Activate CS3 on a new MacBook Pro?

I have the discs for CS3, but the new MacBook Pro does not have a CD drive, so I copied the folder to an external hard drive and copied it onto the new MacBook. I have deactivted the program on the old computer.
When I try to open CS3 on the new MacBook, I get an error message that "Licensing for the product has stopped working"
How can I activate CS3 on the new MacBook>?

You can try a reinstall, but this time use  the downloadable CS3 installer Adobe provides here:

  • CS3 install on new MacBook Pro results in crashes

I have been using Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium for a couple of years with no problems.  During that time I also upgraded Photoshop to CS4 and purchased After Effects CS4 as well.  Yesterday I did a clean install on a new 17" MacBook Pro laptop.  I installed the Creative Suite 3 Design Premium software then downloaded the Photoshop CS4 and After Effects CS4 upgrades and installed those.  When I tried to launch Acrobat Professional 8 it crashes after a few seconds of being opened.  I tried reinstalling it but with the same result.  Now InDesign CS3 and Illustrator CS3 do the same thing.  I have searched for an answer to this and can't find one.  I've spent several hours installing and reinstalling software with the same result.  Trying to find a link to create a support ticket with Adobe proved useless so far.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?  Is there an Adobe Updater file that can be replaced in case it is corrupt or something?  Any help is most appreciated.
    Randy

I just tested on my Intel Core Duo 2 iMac running OS X 10.6.8.
I can run Acrobat 8 Professional 8.3.0 without crashing. I can also run the InDesign CS3 and Illustrator CS3.
So there's something in your system that's causing the crashes. Sorry I don't have more suggestions.

  • Installation fails on new Macbook Pro

I am trying to install CS3 on a new Macbook Pro Retina 13" with Mavericks. All of the CS3 apps except Photoshop installed correctly. Photoshop fails and when I try to launch it returns a message that it cannot be initialized because the disk is not available. I have tried reinstalling it and the installation fails. I tried launching the old copy from the previous computer's disk (now in USB enclosure) and I get the same error message. I tried copying it over to the new HD without success. Tried phone support and they won't help because it's an older version. CS3 is supposed to be compatible with Mavericks. Since the older copy and the new installation return the same message, I suspect (just a guess) some software issue, perhaps prefs or other files copied over from the old installation.
Can anyone help me figure out what the issue is, and how to go about installing PS successfully?
    Thanks!

Mike, that did the trick. I trashed the entire Photoshop CS3 Settings under the existing account, then created a new user and installed from there. Installation was successful. Then I went back to my existing account and it launched fine from there as well. A new Settings folder was created automatically and I'm good to go now. This was a huge relief - I was stressing. Also, I'm not sure if it's the performance of the new computer or if the prefs were the issue, but it is lightning fast now. It launches in a couple of seconds whereas on the older machine it was taking a couple of minutes. I really appreciate the help!

Hi! I've got CS3 Design Standard - the actual disks and Software License certificate. It was installed on my laptop which crashed and could therefore not be uninstalled. I have now installed it on my new MacBook Pro, but cannot get it registered with the serial number. Is it because it wasn't uninstalled on the previous laptop? What to do now?? Thx!

Maybe this can help someone else...  I simply had to properly uninstall CS3 and reinstall it again after that.  I think that sorted it!  I also remember having a similar issue with Macs at work a couple of years back.  Not sure whether the same applies to CS5/CS6.  Here's a link on how to properly uninstall CS3 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS.  I'm on OS X 10.9.2 but it worked just fine.  Remove Creative Suite 3 and CS3 products

  • Can't activate Photoshop on new MacBook Pro

    Program Version: Photoshop Elements 8.
I just purchased a new MacBook Pro today to replace my three year old MacBook. I sold my old MacBook after I backed it up onto an external hard disk via Time Machine. I have used migration assistant to import everything back onto my new Macintosh and Photoshop throws an error saying that I cannot activate Photoshop because the serial number has been activated more than once (It is also used on my iMac).
My old MacBook has been reformatted and is no longer with me so I cannot go back and deactivate that copy of Photoshop (I have eBay records and emails showing the selling and reformatting of my old Macintosh for proof). What should I do? Who do I talk to? I do not want to purchase another copy of Photoshop. I use Photoshop for graphics in Web Development in University so I need it back up and running!
    Thank You.

Yes, I realized that afterwards. To contact support for activation problems, go to the very bottom of the web page and click the Contact Adobe link and you'll see a place on the first tab for activation/deactivation. There are phone numbers in a drop down on the right side of the tab. Sorry, I can't link directly because I only get the US numbers here.

  • Installing Photoshop CS4 from original Disk onto my new Macbook Pro.  Serial number accepted but now asks for the serial number of a previous version e.g. CS3 which I no longer keep.  How do I resolve ?

Installing Photoshop CS4 from original Disk onto my new Macbook Pro.  Serial number accepted but now asks for the serial number of a previous version e.g. CS3 which I no longer keep.  How do I resolve ?

Tina Hadley did you migrate/transfer your applications over to your new Macintosh?  If so this could cause problems with your serial number being recognized.  Please run the available uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once this is done you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool.  Details on the use of the CC Cleaner Tool can be found at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.

  • New Macbook Pro CS2 won't go (activate)

I just got a new Macbook Pro and have been trying to activate my CS2 suite on it.  My understanding is that it is legit to have one copy on my desktop (which I do & it works fine) and one on a Laptop.  I have never had a laptop before so this is the first time it is being installed on one.  I did have it on a different desktop which died. (well the HD did)  I go through the internet activation, when that fails I go through the phone activation, then to customer support.  After numerous attempts, a customer support person said that I HAD to upgrade to CS4 in order to use this software on my Macbook Pro because they don't support CS2 anymore.  I'm all good with them wanting to upgrade me to the new software, but I paid a bundle for CS2 and it works fine for me.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's weird because I've been running the whole suite, every day, on my 24 inch Imac 3.06 with the latest OSx updates and haven't seen anything out of the ordinary other than an odd slowdown here or there, or a font issue which is generally the font suitcase, not Indesign or Illustrator.  It all runs fine on my Macbook Pro too in Demo mode, but its going to expire in 20 days.  That will get me through I suppose till I can arrange to upgrade.  Like most people who legitemately buy their software and count on it every day, I am dissapointed that I am being forced to upgrade for a reason that isn't as clear as processor or OS incompatibility.  Had I known I couldn't install it on this Macbook, I would have held off on its purchase and postponed the project im working on till I get back to the states.  Thank you all for your help.  I know I sound disgruntled and I know you are all just users like me.  I really do appreciate the time you've given to theis matter.

  • How to re-install CS3 on new MacBook Pro? [was: ADOBE REFUSES TO HELP ME]

I've downloaded their software and I received an error stating I must contact Adobe.  So I do, and they REFUSE to assist because my licensed software is not the most current version.  How do I place a call to them?

John, thank you for your response.
It is Adobe CS3 and I was reinstalling it onto a new Macbook Pro.  I had a backup with Time Machine and I restored my files to the new laptop. Of course because of serial number conflict I needed to reinstall my software. The Macbook Pro no longer has a built in Super Drive so I downloaded the software off of the Adobe site. I uninstalled, and tried to reinstall but received a message stating there is a problem and to contact customer support.  I did, via their chat system, and was told that they would not help me because it was CS3.
After uninstalling and restarting several times I finally resolved whatever the error was.  I apologize for the long winded reply, but wanted this to be in a forum in the event someone like myself goes looking for self help answers.  Thank you again!

  • Upgrading from CS3 to CS5.5 on a new Macbook Pro

Does anyone know how simple this is to achieve? I'm upgrading to a new Macbook Pro. I have CS3, but want to upgade to CS5.5. I really don't want to re-install CS3 onto my new mac in order to upgrade to CS5.5, or can I just do it using the serial number(s)?

Yes, the upgrade installer will/ should just ask for the serial. You cannot easily install CS3, anyway, since it requires PPC support and would require installing Rosetta, which even Appel do no longer support...

Sorry that's untrue. I have Photoshop CS3 running on 10.9.
CS9 or 10? Now you are just making stuff up.
Adobe claim CS3 will work, with a minor issue…

I think the 10.9 java updater is installing version 7.
