR Rev e modem/router.
We have the  Verizon Double Play bundle, Internet and Phone only, no TV, and with the iMac connected to the Actiontec via Ethernet cable, our speeds are excellent.  E.g., On a Saturday morhing, the iMac gets d/l speeds of 58Mbpa, u/l speeds of 34Mbps
The internet signal comes into the Actiontec via Coax cable.
The Actiontec is located on the third floor of a three-floor townhouse.
The WiFi signal to the AppleTV three floors away can be _dismal_ at prime time in the evenings.  A recent Ookla speedtest returned 1.47 d/l, 3.58 u/l, 66 ping.
I have seen posts indicating that the Actiontec M1424WR gets poor ratings for WiFi signal strength and have seen posts claiming that you can turn off the WiFi on the Actiontec and add a WiFi capable modem with a good reputation for wireless strength.  Specifically, I see a lot of recommendations for ASUS routers.
Can any of you network gurus confirm this?
Would this be a good plan for acheiving better WiFi signals at the AppleTV?
Is there another way which does not involve pulling ethernet cable throughout the house?
    Many thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I doubt any WiFi device will work well through 3 floors of a building.
Might you already have coax running to the TV on the first floor?  If so, a fairly simple solution would be a MoCA adapter, such as the Actiontec ECB 2200.

  • Very slow/stalling wifi connection on iMac

I recently purchased the iMac 21.5" Core i3 3.06GHz- I was quite exited about my new computer as I've been thinking about switching to Mac for a couple of months. I was amazed with the software compared to Windows, but so far I'm very dissapointed with the wifi connection.
I connect to a router which is two floors down in the same apartment building (we have an agreement to share the connection with my neighbors)- D-link router using WEP- authentication. On the same spot where I placed my iMac, I regularly get 2-3 out of 5 bars and speeds of approx. 250 kb/s with my corporate Windows7 lenovo PC. However, the iMac wifi connection is very slow- I'm not sure of the exact speed, as the connection is very unstable- sometimes webpages load quickly, but sometimes a simple web-page takes forever. The key issue is downloading files- when downloading a file, the speed starts at 250- 300 kb/s at first, then quickly drops to approx. 50 kb/s, a then usually stalls and the download is rarely finished.
I have tried browsing apple support for help, and found advice to adjust MTU in AirPort settings, and I experimented with various DNS, but niether of these seems to help, my web-browsing and page loading times seem to have improved, but downloading files is still almost impossible. The problem si very frustrating, since I get reliable speed and connection on my lenovo PC on the very same spot as the iMac.
Based on reading internet discussions on this topic this seems to be a rather wide-spread problem with the iMac, and I'm wondering if anyone here has a similar experience and any suggestions for a solution? Can it be an issue with the aluminium body which has poorer reception, and I simply need to move my desk to different location in the apartment?
    Thanks, I appreciate all suggestions!
