Activate extended log files

Hi,
Can anyone tell me where you activate extended log files for the webcache. At present we have common log files.
We are using Portal 9.0.2.2.14a
Oracle Appli. Server 9.0.2.0.1
Many Thnaks,
Karl

Hi Karl,
You can do so by selecting the different fields required for the extended log format. Essentially, you'd be customizing the "common" log file.

  • Setting IIS W3C Extended Log File settings via command line, registry or configuration file

    I am currently in need of a way to set IIS W3C Extended Log File settings via command line, registry or configuration file.  More specifically the 'Bytes Sent (sc-bytes)' and 'Bytes Received (cs-bytes)' settings that are not enabled by default.
    If anyone knows where I can locate these setting (outside of the GUI) for all IIS versions that would be greatly appreciated.

    I believe I have found a valid solution. You must have the WebAdministration module loaded.  I hope this helps someone.
    Use the following syntax to view current W3C fields:
    Get-WebConfiguration -filter system.applicationhost/sites/sitedefaults/logfile | select-object -expandProperty logExtFileFlags
    Use the following syntax to set W3C fields:
    Set-WebConfigurationProperty -Filter System.Applicationhost/Sites/SiteDefaults/logfile -Name LogExtFileFlags -Value "Date,Time,ClientIP,UserName,SiteName,ComputerName,ServerIP,Method,UriStem,UriQuery,HttpStatus,Win32Status,BytesSent,BytesRecv,TimeTaken,ServerPort,UserAgent,Cookie,Referer,ProtocolVersion,Host,HttpSubStatus"}

  • How has access.log file configured in WebLogic server 10.0?

    1.) I am using BEA Weblogic 10.0 and my access.log is not getting updated.
    2.) I also need any information as to how this Webblogic server forms chunks (ex....access00011.log,access00012.log) because i have a software called AWStats which merges all these chunks into 1 single access.log file under its subdirectory.
    3.) I also need information as to how and where the user can specify/ form his own fields which gets displayed in the access.log
    FYI i have 2 servers and i checked under Logging->HTTP->advanced, in both the servers options and configurations are same but in 1 it works fine and access.log is updating but not in the other one.
    Kindly let me know i you have any leads into this issue!
    Thanks,
    Varun

    Hi Ravish,
    Firstly thanks for the reply.
    1.) -----
    What you can do is to set the buffer-size-kb parameter value to "0" in config.xml so that it can start logging once the server starts coming up rather then waiting for the default size which is 8kb to pass.
    Something like below:
    <web-server-log>
    <buffer-size-kb>0</buffer-size-kb>
    <web-server-log>
    For more details check the below link:
    Search for: CR302493
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11035_01/wls100/issues/known_resolved.html
    --- for this issue i had browsed throught the forum before posting but in my conf file i have something like this instead of <buffer-size-kb>0</buffer-size-kb>
    <web-server>
    <web-server-log>
    <number-of-files-limited>false</number-of-files-limited>
    <log-file-format>extended</log-file-format>
    </web-server-log>
    </web-server>
    So how do i go about the path of debugging now??
    2.) -------
    If you do not want rotation of access.log then you can just disable it from the below console path just by putting Rotation type as None
    Server -> <YOUR_SERVER_NAME> -> Logging (tab) -> HTTP (sub-tab) -> Rotation type: None
    ---- for this in both my servers i have the settings like this,
    Rotation type--> By Size
    Rotation File size 5000
    Begin rotation time 00:00
    rotation interval 24
    files to retain 7
    and Log file rotation directory is left blank (to get created in same directory)
    and also Rotate log file on startup is unchecked.
    so??? what do you suggest!?
    3.) ------
    I also need information as to how and where the user can specify/ form his own fields which gets displayed in the access.log
    ---- regarding this, in my main server the access.log is getting updated and after 4.8Mb its creating 5Mb chunks. So, for example if the entire log is of 15 Mb then access.log stops updating at 4.98Mb and accesslog.out0001 and accesslog.out0002 is created with 5Mb each but the latest entry will be stored in accesslog.out0002 file. I hope i didn't complicate this :)

  • TMG Logs file Naming Convention

    Hi,
    Can i change the TMG logs file naming convention. I am using Wc3 Extended log file format.
    Default is: ISALOG_yymmdd_FWS_nnn
    Want to change in ISALOGTMG01_yymmdd-FWS_nnn
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I haven't seen a way to change the log name. But you could change the location of the log to ISALOGTMG01 folder you created. Can this help?

  • Extended Logging Format

    Hi, I have been asked to log and report data that is application specific. Rather than maintaining yet another application log I was hoping to make use Extended Log Format and have all the information wriiten to my existing web logs.
    I was wondering if WLS 8.1 supports Extended Log Format and if so how would I go about configuring it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Lisa.

    Hello,
    WebLogic Server does support extended log file format, version 1.0, as defined by the W3C.
    All you have to do is add a few directives to the log file itself. For complete instructions see:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/adminguide/web_server.html#113870

  • Activate Extended Features converting files

    Hi,
    I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to convert to pdf 3D files. We are doing the conversion via Batch Process that executes a sequence and is working fine. The problem is that the generated pdf file has no te extended features activated by default, so the final user cannot for example use the tool for making 3D measurements.
    Is there any way to activate those extended features for all documents generated in the conversion.
    Regards,
    Nacho.

    Correct – no batch process.
    Yes, LiveCycle Reader Extensions Server, is specifically designed for batch enabling.
    Yes, there is also a 3D conversion add-on for LiveCycle PDF Generator, available from a 3rd party, so that you could do the entire thing there.

  • Microsoft sql server extended event log file

    Dears
    Sorry for my below questions if it is very beginner level.
    In my implementation I have cluster SQL 2012 on Windows 2012; I am using MountPoints since I have many Clustered Disks.
    My MountPoint Size is only 3 GB; My Extended event log are growing fast and it is storing in the MountPoint Drive directly (Path: F:\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log).
    What is the best practice to work with it? (is it to keep all Extended events? or recirculate? or to shrink? or to store in DB?)
    Is there any relation between SQL truncate and limiting the size of Extended event logs?
    How can I recirculate this Extended Events?
    How can I change the default path?
    How can I stop it?
    and in case I stop it, does this means to stop storing SQL event in Windows event Viewer?
    Thank you

    After a lot of checking, I have found below:
    My Case:
    I am having SQL Failover Cluster Instances "FCI" and I am using Mount-Points to store my Instances.
    I am having 2 Passive Copies for each FCI.
    In my configuration I choose to store the Root Instance which include the logs on Mount-Point.
    My Mount Point is 2 GB Only, which became full after few days of deployment.
    Light Technical Information:
    The Extended Event Logs files are generated Coz I have FCI, in single SQL Installation you will not find this files.
    The File Maximum size will be 100 MB.
    The Files start circulating after it become 10 Full Files.
    If you have the FCI installed as 1 Active 2 Passive, and you are doing failover between the nodes, then you will expect to see around 14 - 30 copy of this file.
    Based on above information you will need to have around 100 MB * 10 Files Per Instance copy * 3 Since in my case I have 1 Active and 2 passive instances which will = 3000 MB
    So in my case My Mount-Point was 2 GB, which become full coz of this SQLDIAG Logs.
    Solution:
    I extended my mount point by 3 GB coz I am storing this logs on it.
    In case you will need to change SQLDIAG Extended Logs Size to 50 MB for example and place to F:\Logs, then you will need below commands:
    ALTER SERVER CONFIGURATION SET DIAGNOSTICS LOG OFF;
    ALTER SERVER CONFIGURATION
    SET DIAGNOSTICS LOG MAX_SIZE = 50 MB;
    ALTER SERVER CONFIGURATION
    SET DIAGNOSTICS LOG PATH = 'F:\logs';
    ALTER SERVER CONFIGURATION SET DIAGNOSTICS LOG ON;
    After that you will need to restart the FCI from SQL Server Configuration Manager or Failover Cluster Manager.
    I wish you will find this information helpful if it is your case.

  • Extending HTTP access log file

    I am trying to extend the HTTP access log file using the information given at http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/adminguide/web_server.html#113868
    However, I havent been able to succeed in doing that. I have written my own class
    authType.java to display that information in the log file. I compiled the class
    and placed it under the lib directory thereby guaranteeing that it will be loaded.
    However, the log file only seems to place a '-' at the location where it should
    have actually placed the contents of the method getMethod().
    Help will be appreciated.
    [authType.java]

    Not at the moment. We are working on adding a property in an upcoming
    release.
    This is documented at:

  • SQL log file size is extending rapidly

    Hello All,
    We are using ECC 6.0, our database is SQL 2005 & operating system is Windows NT 4x AMD64 L.
    Our database log file size is increasing rapidly, now its size is more than the all 4 data files (near about 300gb).
    Last week I tried to shrink log file but it didn't worked.
    Now less space is remained on disk, please help me.
    Now the system is started giving dump at the time of log in, & the dump is like "START_CALL_SICK ".
    I am attaching dump error text file.
    Please help why is this happening.
    Thanks in advance
    Mahendra

    Hi,
    I have backed up log file & shrink the file but it didn't worked for me
    What is the result? It shrinks the log and release all the space (for all committed transactions).
    How can i add another log file?
    Can i delete old log file after adding new log file.
    You can add another log file by following below steps. but in your case, this is not the right solution because you have good amount of log file configuration for your database (now its size is more than the all 4 data files (near about 300gb)).
    Open SQL server management studio > Expand database > Right click on database > Select Files > Click on Add > Give the input parameters (Logical file name, path, initial size etc.) click on OK
    If system is not allowing you to shrink the log file, it means you have active transactions in system which are continuously using your log file.

  • Total lock-ups with fan running - translate system.log file please!?

    Hi, all. My late 2005 2.3 gig dual G5 has been experiencing random lock ups for as long as I can remember. My system is up to date and I have tested each pair of the 5 gigs of ram that I have and the system freezes with each pair. It can happen at any time, when I am doing absolutely nothing, for example, overnight. I am at my wits end!
    Here's the system log file for the latest freezes. Can anyone tell me what's going on here??? I really need to get to the root of this problem. Thanks so so much in advance.

    Hi-
    The machine seems to be having trouble with loading certain drivers, but, as this isn't a crash log, and doesn't show the "hang-up" or freeze, it's hard to tell.
    Noted possibilities are:
    -Microsoft keyboard (possible USB power problem)
    -firmtek driver (from archive) questionable due to the "archive" annotation
    -Wacom tablet driver, causing system problems
    Running in Safe mode without freezes would help to determine if one of these drivers is the problem.
    Other possibilities are outdated drivers, or simply a need to reinstall the OS.
    If unnecessary, removing the driver(s) would be a good idea.
    External USB and Firewire devices are all suspect, should all be disconnected, revert to Apple keyboard, and test system performance. Adding one device at a time, and testing each will be necessary to clear each device.
    I have experienced system trouble when a Wacom tablet was not connected, but the driver was left installed.
    Disabling the driver from Startup items may be necessary to test without the Wacom tablet connected.

  • Sharepoint log files growing huge

    Once again a SharePoint question :)
    I ran the following script against our SharePoint 2013 farm:
    #Specify the location of the CSV file here.
    $r = Import-Csv C:\folder\users.csv
    foreach($i in $r){
    #The following line displays the current user.
    Write-Host "The URL is:"$i.Url
    #Disables the "Minimal Download Strategy" feature under "Site Features".
    #Disable-SPFeature -Identity "MDSFeature" -Url $i.Url -force -confirm:$false
    #Enables the "SharePoint Server Publishing" feature under "Site Features".
    Enable-SPFeature -Identity "PublishingSite" -Url $i.Url -force -confirm:$false
    #Enables the "SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure" feature under "Site Collection Features".
    Enable-SPFeature -Identity "PublishingWeb" -Url $i.Url -force -confirm:$false
    The csv file that is being imported contains about 2000+ rows with users' MySite links where we want to en-/disable several features.
    The script does what it is supposed to do, but while running the script and reaching user No. ~15 the log files under "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS" starts to grow huuuuuuge (~5GB).
    They are mostly filled with this:

    I tried finding something on the internet on this but either my Google Mojo is gone or there is no one else posting about this.
    Since we do not want to change the logging behavior of SharePoint (unless it is really necessary), I'd like to know if there is something wrong with my code? Is there some parameter I can use to suspend logging for this script? There must be something I'm
    doing horribly wrong :(
    Thanks in advance!
    (If anything I posted is unclear please let me know since English isn't my first language)
    EDIT: There is nothing productive happening on that farm. There is a web application for the MySites and one for a publishing portal (without any significant content).

    It's because MS did a poor job on the SharePoint object model. You shouldn't need to call a 'dispose' method on any object in .Net, the garbage collector should automatically identify a no-longer required object and remove it. Unfortunately, and there might
    be a reason for it, that isn't true for SPWeb or SPSite objects.
    Evidently the Enable-SPFeature comandlet contains a SPSite or SPWeb object and fails to dispose of it.
    You could try using Start-SPAssignment: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607664%28v=office.15%29.aspx which some have found to be useful to deal with this. Another option would be to create a process that generates a new thread for each row in
    the csv which will result in the objects being destroyed as that process ends.

  • How to fetch and display arbitrary log files from a managed host?

    We are creating a small management portal for a custom application and need a way to display, in a browser, the contents of an arbitrary log file located on an EM managed host. The effect we are looking for is similar to what you get when you show the contents of a database alert log using EM.
    I want to extend the EM agent to get the log and display the contents, but see two problems: (1) it seems like we would have to schedule the fetch of the log contents to happen on a regular basis and would not be able to do it on demand and (2) storing the results in the EM repository seems like it could consume a pile of storage, even if it only stores the logs for 24 hours.
    I am pretty sure we can bypass the repository somehow because I think the "show database alert log" EM process does so. Of course, I can't really be sure how this code is getting the alert log, but it seems reasonable to assume it is using the management agent.
    Is there some API for the EM Agent that I am missing?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    From within OEM it doesnt look possible. User defined metrics (UDM) can only return number or a string. The alertlog fetch is done via alertlogViewer.pl while being passed a couple of parameters.
    OEM does have a preliminary/rough api available at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/emx/index.html but I havent seen anyone make use of it yet.
    If you use just a web connection then you will probably run into security issues as a web server can usually only view/access stuff under their htmldoc dir.
    Seems like some non-OEM very custom code is what you seek..

  • Configure log4j to write to different log files conditionally

    Hi folks,
    Is there is way log4j could be configured to write to multiple log files conditionally? Let me try to explain what i am trying to do.
    I have two classes DatabaseChecker and FTPChecker extends Checker class. Within Checker class, there is a method logTestResult(CheckerType c, boolean isFailed, int retry, int isMaxRetryExceeded). Depending on the CheckerType(database or FTP), I need to write log outputs to different files (dbchecker.log or ftpchecker.log). How do i configure log4j to do this?
    I've seen how to configure log4j based on classes from different package, but not sure on this one. Any clue would be much appreciated.

  • Moving the log file of a publisher database SQL Server 2008

    There are many threads on this here. Most of them not at all helpful and some of them wrong. Thus a fresh post.
    This post regards SQL Server 2008 (10.0.5841)
    The PUBLISHER database primary log file which is currently of 3 blocks and not extendable,
    must be moved as the LUN is going away.
    The database has several TB of data and a large number of push transactional replications as well as a couple of bi-directional replications.
    While the primary log file is active, it is almost never (if ever) used due to its small fixed size.
    We are in the 20,000 TPS range at peak (according to perfmon). This is a non-trivial installation.
    This means that
    backup/restore is not even a remotely viable option (it never is in the real world)
    downtime minimization is critical - measured in minutes or less.
    dismantling and recreating the replications is doable, but I have to say, I have zero trust in the script writer to generate accurate scripts. Many of these replications were originally set up in older versions of SQL Server and have come along for the
    ride as upgrades have occurred. I consider scripting everything and dismantling the whole lot pretty high risk. In any case, I do not want to have to reinitialize any replications as this takes, effectively, an eternity.
    Possible solution:
    The only option I can think of is to wind down everything, such that there are zero outstanding uncommitted transactions and detach the database, delete the offending log file and reattach using the CREATE DATABASE xyz ATTACH_REBUILD_LOG option.
    This should, if I have understood things correctly, cause SQL Server to recreate the default log file in the same directory as the .mdf file. I am not sure what will happen to the secondary log file which is not moving anywhere at this point.
    The hard bit is insuring that every transaction in the active log files have been replicated before shutdown. This is probably doable. I do not know how to manually flush any left over transactions to replication. I expect if I shut down all "real"
    activity and wait for a certain amount of time, eventually all the replications will show "No replicated transactions are available" and then I would be good to go.
    Hillary, if you happen to be there, comments appreciated.

    Hi Philip
    you should try this long back suggested way of stopping replication and restore db and rename or detach attach
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/6731803b-3efa-4820-a303-4ffb7edf154a/detaching-a-replicated-database?forum=sqlreplication

    I do not wish to be rude, but which part of the OP didn't you understand?
    Specifically the bit about 20,000 transactions a second and database size of several TB. Do you have any concept whatsoever of what this means? I will answer for you, "no, you are clueless" as your answer clearly shows.
    Stop wasting bandwidth by proposing pointless and wrong solutions which indicate that you did not read the OP, or do you just do this to generate points?
    Also, you clearly failed to notice that I was on the thread to which you referred, and I had some pointed comments to make. This thread was an attempt to garner some input for an alternative proposal.

  • Mac takes 5 mins to wake from sleep and I have bizarre log files

    Can anyone help me figure out what is plaguing my mac. Is it haunted?
    My Macbook Pro (mid 2012 ish) is behaving very strangely. When I wake it up from sleep, it takes five minutes before it is responsive and lets me log in. The progress bar at the bottom rapidly moves to the last bar, then freezes for five minutes.
    When I look at the logs, there is bizarre behavior. I get pages and pages of these kind of events:
    Jan 28 12:13:18 Matts-MacBook-Pro-2 kernel[0]: [0x8076547000, 0x1000]

    Like, 20 or thirty pages.
    My Mac wakes itself up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, performs some operations, and then logs thousands of the kernel events like the one above.
    My Mac also seems to be trying to connect to strange DNS addresses.
    I uploaded a copy of the bizarre log files here.
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59141003/Bizarre%20logs.rtf
    It is malware? Is it a configuration issue? Is there a ghost in the machine?
    Appreciate anyone's help with this.
    Thanks much,
    Matt

    Unfortunately that didn't fix it. I removed the network drive (and everything else) from login items and there are still problems. The Macbook only takes 2-3 minutes to wake, but this is still a long time. (Strangely, immediately after I removed the login item, the Mac woke up in ~30 seconds). There is also some sort of kernel that is occurring thousands of times while the Mac is sleeping. No idea why.
    Any ideas? Log files below:
