Activate the new iPhone 4S

I've purchased the new iPhone 4s in UK Apple Store. I can't activate it during two days. I get the following message: "we're sorry we are unable to continue with your activation at this time".

That error message is often an indication that your cell phone carrier's servers are overloaded with customers trying to activate iPhones.   You might try calling your carrier to see if they're experiencing this problem.

    Same thing here. I love how they include this nice and easy to follow guide in the box and the KEY step for activation (the phone call) is a total fail. To verizon: the automated just says Terms and Conditions have been accepted for this number. Press 1 to enter another phone number in the order. Well, I HAD NO other phone number in my order. The message gives no other options. She repeats the same line 3 more times and after the 3rd time, it says please hold while we transfer you, call may be monitored etc. Guess what, its 2 am ET and customer service is closed?
    Do you guys expect thousands of iphone customers to speak to a CSR just to activate? Why not just let us do it online? I have activated plenty of phones even LTE phones, online. Now I'm going to have to compete with the other 30,000 people who ran into this same problem overnight tomorrow on the phone....

    The phone needs to be activated first with a sim in it.  It doesn't need to be an active sim.  Read this
    USING AN IPHONE AS AN IPOD
    Restore your phone as new.  Place a SIM card into the phone and connect it your computer with iTunes open and follow the activation assistant to activate the iphone.  Once the iphone have been activated remove the SIM card and turn on imessage in settings/messages.  Only your Apple ID should appear in the “You can be reached by imessage at” and “Start new conversation from” fields.  Read the following article for help http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406

    If you are activating it with your computer either your firewall/antivirus is blocking the connection to apple's activation server gs.apple.com or your computer was used at some time in the past to hack or jailbreak some other iDevice.

    Well I guess we are casualties of several million people trying to do the same thing at the same time. I bet if we wait a while (like a day or so) things should get more normal. After all this roll out is projecting to be the biggest one of all. We can be lucky that we even got our phones. My buddy order an hour after me and he is not even for a email saying it shipped. He's bummed big time. I am going to bed and I'll try in the morning.

    It seems that once I backed up my iPhone and iPad to the cloud, whenever I did subsequent back-ups or syncs, it transferred all the photos to my iPhone.     It will remove all. If you don't want to remove all then leave the box checked, but then uncheck the photos you want removed. It will remove the ones that are UNCHECKED.
    It might be easier to remove all, then sync the ones you want the same way to the new phone.

    I just activated a new iphone 4s and restored from a backup of my former iphone 3gs - had the same problem - Waiting for Activation on both facetime and imessage. I tried all the usual fixes, reset all, hard reset, turn facetime/imessage on and off, and on and on. 2 hours on phone with tech support to no avail.
    I just found the fix on my own - no clue if it will work for everyone. But it's ridiculously easy and worth a shot so you don't waste hours and hours resetting/synching as I did.
    All I did was go into settings>phone>my number - erase it by touching the ">". Then re-enter it making sure to input with the "+" and country code. For example in the US: +1(508) 569-9901
    No hard reset necessary. I went into settings>facetime and imessage, immediately after inputting my phone number again and the dreaded "waiting for activation" message was gone. I tested sending a message - came thru to the other party fine and facetiming another device (my mom's ipad some distance away) and it rang thru with everything working properly i.e., video/audio.

    OK, call AppleCare in the UK...no one else can help you...be prepared to give them the phone's IMEI number & SN. They can verify whether your phone is carrier locked or not. Tell them you asked for an unlocked iPhone, that there was no sim in the phone or carrier name on the box or receipt. They can fix this remotely, by unlocking your phone, if it is in fact carrier locked & you were given this phone by mistake.

    Are you sure you paid for it? I got that exact same message when I chose the reserve for "pick up at the store" option. I thought I was ordering it and pre-paying to pick it up in the store. However, it never asked for my payment information. It also stated there was no guarantee I would receive one when I showed up at the store - so not sure what the point was!
    I restarted my order with the "ship it to me" option. That method did take my payment information and I got an email confirming it will be shipped to me for delivery on 6/19.

    The iPhone 5 will come with a new SIM Card in the iPhone ready for you to activate. If you want to make things a bit more difficult, you can cut a Micro SIM to the Nano Sim size with scissors. Of if you have any problems with your iPhone 5 and its SIM Card you can get a new one from your Carrier. But, again the new iPhone 5 will come with a new one for you.
