Activate Bates Numbering in Document Processing menu?

I have a customer who needs to insert Bates Numbering into his documents for a coming audit, however when he goes to Advanced > Document Processing , as stated in http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/Professional/WS6
DE1E376-6A82-406c-A711-6C5E5207A1F2.w.html , he has no option for
Bates Numbering.
Is there an add-in to do so, or is there a way to enable this option in Acrobat 9?
Thanks!

No, he has Acrobat 9 Standard. Does this make a difference?

  • Unable to Bates number some documents. Using Adobe Acrobat 8.3.

I have Adobe Acrobat 8.3 and having been fighting with it to Bates numbering some documents which must be attached to an EMAIL tomorrow. I follow the instructions but after I finish I print one page in the set and NEVER has the BATES number. It did seem t require I put in a date besides the page number. I ONLY want a page number in each consecutive page of the document -- which I will combine into one document. One problem I had was a docuemnt I scanned to PDF said it oculd note Bates number it because it was protected. (I had deleted two pages which were blank.) I then printed the docuemtn without those two pages and scanned it and saved it & think that made it so it was NOT protected.
MAIN ISSUE-- cannot get the Bates numbering in the docmument as shown by unable to print a page that has the Bate number. H E L P

    Hello,
For 1st issue please follow the steps in given article:
Missing or Garbled Text Printing from IE9 to Adobe PDF Printer
    For 2nd issue:
You can create a signature appearance:
For example, you can include your scanned signature.
1  (Optional) Save the desired image on a page by itself, and convert the page to PDF.
2  Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Acrobat (Mac OS) > Preferences, and select Security.
3  Click New, and type a title.
4  (Optional) Select Imported Graphic, click File, and select the desired file.
    5  Specify options as desired.

  • Where's the Advanced|Document Processing|Batch Processing menu gone in Acrobat 11?

I have Acrobat 8.3.1 Professional at work, we're migrating to new machines (Win7) with Acrobat 11 Standard.
I've run into a problem:  In 11 Standard, where is the equivalent to the Advanced|Document Processing|Batch Processing menu command from Acrobat 8 Pro??
I have 2 sequences I need to be able to run for docment filing with Court.
Both sequences focus on a specific folder where I put (sometimes quite large) batches of documents converted from Word to PDF.
The 1st sequence goes through however many files are in the target folder.  For each file, it turns on the thumbnails, and turns off the menu bar.
I then do some tinkering en mass with them in Acrobat.
Then I run the 2nd sequence, which turns off the thumbnails, and turns the menu bar back on - this is a requirement from Court.
I just started tinkering with Acrobat 11 on my new machine, and the menus seem quite different!
Currently, as each sequence runs, I have to sit there clicking "OK" for each and every file, which is tedious at best!  I'd love to find something that'll give me the same functionality, with Acrobat doing all the grunt work!

Ugh.  I kinda thought that someone might say this.
Ironically, the same situation arose a couple years ago when we got the machines we're migrating *from* - The Powers That Be thought that 8 Standard would work, and I quickly educated them that "nope, yer gonna hafta spring for me a copy of Pro!"
So, it looks like "here we go again!"
    Thanks anyway!
Now I get to cause our purchasing folks NEW grief!  I've told them repeatedly that they should REALLY involve me in these purchases, so I can do the pre-purchase research, and save everyone a lot of bother.

  • Activate Base and Target Document menu's

    Hi all,
i am facing a problem, i have added a new form and know i want want to activate Base Document and Target Document menu's of system for my form but when i am doing
               <b>oForm.EnableMenu("5898",True)</b>
the system throws an exception that menu not found.
can any body please tell me that is there any way to enable these menu's for user forms
    Thanks..

    Hi Manu,
In B1, only when target and base documents arre present for a particular Sales/Purchase document, the menu target doc and base doc menus are enabled. otherwise it will not be enabled. Since this is disabled by the system, when you try to activate the system disabled menu it throws an error.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bates numbering error

I am having trouble bates stamping.  I am working with 4300 files.  When I select "replace file name with starting and ending bates number" option I get an error when I complete the process that says "The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open.  Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder".

I have the exact problem.  Oddly, if you print the document and rescan, it will take the bates numbers.  I think it has something to do with "newer" pdfs (i.e., created with a newer version of adobe).  However, I have had no luck fixing it.  Would love a suggestion!!
BTW - there is no page limit for numbering.  That is definitely not the problem.

  • Bates numbering

I am trying to add Bates numbering to a document which I have done hundreds of times. Now, I go through the process and get a message saying, "Bates numbering has been successfully applied" BUT there is nothing one the pages. I have tried almost 20 times as have others in my office......
I don't know what to do - we use this tool often.

    Hi,
Is this happening with all files?
You can try re-creating it by printing to Adobe PDF printer and then apply bates number.

  • Fixing acrobat pro XI crash when adding bates numbers

Upgraded from Pro 8 to Pro 11 and regretting it.  Now the program just won't work.  Process of adding bates numbers is simple.  Once I finally find where the "tool" is hidden, I add a document and then select add bates number.  There is "OK" button, but when I click that, program crashes.  Every time, every document regardless of size.

I just tried works for me.

  • Bates Numbering - Editing

Is there a way to edit a Bates number without removing it and then adding it again?
e.g., I want to change the name of the Bates from Oregon Health 000001 to OH 000001.
When I search for a Header/Footer to edit it says it's not found.

I added it through Advanced|Document Processing | Bates Numbering
No, I did not flatten it; I don't know how to do that!

  • What to do if Add Header/Footer tool and Bates Numbering tool both get error message? File too big?

    Hello,
I'm working with a 700 page / 103 Mo PDF that I need to put page numbers on. Both the Header/Footer tool and the Bates numbering tool result in error messages.
'An error occurred while retrieving the contents of the page.'
I suspect this is because the PDF was made by assembling 30 smaller PDFs via Preview and never down-sized during the process. I would imagine that would create a kind of clunky file. Or maybe it's simply the size that is overloading the software.
Does anyone have any advice on a fix or a workaround for this? I need to put page numbers on. I really want to put them on the composite PDF (going back to the 30 original PDFs would be a real headache for a lot of reasons.)
    Thanks!

    Hi Eliza,
Your suspicion is right. It might be possible that assembling different pdf's together created from different applications might be the issue.
Try printing the pdf to Adobe pdf printer and then try adding the page numbers and check.

  • Removal of Bates numbering in Adobe Acrobat Pro X

We can't remove the bates numberings in our PDF docs. When we try to we get a message that says
"Acrobat cannot find any Bates Number in this file. If you see Bates Number information, it was not added in Acrobat or by an Adobe PDFMaker, and cannot be detected as such"
Is there another way to remove this?
The docs we're working on are scanned.

Obviously, the previous answers are correct.  Since the Bates numbers are simply image content at this point, your options are limited.  In addition to the redaction tool, however, if the Bates numbering text is clean and positioned away from other content, you may be able to OCR the document, then use the Search and Redact function in Acrobat to remove the Bates numbers.
The only other option (assuming the placement of the Bates numbering is extremely consistent, such as those applied with Acrobat or a similar tool) would be the use of the custom redaction template feature in a 3rd party plug-in by Evermap called AutoRedact.  This software would allow you to create a custom template that could then be applied to each page, at which point the image content contained within the resulting rectangle annotation could be redacted.
Disclosure:  I have no affiliation of any kind with Evermap, but did address the use of several of their products in my book, "The PDF Litigation Guide."
    Hope that helps!

  • Bates Numbering/File Rename not working ver 9.1.3

I am trying to apply Bates numbering to a series of documents for document production in a litigation matter that I am handling.  I want to apply Bates numbers and also rename the documents with the Bates range of the documents included in each document.
The version of Acrobat on my Windows system is version 9.1.3.  In that version, the Bates numbering appears as it should in the right place on each page, but Acrobat will not rename the file names with the Bates range.  When I try the exact name thing with the same files on another computer in my office, running version 9.0, everything works fine, and the file names are approrpriately changed to the Bates range of the numbers within the file.
Something appears to have been changed in making version 9.1 that has messed up the ability of Acrobat to rename the files when applying Bates numbers.
Anyone have any information on this or a solution?

I have no idea, other than LR wasn't designed to handle anything but images that cameras rendered. I was surprised to learn LR even played the audio file.
Your question was clear; I read it badly.
AFAIK, you'll have to manually name the audio file, but since each one is a custom job, it shouldn't be too onerous.

  • Bates Numbering Error Message

I am trying to Bates number a large pdf file using Adobe Acrobat Professional 9, but I get the following error message:
"an error was encountered while retrieving page content."  Has anyone else encountered this message?  Is there a limit to the number of pages in a pdf that Adobe Professional 9 will number?

I have the exact problem.  Oddly, if you print the document and rescan, it will take the bates numbers.  I think it has something to do with "newer" pdfs (i.e., created with a newer version of adobe).  However, I have had no luck fixing it.  Would love a suggestion!!

  • How to shift Bates Numbering via PDFEdit methods?

I have to convert documents from A4 to Letter and vice versa.
To do this, I use the PDFEdit methods.
Per page, I enumerate all elements (PDPageAcquirePDEContent, PDEContentGetElem) and copy them to a new blank page of the required format (PDEContentAddElem). Then I resize and shift, applying matrix operations to the copied elements, as shown in code snippet Shared\ObjShiftSnip.cpp.
Unfortunately, if a document is Bates numbered, the Bates numbering is copied, but not correctly resized/shifted.
Resizing is done for kPDEText, kPDEPath, and kPDEImage objects, as in the snippet.
Does anybody know what type of object the Bates numbers are? Or is there any other type of container to use in in the recursive object enumeration?
    Thank you.

    > So the ObjShiftSnip code snippet has an error
No, it's just a sample snippet to demonstrate a possible technique. It's certainly not designed to cover all scenarios or be directly ported to a production environment. It's just a snippet.
    > I will also try to change the page size directly; I didn't know that this was possible.
Check out the PDPageGetBox/PDPageSetBox methods, as well as the documentation surrounding (at least) MediaBox and CropBox. There are other boxes as well and it would be useful to know them, but those are the major players.

  • Missing bate numbers when printing

I am using Acrobat 10 Pro.  When printing a large pdf (1000+ pages)  I start getting random missing portions of bate numbers after printing correctly for the first few hundred pages.  Windows 7 pc with 4 gig of memory.  If I start reprinting at the point where the bate numbers started going missing it prints them correctly for awhile before they again start going missing.  All the bate numbers are correct prior to printing?  Is there a setting I need to change or something?  Thanks.

Hmm, that's interesting. However, since in my case it only seems to be related to this one PDF, could it be that the PDF has an bad embedded copy of the font that my Mac is using to print with, but Windows isn't? I tried looking for any hints as to what fonts may have been used in the PDF and found references to "Arial" and "Times New Roman", both of which appear to be working fine if used in any of document. If you agree that this is probably just a bad embedded font, I will mark this as solved and move on. Thanks!
