Activate agp 8x at kt400
i have fx5200 with agp 8x. how to select the current agp in BIOS. my board is msi kt4v.thanks
It does it automatically at 8X. When you go into your BIOS, in the AGP settings, you will see the word AUTO grayed out and you can't select it. This is normal. It means your running in 8x, 128 MB mode.
You can run a Benchmarking program to prove it to yourself. 3Dmark2003 shows me at 8X enabled mode.
I had the FX 5200 Ultra for 2 days, before I trade it in for an ATI-9700 Pro.
Incidentally, have you had any problems starting up your PC with your 5200 card? When I had mine, every so often Windows would not boot after the POST. Even with the latest FX drivers. Very much bugged me, which is why I am usingthe 9700 Pro.
I hope you have better luck!

Satellite A200-1N1 - How to activate AGP?
Help me, please! I speak english very bad.
My notebook: Toshiba Satellite A200-1N1, OS: Vista
My problem: when I open program, message shows up: "*WARNING* +The game may not be consistant because AGP is deactivated. Please activate AGP for consistancy+"
My question: How can I activate AGP?
I'm looking forward your answer... Thank you.I've never heard of "activate AGP" before so as far as I'm concerned if your video drivers are working and you can watch stuff like DVDs etc then AGP is already activated.
It does sounds like the game you are trying to run isn't compatible with the onboard Intel GMA X3100 which isn't surprising considering Intel do not make powerful gaming cards.
However double check with the game's manufacturer maybe they have bug fixes or updates for your laptop.

Bios Request to set AGP 4x on KT400's
I own some MSI KT4VL (rev 1.0 w/ latest bios) and some Radeon 9700 Pro - Eventhough it is running fairly decent, I do experience lock-ups and this is annoying...I've posted the details in the Radeon 9700 and KT4 thread here in this forum...
From what I've read from other users experiencing lock-ups issues with the 9700 Pro and KT400 motherboards, a lot of them were able to set AGP 4x (instead of AGP 8x) as a workaround and get the 9700 to run nicely - With the MSI KT4V, the AGP mode cannot be changed from AGP 8x - Would it be possible to make a request and get a biod which would allow AGP mode to be changed so that we (the consumers) could get on and try out this workaround (this would ease the pain)...Bas, Maesus, can you guys inquire and make such a request?
Much appreciated,

There are KT400 motherboards out there where you can set the APG speed mode other than 8x - The Asus a7v8x for instance...
Here is a thread here where 'RavenShield1' set the AGP speed to 4x as a workaround to fix the lock-ups...I will add more examples and just wanted to point you to this one in the meantime...
The bios for the KT400 MSI mobo's according to the manual is supposed to let you set the AGP mode but whatever GPU I run, I got no way to change it...

[SOLVED] 'AGP is deactivated' - Wine, Gaming on Arch
Hello,
First off I would like to mention that I understand this may not be the proper forums to mention this, as it could just be wine related and should go to the wine forums, but then again everyone here has been so helpful and knowledge-full that I believe this issue might get resolved here as well.
I am trying to run Lineage2 under wine on Arch (x86_64), but when I launch the game I get the error:
"The game may not be consistant because AGP is deactivated. Please activate AGP for consistancy."
I have installed d3dx9 & d3dx10 using winetricks, I do have proper VGA drivers, and I am running on the following:
Linux 3.3.8-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT x86_64 GNU/Linux
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
NVIDIA Corporation GF106 [GeForce GTS 450]
Let me know if you require any additional information.
Thanks in advance
Last edited by CyberMaN (2012-06-29 22:46:43)Thanks for the fast reply. I just did a pacman -Syu yesterday, so I don't think much would change. However, after a reboot I noticed that whilst the message still appeared, the graphics weren't slow as they were before, so now it's just a message with no effect.
Perhaps this should be closed as the issue itself has been resolved, however I still do not understand the nature of the message. -
Hello all,
I've got a MS-6701 in my machine and would like to activate AGP which is deactivated. Can anybody help ? Find some more useful information gathered through AIDA32 system tool:
Motherboard:
CPU Typ Intel Pentium 4A, 2666 MHz (5 x 533)
Motherboard Name MSI MS-6701 (Medion OEM) (3 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DIMM, Audio, LAN)
Motherboard Chipsatz SiS 648
Arbeitsspeicher 768 MB (DDR SDRAM)
BIOS Typ Award (03/07/03)
Anschlüsse (COM und LPT) Kommunikationsanschluss (COM1)
Anschlüsse (COM und LPT) ECP-Druckeranschluss (LPT1)
Any help is appreciated !!
Cheers MWOERok. I've got a ATI RADEON 9700 in use.
And I've bought the system preinstalled.
The report which is printed out by AIDA32, which is a system information tool, sais that AGP is onboard, but deactivated. DXDIAG sais the same.
I've sent this information to the support team of EIDOS, which is a game manufacturer. They answered, that AGP is deactivated and this is a possible reason for my system crashes during games like TOMB Raider etc.
Does this information help you ?
Thanks for your help anyway.
Cheers Michael Wörner -
first excuse my very bad english
I bought a PM8M-V mothercard
I want to add an AGP card
I have to modify in the BIOS to desactivate integrated vga card and activate AGP card but I don't know what to do in the bios parameters
because I put agp card and the system reboot always conflict driver I suppose
Help me please ...It could be a driver problem. It could be something else.
Try entering SafeMode. Uninstall the driver for the onboard card. Uninstall the driver for the AGP card. Enter DeviceManager, and remove all - yes, all - graphics cards. Reboot.
Without installing the driver for the AGP card, do you still have reboots? -
How to disable AGP Fast Write with MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R ??
How can I disable AGP Fast Write with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R ? I can't find an option for this in the BIOS !
You wont usually find this option in most MB BIOSES , as the only Option that SOME BIOSES Have is the Option to enable, disable SBA (Side Band Addressing) for the AGP Bus....In order for you to Disable or Enable the FW, You Must have the Option in your Vidio Drivers Controll Panel.....If you have a NVIDIA Card, you Must go to http://www.guru3d.com And Download the program "NVHardpage" and then Open the Program and you wil have the Choice to Enable these options and they will then appear in your Vidio driver CP >> "Activate "Coolbitts" (this is NVIDIAS Overclocking Utility) Activate "Harware Options", and then Activate "AGP Options" and finally Activate "Performance Options"........If you have a ATI Card then you must Download one of thier "Tweeking Utilities".......I will Post the Direct "Link" for NVHardpage in a Minute, just say yes to the Lic. Agree. and download......Here>> http://download.guru3d.com/nvhardpage/ ...........Sean REILLY875

Hi , ill go straight to the point , and i plz beg if someone can help me with this. As now , i have an
Intel p4 of 1.6 ghz (Intel D845WN motherboard)
MSI Geforce 4 ti 4600 of 128 megs (THE CARD IS 4X)
512 MB of Ram (SDRAM pc133 -DIMM)
SB LIVE 5.1!
20 GB HD
Well the point is i want to "migrate" to an AMD based system cause they tell me they perform games very well and are cheaper , but im kinda new on AMD info , and i want to know which MSI motherboard (model) would be the right choice(in other words i should buy) for an ATHLON 2200+ and if that motherboard accepts my old SDRAM memory.
Specially i wanted to put enphasis on these 3 models of MSI motherboards which are the ones available on my country (i live on peru):
- MSI KT33 ULTRADDR AGP ATX
- MSI KT33 ULTRA ARU DDR AGP ATX
- MSI KT400 ULTRA-ARU DDR AGP ATX
Well , so which of them is the most appropiate cause the sellsmen told me that i have to buy a kt400 in order to get "the best" from my 2200+ , cause if i get the kt33 it ll only perforom at 1800+ , but i found it kinda tricky , so i wanted to check that here. Also which of this motherboards support my 4x card? , and what kind of memory does they support , does any of them support my old SDRAM?if so is it recomendable for my new processor?
Well THX IN ADVANCE AND SORRY FOR THE LONG POST!
BYE!With SDRAM you're seriously limited to the boards you can use. PC-133 memory for an Athlon XP 2200+ would probably be best suited in a K7T-Turbo 2. Neither the KT266, KT3 series, or KT4 series will support SDRAM, since all are now DDR based. If you wish to use your SDRAM (which will seriously compromise performance, although it will still probably be faster than the P4) I'd recommend the MSI K7T-Turbo 2. I've run it for almost a year now in my old system (before upgrading to DDR with a KT4 Ultra). If you're looking for more performance, I'd invest in either a KT3 or KT4 (not many advantages to KT4 at this point, but offers more expandability for the future), and invest in some good quality DDR memory (PC2100 [266mhz], PC2700 [333mhz] or PC3200 [400mhz]).
Note- While the K7T Turbo 2 doesn't natively support the 2200+, it will with the most recent bios update- Information on K7T Turbo 2 Bios -

KT400 & ATI 9x00 Radeons - AGP 3.0 no go
I know that MSI says they tested out the kt400 Ultra with the ATI radeon 9700 and had no problems, but I can tell you that I and several others that I have spoken with over at Rage3d cannot run the Via 4 in 1 drivers that have the new AGP 3.0 driver without hard locks in any d3d apps and games.
I have tested this out on both 3dmark 2001 and UT2003
with fast writes on and off and various other bios settings as well as various catalyst drivers. The current workaround is to run the WinXP agp driver. This is a less than perfect solution as I lose AGP texture acceleration as well as fast write ability, plus I doubt the AGP bus is running at full capability.
Is MSI aware of this issue? If so, can we expect a fix for it relatively soon. I really like my board and this is the only issue I have had with it.
Any input from MSI gurus would be appreciated!
Thank youfact of life its via write the 4 in 1 drivers and them that will provide a fix if one comes, same as nvidia do the chipset drivers for board im using
basically what you said is whats in faq thread above -
KT400 Ultra + Radeon9500pro + Via agp 3.0 = no go
I hope some MSI people can shed some light on why the latest via agp 3.0 driver causes d3d apps and games to hard lock my system. I've spoken to several people over at Rage3d with the same basic setup and the problem seems pretty universal. The current workaround is to run the WinXp agp driver.
This is however, a slightly less than ideal setup. Doing so means I am not using my AGP bus to full potential and it disables AGP texture acceleration in DirectX.
Does anyone know if MSI is aware of this issue? I know that it works with Nvidia drivers cause my buddy has that setup (MSI mobo + GF4).
Hope to get some comments from MSI gurus, I really like my board, and this is the only issue I have with it.
ThanxHi,
Please take a look at this thread regarding your motherboard. http://www.msi.com.tw/program/service/forum/index.php?threadid=6090&boardid=13&styleid=1 -

How to disable agp 3.0 on kt4v?
Hello,
I have a tk4v and a radeon 9500 128mb.
I try to use original ati drivers for linux but they cannot use agp 3.0 because via kt400 chipset is too "new" for them so they disable all 3d.
In the bios the agp chooser is disabled with radeon 9500 (with my old ati radeon ve it was enabled).
How can I reenable it?
Thanks you in advance!Ehm, try to enable AGP by loading AGPGART with the option "agp_try_unsupported=1" , (modprobe agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1 ) this should work
Alternatively try to recompile the linux kernel with this patch that enables the complete support to the AGP of KT400.
I don't know if this patch is official , but I use it and I haven't problems .

I looked at the FAQ for my board and it says that AGP 8x will be automatically set if available. In the bios, I cannot manually change the AGP Timing setting. When I ran dxdiag, I noticed the following:
Display Devices
Card name: RADEON 9700 PRO
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: RADEON 9700 AGP (0x4E44)
Does this indicate that AGP is running at 4x? I just want to ensure that 8x is, in fact, enabled. I can provide more info if necessary. Thanks.Hi:
Usually, KT400 MOBOs set the AGP to 8x automatically when the card supports it.
To know if your card is running at 8x, view your card settings (or properties).
Hope that helps.

Second agp-card on 6373 ?
Hallo,
Is it possible to activate a second agp-card while not disabling the on-board graphic-card ?
I´m using windows xp and i tried with a pci-card and it worked fine. But the pci-card is very slow so I tried using an agp-card, but now the on-board card is not working anymore...Nico4711,
There are several ways you could go.
nVidia, Matrox and ATI all have dual Vid AGP Cards. You could also go with a GeForce2 MX PCI or an ATI PCI in combination with the onboard video.
Take a look at the Video Card options at:
New Egg
They show details about the cards they sell and have pictures. Look at the AGP cards with dual heads (Matrox, Gainward, ASUS, and MSI) for ideas. Also look at the PCI cards to see what you could add in along with the onboard.
If you get a PCI GeForce2 MX card it will match nicely with the power of the onboard video and cost you in the $50.00 range.
After you look over the options, feel free to come back with any questions.
Take Care,
Richard
