Actiontech Gen2 - better interface?

I do a lot of port forwarding through my current Actiontech router. I must say the interface is really difficult to use and manage. For example, there is no way to edit an existing rule - you must delete and re-add. Also, it inexplicably combines some rules by IP, but not always all. I am running the latest firmware. I have enjoyed much more intuitive and feature rich interfaces with other routers before this - but had to install this one when FIOS was installed. Is the Gen2 router any different? Or must I install a switch after the router and do it there?

I have a Actiontech MI424-WR Rev D router - provided by Verizon.
Firmware is 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.14.4.
Judging by my symptoms it looks like they did arbitrarily remove this option because I know I had it in the past.  However, I don't think I would go as far as to go backwards in the firmware for fear of introducing another issue.  While this is annoying, it is not the end of the world.
In general this port forwarding interface is very poor.  I posted a message directly with Actiontech support - perhaps they will address it in a future version.  Or I could call Verizon and see if I can get a new router?  However, it appears that I might get the same router back?

  • Is there a better interface available for Oracle 10g Express?

    Dear Experts
    I just installed Oracle 10g Express for a trial to develop and Accounting ERP. Until now i have been using MS SQL Server 7.0 & 2000 on VB but now we are considering JAVA and want to get the feel of Oracle. My questions are as follows:
    1. Is there a better inteface available other than the Internet Explorer?
    2. Would a better interface be avaliable in other version of Oracle 10g?
    3. Does Oracle have interface to create relationships graphically?
    4. Is there documentation available for 10g in one bundle like the Sybase Adaptive server anywhere or MS Books online?
    5. This is really an excellent forum and i have seen some of the answers and they are great.
    Thanks a lot i hope i will be successfully be able to develop an application using Java (desktop version using swing)and Oracle 10g

    If you want a somewhat more powerful tool (albeit more complicated) check out TOra:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/tora/
    As an Oracle DBA I've used this at client's sites when I can't pay for PL/SQL Developer to be installed, and it has quite a few useful things built into it. I think that it's going to see a boom in popularity now that Oracle came out with XE.

  • How to solve an error 42408 in Itunes (i want to keep an older version 10 because better interface )

    I did not like versions of ITunes after the 10.
    I try to reinstall a version 10 after the 11.
    ITunes 10 is now working well but i cannot anymore use Genius, and have a report of error 42408 that block the setup of Genius.
    Do you have a solution for this (other than upgrading Itunes, obviously !).
    Thanks for your support.

    OK, my starting point is that LR can happily contain 400000+ photos, and it's a mistake to create a 1 star plus catalogue as you suggest. Instead, I'd recommend you create a master catalogue of all your photos, which you can then query however you want - 2 star, or a certain keyword, or with "xyz" in the title etc.
    If you are intent on going that way, you could try a slight change from what you've done so far. Instead of trying to import an entire catalogue and then delete no-star pictures, take the 2014 and 2012 catalogues and select only the 1 star photos. Then do an Export as Catalog for these items, and import the 2014-1star and 2012-1star into your new catalogue. That may get you past the problem images which I suspect are the problem.
    If that doesn't work, or if you follow my initial advice, you're going to need to identify the image where the failure occurs. You may have a corrupt image file, and replacing it from your backup may be sufficient to resolve the problem. Alternatively, it may be a corrupt record in the catalogue, and in this case it may be sufficient to remove the image from the catalogue and import it again. You might try selecting everything in the 2014 catalogue and seeing if you can do an Export as Catalog, creating a clean 2014, and deleting 2014's previews folder might also get rid of a potential problem. Something else is to try the Export as Catalog for images 1-40000, then a second Export as Catalog for images 40002-50k.
    So a few things you'll need to try, rather than a magic bullet, and a recommendation to change the underlying direction.

  • FlashDVD.swf to FLA for better interface (full screen...)

    Does anyone know how to edit the FLA for FlashDVD.swf so i can add features like full screen and stuff? Posably decompiling?

    They don't bother me, but I know how those little things can be sometimes... and respect your opinion that they bother you.  I don't think anyone would be adversely affected if they were toned down a touch or two (i.e. made darker, but still visible).
    To take it a step further, I actually may see an opportunity for the developers to add some value to these markers (regardless of whether or not they make them less obtrusive or not):  position them according to the center-lines of the image being viewed (rather than the center-lines of the monitor, as they are currently).  In their current implementation, they provide useful information (i.e. a quick and easy way to see the center of each axis) only if no panels are visible, or if both the left- and the right-panels are visible and also identical in size.  If one side panel is taken away (as in the screen-shot you posted above), the top and bottom arrows no longer provide useful information, as the center of the image is now shifted towards the side without a visible panel.
    It's a small detail, but perhaps and easy one to refine...

  • Which Audio Interface for Me?

    Okay, I have decided to make the switch from my iMic and a mixer to an audio interface that has two inputs so I can record two channels at once. I may be using external pre's at times so it must have line-in's. Also, right now I am using a Rev. A Mac Mini, but soon I will be upgrading to a Mac Intel Book to be named later. I will mainly use this to record acoustic guitar, vocals, bass, and ocassionally drums (using a mixer to sub mix and then into the audio interface). I will do everything for my own home enjoyment so my standards are real high. Here are the possibilities I have come up with from the Sweetwater catalog in my price range ($150 - $300):
    1.)Lexicon Alpha (this is a new model) or Lambda - both are USB
    2.)Tapco Link.USB
    3.)Makie Spike (USB)
    4.)Alesis io I 14 (what is this thing USB or Firewire?)
    5.)M-Audio Firewire 410
    6.)Presonus Firebox
    It doesn't matter to me if it is USB or Firewire, I guess my biggest requirement is the ability to use the line-in for external pre's. Thanks for any help!

    I guess you guys mean that I could pan channel one
    left and two right and then into the iMic?
    That's correct
    There are two jacks on the iMic I see,
    No, one of those is the input, one of those is the output (you could plug headphoines into that one)
    but I guess I don't
    understand how I can have those on two seperate
    channels in garageband.
    That's the easy part. Create a New Basic Track and click the "I"nfo button, then set the input popUp menu to "Channel 1 (Mono)". Create a second New Basic Track and set it's Input popUp menu to "Channel 2 (mono)". Make sure the little red Record Enable buttons are on for both track and hit record. You'll be recording 2 tracks.
    Also, I think one thing for
    me as that my mixer didn't have in/outs on each
    channel so I can use external pre's.
    Okay, like I said, I would never dissuade someone from getting a better interface, and the iMic is nowhere near the Top Of The Line...
    I use PreSonus' FirePod and for the year+ that I've had it I've been thrilled with it. I have no person al experience with the FireBox, but PreSonus has an excellent reputation so if it has the features you want, I'd expect it to be a great product.
    Finally, I guess I should say that I'm using
    Garageband now, but had thought about Logic Express
    in the future. Thanks for the help
    Any of the interfaces you listed should work fine with whatever software you want to use (the compatibility question is not really with the software, but rather the hardware. If the interface works on your Mac then it will work with GB and Logic).
    Hope that helps --HangTime [Will Compute for Food] B-|>

  • Is there a way to add event details using a calendar object vs. those dumb field entry boxes?

    I have switched from PC to Mac over a year and a half ago, and have been plagued with the "dumb" date entry boxes in iCal and now Reminders on the mac. For one, they don't show you the DAY OF WEEK for an event, it assumes you are parked on that day, but of course reality sets in and causes constant date changes for events. Picking a date in the future would be much more helpful if Apple followed some usability norms in iCal. For instance, if you are booking a flight online, those helpful little calendar objects pop up, and further, they are smart about "end dates and times" for events, knowing it can't be earlier than the start date. Apple iCal unfortunately always thinks you are creating an ALL DAY event, and when you change the start time, it creates the end time for the next day. Not very smart. Or is it me that is not very smart for constantly hawking every little data entry field for correctness. Why, oh why dear lord has Apple not given some usability attention to iCal on the mac??? At least match the interface of the iPhone with a nice little slot machine rolling control.
    Is there an add in?
    Is there hope that Apple will ever fix its lagging Mail and iCal apps on the Mac?
    Please advise. Or just offer a kind word of consolation if there is no hope for a better interface.

    In the future, Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum.
    The code you posted is of little use since it uses custom classes so we can't see the behaviour of your code.
    In general if you add a component to a Container at run time then you just use
    container.revalidate()
    This will invoke the LayoutManager and repaint the components in the container based on the new layout.

  • Taking Java a little lower

    This post is not a help request.
    It's just a sort of poll or curiousity question.
    Would you agree to let java (by means of new api and jvm support of them, obviously) have lower level features?
    Java VM works on every system, through native code, or better interfacing to a specific code of a specific Operating System.
    That's why every os needs a dedicated vm.
    Well, if that low level access is reached for operations like, drawing on the screen, playing sounds, io streams, networking, hidden memory management, and so on, what's the problem in giving java the possibility to do things like shutting down a system or formatting a unit (real formatting).
    I know the latter is possible, in terms of file system manipulation.
    But as for things like the first one? Every OS has a call which lets you shut it down.
    Runtime.exec() is not cross-platform and it's not even always considered pure java.
    JNI is not java (the part regarding native code).
    What's the matter in having a System.shutdown()?
    Or File.format(File root)?
    Obviously such calls should be protected by a SecurityManager, as are other features in Java.
    Java has a great API and you hardly feel the necessity for a closer contact with the hardware, but sometimes you do.
    It'd get to be the most powerful, all-purposes, ultimate language.
    Luckily, thanks to JNI and exec, you can find a way around most of those necessities, but it's not like the java I'd really like.
    The 2 examples I've given are just the first things I could think of, but I'm sure many people would like to have other characteristics implemented.
    Don't get me wrong.
    I think Java is already the best all-purpose language around, and I really like it.
    I like it so much I'd like I could do everything just using Java, no need for other external resources.
    I just hope Sun will consider possibilities like those I mentioned.
    So if you want to post your considerations, I'd really appreciate them, but please let's not start a flame out of it ^__^
    Nobody criticized JAVA!!!

    You seriously exepect the OS to let an application
    tell it when to shut down? What happnes if you're
    running this on some critical server thats running a
    load of other apps?
    I think you need to think your argument through a bit
    more!I don't see any problem with that. Windows, Linux, MacOS,... native applications can easily shut the system down and nothing bad has ever happened...
    As I said, that feature could be protected by security managing, meaning you need prehemptive user authorization.
    Many native applications don't even let you authorize it.
    Don't tell me you've never had a download manager or a cd-burner tool which had a check box like this : "Shut system down when operation is finished"...
    So as you can see... it is accomplished regularily on every application. Java could easily be no exception.
    I agrees to the idea but not the solution. instead I want to suggest > to have another package or development kit like j2me, j2ee for low
    level hardware programming. Yes, why not. The problem though is not whether the APIs for that are standard or an expansion. The important thing should be the jvm accepting low level commands.
    On SUN/OS (or Linux etc.) for example there is the shutdown command -
    but it is available only with appropriate privileges, that is, for
    the super user.YES, EXACTLY! On windows also, and probably on MacOS.
    So, this is an example of low level feature available in every OS.
    No portability issues in this one!
    My guess why this does not yet exist is that either there are
    technical difficulties (which you will probably discover when you
    write the reference implementations), or there was no need for it yet
    (which is a hint that it should better be an extension library
    instead of part of the standard classes).I think the second one is the reason.
    Probably there wouldn't be many tech diff. Java has much tougher features already there.
    Very likely, Sun don't see specific low level access suitable in Java original conception.

  • Cross-Reference update

    It would be great to have a better interface for Cross-References.
    1. Don't reset the source everytime Insert is pressed.
    This is seriously annoying if you want to insert a bunch of references over and over. You have to reselect the Document and scroll down the list of paragraphs.
    2. Improve the Go to Source view.
    If the Cross-Reference is similar to other sources it is dificult to know which one you are selecting. Imagine a table with numbers in it and several cells have the same value. You can't easily figure out what you are referencing. Maybe a preview window would be better?

    Dear PV
    No you cannot update customer material info record via MASS.  It can either be uploaded via LSMW or BDC.

  • HT3819 video stream from amazon prime to my TV

    i want to video stream from amazon prime to my TV  via my ipad, mac book using my apple TV device..

    there is no reason to get rid of Apple devices, not when a Chromecast, Roku, or FireTV can be acquired so cheaply.
    This is a true statement, but this is a bad option in the long term since your content will be split between different sources, DRM rules, apps, access options, etc.  You are going to constantly be running into issues were you want to watch a show that is not available on the device (phone, tablet, etc) you are on.  I share "Disgusted_with_apple" frustrations in that Apple has not updated in three years now leaving Amazon FireTV and others with better interfaces and features but having my content locked into Apple's DRM.
    Apple was really first to market with a viable TV interface device, and has completely turned the market over to its competitors just by not showing up.  And now ATV can not play content, or provide features that ALL of the competitors have.   I recently bought an Amazon FireTV and love it.  The only advantage Apple has left is the iTunes Store still has more content, but that is not likely to last.

  • Why does my safari mobile on iPhone doesnt open Blogger?

    When I start using safari on my iPhone, and try to open my blog www.aasthaak.blogspot.com; it says that "server cannot connect" same happens with any blogger site. God knows why. I tried juggling every setting in the safari but nothing works!
    To my co incidence i was reading http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ and I came across the support community on apple.com
    Please help? anyone?
    also, Apple talks about being an open source on mobile devices (http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/) so why cannot safari the default browser (which cannot be changed) allows us to share stuff on gmail,facebook etc rather only email the link of this page.
    Opera Mini has a better interface like speed dial and **** and also saves Data upto 72% and helps you measure it, safari is just a fancy thing and mandatory since its default!
    Trick : Type "Tilt" on google serach bar of safari in your iphone - google search, what you see next is just exclusive.

    Works just fine for me. Sounds like you have a network connectivity problem.
    why cannot safari the default browser (which cannot be changed) allows us to share stuff on gmail,facebook etc rather only email the link of this page.
    This doesn't even make sense. Maybe you should try reposting in your native language.

  • Is it possible to independently manipulate a snapped handle of a corner anchor point?

    I stopped reading what's new since many versions and simply learn the new stuff when I need to or by discovery so, today I had to create various vector shapes and I got very annoyed that I can't pull a snapped handle of a corner point back and manipulate it without disturbing the handle on the other side. This has been always annoying problem for me and I'm just checking in case I have missed something.
    For example in a shape like this the highlighted corner anchor has one of its handles snapped to the point or in other words it is only with one handle. Is it possible to pull out an manipulate missing handle without disturbing the handle on the other side and any of the other handles?
    edit: just to let you know that I know the trick with deleting the segment and recreating it but that makes sense only when the neighboring point is corner too.

    I think a user nowadays would intuitively expect to just click and drag with a modifier/s key pressed to achieve that.
    In FreeHand, you can (yes, present tense; still works fine on current Windows) simply altDrag the middle of the straight segment that you want to bend. That one little very pratical feature gave rise to a whole drawing method which came to be called the "bendomatic" method (I think Olav Martin Kvern coined the phrase). Just click, click, click with the Pen, placing anchors at obvious locations, and bending the straight segments as you go. This was a very quick & intuitive way to teach beginners how to draw efficient paths with a minimum of anchors. But it is not just a beginner's trick. It lets you impart a stylistic consistency that is tedious to mimic in AI. Also very useful when working zoomed into segments the opposite anchor of which is off-screen.
    Xara Designer Pro (formerly named Xara Xtreme) mimics FH's "bendomatic" method. In fact, it's usually really the best way to draw paths efficiently in that program, because its Pen tool behavior is still otherwise sub-standard.
    Illustrator lets you alter the bend of a segment that already has its associated handles extended, which begs the question, "Who needs that, since the handles are already accessible?"
    But if you perform the exact same maneuver on a straight segment with retracted handles, you just move the straight segment and its two associated anchors. An example of the logical inconsistency that so permeates AI.
    FreeHand also provides other means by which to perform the alteration you depict. You can click a button to auto-extend the retracted handle without disturbing the adjacent segment. Or, you can just AltDrag the retracted handle out from the anchor with the selection pointer.
    These are just a couple of instances in which FH's basic path selection & manipulation interface is demonstrably more efficient and more elegant than AI's. It's just a better interface.

  • What's New in Audition 3.0?

    Don't have time now to get into how they help, but I would just like to say that there is MUCH improvment in Audition 3.0...I'd like to say this because I've heard lots of grumbling on other forums about 3.0 not being an upgrade at all over the previous versions 1.5 or 2.0, this is completely false, for me in particular the improvement in MT View (editing: collectively trimming, duplicate entire track and fading improvements) are indispensable.
    and most people don't even mention any improvement aside from spectral view (which is pretty big in itself, isn't it?) spot healing etc...which I haven't even used yet.
    I just want to say, they definetly made some good improvements, while they may not be overwhelming to some they are entirely useful in my situation and I think for most people they would come to see they are definite improvements if they used it long enough.

    ah guh suk yuh dutty sket mudda bumbohole battybway!
    It's a very helpful post because there is people who come to this forum when trying to decide to what recording software too purchase, and there's also people all over the internet who say that Audition is not better then Pro-Tools and more amateurish when in many regards it is more professional and has a better interface and GUI, especially if you're not doing too many tracks (less then 16 or perhaps more on a high end system). It's multi-track is easy and stays out of your way, has great automation, and some updated editing capabilities and has an excellent mbc that pro-tools does not have (maybe not excellent but very good)..and I believe pro-tools is a cpu hog doing certain things just like Audition is.
    So people come to this site and I'm going to tell them the truth that it has been added to nicely since Adobe bought it and hopefully if people buy it will have another update to make the multi-track even better.  It has a few bugs and downsides but so does pro-tools, I think the upsides are greater then pro-tools.
    The only downsides are the midi is a bit lacking compared to other programs which have been in the midi-game longer, and that it does use alot of cpu for certain efx, and the multi-track is better in some ways but not as advanced in others in terms of sequencing and arranging, it could improve in that area, loops and stretching loops to match each other then being able to record how you bring the loops in and out in a sequence like ableton but in it's own way then it would rule the world forever.

  • Firewire 400 and 800 problem ? Need confirmation

    OK, I have been running 2 external Lacie HD's over a USB hub into my MacBook Pro. A couple of weeks ago I decided that I needed more storage so purchased 2 Western Digital MyBook Pro's at 500GB.
    I got these two specifically because I knew they supported Firewire 800 and wanted to take advantage of the high speed connection.
    All is going well until yesterday.... Let me explain my set up. Firstly I am a DJ and use a Firewire Audiophile soundcard from M-Audio, this connects to the 400 port on my MacBook Pro, and the HD's connect to the 800... When I play music I get audio drop outs... I have looked through the forums and I am under the impression that both the 400 and 800 ports on my MacBook Pro run on the same connect, so is this the cause of the audio drop outs ?
    I connect the 2 HD's via USB and have no problems, am I right in thinking that I have wasted good money on getting 2 HD's that I'm not going to be able to use the 800 port with ? When I run the audio through the internal soundcard I get no drop outs !
    Also.... Just to annoy me even more I have a 20" cinema display so if I have use USB I decided to connect the two HD's to this and then to the MacBook Pro, now the problem here is when my MacBook Pro goes to sleep one of the HD's wakes up the MacBook Pro as it has been removed incorrectly ??? Do I now have a problem with one of my USB ports on the cinema screen also ????? I have put my iPod in the port and no problems ?
    Does anyone know how I can solve these problems without having to spend even more money ?
    And can someone confirm if the 400 and 800 ports are on the same connection, if so, whats the point ???
    Thanks
    - Neil

    neil,
    I wouldn't do that right away.. USB audio interfaces are usually at the more consumer end of the market, I don't think it's the best way to go just to solve your problem.
    did you read the part in my post about PCexpress cards that give you a totally new and independent FW800 bus? seriously, I think this is your best bet. these cards first came out when the original series of MBP didn't have FW800 on them (only 400) much to the consternation of video pros.. so 3rd party vendors made a card solution. as I said, they aren't expensive, I would have thought around or under $100 US. connect one of those to your MBP's express slot and your problem is solved. you'll have a powerful, dedicated FW channel just for those FW800 drives you bought. then, your m-audio interface will be fine. and even if you still want to get rid of it and get a better interface, you won't be forced to go to USB which generally means opting for a lower end of the market interface.
    also one other thing.. I don't know what your actual audio i/o needs are. but if you only ever work with stereo out and stereo in, ie, you never need more than 2 physical outputs and 2 physical inputs, then you have other options. the MBP (and in fact all macs) have optical digital audio built in. you can buy a 2in 2out digital to analog/analog to digital converter and connect it to the opticals. then, you'll never need to worry about FW or USB bandwidth ever again, nor will you ever need to think about drivers or compatibility or updates either.
    on my MBP I use logic pro. and on this system, I only ever need a stereo out to hear what I'm working on with good quality.. and when I record actual audio tracks, it's only ever one source at a time, like a mic input or an instrument. so I do not need an interface at all, I use the opticals and I love it. I bought a mindprint trio, not the USB one, but the one that uses optical i/o. it just connects to the same connectors on the MBP that you would connect headphones or a mic, but obviously uses the digital optical signal not analog audio. it sounds really very good. the trio itself is a very handy little box that conveniently lets you do a lot of things to work comfortable when recording. and I just use built-in sound, no drivers needed ever, which is very much a rare relief in the audio world, believe me.
    anyway, hope this helps. and seriously check out a card for FW800, in my opinion it's the best solution to your problem no matter which way you go.

  • Embedding video in iWeb

    Hi
    I want to add a video clip to my website but don't want to depend on other people's PCs having Quicktime installed for them to be able to play it.
    Can anyone recommend a way to do this?
    Thanks
    Mark

    You can convert it to flash or upload it to Vimeo or YouTube and add it via an HTML snippet. I think Vimeo gives a better interface: Adding YouTube & Vimeo Videos.
    Another way is to upload the movie file to the server and use flash code to play it. QT not required as I understand it. Create a js file named InsertMovie.js with the following code:
    function InsertSampleMovie()
    document.write('<object classid="clsid: 02BF25D5..." ...>\n');
    document.write('<param name="src" value="sample.mov" />\n');
    document.write('</object>\n');
    function InsertSampleMovie()
    document.write('<object classid="clsid: 02BF25D5..." ...>\n');
    document.write('<param name="src" value="sample.mov" />\n');
    document.write('</object>\n');
    Place that on the server where you can point to it in the following javascript code to be placed in an HTML snippet:
    <iframe height="480px" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="width:640px;border:none" src="http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Movies/PPMosaic.m4v"></iframe>
    <script src="URL TO InsertMovie.js FILE" language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script language=”JavaScript” type=”text/javascript”>URL TO MOVIE TO BE INSERTEDv();</script>
    Here's an example (#5 at the bottom of the page): Widget-QTMovie - If you have a PC to check it out let me know which of the 5 work.

  • How to arrange photos in Aperture slide shows to the beat of the  music?

    Is there anyone that knows how to arrange photos to the beat of the music in Aperture slide shows? I have tried to do a search for this topic, looked at "help" and still can get things to work properly. The "beat of music" command seems to be grayed out. Is there a bug in the software? Any help would be appreciated.

    I have been following this thread with great interest. I have tried to do this in Aperture as well. Jumping ahead just a bit to what might be David's next issue, once we figure out why the option is not available to him.
    For me once the music has been added the " Align slide to the beat" is available. However it doesn't seem to do anything.
    I have accomplished this in iMovie and Final Cut Express. In both of these programs you have to actually mark the beats for things to work. You mark the beats and the software sets the play duration to match. This is pretty easy in iMovie. I am hoping for a similar or better interface in Aperture 3. How is this accomplished in Aperture?
