Activate master data?

When we right click on a maser info object, we get an option " Activate Master Data". Whats the use of this option?

in your source system, you need to activate the datasource. Replicate it to BW and that's it, normally. Check out table S001 with transaction SE16 to see if there is already data posted to this table. If not, you need to run transaction OMO1 to check if the statistics update for SD is already active and try OLI7 to run a initial setup for infostructure S001.

Difference between a Change-run and Activate master data

Hi experts,
Could you tell me what is the difference between making a change-run on a masterdata (rsa1 --> Tools --> Apply Hierarchy/Attribute Change...), and making a right-click on this masterdata and click on "Activate master data" ?
The result seems to be the same, all rows in version M (Revised) are changed in version A (Active)...

Change run will update the master data changes in Aggregates and update the object master data as well.
Activate master data will only activate the new records and it will not update the aggregates.

Transaction to activate master data

is there any direct transaction code, which can be used to activate master data?
like we can maintain master data using RSDMD, anything to activate the data?
going into RSA1 and finding for the infoobj and activating it is taking a lot of time

hi..
You can activate them using an ABAP program. Create an ABAP program and use the funtion module RSDDS_AGGREGATES_MAINTAIN inside to activate the master data. You can create a job (in sm36) to run the program using the "after job" option. In the "after job" section give the job name existing in the Infopackage groups.

The attribute and hierarchy change run activates you master data and reflects changes to navigational attributes and/or hierarchies in the aggregates of the cubes!

Before transaction data is loaded.
If you have master data table being looked up at in the routine, then inactive master data would not be considered and you may get errors while loading the data.

Cannot activate master data - logs fill

Hi All,
We recently had to do a full load of master data for the 0MAT_PLANT object. The MARC table in our source system contains 31 million records, so that's how many records are now in status M in our master data table.
We are now trying to activate the master data and it keeps terminating because the database logs keep filling. We have tried the activation by Tools -- Apply Hierarchy/Change Run. We have also tried right clicking on 0MAT_PLANT infoobject. Both methods start the activation, and everything looks ok in SM50. It gets through the deletion in XMAT_PLANT, then moves onto PMAT_PLANT. Then it fills the logs, sending messages to SM21.
Then the database rollback (DB2) occurs.
Our basis people have increased the log space for the table space partition from 45 GB to 60 GB. The logs still filled.
Are there any methods we can use to activate the master data for 0MAT_PLANT in smaller subsets? Or to make the activation commit during the process?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Try to activate the Datasource by useing ' RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL'
1. Goto SE38> Select 'RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL'> Click on Execuite.
2. Give the Infosource/ Datasoruce--> Click on Execuite.
3. Replicate the Datasource in BI side.
4 Apply the Attribute change run for that object.
Slect Tool> Select ' Apply Hierarchy/ Attribute change run'> Click on ' Infoobject list'> Select the Infoobjects> Click on Save.

Consider the following example :
key      objvers          Changed          attribute
1000        A                                       ABC
Now suppose the attribute value is changed from ABC to DEF.
Then the entries will be as follows :
key      objvers          Changed          attribute
1000          A                 D                  ABC
1000          M                 I                   DEF
So when you activate the master data then finally it becomes
1000           A                                    DEF.
IF you dont activate it will still show the attribute value as ABC in the reports.

Data not uploading in Time dependent Master data Infoobject

I have a master data infoobject for HR entity and have to load data from PSA to that info object.
The HR entity infoobject already have sone data like below:

Once I loaded this data to the infoobject, i can not see this value which is the latest value of this HR entity.
Can somebody please explain how the data gets loaded in the time dependent master data infoobject and why this entry is not getting loaded in the info object.

Hi,
did you activate master data after your load?
You can check also version 'M' records and see if your record is there.
The load went green?
The problem is, that your entry overlaps all exisitng time intervals, which can't be deleted or merged as there may be dependent transactional data. You have first to delete the transactional data for this entity.
Then you can delete the time-dependent data and reoload it from your PSA.
BW will build then correct time intervals.
The easiest is to change the time interval in PSA, see example below:
At the moment the time interval is not accepted. But you can add time intervalls before 31.12.2011 and after 01.07.2013, Then system will create remaiing time intervals, e.g. your new record is:

Issue with Master data change workflow in GRC PC 10.1

Hi,
I have configured the work flow for master data changes in GRC PC 10.1, however approver is not able to view the request in inbox where are the organization owner is able to see the review for change request in inbox.
Please let me know if there is any config where we need to set the approvers for workflow, so that the system creates a request for approver.

Please, check the following configuration:
1. Activate the workflow (Path: SPRO -> GRC -> Shared Master Data Settings -> Activate Master Data Changes)
2. See whether Checkbox "Approval" is ticked for the selected entity
3. If you activate master data changes, please check whether the correct roles are indicated in the Maintain Custom Agent Determination Rules in the Workflow settings.
Business Event: 0FN_MDCHG_APPR
Role: Select the role you gave to the approver
After performing this configuration, a task must appear in the work inbox.

Master data(0vtype) values are not showing in reports.

I have an info object '0VALTYPE' with 'TEXT'. I already loaded the data in
for this object. but in reporting level i am getting the values # and 20(actual)
even though it has so many vales(ex: 10(plan)etc). but all the values are not populating in the query.how to get all the values in reporting level.

Hi Raju,
You have already confirmed, but still please go to infoobject 0VTYPE again and check the master data to see all values exits there.
If yes and still in reporting you can not see those, try doing the following:
1) Right click on 0VTYPE and click on "Activate Master Data", and/or
2) Go to Menu --> select Attribute change run --> select 0VTYE and execute the changes.

Master data updation not reflected in Bex report

Hi,
There is a field "Approver" in a report. It will only show the name of the Approver. And recently the same approver name has been changed in MDM system and now the problem is newly changed name is not reflecting the reporting. It shows the only old name in reporting.
My doubt is, what about already loaded record in BW system. Whether changes will be made for the older data. I mean it is possible to overwrite the approver name stored earlier in BW.

Yes, master is always overwritten.
load the new value to the approver Info object.
in RSA1 -> right click --> activate master data.
Initially when data loaded, records will be Modified version. when you perform activate master data then M versions records will turn to A version.
records with A version are only visible in Report.
If your report is on Aggregates, then you have to perform ACR (attribute change run) to update the same new value in aggregate.
you can use the program RSDDS_AGGREGATES_MAINTAIN.

Hi,
Though you Material grade is time dependent and sequentially changing.
You can create 4 different DTP with Grade selection (only 1 Transformation).
For example, 1 DTP with filter Grade A, another DTP with grade B, so on.
and executive all 4 dtp sequentially and activate master data after every DTP run.

After attribute load, did you activate your master data? Everytime you load master data, you have to activate it to see the new data.
Ok - Do the following:
RSA1-> Find you InfoObject-> right click and click on 'Activate Master Data'.
OR
If you want to activate all master data in one shot, goto RSA1->tools->Apply Hierarchy/Attribute change->Execute
Now check the data, you will be able to see all the loaded master data.
