Activate OCR and Enable Comment in PDF document On an Unix platform

Hi every Body,
I have an amount of PDF document stored on an unix server, and i want to anable "Add comment" feature for all of those documents, so that i can
open every document by Adobe Reader and add comments; sticky, underline....etc. This feature is Avalabe in Acrobat Reader Pro 9 i test it
it work fine, but i need to do same thing in commande line, i mean install a library or something else and i can do this operation by taping a command on shell terminal.
The same problème with te OCR feature.
Thanks for you help

Hi,
Unless you use Acrobat 8 Pro's Formatted Text & Graphics" or Acrobat 9 Pro's ClearScan you will find that there is no
practicable means of editing the OCR "hidden text" in a PDF.
The TouchUp text tool (Advanced Editing toolbar) is reliant upon the selected text having an available system font to use during touchup. However, both Searchable Image and Searchable Image (Exact)  OCR output is of text rendering mode 3 (invisible text) that is provided from within Acrobat and not any installed system or other application installed font.
With Searchable Image (Exact) you have the untouched image augmented by the invisible text which is provided as a user aid for search or find with Adobe Reader or Acrobat. The invisible text is not intended to support word processor like editing.
To your questions:
#1. There is no practicable way to edit invisible text (text rendering mode 3) with Acrobat (any past or current release).
#2. None.
#3. A good question. Perhaps a specialty program. Keep in mind, many products provide a promise but those those that actually deliver tend to be expensive.
Something to play with. Using Acrobat 9 Pro or Pro Extended, try the Preflight Fixup to embed hidden text.
Then try using the TouchUp Text tool. You may also want to see if you can change the font type of this newly embedded font.
(use copies of the "real" files - just in case <g>).

  • How to enable commenting into pdf files using java?

    Hi All,
Is there any way available to enable comments into pdf files through java. I have a Adobe Reader 9 and also I want put some comments into pdf file, but the reader is not allowed to place a comment into pdf file before enabling the Comments into pdf. After enabling the comments in pdf file then only we can place the comments and we can the pdf file with comments.
Is there any way available to enable comments into pdf file to view acrobat reader.
    Thanks in advance.

The end user who uses the web application has Acrobat installed in their mahcine needs it only for the purpose of enabling comments in pdf. If this task of enabling comments in pdf is done through my application there is no need for acrobat in such user's machine which was requested as a cost cuttnig measure.
For this purpose, i need to know about how to enable comments in pdf through java api.
I have used itext java api for other pdf related manipulation in java. But it does not have feature as per the requirement posted above. Can any body suggest relevant java api to achieve the task requested?
    Tahnks in Advance.

  • Does anyone know how to copy and paste from a pdf document?

I am trying to copy and paste from a pdf document to put on facebook, but I cannot highlight the text I want to copy.
    Any suggestions???

It is a generated pdf doc. I can highlight the text, but as soon as I let go of the mouse button, the highlighting disappears. If I right-click the mouse, there is no copy/past option. Only a select, zoom and marque tool option.

  • How do I activate the "Signature" options of a PDF document created 11/8/13

How do I activate the "Signature" options on a PDF document?

    Hi Spud640,
Click the Sign button on the toolbar to open the Sign panel
The panel is divided into three sections, expand the I Need to Sign section
Click the Place Signature button under Fill & Sign
Select the Draw my signature radio button
Use your mouse to create a signature in the large edit field
    Click the Accept button
At this point the cursor is the signature, where ever you click in the file will place this image,
Unless you clear the signature, the next time you select the Place Signature button you won't see the dialog above, it will just go right to turning the cursor into your signature.

  • How can I open and listen to the PDF documents with audio in my iPad?

How can I open and listen to the PDF documents with audio in my iPad?

You need to use a PDF reader that supports multimedia. Adobe Reader 10.3 does not. Adobe has not stated whether it will support multimedia in the future.
In the meantime, you could buy an application that does like PDF Expert. Read about it here:

  • OCR and hidden text in PDF scans of historic documents

I need to edit the hidden text behind a scanned PDF image of a document.  The image must remain as an “exact” copy of the original scanned document.
I used Acrobat Pro (versions 7 and 9) to make PDF images of old typed documents from the 1940’s.  When I open those images and run OCR in version 9, then examine the hidden (invisible) text layer behind the image, there are errors.  For example, the word “book” has been picked-up by the OCR as the word “look.”  I need to change the “l” to a “b” in order to make the PDF accurate when it is searched at a later date.
I have checked many user forums.  Most people imply that hidden text can be viewed, but NOT edited in Acrobat Pro 7 and 9.  (Hidden text can be viewed in Version 9 by selecting “Document” “Examine Document” and then clicking on the “+” symbol next to “Hidden Text,” then clicking “Show preview.”)  Some say to use Adobe Capture 3.0 to edit hidden text.  Others say to use Photoshop or Illustrator to edit hidden text (I think these folks may have been confused, because Photoshop and Illustrator would be used, logically, to edit the image ON TOP OF the hidden text).  Yet another person seemed to say that a hidden text editor was added to Acrobat 8, but was taken away in Acrobat 9.  (I can’t verify that because I don’t have version 8.)
The closest answer I was able to find involved using the Text Touch Up Tool on top of the image to edit hidden text behind it, but when you do that you are typing “blind.”  In other words, you highlight a spot on the image (top layer) where you THINK the error MIGHT be, and you type the correction without being able to see what you are typing over.  Then, you go back to the “Examine Document” procedure (described above) to see if you “hit” your mark, and if not, you redo it until you do “hit” your mark.  With the number of documents and corrections that we have, that procedure would be too labor intensive and thus a budget breaker.
If we have to buy more software, my preference would be to buy a genuine Adobe product because I have experienced problems in the past switching back and forth between Adobe products and other PDF manipulation software.
Can anyone answer any of these questions:
    (1) Is there a way in Acrobat versions 7, 8 or 9 to edit hidden text, and if so, how?
    (2) What Adobe software (other than Acrobat) will edit hidden text behind a PDF image?
    (3) Assuming no Adobe product will edit hidden text behind a PDF image, is there any non-Adobe products that will do that?
    Thank you!

  • How to enable commenting in PDF?

Using RH9. Generating a PDF for review from WebHelp. RH shows me the Create PDF for review dialog box but the Enable commenting in Adobe Reader option is dimmed. How can I activate this feature?

    Hi there
Just a comment and observation here on a couple of things.
Sure, it's Adobe's sandbox and they are free to do what they like with their products. However, they do tend to listen to customers in order to decide which features to add, remove or enhance. And if they hear from several different customers, they pay more attention. You get their ear by completing a Wish Form/Bug Report. These are always read by the product teams.
Soooo, you (and any others reading this that feel this way) should please submit a Wish Form to advise Adobe that you want to see these "suite only" features work with the stand alone versions of the product. But here's the kicker. The features should only work if you have the other required Adobe software. What I mean by this is that many folks purchase Acrobat separately and RoboHelp separately as individual items. It seems ridiculous to me (as I'm sure it does to you) that if you have both pieces of the required software, that a feature requiring both would also require a "special version" of both so they are now integrated. It forces the customers into making an additional purchase and duplicating software just to get a feature working.
And your comment about Ankur? Well, completing that Wish Form (link is in my sig) will put your comment in front of his eyes. Really it will! Posting here probably won't do it. It's like shouting at the wind and hoping the president hears it. Completing the Wish Form is like making a direct telephone call to the president's answering machine.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Enable 'comments' on pdfs printed from within osx

    Hello there...
We have osx 10.4 on our network at school (soon all machines will be running 10.4.10).
I want to get the kids into printing their work to pdf rather than paper and saving these in their folders.
What I want to do is enable the 'comments' secion of the pdf so the teacher can comment on/grade the work and this can be saved with the pdf.
Is there a way of enabling this? It would be very useful!
Faliling this, is there any other way of attaching comments to a document such as a pdf or jpg?
    cheers
    Steve

I am not certain exactly what you want, but if you open a pdf file in Preview, and click on the pencil tool, you can attach a comment and save the file with that. Just use the tool to make a box wherever you want it on the document.
Other tools are available in complete versions of Acrobat.

  • How can I see the comments in PDF document on Chrome OS?

Hi, I am trying to view the comments in a PDF document on my Chromebook (Chrome OS). The PDF viewer in Chrome cannot show them (I see only the graphical hints, like yellow background and such). I tried several apps in the Chrome store, but none of them could show the comments in the PDF document. There is an app to comment a PDF file, but it uses a proprietary format, and is incompatible with the comments created by Adobe Acrobat. I also tried to upload the PDF to the Acrobat.com webspace. While it provides an online viewer, even the Acrobat.com webspace viewer does not show the comments . So I am running out of ideas, and still cannot see the comments of the PDF on my Chromebook...
Is there something obvious I am missing? Is there an app that can show comments on Chromebooks?
    Thank you!

  • Enable commenting on PDF produced from RSTXPDFT4

    Hi experts,
In our business , we are using program RSTXPDFT4 to convert an ABAP spool list into PDF.  Now, there is a request for the ability to put comments onto the PDF file (see attached "Insert comments.jpg"). We found that we are unable to do so with our current version of  Adobe Reader 9.
However, a user with Adobe Acrobat Pro will be able to save the PDF with "Reader Extended PDF -> Enable Commenting and Measuring" (see attached "Adobe Acrobat Pro.jpg").  When this is done, we can then open the PDF file using Acrobat Reader 9 and add in comments.
Here is the question - is there a way to convert a spool into PDF with the "Reader Extended PDF" properties from SAP, so that it is immediately ready for commenting?
    Regards,
    Sui

    I don't think so.
Adobe Acrobat may have to save the pdf in higher version whose specification has the said feature.
Most pdf writers create pdf with version 1.4, which is lower than latest format, but good enough.

  • Printing current time and date on a pdf document

I wish for a pdf document to print the current time and date in the same place at the foot of each page, to the following format:
    Aug 04 2009, 5:11 pm.
How do I do this please? Annoyingly I have managed it in the past, but when I open up my old documents and paste the relevant field into my new document, it either prints the old date/time or else prints the present date/time, but then doesn't refresh the next time I try to print - ie it stays at one date/time.
I'd like to start again from scratch so that I have a better idea of how it works!!
    Regards
    Tony

    Eureka!
I now have the answer, and hopefully this will help anybody else with a similar problem.
    In Acrobat:
Create a text field and place it in the chosen place on the pdf form. Label it "datebox" in the General tab of Text Field Properties, and apply your character styles in the Appearance tab.
Under the "Advanced" menu, go to "Document Processing" and then "Set Document Actions"
Click on "Document Will Print" and then hit the "Edit" button. In the "JavaScript Editor" paste the following:
    var myfield=getField("datebox");
    var date=new Date();
    date=util.printd("mmm dd yyyy, h:MM tt", date);
    myfield.value=date;
    Hit OK.
You have now given the instruction that whenever you print, the field named "datebox" will print the current time and date in the following format:
    Aug 05 2009, 9.37 am

  • Edit pictures and graphics in a pdf document

I have many pdf documents that need new and updated logos (jpg images).  How do I delete the old logos and replace them with the new one?  I have Office 2010 and Acrob V10.1.4 but cannot find how to edit pictures.

If you only have a few to change, use the information on Deepak's link. It tells you how to use the Edit Object tool.
If you need to change a lot of them, you should really work on the original files - PDFs are not designed to be edited very easily. It's a simpler process in Acrobat XI but you still need to change each image by hand, one at a time.
Bill suggests exporting to Word (File > Save As > Microsoft Word) - that will give you editable content but will remove anything interactive about the PDF file and tends to mess about with formatting. It's very much a last resort option.

  • What can I do to edit and add or delete PDF document

I do not use many functions of acrobat PDF except converting word document into PDF or vice versa. Recently, I have a document in PDF format with pages of writing. What do I if I want to edit the document in PDF format, and to add or to delete certain pages to the PDF document? Currently, I do not have additional acrobat PDF software but the free downloaded Acrobat 8.0. I also have Mac OS 10.5.6. Can the new Mac OS do more without additional acrobat software?
Thank you very much for your advice.

  • How to erase lines and columns from a pdf document

hi, i have a pdf document with rows and columns and some text writen in them. I want to be able to delete the rows and columns but i haven't found a way to do that yet.Can anyone help me please??? i can delete the content in the cells but not the row/column itself. Also i want to do the opposite thing in another pdf (add rows and columns), i also haven't found the way yet
    Thank you!!

This is a very long way from what is possible. Acrobat is not a design tool or word processor. You can delete what is at a location on the page, but it sounds as if you expect the text to reflow and close up the gaps - this will not happen.

  • Finder crashes and restarts when Adobe PDF documents are accessed.

Recently I've been having problems with my Finder crashing (window closes and the dot under the Finder icon in the Dock goes out) and restarting (dot under the icon in the Dock comes back on). The problem occurs when I select an Adobe PDF document in the Finder. I use column view. If I click once on a document to see the Preview information in the next column, or if I double click to open the document, the crash and restart occurs. However, it doesn't happen for all Adobe PDF documents. If the icon next to the document name in the Finder shows the first page of the document, the problem does no occur. But if the document icon remains the Adobe logo, the problem occurs.
I'm running Os X 10.5.5 on one of the early iMacs. Other than regular Apple updates, the only software change I've made recently is to install Adobe Flash Player.

    Here's an update.
The problem seems to be confined to the Finder when Column view is selected. When List or Icon view is selected there is no crash and restart. When Cover Flow is selected the Finder crashes and restarts, but the pattern seems a bit odd. It crashes when some folders or subfolders are selected, but not others.
In Column view the problem occurs for some Adobe PDF documents where the document icon is the first page. It occurs for all PDF documents where the icon is the Adobe logo.
